Question about my wikifur page[edit]

Hello, I was told by spirou to talk to you about my wikifur page. I sent a note about it to your FA. It will be from the user "Fuzzlemuzzle".

Please read when you get the chance, thank you!

Bots[edit]

Is there anyway to have a bot put ContributorU on user pages, at least the ones with a matching article name? Or, perhaps, one that puts welcome templates on the talk pages of new users? Equivamp 19:53, 22 June 2011 (EDT)

Both of those are technically feasible, but the first would require writing a bot script and assumes they are the same person, while I'm not sure the second is a good idea in general. Welcomes are at best rather impersonal if you have a bot do them, and at worst end up looking stupid when you start welcoming vandals (faking the last admin to edit signing it only makes it worse, as seen at Wikia). --GreenReaper(talk) 20:01, 22 June 2011 (EDT)
All right. Just a thought I had and thought I'd ask about. Equivamp 20:13, 22 June 2011 (EDT)

Questions[edit]

What do you define the difference between a fursuit and an animal costume? The subject has come up at Wikiepdia's fursuit article, but I'm a rather poor debater, and feel my opinion is pretty closed-minded. My opinion is that a fursuit is only a fursuit if associated with furry, otherwise, it's an animal or mascot costume. However, I know that some feel an animal costume is a fursuit, and the two are synonymous. I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on this. Equivamp 12:43, 28 June 2011 (EDT)

I'm looking for a comic - a single, not a series - that l originally found on readcomicsonline.li, about a dog who goes after his kidnapped mistress even though a wizard has partially turned him human. He eventually rescues her from a race of warlike demons. Tnarrud (talk) 21:36, 3 June 2023 (EDT)

As it happens I was already reading that discussion. I think my response would be much the same as yours - certainly, animal costumes existed, but they were not used for the same reasons, nor (apparently) called the same thing. I might respond there, but I'm a little busy at work now. --GreenReaper(talk) 12:49, 28 June 2011 (EDT)

Also, whenever I try to edit a section or add a new section, the wiki tries to replace the entire text with the section. Any thoughts on why this is? It may have something to do with the fact that I am using Internet Explorer, which gives me problems in general on this Wiki. Equivamp 12:45, 28 June 2011 (EDT)

What version of IE is it? Does it happen if you do turn off the advanced editing functions in preferences so that you no longer have the WikiEditor toolbar showing? --GreenReaper(talk) 12:49, 28 June 2011 (EDT)

+ ::It's the newest version. The only difference between the newest version and the older one (which I used on my PC) is that this allows me to edit, as long as I do not scroll down the page, whereas the older would simply lock up my computer if I even went to an edit page. The only way I am able to edit on this laptop I often use is by typing without scrolling too much, and then clicking the "Changes" tab, where it allows me to scroll down to click save. I have just turned off the advanced editing functions, and it still did it. Equivamp 13:03, 28 June 2011 (EDT)

Tabyhunterwolf[edit]

Hello? May I ask how to create a page? Why can't find a button to create a page. I am new to this wiki. I would love to contribute to this wiki website. --Tabyhunterwolf(talk) (5 November 2019) (12:42 AM Malaysia Time)

May I have the demographics for it, I am conducting research dating anywhere from 1981 to 2008 before any real info existed.

Disregard the email I just sent[edit]

You took care of it. Equivamp 21:44, 2 July 2011 (EDT)

Actually, now might be a good time to ask. I'd like to be able to fight vandalism with greater ease. And while it wouldn't have helped much in this last situation, would it be too much of me to request rollback privelages? Equivamp 21:55, 2 July 2011 (EDT)

Sure. --GreenReaper(talk) 22:01, 2 July 2011 (EDT)

Wow, really? I was honestly expecting a "I'm sorry, but..." (Especially considering my recent ousting as an EDiot.) Thanks! Equivamp 22:06, 2 July 2011 (EDT)

Just keep in mind what is not vandalism. --GreenReaper(talk) 22:08, 2 July 2011 (EDT)

Altering/deleting species profile[edit]

After a few years of it being there, I suddenly found a user "Spirou" putting my Monoceros page up for deletion. When I undid his edit and asked why, he deleted it in its entirety and replaced it with a 'redirect'.

Just curious why I was singled out. Or are all http://en.wikifur.com/wiki/Category:Fictional_species pages due to to be similarly deleted/redirected if any single WikiFur editor decides that a 'custom species' isn't to his or her liking? If you're nuking all of them, then no worries, I understand. But if it's just this page, I'd really like to know why.

There are multiple monoceri played online, and yes, I've referred others (esp. on SpheresMU*) to that page for reference. Just because no others of them are WikiFur members with their own page yet doesn't mean that the fictional species entry for monoceri should be deleted. Some fairness or explanation would be highly appreciated. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Tugrik (talkcontribs) .

AFF postings[edit]

Mr Reaper, please do not mention my name at Flayrah.com when linking to AFF postings I made. I do not wish for my name to appear anywhere on that site. -- Oliver

Policy Question[edit]

Do I need permission to write an article about somebody or could I create a stub based off of information on someone simply based off of their FurAffinity information? Equivamptalk 12:17, 14 July 2011 (EDT)

Anyone can start an article on any topic, unless a personal exclusion is in effect. --GreenReaper(talk) 12:32, 14 July 2011 (EDT)

This has nothing to do with me[edit]

I don't want Meepsheep here any more than you if he acts like this. Equivamptalk 02:17, 17 July 2011 (EDT)

Hello[edit]

There is a discussion that needs your attention at Talk:Encyclopædia Dramatica (.ch) <o> 03:58, 26 July 2011 (EDT)

I skimmed over it a few minutes ago, but it didn't seem like any consensus had been formed as to do anything that would require a curator. The editing community as a whole makes the decision here, we just facilitate them, so you'll need to try to work things out with the regular editors of that article rather than appealing to authority. --GreenReaper(talk) 04:01, 26 July 2011 (EDT)

Question[edit]

Are you going to permaban the IP (98.245.197.226) as well? This one is unique in that it isn't a proxy, but... Equivamptalk 23:46, 26 July 2011 (EDT)

Re:[edit]

I'll see if that works; thanks for the tip. Equivamptalk 15:43, 27 July 2011 (EDT)

Hm...I must have a different layout for Yahoo, I'm not seeing any of the buttons I'm supposed to click. Equivamptalk 15:49, 27 July 2011 (EDT)

I found it, but It leads me to a blank page. Equivamptalk 16:00, 27 July 2011 (EDT)

However, eBuddy works. Equivamptalk 16:12, 27 July 2011 (EDT)

Well, I talked to him. Nothing was really accomplished, however. He accused me of attacking him when I was merely asking why he wanted the section removed, which he didn't give a clear answer to. He said he didn't want people googling his name to find out about FA, so I suggested not indexing it, which you've apparently done. However, he then said it was pointless to have the article at all if Google can't find it, to which the only solution is personal exclusion, but he didn't want that either. Then he did want it. He seemed to have changed his mind again by the end of the discussion, and said the information was inaccurate. I advised him to correct it, then threatened to blank it immediately after. All the while making passive aggressive insults and threatening to tattle on me to you for "bringing drama" and telling me I'm lucky he didn't have me banned, despite having done nothing wronf. In fact, I was more polite than usual. Also, you apparently "told him about me" but I don't know what you said. All in all, it only managed to shave a few years off my lifespan, because I still don't know what he wants or what happened. So, I was wondering if you could explain to me what I'm supposed to do/have done, or talk to him yourself. Equivamptalk 17:40, 27 July 2011 (EDT)

We've had further conversation. This sort of thing happens every now and again in some cases. For the record, all I really told him about you was that you wouldn't respond well to vague threats - which was apparently correct. --GreenReaper(talk) 21:21, 27 July 2011 (EDT)

It's not that I thought you said anything bad, he just alluded to it enough that it seemed like something important. Equivamptalk 21:30, 27 July 2011 (EDT)

RBW boat party notice[edit]

Hi GreenReaper,

That's actually a very good point - it seems to be a UKFur issue. If you go here : http://forum.ukfur.org/forum/86-ukfur-events/, and look at the RBW forum 'last updated' thing on the right, it (currently) says 124 topics, but the forum itself is only showing 3 pinned topics.... I've PM'd the admins about it and I'm waiting on the response. In the meantime, you can search the UKFur boards, using "RBW boat party" (minus the quotes) as search criteria, and the article is (currently) the 4th one down. The actual comment from Miyabi (aka sneppid) is post #19 and reads as follows:

We've sortof dropped the ball on this – we're all quite enjoying the time off; not having massive heart palpitations and not being plunged into huge personal debt is a really nice feeling :3 We're also pretty busy managing LF stuff (well, most of us are, anyway). We'll probably make an official announcement soon but for the time being don't hold your breath for a 2011 boat party – think 2012 instead. We couldn't get the Erasmus at all for the dates we wanted this year, which wouldn't be a huge problem but we'd like to keep the vessel the same. Sorry about the radio silence, but will keep you posted re: 2012.

