NordicFuzzCon (NFC) is an annual Swedish furry convention.[1]
Contents
Overview[edit]
Its first iteration was in 2013. It is a multi-venue convention and one of the largest furry conventions in Europe by attendance, with more than 6000 tickets sold and 5962 registered attendees in 2026.[2]
Organization[edit]
NordicFuzzCon (802467-4924) is a Swedish non-profit organization (ideell förening), registered 30 August 2012.[3] Its subsidiary interest organization, NordicFuzzCon AB (559041-6425), a private company limited by shares, was registered 15 December 2015[4] and is led (as of 2018) by CEO Trax and vice-CEO Miles T.F. Baxxter.[4] The organization's fiscal year ends June 30 - its 2015-16 report was signed by directors Trax, NewEinstein, Miles and Pinky Fennec; former head of security Clover succeeded NewEinstein for 2016-17 and '17-18.[4][5][6].
Mascots[edit]
NordicFuzzCon's mascot is a lovable "raus" (combination of mouse and rat) known as Mausie.[7] Mausie has grayish fur, brown eyes, and has a blue bow tied to his tail. Mausie premiered as a fursuit during the opening ceremony of NordicFuzzCon 2015.[8]
At the NordicFuzzCon 2019 opening ceremony, Iris was introduced to share mascot duties with her cousin, Mausie.[9] Like her cousin, she is also a raus. Iris has brown and beige fur, blue eyes, and has a baby blue bow tied to her tail.
Pictures, reference sheets, and more information about the convention's mascots can be found on the NordicFuzzCon website.
History[edit]
With special exception during the COVID-19 pandemic,[10] NordicFuzzCon has taken place annually since 2013 with no indication of being discontinued.
Guests[edit]
Between 2013 and 2023, NordicFuzzCon had a traditional Guest of Honour (GoH). Starting from the 2017 convention, the "Northern Light" (NL) concept was added.[11] This was an additional guest invited alongside the Guest of Honour, where one of the important criteria was that they should be an "underappreciated talent from the Nordic countries".[12] The Northern Light concept was discontinued after the 2023 convention alongside the Guest of Honour.
Starting with the 2024 convention, NordicFuzzCon has instead invited various external guests to visit and perform at the convention in various capacities, typically performing at specific events or otherwise providing entertainment for attendees:
- The 2024 convention featured the Swedish folk metal band Grimner to tie in with the Nordic Mythology theme.[13] FurScience were also invited this year.[14]
- The 2025 convention featured Taiwanese dance group WannaBeast[15] as well as the Taiko group TAIKO BASTARDS,[16] tying in with the Asia-inspired theme.
- The 2026 convention featured a live performance by Circus Florida[17] as well as the Batería Malmö marching band[18] to tie in with the circus theme. FurScience and Grimner were additionally invited back.[19][20]

* NFC@Home was the first online convention, it replaced the 2021 convention due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[56][57]
† NFC@Home ran for four consecutive weekends throughout March, each with its own theme.
†† Several previous guests of honour, including EoSFoxx, JD, Kéké Flipnote, and Pointedfox, were invited to host and participate in certain events as “special guests”.
‡ Attendance is based on the number of members in the Discord server by the end of the convention.
Venues[edit]
NordicFuzzCon originally took place around the Greater Stockholm region in Sweden, utilizing various venues across multiple municipal areas before moving down south into central Malmö, Sweden's third largest city and a significant travel hub with strong international connections.
It hosted its first two conventions in the Quality Hotel Winn venue in Haninge.[58][59] It then moved to Nynäshamn, into the now-defunct Utsikten Meetings venue.[60][61][62] The convention outgrew this venue already by their second year, requiring registration to be closed once approximately 500 attendees had signed up in order to not exceed the maximum capacity set by the venue fire regulations.[63]
For the 2017 convention, NordicFuzzCon moved to Upplands Väsby into the Scandic Infra City venue.[64][65][66] This venue was highly regarded for its expansive lobby area, featuring Scandinavia's largest indoor tropical garden, including a large live Koi pond running throughout the entire center of the lobby.[67] The venue also featured the popular "Party Wing", a special section of hotel rooms where higher noise levels were permitted, meant to accommodate attendees wishing to host room parties that may get a little louder.[68]
By 2019, the convention once against was stretching limits of what the venue could handle and it took the decision to relocate to Malmö for its 2020 convention onward, choosing the Clarion Hotel & Kongress Malmö Live venue as the new home of NordicFuzzCon.[69] To mitigate the lack of a dedicated party wing, the "Party boat" was introduced.[70][71] This was a rented boat stationed in the river, close to the venue, which provided space for attendees to host various party-type events and activities. A second boat was added for the 2024 convention.[72] To mitigate concerns about outgrowing yet another venue, NordicFuzzCon also decided to add an additional venue instead of moving venues yet again. This additional venue was announced as the "Valhalla" venue.[73][74]
NordicFuzzCon has continued using its Clarion and Valhalla venues together, positioning itself as a multi-venue convention. Both venues offer bars, restaurants, and social spaces, as well as multiple panel rooms and stages. Several convention facilities have also moved from the Clarion venue into the Valhalla venue, such as the Arcade, Dealers' Den, and Haunted House.[75] During the 2026 convention, there were parallel dances taking place in both venues.[76] Additionally, some of the spaces and conference rooms in the Comfort Hotel, neighboring the Valhalla venue, were used to host certain events and activities.[77]

Blipping and achievements[edit]
Since NFC 2016, the convention badges feature built-in NFC tags. These can be used with special cheese-shaped tag reader boxes to participate in an activity known as "Blipping". By placing your badge against the so-called "blip boxes", the boxes will register the badge and keep track of when and how often each badge has been registered. There are several achievements and convention mini-games that rely on the blipping mechanic. For example, there are achievements for blipping at certain times of the day, during certain panels, directly after a staff member, or after attendees from a certain country or whose fursona is a certain species.[78]
Achievements are tracked in the official convention app, allowing attendees to compete with one another to unlock as many as they can throughout the convention, and shoutouts are sometimes given to those attendees who blip the highest number of times and unlock the most achievements.[79]
Fursuits – Gotta Catch 'Em All[edit]
In 2018 introduced an at-convention game called Fursuits – Gotta Catch 'Em All.[80][81] The way the game works is that each participating fursuiter gets a code written on their fursuit badge, and attendees can enter that code into the NordicFuzzCon phone app or website to "capture" the fursuiter. The app features lists of who has caught the most fursuiters and which fursuiters have been captured the highest number of times.
Originally, attendees could chose between one of three teams to join when registering to participate in the game. This mechanic allowed attendees to compete in factions by trying to earn the most points for their team. This mechanic has however since been discontinued.
