Question about vanity pages vs user pages[edit]

Hello - new to Wikifur, not so new to furdom. I've been reading through the policies and guidelines and so forth, and while I see that 'vanity' pages are permitted, I guess what I'd like a sense of is what are the unspoken rules regarding them? Is it considered gauche to make one oneself? I'm also kind of wondering what distinction there might be between the User:name page and a character or people page of the same name? Thank you, and I look forward to participating here! --GingerM (Leave me a message) 02:40, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

Starting an article about yourself is fine. Glad you've read the policies and guidelines.
I think if it is unspoken/not-in-help-articles I'm not sure it can be considered a rule. One WikiFur standard (if standard if correct word) that doesn't seem to be in the help articles is Contributor tag: since your WikiFur username is "Ginger", you'd add {{Contributor|Ginger}} near bottom of the article about you (usually right below the "External links" header).
If your preferred name is "Ginger", then article would be named "Ginger (person)" or something similar. (Ginger page is currently a disambiguation page.) --EarthFurst 04:48, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
Thank you very much! I'll give it some thought. --GingerM (Leave me a message) 21:58, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
Having thought about it, may I ask if it's possible to alter my username, so as to avoid the conflict with the disambiguation page? I'd like to change it from Ginger to GingerM, if possible - and yes, if I'd been thinking when I registered, I'd have done it right the first time. If it's not possible, I'll at least create the person page as GingerM. Thank you, and my apologies for being a pest. --GingerM (Leave me a message) 20:26, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
It is possible to rename your username. You don't have to change it, as it is very simple to get User:Ginger page and GingerM article to link to each other. Shall I go ahead and change your username to GingerM anyway? --EarthFurst 20:38, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
If you could, please? I'm trying to maintain some consistency in my online life :-D --GingerM (Leave me a message) 21:20, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
Follow-up - not to worry; GreenReaper took care of it. I had to ask for some help with an article I sort of borked. --GingerM (Leave me a message) 22:17, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

Great Minds[edit]

I see you and I both had the same idea of trying to de-tilt Rat's picture of Sairys :-D --GingerM (Leave me a message) 04:53, 4 February 2011 (UTC)

I nearly fell out of my chair laughing. Great timing.  :-) --CodyDenton 05:03, 4 February 2011 (UTC)

Furry Fashion[edit]

Hi ginger just read your comments about furry fashion. As to your questions I don't have any proof that ff is the largest store of furry clothing and accessories within sl, but I have been in second life since 2006 and been making items since then. Myself and my creators have done extensive research and no one comes close to the amount of furry items for sale like we do. that's why i put probably. As for the staff members, it changes a LOT due to taking on new models, dancers, greeters, avatar creators and so forth hence the around part. We've never been officially reviewed as we don't make actual avatars just clothing and accessories and no one really reviews these. Digital distractions is run by a furry named Digitalmouse where he allows furry artists to display their art and sell it for free. It's a way of getting people more aware of good artists, and they come from everywhere including Fa and DA. I will revise and add links/Slurls for the sims and areas when i can (just came out of surgery so getting back into my routine is tiring and slow) Amethysia (amethyst crystal)

Image cleanup[edit]

Thanks for the quick response, Higgs! As you can see, I decided to go on a bit of tidy-up tear :-) --GingerM (Leave me a message) 04:27, 20 March 2011 (UTC)

No problem. Thanks for having devoted some of your time to identifying those images which were orphaned.--Higgs Raccoon 09:59, 20 March 2011 (UTC)

Maho[edit]

hi ^.^ i don't know how to use this very well, i hope yes. you send me a PM before, right? i add myself into people category, and now i'm in the fur list (i'm happy), but i want to do it in spanish version os wikifur, but i don't know how y have to do it, could you help me? thanks.