So, no "official" announcement generally available, no. If that changes, I'll update the article (assuming you're happy with this as a reference - I can email you a screenshot if you like. :) Bezel 05:15, 2 August 2011 (EDT)

The issue with UKFur should now be fixed - apparently there were some unexpected hiccups when the RBW posts were moved from "conventions" to "events", which have now been corrected. Bezel 11:06, 3 August 2011 (EDT)

Furnal Equinox Edits by Non-Directors/ConCom[edit]

Hey Green, We've all been through this before. dan skunk is reversing edits on the page, after I removed the "see other/danskunk" and he placed it back. With me removing again. As a director of the convention and concom, speaking with others on said places. We do not wish his wikifur linked from our page article. He has mention in the article and that is enough, he has and still continues to cause problems for us, including many threatening e-mails sent to myself and other directors of the convention in the last few months. We would appreciate if he was blocked from editing our page, or our page was locked from edits, except from anyone of the directors. Scani, Myself, Blindsight, Pakesh or Arctic. At the least I'd like dan skunk to be prevented from editing our page. We don't need more issues then we already have with him and his problems.

Shane Nicholson Director/ConCom - Furnal Equinox

Perhaps it's poor form for me to interject on user talk pages, but I noticed this change had felt compelled to jump in because you're asking for administrative lockdowns on this article. Generally, I feel it is not appropriate policy for pages to be locked down to a whitelist of official authors who can contribute. I help run a convention, so I have a similar perspective about public perceptions and controlling impressions. We do this through our convention website, and I think that's the appropriate place for controlled messages and positive promotional text. Our event, like yours, has had a turbulent past that got us to where we are today, and while history isn't always positive or engendering of those presently organizing an event, convention, website, etc., it's an important part of the history of the event, but also, often for the regional fandom at large. If items are added which are true facts, written in a NPOV, and are referenced according to standard, even if they cast an event in a contentious or less than positive light, they're part of a total perspective an encyclopedic article deserves. I noticed the tremendous amount of edits/reverts/reedits/talk page notes that have been going on about your event, and I can't find evidence that Dan is "trolling" in any usual sense, though I certainly understand how you might wish him to not publish his edits as associated with your event. However, I think to be true to it's intended form, that's a concession we have to allow to keep Wikifur credible and in a long-term sense, truly useful. I don't believe anyone should be granted a privileged status as to what an article should say because they are elected or appointed to organize the subject matter being discussed. At the very least, I would recommend that if Dan puts up something you find untruthful, the references be questioned and researched by uninvolved parties, and consensus is reached before edits/reverts are made. Until that happens, even if you were exclusive granted access to maintain the article, it would no longer be credible, it would simply be promotional without community consensus and involvement. [I am going to cross-post this to your own Talk page just so you get this.] BlueOtter 17:03, 17 August 2011 (EDT)

Just updated some info[edit]

This is Cloudchaser Sakonige. I just edited "Cloudchaser Shaconage" and "Furry Dictionaries" to correct the spelling of my last name and on "Cloudchaser Shaconage" I updated the External Links. That of course has broken the link to "Cloudchaser Shaconage" from "Furry Dictionaries." How do I edit the main title of "Cloudchaser Shaconage" so "Shaconage" get changed to "Sakonige"? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.247.129.251 (talkcontribs) 07:47, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

Since both questions have been ignored, I'll post this here.[edit]

So you deleted the article; fair enough. However, while the other article continues to exist I find that a prime example of double standards. Also that you didn't allow a true discussion to be held about its deletion seems silly. Equivamptalk 17:17, 26 August 2011 (EDT)

You mean the one about Blu Aardvark? If there's a consensus there to delete it, I'd be fine with that as well. As far as I'm aware, they haven't really been an issue here recently. As for the discussion, I saw four people in favour of deletion - five if you count me - one oppose (from the page creator), and one noncommittal response. If we were Wikipedia, it might be necessary to keep such pages around to inform those unaware of the situation, but I don't think that's the case here. --GreenReaper(talk) 17:19, 26 August 2011 (EDT)
Double-standards? On WikiFur? It's more likely than you think! —Xydexx
Meh. I only saw two opposing (excluding you). And ohai Xydexx, good to see you survived the earthquake. Unless you're a ghost. And that'd be weird. Equivamptalk 17:45, 26 August 2011 (EDT)
Ohai Equivamp. Rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated. The earthquake really didn't do much damage here, but we definitely felt it. —Xydexx
Looking back at it, there were three (four counting you). Equivamptalk 17:58, 26 August 2011 (EDT)
Fair enough. I'll take four over one, especially when they're the ones who have to deal it. This isn't a game for us, it's a waste of time that could be spent writing articles. --GreenReaper(talk) 18:14, 26 August 2011 (EDT)

I'm not playing "games" if that'd what you're implying. Equivamptalk 18:18, 26 August 2011 (EDT)

Thanks[edit]

Just wanted to say thanks for the welcome  :) Bi-snow 16:37, 4 September 2011 (EDT)

Moving Equivamp[edit]

Hi GR,
I'm curious as to why you went through the process of deleting Equivamp's article, moving the revision over, and restoring the old edits. Wouldn't it have been quicker to just cut and paste, or am I overlooking something?--Higgs Raccoon 23:10, 4 September 2011 (EDT)

Perhaps, but it would have left the edits made by Equivamp separate. I felt it was better to keep them all together. --GreenReaper(talk) 23:11, 4 September 2011 (EDT)

TGcomix[edit]

Can you please keep an eye on the tiny community of pedophiles here, especially with their stated intentions to harass 15-year-old girls on TrikiWiki.org, which he uses to write about his personal enemies (eg. Brainwurms, Zaiger420, Thayo). I doubt that TGcomix wishes to be a constructive contributor here; his main goal seems to be recruitment. I doubt Tyciol will present any problems; it's TGcomix you really need to worry about. If you won't ban TGcomix in order to save your wiki from any problems he may present in the future, you should at least tell him that comments such as this aren't welcomed. --Michaeldsuarez 17:25, 11 September 2011 (EDT)

I should also point out they are furry-based comments, in case that's relevant. Equivamptalk 18:49, 11 September 2011 (EDT)
With the speed that GR reverted meep's inappropriate inquiry on my talk, it makes me think it's on a watch list or somethin'. Anywho, I dispute MDS' allegation of being a member of such a community. I'm polite enough to engage in discourse with anyone including this TG fellow but do not want any part of his plans to harass Eq on this trikiwiki thing. I took a look at it and it is in poor taste. Ty 04:24, 29 October 2011 (EDT)
Edits to all WikiFur sites are posted to #wikifur-edits on IRC, and I often review them. --GreenReaper(talk) 04:27, 29 October 2011 (EDT)

Article wikifur.com/Fritter[edit]

GreenReaper,

As of Monday, the 12th of September 2011, my charges have been unconditionally withdrawn by the Crown and Court of Ontario, Canada. On that note, I would like to request my personal information be removed from my article page without threat of moderators such as AshleyAshes re-adding such information. In addition, I would like the note of any mention of the charge be removed, as it now poses as a threat to my future in both personal and professional stances. If you require any written proof, I am in the process of gathering the documentation from the courts and my lawyer notating that the matter has been resolved outright.

In addition, I would like to file a complaint against your moderator AshleyAshes, for personally bringing it upon himself to see that my reputation be tarnished, even after the criminal charge has been dropped. He played the entire matter as though I was guilty from the instant I was picked up, and appears to believe it is still the case though my charge has been dropped. I would like to politely speak with you in private on this matter further, so that these issues may be resolved as cleanly and respectfully as possible. It has been a difficult past 6 months, and I would like to do my best to keep those past 6 months under wraps for the future.

Fritter 20:57, 14 September 2011 (EDT)

Hi Fritter. I am glad to hear that you have apparently resolved this matter. As the information we have is backed by a published news article, some form of reference or document proving what you have said would be appreciated. If it can be proven, I am personally open to removal of the topic from the article about you; however, as we act on consensus and have not faced this exact situation before, I'll sound out the feelings of other editors on the discussion page.
You might consider contacting the newspaper which originally covered this story to ask them to print an update. I also would be glad to update the Flayrah article on this topic, and/or to post a new story there of equal prominence mentioning the withdrawal of the charges.
AshleyAshes is not a WikiFur colleague/curator and does not represent the site in any capacity beyond that of a contributor. He also has no more or less power than you have - well, OK, technically there are a couple of things he can do because your account is new as of yesterday, but he has not been granted any special powers. We encourage all editors to ensure that articles are accurate and comprehensive, although in this case I would have preferred to see an attempt to confirm the information provided rather than immediately remove it.
In the future, I suggest using the "summary box" above the save page button to provide an explanation of the motivation for your edits to other editors. This will appear on the history page as a brief explanation of the edit. Without it, it can be tricky to deal with situations like user A adding information X to an article, user B removing it for a reason in line with wiki guidelines (e.g. a lack of a citation), and user A then adding it in again without giving any response to B's reasoning.
You are welcome to talk to me in the #wikifur chat room, or to email me, but please bear in mind that I am relocating to Texas this weekend and may be away packing up boxes. As mentioned above, policy and article content decisions on WikiFur are made through the consensus of editors, not handed out from above as in most websites, but I would be glad to advise you on how our system works and suggest how best to achieve your goals. --GreenReaper(talk) 21:53, 14 September 2011 (EDT)

Removing pages created by me a long time ago[edit]

Question about terms.[edit]

Hello, I'm Targal and EvilDragon. you should know me already, as I was sometime in IRC.

Hi there! Sorry for the slow reply, I've been busy recently in real life . . .

1. Rante has made classification about furry. as I saw it, but his term in the word explaining classification looks something weird. so I question you looks whether it something uncomfortable or not.

I guess You should know these codes can be seen well on a book of libraries.

http://hellodragon.tistory.com/41

I think It'll be better if they're revised as latin-ous.

I do not particularly like codes as they are inflexible. For example, it says there that my character has a human body . . . but it is half the height of a human, and in fact the stance is more forward-leaning. It also appears to be redundant to define "divisions" if you have defined "detailed divisions" as it can be calculated from that. Overall, I would ask what is the use of such classification? On WikiFur, we use words, and it works well enough, I think.

2. is the word "furry" literary style?

this meaning is that the word "Kemono" in Japanese can ba hardly written on novels, because it's something inproper. but the word "Jyujin" having a similar meaning to Kemono is used often than "Kemono" on novels. likewise the word "suin" in Korean meaning furry and jyujin is also used on a novels, but it's so informal term only used on internet products that it can be written hardly on formal words. (but 'suin' is available half on novels) for example, you have to write 'yiffy' as 'adult furry things' on a formal paper, because 'yiffy' is a slang.

so, I wonder whether the word 'furry' can be used like that or not.

"Furry" is an informal term; you will not find it in any official dictionaries . . . yet. It is however used by many conventions and artists to describe themselves. If you want a more formal term for the characters which we focus on, I would suggest "[cartoon] anthropomorphic animal". --GreenReaper(talk) 00:00, 3 October 2011 (EDT)

Deletion of my article and all other mentions/page/etc[edit]

Hi! I would like to remove any real mention of me, the article on me, etc. I am now concerned about my privacy and the amount of information available about me on the internet, and would like to get rid of it as much as possible. You can contact me via the email listed in my preferences (I assume this is viewable by you?)

Thank you in advance :)

People to Add[edit]

Hello GR,
I wonder if you could suggest a direction for the People to Add list? In particular, what should be done with names that defy a reasonable amount of research? Take "Susan Gui" or "John T Baptist", for example. Neither have any mention within WikiFur, and Google searches combined with obvious words like "furry", "furries", "fursona", "anthropomorphic", etc, produce no relevant hits. Neither do Google Groups searches or trying to guess a Fur Affinity account name.

Should such names be left, or removed?--Higgs Raccoon 17:25, 27 October 2011 (EDT)

I'd suggest removing them, on the basis that placement on the list is only useful if other people know who you're talking about. If the original adder really wants to make that article, they can always do that. --GreenReaper(talk) 17:28, 27 October 2011 (EDT)

Interesting archive splitting[edit]

I noticed your separate Admin/Policy + Technical + General categories for your archives. That is neat but it makes me wonder, does it add more work to archiving? Like do you look at each topic one by one and decide where you want to put it? So eventually, the order they are displayed in when split looks different from how they initially appeared in sequence when first posted? I thought about the possibility of adding month-parent single = cats but that is only for standard methods and would clearly overcomplicate in addition to this trinity division. Ty 04:29, 29 October 2011 (EDT)

Yes. It is more work; I do it because I am in a unique situation as many policy decisions and technical questions have been answered on my talk page, and it may be necessary for people to look through the archives to determine the historical basis for a decision (or just to get a general feel for the site's history). This makes it easier for them, as there's less to read through. --GreenReaper(talk) 04:37, 29 October 2011 (EDT)

I wish to remove my character from Wikifur[edit]

I would like to remove my character's profile from wikifur. I cannot delete it, can you do that for me? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jenesri (talkcontribs) .

I'm presuming you want us not to cover you, as well as your character? What we typically offer is personal exclusion, since otherwise anyone could recreate an article if it was deleted. I have noted your request on the relevant discussion page, and if there is no objection (which is likely), it will be excluded. --GreenReaper(talk) 21:55, 26 December 2011 (EST)

Problems with Internet Explorer[edit]

It would appear IE still has problems editing the site (though it can view it just fine). Editing is possible if I make the changes, then click the "Changes" tab at the top before clicking Save. Not doing this results in me having to resart the internet. This is a brand-new computer; I am using the most updated version of IE. Yes, I know, that's what I get for using it in the first place, but I'm too busy to download Chrome. Is there any reason for this, or do you not know? Equivamptalk 19:27, 9 January 2012 (EST)

A strange link[edit]

Hi, I was talking with someone and they mentioned that there was a link on Timothy Albee's page here on Wikifur that pointed to my page on FurAffinity, (furaffinity.net/user/dreamsong).

While Tim and I were close for years, we were never _that_ close.

I was wondering if someone could change that link? (I think his FurAffinity page is still there under TimothyAlbee.)

Thanks! Dreamsong

Sure; the updated page is at Timothy Albee. Note that you can edit most pages on WikiFur, even without an account. --GreenReaper(talk) 18:18, 22 January 2012 (EST)

Merge Kijani/Kijani Lion[edit]

Hi there, Kijani! I notice you already appear to have an account under User:Kijani Lion, initially created over at Wikia. Would you like me to merge the two?

You would need to login once as Kijani Lion using your old password, so that it correctly records contributions. --GreenReaper(talk) 03:50, 8 February 2012 (EST)

Hi there,
Yes if you could please merge the two userpages that would be great! It's been so long since I've edited by Wiki I completely forgot I had made that account. Thanks a lot! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Kijani (talkcontribs) .
Great! Just go here and enter the old username and password so it's imported (we moved from Wikia, so despite having a user page it isn't a full user, but logging in will fix it), then I'll get it merged. --GreenReaper(talk) 04:03, 8 February 2012 (EST)
All merged. :-) --GreenReaper(talk) 04:18, 8 February 2012 (EST)

Personal exclusion/deletion[edit]

Hi, This is Rhylith, contacted you on FA. Can I have the personal exclusion applied to my/this account? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Rhylith (talkcontribs) .