Hello, Maho! For the Spanish version of Wikifur, you should PM Argox, Fibonacci, or Richard Wolf VI. Also, this should have gone on my User_talk:GingerM page, not the article, but that's okay. I'll move it over there; I'll also post my reply on your talk page. --GingerM (Leave me a message) 04:30, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

People who don't get it[edit]

Just had a look at recent edits and wow... Meepsheep appears to be racking up an impressive number of block evasions (assuming Meepsheep is the original account). Talk about failing to get the message. Would it be effective to block all logins from that IP? Or would that be against Wikifur's policies/ethos? Just wondering, because one could spend a lot of time just keeping track of this one clown. --GingerM (Leave me a message) 23:52, 26 March 2011 (UTC)

I did, however many proxy addresses were used in an attempt to circumvent it. I have filed an abuse report with Comcast. --GreenReaper(talk) 23:53, 26 March 2011 (UTC)

Accidental featured article reversion?[edit]

Hey GingerM, it looks like you accidentally(?) reverted the Featured Article from Oklacon to the prior article from 2010. I reverted this change, but wanted to let you know I did so, and wanted to inquire why you changed it to a previous FA? I looked on the discussion page, but didn't see anything noted. Cheers, BlueOtter 02:43, 5 April 2011 (CEST)

Oh, garbage... sorry, that's entirely my fault. When I logged in that day, I saw the week's features hadn't been set so I went to redirect to the previous ones and I'd forgotten Oklacon was now the current featured article. That's what I get for trying to be helpful after about 36 hours without sleep. --GingerM (Leave me a message) 02:46, 5 April 2011 (CEST)

I would welcome your opinion[edit]

If you have a moment to spare, could you look at Zidonuke, the article - specifically the edit history, please? There was a couple of references to bannings which he had reverted. I looked at them and they were referenced, but the wording was somewhat non-NPOV in my view. So I added a simple statement of fact about the bans with the references cited, and that's been reverted as well. At the risk of sounding clueless, is this an instance where the subject of the article should override other editors? Myself, I think that being banned from SL and from F-List, the latter with some amount of comment and so forth, would be justifiably included in the article, but I am not an experienced editor by any means; if this is an example of where I should just leave well enough alone, please let me know for my future guidance? Thank you. --GingerM (Leave me a message) 06:58, 4 April 2011 (CEST)

Dur - I meant to also say, I did ask User:Zidonuke on his talk page why he reverted it, so perhaps I'll gain some understanding from him as well. Thanks again. --GingerM (Leave me a message) 07:00, 4 April 2011 (CEST)
Hmmm. You could perhaps start a discussion about this on the article's talk page, where others editors and admins will see it. We don't like to create conflict, but at the same time shouldn't be censoring and sugar-coating articles. I guess you could debate whether or not Zidonuke's bans are noteworthy. My gut feeling is that they're a borderline case but probably worth including if there are references (as your edit had) and (if possible) a word of explanation about why he was banned.--Higgs Raccoon 13:23, 6 April 2011 (CEST)

Hi Ginger[edit]

okayy. well I know it's probly major late, but thanks for welcoming me to WikiFur :3 —The preceding unsigned comment was added by KodaSquirrel (talkcontribs) .

No problem, Koda. A suggestion: you can 'sign' your comments on talk pages and forum pages by putting ~~~~ (that's four tildes) at the end of your comment. That will put your name, the date and time. Also you can format your name if you like by setting a format in your preferences. --GingerM (Leave me a message) 00:41, 9 April 2011 (CEST)

thanks again for the help![edit]

just saying, thanks again for the help, Ginger M :) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by KodaSquirrel (talkcontribs) .

Thanks for help and stuff[edit]

hehe thanks for the help you have done so far and well also been using some of your pages for code refs. Thanks for helping me out :) KaciFox 14:57, 17 April 2011 (EDT)

About my edit on my page. (https://en.wikifur.com/wiki/Charem)[edit]

Hey, I got your message about my going through due process for blanking my page with Creators.

I contacted them as you requested, but you revering the page is actually doing me harm.

I'm actually being attacked online and my outdated wikifur page - which is honestly written pretty crassly (seriously, read it. it also has some really smutty links. stuff that shouldn't even be there.) - is being used as ammo against me. It's a PR mess and that is why I blanked the page with the message that you read.

By reverting the page, you've opened me up to more attacks, essentially.

Is there any possibility you can leave the page in a simpler state until a Creator can get to blanking the page? Please.