I have noted your request on the article discussion page - if there is no objection, it will be acted on after 24 hours. I can also delete your user page if you would like. --GreenReaper(talk) 18:48, 11 March 2012 (EDT)

User talk pages[edit]

I thought that only applied to the user page, while leaving the talk page up for public posts and Curators notices. At least that is how I have seen been done since day one - Spirou 22:35, 13 March 2012 (EDT)

If it gets to the point of blocking someone, a notice may be appropriate until they are unblocked. If you just need to say something to them, they are entitled to remove your speech once it's heard. It's not meant to be a scarlet letter. --GreenReaper(talk) 22:42, 13 March 2012 (EDT)
There's further thought on that at Wikipedia. --GreenReaper(talk) 22:49, 13 March 2012 (EDT)

More flag icons needed please[edit]

Hi,

In addition to Mwalimu's request above for the Ukraine flag to be added, could you also please add the following:

BEL (Belgium), EST (Estonia), FIN (Finland), HRV (Croatia), HUN (Hungary), IRL (Ireland), ISR (Israel), LTU (Lithuania), NLD (Netherlands)

as these are in an active article (ConFuzzled 2012) and are showing incorrectly. If you don't have the time or inclination, by all means tell me how to do it and I'll have a stab at uploading a file for you. Regards Bezel 02:46, 22 May 2012 (EDT)

Done. --GreenReaper(talk) 18:37, 26 May 2012 (EDT)
Sorry, but we need more ! :) In relation to the ConFuzzled 2013 article, we seem to be missing suitable flag icons for Iceland, the Isle of Man, and the United Arab Emirates. :) Bezel 15:30, 20 May 2013 (EDT)
Thanks for letting me know - I'll drop myself a note to look at this when I get home. --GreenReaper(talk) 15:32, 20 May 2013 (EDT)

Username blacklist thing[edit]

Can we forbid Weweesky as part of a username? It'd cut out a few of the having to immediately block as expected spammer accounts I'd like to think. I don't know if WikiFur has installed: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:TitleBlacklist#Using_TitleBlacklist_to_control_user_account_creation -- Sine 02:03, 4 June 2012 (EDT)

We do have it (our extensions are listed at Special:Version), but it was disabled. I've enabled it now, so MediaWiki:Titleblacklist should work. I suggest not overusing it as spammers tend to rotate nicknames frequently; it's a little more useful for people trying to use certain elements in names, although it can just encourage creativity there as well. --GreenReaper(talk) 03:35, 4 June 2012 (EDT)

Personal Exclusion[edit]

I was wondering if I could have my wiki-thing, Sparky15756, blanked? I'm intending to edit it at a later date but for now I'd rather have it blanked as it's just an egotistical page that I made a few years ago and would rather it not see the light of day (anymore). But I'd like to keep my account on here for when I finally get around re-editing my wiki-article.

~15756

Since the reason seems to be more that you didn't like the current article rather than the idea of any article, I had a go at editing it. Please take a look and tell me if you still wish to be excluded. (Also, you can sign your name in discussions with ~~~~.) --GreenReaper(talk) 03:34, 22 June 2012 (EDT)

I still wish for the article to be excluded, but I do thank you for trying to make it look better. ~Sparky15756

As you wish; I have placed the customary 24 hour notice on the talk page, and if there is no objection (likely) I will perform the exclusion. --GreenReaper(talk) 03:49, 9 July 2012 (EDT)

Re-inclusion[edit]

Hey again, I was wondering if it's possible to unblank and re-include my article? I've prepared a pre-made article for if/when my article can be edited.

~Sparky15756

Sure. I've removed the exclusion and restored the last version; it is now open for editing. --GreenReaper(talk) 20:15, 29 March 2013 (EDT)

Edit and Lock[edit]

I'd like to request an edit and lock of my article on the grounds that I'm tired of two (unnamed) curators targeting my article with edits upon edits, one even threatening to block me from editing my page because I spoke out against them and even received word that I'm not allowed to talk about them on Twitter. ~Sparky15756

Removal of page histories[edit]

Hi there, I've been doing a little editing and article pruning recently, and was wondering if you could delete the histories for my userpage, and article.
I'm happy to stay on the site, but I'd rather some of the old and irrelevant information on the two pages that I've edited was removed.
Thanks in advance!

Account rename (Mcgroarty)[edit]

Hey, Green. Would you be willing to rename Mcgroarty to Ink or McGroarty? I hadn't realized camelcase names might be an option at signup - they usually aren't with MediaWiki. And heck, I'd figured Ink would already be taken. Ink would be my first preference. --Mcgroarty 12:18, 6 July 2012 (EDT)

I've taken the liberty of renaming the Mcgroarty account to "Ink".--Higgs Raccoon 12:31, 6 July 2012 (EDT)

Help with Babysitting Cream?[edit]

Thanks for the welcome. I could use some help with the Babysitting Cream page, which is marked as needing to be wikified to match the Furry Book of Style. Whoever put that macro there, I'm not sure what they want fixed. (Aside perhaps from more citations, but the original author has explained the shortage of cites and I'm not sure I can improve on it much.) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by APDamien (talkcontribs) .

Hmm. There is some discussion of that work already. My view is that the topic is suitable, but it's not a good encyclopedia article. It reads more like a game guide. The choice of the section headers "How to play" and "Strategy" and the constant use of "you" are particularly telling. Description of the gameplay is appropriate, but less in the form of "here's what you should do", and more "here's what happens if the player does X". The article also contains uncited personal opinions about how the game should be improved, stated as fact. If someone has given such an opinion elsewhere, it could be included but should be cited and attributed to them. (You can sign your conversations on talk pages with ~~~~.) --GreenReaper(talk) 19:16, 15 July 2012 (EDT)

Can I have my article removed[edit]

http://en.wikifur.com/wiki/SableQueanVilaya I wish to have this article about me removed. Please do so. Thanks. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by SableQueanVilaya (talkcontribs) .

Page Reversion. (Unexclusion)[edit]

 • After much consideration I would like the page back on track.
 • I would however like to get solitary priveleges to change the page info.
 • This is because other people have constantly changed it in the past, which let to its demise (and my temporary ban), updating it with incorrect info and details I myself corrected over time and time again.
 • It seriously gets on your nerves after a while. I know Wikifur is a place where 'everyone' can contribute and I like\endorse that, but after seeing the disasters that can occur: page protection surely is a luxury.
 • Sure, I would've liked it otherwise, but it seems some people (trolls in particular) can't handle that kind of freedom.

--BillyTheCat128(talk)

Correctly handled by Higgs Raccoon - we no longer offer this option, but advise watching pages with email notification. --GreenReaper(talk) 19:46, 17 August 2012 (EDT)

Unexclusion request[edit]

Kraaa!

For reasons similar to those of BillyTheCat128 above, I had requested an exclusion, most likely because I had self-edited my page (and I also wanted the history to be purged). However, I now would be interested in seeing how WikiFur editors see me. I would like the Diti page to be recreated, so I would be happy if you “unblocked” the page (or make it a “red link”)! Thank you! Diti the penguin 04:40, 18 August 2012 (EDT)

The article has been unexcluded and is now publicly editable. Let us know if you have any further concerns. --mwalimu 10:08, 18 August 2012 (EDT)

Babysitting Cream thumbnails[edit]

It appears that you provided specific thumbnails for the article on the Babysitting Cream game. However, one of the thumbnails was never uploaded (or had the wrong filename), resulting in an ugly bar for the missing image, and the other image was from an earlier version of the game.

I have replaced these using the standard "thumb" feature of the Wiki image reference, allowing the software to generate the thumb by the default method. If you want to rebuild the thumbs, this is a reminder that they are there. APDamien 14:13, 3 September 2012 (EDT)

Oh, and thank you for replacing my incorrect version of the start page with a correct one. But... the way you did it doesn't get a full-size image when you click on it, only the thumbnail (with a link to the full image if you look for it). I don't understand how this thumb= stuff works well enough to fix it, so I'll just leave it up to you instead of reverting -- I hate reverts and will only do them for obvious vandalism or where the editor clearly didn't understand the purpose of the article/section. APDamien 15:03, 3 September 2012 (EDT)

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. The thumbnail was deleted because the software listed it as unused and another editor thought it was superfluous. I have noted its use on the file page. The thumbnails are used because indexed PNG thumbs are much more efficient than the full-colour ones made by default. I did a bit more digging and found that I can force a manual link as well as a thumb, so that should work nicely now.
As for the earlier version image, I replaced it with what I consider to be the "title" screen, which is equivalent to an earlier version of the image. The warning screen might be included too, as a separate image but it seems a little superfluous - maybe just a mention in the text, if anything? (If you can't see anything useful in a thumbnail, it's probably not a good image to use.) --GreenReaper(talk) 15:11, 3 September 2012 (EDT)

Further Confusion Charity totals[edit]

Hi. Have you had any luck in extracting the charity totals from FC for the past few years to be able to update the Timeline of charity donations article ? Bezel 03:43, 4 September 2012 (EDT)

Nope! I can try again, though . . . --GreenReaper(talk) 03:59, 4 September 2012 (EDT)
There were totals for both years in the budgets included with their 990 filing for 2011-2012 - $10,000 in 2011, $7000 in 2012. I updated the charity timeline. --GreenReaper(talk) 22:12, 28 December 2012 (EST)

Policy on self-editing? Just asking for clarification...[edit]

Hey there. I'm Kashi Commodore, one of the newer associate developers hired to work on Furcadia. A long-time Furc player and Beekin, I've now joined the team at DEP.

I have my own article, which was self-edited to an extent to correct inaccuracies. And I suppose it might be prudent to update it given my new position. That thought has highlighted an idea..

I see a few factual inaccuracies in Furcadia related articles which I'd be happy to correct. Of course, that would be 'self-editing' in a sense and wanted to clarify what the policy is on that. I'm not a marketer or salesperson, and am happy to attempt to cite official sources where possible. But I wouldn't want to invalidate the encyclopaedic purity of the site - merely correct a few errors. I could see how I would not be regarded as impartial. I'm not sure if I can say I would be an 'official' source myself, but I'm certainly as official as you are likely to get, which has it's own pros and cons of course. I could provide examples of what 'inaccuracies' I refer to if that helps.

I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thanks. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Kashicommodore (talkcontribs) .

Hi Kashi! At WikiFur we recognize that sometimes the best sources of information are those closest to the action. As such, we welcome such edits as long as they comply with the general policy on neutrality. There should be little problem with correcting questions of fact; if it starts getting into what you see as misconceptions of DEP policy or actions, it might be best to mention and reference examples of user views as well as the company's own position. In any case, we'd certainly prefer that you continue to do so under your own name, and to explain your reasons for changes in the summary box (or on the attached discussion page if necessary). --GreenReaper(talk) 15:02, 15 September 2012 (EDT)

Editing protection[edit]

The edits in question are indeed large, other curators have used this method to prevent editing while making theirs, the pages are only 80% finished, I am not receiving comment on the future status of disambiguation pages, and i'm not using this template as my sole property toy, but to prevent the hanging data from being disturbed until the final edit.

This was done with Kitsune and Vixen, and after being finished and unprotected, users started to modify the entries as normal. The changes are time consuming, long, tedious and a pain to enter one by one. Common courtesy during a curators edit would be appreciated - Spirou 21:08, 15 October 2012 (EDT)

This is not "I will be the only one editing this entry forever!" territory. I'm talking large input of material at one, most of the entries from diverse and obscure references (specially foreign). - Spirou 21:14, 15 October 2012 (EDT)
I can't see evidence of use of this method to protect personal editing projects. It is primarily used when there is a dispute over articles. If you have a large edit which you cannot complete within a matter of hours, it would be best to prepare it in your user space. I will expand on this in the ongoing discussion. --GreenReaper(talk) 21:16, 15 October 2012 (EDT)
Okay, then I will take Sine's suggestion, which is the most logical right know. I will remove (temporarily) the links that are currently not finished (not relinked, but just the ones with name and no description), move them to four folders for the four species/disambiguations on my Wikifur folder, and edit them offline, to be included back at a later time, so I can remove the edit tag, and open them to user traffic as of right now - Spirou 21:25, 15 October 2012 (EDT)
That sounds like a good way to start. --GreenReaper(talk) 21:27, 15 October 2012 (EDT)

However,a friend of mine posted another question in the eng forum but none has answered yet.

Editing the Homepage[edit]

Hello Greenreaper! I'm Valery91Thunder from the italian Wikifur. I'm working with a friend of mine (Escofal, he wrote to you before) to replenish and update the Italian part of the Wiki. We're currently working on adding new pages, but we'd also like to change the layout of our homepage, which is currently looking like this: http://it.wikifur.com/wiki/Pagina_principale . We'd like to create something more resembling to this: http://en.wikifur.com/wiki/WikiFur_Furry_Central . Do you have any useful tips and tricks, or pheraps a link to a tutorial that shows us the best way to modify these pages? We're new, so we're still trying to learn the majority of the code. Thanks anticipate for your interest, we'll be waiting for your kind answer. :) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 79.3.154.44 (talkcontribs) .

Hi Valery! I'm glad you want to develop the front page. Unfortunately there is no manual for them in particular - you have to click "edit" and see what is done - but MediaWiki has a manual - in fact there are several.
On the English WikiFur, we have locked the front page, and are using a feature called template inclusion so that the content of the front page is on other pages. Basically, anything like is actually at Template:WikiFur Central/Something. This makes it harder for people to edit it, which is both good and bad . . . we also have the front page sections rotate each week (with edit links to the appropriate week).
Parts of the front page are on Template:WikiFur Central/Header, en:Template:WikiFur Central/Featured, Template:WikiFur Central/Comic of the Week, Template:Upcoming events, Template:WikiFur Central/Flayrah, Template:Did you know, Template:WikiFur Central/FeaturedPicture, Template:Furpile, Template:WikiFur Central/Footer and Template:WikiFur Central/MetaLinks. Most are protected to avoid vandalism (although to varying levels), because English gets a lot of it. There are also versions for screens which are 800px, 650px and 480px wide, which have their own templates or re-order them.
This is probably more complex than we need, and almost certainly more than you need. Given the size of the community, I would suggest that you consider it a "front page to furry fandom". What would someone new to the fandom want to learn? What Italian-languages resources, in particular, are useful? You can link to major topics, to categories - whatever you have available now. (One example along these lines is Portal:Furry on Wikipedia.)
I suggest that you don't commit yourself to making sections that you will have to update all the time, especially if only a few people can edit it. If you want a featured section, that's fine - but make it one that you can leave for a few weeks if necessary. There is less chance of deliberate vandalism here. Don't be afraid to link to content elsewhere - if there are popular Italian podcasts/shows/news with RSS feeds, you can display links to them, like we do for Flayrah.
I would also suggest looking at our Community Central page (source), and mixing some of this type of material on your front page - as you do with the "new pages" section - because it encourages contribution to these articles, and it is automatically generated. Some of the sections there use DynamicPageList. This is a powerful but complex tool. Try it out, but don't expect it to do exactly what you want straight away! --GreenReaper(talk) 20:56, 11 November 2012 (EST)
Hey there! Thanks for the quick reply, this is a lot of info indeed! I'll start looking at the pages you've linked soon, and your suggestion of doing a simpler page instead of a more "real-life updated" one was exactly in my thoughts. We had in mind to add some links to the major furry forums in there in case some new furs wanted a place to meet people and talk. :) Thank you again!

Protecting the Homepage[edit]

Hi GreenReaper, it's Valery91Thunder again from the Italian WikiFur, sorry to bother you ^^" We've successfully managed to edit the homepage, adding a new layout to it, more informations, and so on. We plan on creating the Community Portal as well, soon. We had another hacker/bot attack, though, that re-edited the homepage. I've managed to restore our version, but still, it's utterly unpleasant seeing our page being changed like that. :( So we finally decided we should add protection to the homepage, but I think, as I'm only a normal user, that I don't have the permissions to do that. Is there a way, or someone, that we can contact to do it for us? Thank you again for your time and kindness. :)

I have protected the main page against edits by anonymous or recently-registered users, and I have granted yourself and Escofal access as colleagues/sysops, since you are the active users at this time. Please use your new powers with restraint. :-) --GreenReaper(talk) 16:46, 22 November 2012 (EST)

In particular I would like the birthdate removed, and the city, and the gendered pronoun. If you need verification it is me then I can post from FA or something. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Xaxoqual (talkcontribs) .

Hello, need help deleting a page?[edit]

Hi there, I made myself a page a while back under my username/character name 'Conjure'. I am no longer part of the fandom and have also changed my real name used in the article here. I would not like this info to be posted publicly anymore as it is irrelevant now. Is there any way you could help me delete it? Im not sure if you need proof or anything it is me, but i do use my real email on here and I have a facebook if need be.

Thanks! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by ConjureVerified (talkcontribs) .

An article does not have to be removed for personal information (such as legal name) to be removed. Even if you are no longer a member of the fandom, the article could stay (and be edited to reflect that) for historical purposes. If these compromises are acceptable to you then the article could stay. Equivamptalk 08:36, 24 January 2013 (EST)

Mobile Frontend extension[edit]

Any chance of getting mw:Extension:MobileFrontend installed? It would make WikiFur more accessible in today's world of smartphones. Image issues[edit]

Hi.

I don't know if it's just me, but I'm having a couple of issues with images not displaying properly - such as the first image in the Furball Run article, and the 4th poster in the LondonFurs article (2012 summer party). Other images, even other ones in the same articles, are displaying ok so I'm not quite sure what's going on... Bezel 15:59, 13 February 2013 (EST)

Yes; these issues appear to affect up to 2/13 of images on WikiFur (and Flayrah/the Yerf Archive). They impact users differently depending on location - for example, I can see all the images you mention, but I am not able to see various other images on WikiFur:Gallery (characters). I have a ticket on file with CloudFlare. For now, please proceed as if the images were in place, as they should show up later once the issue is resolved. --GreenReaper(talk) 16:13, 13 February 2013 (EST)

The article name = Eng: Cool, nice and naughty furries, dk: Fede, flotte og frække furries The air time was/is called Klubværelset(eng: Club room) I was look to add it myself, but it seems a bit to complex for me. I don't want to accidentally mess up the page.

2nd request[edit]

When you have time, can you or one of the mods check out the changes I have made to: http://en.wikifur.com/wiki/Danish_furries Will my changes meet the wikifur standards, or do I need to change some of it?! I want to make it good.

Will it also still need to be marked: This article does not cite its references or sources. You can help WikiFur by adding references. and The use of time in this article lacks definition. Dates should be used instead of words like "today" and "currently".

MrFoxyPaws[edit]

Hi and thanks for your comments:

It is not necessary to use a qualifier such as "(series)" if there is no ambiguity. That said, I don't disagree with the use in this particular case, because it clarifies that it is a series of works. Bear in mind that editors may choose to merge articles about creative works back into the article about their creator if there is no evidence that they have a significant following of their own (e.g. through publication). Not saying this will happen, just don't be surprised if you see it. --GreenReaper(talk) 18:24, 25 May 2013 (EDT)

I created 'Boo and Kye' without (series) but reckoned that in the future it was likely there could be ambiguity over 'Frodo' as somebody may create another character of that name; or, equally, a 'Frodo' page might one day cover my fictional character whereas the (series) one would cover the series. So I kinda hovered between using (series) and not using it.

You're right my stories don't have a large following - is it better for me to try and fold them back now? although i'm not totally sure of the formatting for that. I'm more than happy to have a go. I did wonder about this point. I guess that i thought / hoped the number of stories, and that they are a series (with the cast of characters) would lend them some credibility. Also, they're at least of reasonable quality in terms of grammar and spelling etc because that's an interest of mine, having proof-read a novel for a friend. But i'm new to wikifur so happy to follow the guidelines. MrFoxyPaws

I'd say leave it as it is if you're comfortable with it now; if anyone feels the need to merge them later, hopefully they'll deal with it without removing any useful information. We most often do this when there is a true "stub" article that will never be of a significant size, just a few lines, but consistency can be a factor as well. Incidentally, you can sign and date your name in discussions with ~~~~. --GreenReaper(talk) 18:56, 25 May 2013 (EDT)

Locking my Page[edit]

Dear GreenReaper,

I am the original and owner of DiWolfe and the page of (well I didnt make it someone else did) and I would like to see if my page can be blocked from google searches, specifically and what it would take to do so. If not then I would just like the page deleted because I do not want it showing up in google searches.

Please let me know if possible and what to do to prove I am who I am if there are any doubts.

-DiWolfe

Hi DiWolfe. I don't see a problem with deindexing it, given the current content. I've added a noindex tag. Google seems to be a bit obstinate about removing it from its index currently, but I'll try again in a few hours. (It often takes a couple of days to percolate through, anyway.) --GreenReaper(talk) 21:13, 28 June 2013 (EDT)

New page for Lobocursor Lyceus, HELP![edit]

H!

I am new here, somebody made a stub of me here but with wrong information. Trying to be less solitary, I think that maybe I need to correct the page by myself. I just finished so I hope you can check it and approve it or else. My changes do not show in my friends machines but only for me. :(

I hope you can check the page and help me with this. Thank you in advance! :) Pd. this is the page Lobocursor_Lyceus

-- Lobocursor

Hi Lobocursor. Thanks for taking the time to contribute to WikiFur! Editors have already had at the article, but here's a few comments:
 • File:Lyceus Wikifur.jpg doesn't mention who the artist is, which we would like to do. If it is by you, just adding "by himself" is fine.
 • We generally don't mention copyright of a character because it is implicit. (Registered trademarks do get mentioned, but more because there is other information that comes with that, and references.)
 • The "admin comment" you mentioned in an edit summary was probably an attempt by Spirou to distill your own comment (". . . failed attempt to made a comic strip and novel with them").
 • Use of "show preview" and edit summaries for each saved edit are a good idea (we're not always perfect here, either :-).
 • You can sign your name and the date on talk pages with four tildes (~~~~), or use three for just your name, five for just the date.

Edits are meant to be visible immediately, but sometimes are cached, especially for visitors. I've cleared the cache of the page on our servers, although it may still not be visible for a few hours at your friends' end. --GreenReaper(talk) 04:13, 29 June 2013 (EDT)

Adding Navbox to the italian Wikifur[edit]

Hello Green Reaper! In order to better sort the pages of the italian Wikifur, I was thinking about adding Navboxes templates under some pages (just like the ones the English Wikifur has under the convention related pages). I've seen, however, that the Navbox template doesn't work unless I install the ParserFunctions extention, which I couldn't install myself (it's way too much for my computer knowledges). Is there a way to make th installation easier, or should it be done by someone else?
Thanks for your time and patience, and I understand you're at AC now, so I'll wait for your response after your return. :)
Valery91Thunder 03:11, 4 July 2013 (EDT)

Hey Valery! ParserFunctions is already installed on all instances of WikiFur, so it should work. Note that we're on a slightly older version so some of the very newest features may not be available. --GreenReaper(talk) 12:56, 8 July 2013 (EDT)

Cannot reset password[edit]

Hello. This is user bunnyhugger, though I can't prove it. I forgot my password months ago and have been unable to reset it. I have tried numerous times to have a new password sent, but I never receive the email. The email address on file is probably my ameritech.net address, which is an AT&T address. Unfortunately, AT&T likes to go crazy blocking mail from any IPs they consider suspect. My best guess as to why I do not receive the mail is that AT&T has blacklisted wikifur.com. If that isn't it, then I have no idea.

Is there anything I can do to get access to my account back? 75.7.197.101 03:16, 10 July 2013 (EDT)

Request for exclusion...[edit]

Hi, I'd like to request personal exclusion of both Leam and Adjectivecat. Please see this for more information http://en.wikifur.com/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Leam

I may not have a full understanding of the ethics or etiquette of wikis, but I know that inaccurate and obsolete information is more harmful than no information.

Thanks! Leam 03:19, 18 July 2013 (EDT)

I've noted your request on Talk:Adjectivecat. Leam redirects to Adjectivecat and so will show the same template; unless you meant User:Leam (which we can delete outright if you wish, as it's a user page). --GreenReaper(talk) 11:29, 19 July 2013 (EDT)
Thanks. If possible, I'd prefer that both Leam and Adjectivecat both have the same template and that Leam no longer redirect. Please go ahead and delete User:Leam. Leam 18:26, 20 July 2013 (EDT)
Hi, GR, maybe I was confusing with my last message or there is something holding up my request? But the "same template" I was hoping to apply to Leam and Adjectivecat is the personal exclusion one. I appreciate that one doesn't redirect to the other anymore, but I'd like them both to be excluded from Wikifur. Thanks, and sorry if I was unclear previously. Leam 20:01, 27 July 2013 (EDT)
The articles were both excluded several days ago; however, the cached versions were not cleared. I have done this now and you should see the exclusion notice even if not logged-in. --GreenReaper(talk) 20:04, 27 July 2013 (EDT)

Article removal request[edit]

I'd like you to remove and exclude further creation and editing the article of hu:Tanathy because he doesn't want to appear any form on any site, and also let any short of information be shared. Both Hungarian admins Neo_21670 and KékPáfrány was asked previously, but it was only proteced from further editing (without any reason). Thanks for your help. --109.61.84.35 19:58, 26 July 2013 (EDT)

Hi there. I am aware of this situation; I recently removed protection from the article, and the subject of the article edited it. However, personal exclusion is not a global directive, but specific to those language editions which have decided to use it. I will not enforce the removal of an article over the objections of local editors unless I see a compelling reason to do so. --GreenReaper(talk) 20:14, 26 July 2013 (EDT)

Sannse censorship[edit]

I'm afraid I will be closing this wiki at the end of the week. I would suggest that you contact GreenReaper of WikiFur, I know that he has helped with hosting in a similar situation.

I got contacted a week ago with the threats to shut down my wiki because she's insisting that because I'm documenting instances of slapping in anime and stuff that I must be 'eroticizing' it as some kind of 'fanservice' and that it somehow breaks the Terms of Use. I completely disagree and can't find where the Terms are broken but this doesn't seem to matter as she's not budging and seems intent on bringing down the hammer regardless of how many explanations or offered concessions I make.

She asked I contact you for suggestions on how to retain the wiki so I was wondering if you might know. I know how to Special:Export so but this only appears to cover articles but not the image files I was hosting on them. At this point since so many images haven't even been identified (I just raided a blog post where the creator didn't attribute them to specific series/episodes/characters) they're very important to identifying some unknown scenes.

She mentioned something about bots that could download images from a wiki for us. Would you be familiar with how to do this? If not then I guess I have to get to the manual downloading which sucks. Ty 06:50, 13 August 2013 (EDT)

Hmm. Actually, I don't believe I've ever hosted a migrating wiki, apart of course from WikiFur itself. The Uncyclopedia crew have more recent experience of moving from Wikia hosting and it might be best to ask them what they did. My largest contribution to that was MediaWikiAuth, which lets people login and transfer their account from another wiki (and which should actually work with current versions of MediaWiki after their gentle ministrations). Wowpedia also left with a lot of files.
When it comes to a wiki-specific tool for image transfer, you might want to look at pywikipediabot's imagetransfer.py. I haven't used it but if you can whip up a family file for your wiki and a target instance of MediaWiki to put it onto (several hosts offer turnkey MediaWiki installs), it may work. There are many tools you can use to create an image of a site; I'd suggest trying HTTrack and see how you go if the image transfer doesn't work out. --GreenReaper(talk) 07:54, 13 August 2013 (EDT)

Reverts[edit]

The IP that's been editing my page and Seto's really needs blocked, if possible, or our pages locked to logged-in accounts only. It is not. We are not in an open relationship, never have been, and never will be. She's bothered us before on other sites, she's just following me here. WikiFur does have langauge interwikis, but does not have CentralAuth or a shared user database. You have to register a separate account. FurrTrax[edit]

I made some changes further to the FurrTrax page, incorporating a bunch of edits by someone, as i said not a wiki expert, but i like the way it looks now. If its alright with you, i would like to update the page myself as needed once a month, occasionally a user known as foxxer may also make minor changes as needed. The reason i link to staff is so that there is always a life line of contact for those who need help on the site, or if trouble starts either drama related or malfunctions wise, the word can spread quickly, and people can find out who to contact even if they cannot reach the site. Thanks for the time bro.

Hi Green,

Seems Spirou has gotten involved in an editing dispute where he later used protection and false citations (IE: providing a citation for a fact when the citation is openly stated to be the mere speculation of an individual). I have written a war and peace epic on the topic and would appreciate your guidance, as this kind of behaviour from Spirou is becoming routine much to the dismay of involved editors. Having an account would be a start. WikiFur editors generally become colleagues after an extended period of editing (in the order of over six months and a thousand edits), such that they become familiar with how the site and that other colleagues can judge their suitability. Most editing can be done by any registered user. --GreenReaper(talk) 04:17, 15 March 2014 (EDT)

File upload problems[edit]

Good evening, I'm having trouble with a file I uploaded (this one). It had too much whitespace when I uploaded it, but when I cropped it, it came out skewed in the upload. So I uploaded the original again, but then the previous version looked fine, so I reverted, only to have it come out skewed again. Frankly, I'm stumped. Is this something you can fix? I've reverted to the version with too much space for now. -Captain Video 02:11, 15 March 2014 (EDT)

WikiFur's images are cached and uploading a new one that is a different size under the same name may cause temporary issues because the website is sizing the image appropriately for the current version but your browser is accessing the cached version. I have reverted to the cropped version and cleared all caches relating to that image; it seems to look correct now. --GreenReaper(talk) 03:21, 15 March 2014 (EDT)

Higgs Raccoon[edit]

(Deletion log); 10:09 . . Higgs Raccoon (Talk | contribs) deleted "Talking Angela" (Insufficient content/context: two external links and no text do not make an article)

Could I suggest that administrators wait at least 72 hours before going on a deletion rampage. If it is a crime to leave something in the mainspace unfinished for less than 24 hours then I won't do it again. But elsewhere I personally give people at least 2 weeks to work on stuff. Also instead of clicking the delete button, it would have taken him a couple minutes to convert that into a stub. All I'm saying is a little more effort by the administrators would go a long way to encourage others to contribute. Interstellar Shipping & Trading Co. 08:38, 17 April 2014 (EDT)

Yes, it is a crime to save a page which is just a couple of links without context. If you are "currently" editing an article, intend to return to it soon, but need to make a save for security purposes or because you're changing location, you should use inuse.
Curators are there to help if you have problems, and to help ensure that articles are at a consistent level of quality, not to write entire articles based on a couple of links that you found interesting. If it would have taken another person a couple of minutes to create a stub, it would have taken you even less to provide the same information. If you don't, we may assume that it's not worth anyone's time, and delete it. --GreenReaper(talk) 08:49, 17 April 2014 (EDT)
As I said, I wasn't finished. Either way I hope you will seriously consider asking administrators to wait 72 hours before pouncing on newpages. And sometimes dropping a couple links isn't a bad idea, there might be others who are interested in the topic. It appears there was a bit of controversy about Talking Angela and I have been looking to see what, if any, interest there is. Interstellar Shipping & Trading Co. 09:05, 17 April 2014 (EDT)

The article was deleted for being unreferenced. A copy was moved to Sawblade's user space because they asked for it. Also, it didn't have any furry-specific content; we'd prefer to link to Hawk on Wikipedia in such cases. --GreenReaper(talk) 20:14, 25 May 2014 (EDT)

But it appears in the Species stub pages, also you could say that about a lot of species related articles. I'm all for restoring it, and someone (maybe me?) would properly work on it…just saying…--Tai 1 20:25 2014/05/25 (UTC)

We do say it for a lot of species-related articles! Frankly, we should probably say it for more - you're welcome to nominate similar stubs for deletion. If you would like to recreate the article with content actually relevant to furry fandom (like famous anthropomorphic hawk characters in art and literature, discrimination against hawks in fursuit games, etc.), you're welcome to do that, too. --GreenReaper(talk) 20:38, 25 May 2014 (EDT)

Special:SpecialPages error (other administrators welcome to help as GreenReaper is away)[edit]

I am getting this page every time I try to access Special:SpecialPages via the link in WikiFur's sidebar. I uh, know nothing about what that garbled wall of text means, but I thought I'd let you know in case it is a problem with the site itself. Equivamp - talk 03:33, 1 June 2014 (EDT)

Changing reference link[edit]

Hello there!

I just discovered my WikiFur page (Zaria Melody) and I noticed that one of my reference links goes to my personal Twitter page using my real name, which I kinda don't want :P

So I was able to change my direct link to my twitter account that I use for my fursona, but I don't know how to get the reference changed so it stops going to my personal account.

Can you please help me? :3

Thanks! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 162.157.117.136 (talkcontribs) .

Hi there! The Twitter account is the reference for the fact of where you live. If we remove it, the fact is unsupported, which is not ideal. So, there are two choices: a) find or make another reference for that information, or b) remove or replace that information (say, with "Canada", for which we could reuse the deviantART reference or your other Twitter account). You seem to be fine mentioning it on that account, so maybe you should just update the location information on it. Also, you should probably update your FA account if you do not wish that Twitter account to be seen by furries, as it links to it. --GreenReaper(talk) 18:48, 26 June 2014 (EDT)

Disabling account[edit]

Hi, I was looking for a way to disable or delete my accoubnt, but I can't seem to find one. Can you help? Account disabled (talk) 17:43, 28 July 2014 (EDT)

previews[edit]

Can I ask if you're using an extension for the previews or is that built into the latest MediaWiki? Thanks. Interstellar Shipping & Trading Co. (talk) 12:00, 3 August 2014 (EDT)

It's an improved version of prettyPhoto. I put in a few days of effort into fixing bugs and handling our interwiki setup, and that's not yet represented in the current version - it should probably be moved to the MediaWiki core repository for further improvement. I tested Wikimedia's own lightbox/media viewer, but per the update notice we're not using it - we don't have their needs, nor their templates (which it relies on for details), and many users dislike it. --GreenReaper(talk) 13:03, 3 August 2014 (EDT)

Thanks, I appreciate it. As for the declining editing activity, you where I stand on that. I think if we relaxed the rules and were less like Wikipedia it might help. Interstellar Shipping & Trading Co. (talk) 13:30, 3 August 2014 (EDT)

We've come a long way with our current policies. Above all we need to be compassionate, flexible, and communicative about their implementation. It's very easy to start off on the wrong foot, and if there is a failure in understanding on one side - or both - it can lead to unnecessary problems.
If there is understanding, but not acceptance, that's another matter. Some things are up for debate, but WikiFur is never going to be a free-for-all. (Few successful sites are.) We have tens of thousands of articles, now, and some level of consistency between them is important. Achieving it without treading on too many toes is an important skill for curators to master.
The decline in contributions appears to be general. People spend more time on social media and less time contributing to group projects. Some sites (such as Wikia) have responded by making editing into more of a game, but I'd prefer to avoid this, as it encourages an "edits over quality" mindset. --GreenReaper(talk) 01:20, 4 August 2014 (EDT)

I need some updated to my WikiFur entry![edit]

Well, it's been awhile since it ever got any updates with the current stuff i'd been doing since 2011. [I'd done 3 gallery pieces for Conan O'Brien and TBS. And even got included in the CONAN ART HALL OF FAME.]

I am still doing fuzzy-art off-and-on! [It's been incorporated in my CONAN art.]

But you folks have helped me in the past. So I am holding out a bit of hope that you can help me out now!

I forgot my old account stuff because it's been so long since I used it here. So I had to sign up for a new account over here.

Well, I thought about it when James Hardiman passed away recently. I thought, I am still alive and here and doing some art still. Sure it's been a struggle a lot of times! But I guess I am doing the best that I can.

But I guess I am still here to tell the tale! My email is still mickmoart[at]yahoo[dot]com

So yeah, I wanted to get an update on my stuff...even after Radio Comix and all of that! :D

Thank you so much for helping me.

If you have the same email address, you should be able to reset your password for the account "Mickmo" at //wikia.com (use the temporary password to set a new permanent one), and then use that username and password here. I'm afraid right now I don't have much time to edit individual articles, but you're welcome to contribute updates yourself, or point out specific things which could do with updates or sources for them on the relevant discussion page. --GreenReaper(talk) 16:31, 1 October 2014 (EDT)

Request of possible change on policy[edit]

Request, if possible, for confirmation that third party individuals (not family or legal representative) can request and be granted exclusion for main article users, when said user is still active/non-decesased or incapacitated. First encounter of this type of exclusion example has led to an embarrassing case of mistaken identity (ergo the ban on the [incorrect] user).

Confirmation that this is now current policy will be welcome on future requests for exclusion. Any information will be appreciated. - Spirou (talk) 17:42, 27 September 2014 (EDT)

I didn't do it on that basis, I did it on the basis of the tweet made from the Twitter account linked in the article. That's why I linked it on the relevant talk page. --GreenReaper(talk) 17:45, 27 September 2014 (EDT)
Understood. Explanation by secondary editor indicated further family/legal non-relation to user, just a concerned party starting the ball rolling. Apologies have been given for the mistake and ban. - Spirou (talk) 17:59, 27 September 2014 (EDT)
I was going to inform you to disregard the email related to the (now) closed subject, but AT&T just bounced it back (efficiency!). - Spirou (talk) 19:23, 27 September 2014 (EDT)

Interstellar Shipping & Trading Co.[edit]

Some guy just deleted a people page I put time and effort into writing without any sort of warning or consensus. It was an endearing, factual article about a friend of mine which was intelligent and well-written, and in my opinion up to WikiFur standards. I don't understand why anything which may have posed as a problem wasn't simply removed instead of the entire page being rudely deleted.

Could you please have a look at the deleted page and point out any issues to me so that the article may exist and my effort won't go to waste? Brian vermin (talk) 23:54, 13 October 2014 (EDT)

Hey GR, thought it'd be fair to link you to a similar discussion between this user and Spirou.
As for you, Brian vermin, you are currently violating WikiFur's consensus policy:

User talk:GreenReaper
While it is appropriate to call attention to an issue, it may be considered inappropriate to frequently and repeatedly do so, or to post about the issue in multiple forums and talk pages at once. Those who are interested in the issue will likely find it on their own, and it is generally not advisable to act as the town crier, shouting in the public square. Any announcements that you make must also be written from a neutral point of view, with an intent to call attention to the discussion, not to sway it.

User talk:GreenReaper
As well as ignoring the Speedy deletion policy:

User talk:GreenReaper
Short articles that serve no purpose but to disparage their subject ("insult pages", e.g., "OMFG! Allison is a l0ser n00bface lolol!!!11").

User talk:GreenReaper
If you would seriously like your article to be reinstated, it will likely need more context and a neutral point of view. --Equivamp - talk 01:10, 14 October 2014 (EDT)
I understand what you outlined in the first policy, and I only directed this conversation to GR because Spirou clearly has an unfair bias regarding the situation due to his obvious hatred of Encyclopedia Dramatica, and I feel there won't be any use attempting to explain anything to him because of it. I can respect that someone doesn't share the website's sense of humor, but I feel he needs to be mature and respect the work of others instead of jump the gun and pull the plug on anything that mentions the site due to his personal vendetta.
As for the second part, my article in no way read like an attack article or some unfunny "ZOMG wut a loser" example that you provided. If the article were still fully visible, you would be able to see that it in fact is very well-written and informative, and Spirou had only plucked a few select pieces related to ED to attempt to brand it as an attack article, which it was not.
How can I even improve upon the article when everything I wrote was deleted? Brian vermin (talk) 01:21, 14 October 2014 (EDT)

Just wanted to say thanks for hearing me out on this issue, it was appreciated. You're alright in my book, I don't care what my home wiki says about ya. :> Brian vermin (talk) 10:13, 14 October 2014 (EDT)

Email bounce (Re IOS 8/MediaWiki)[edit]

Hello Green;

Emails sent via the Wiki internal link to your addy keep bouncing back to my inbox. The subject is Wikifur, IOS 8, MediaWiki format issues. - Spirou (talk) 17:16, 28 October 2014 (EDT)

Hmm. Maybe they think you're spam, or WikiFur is? Try sending it directly to my nickname @ hotmail.com? --GreenReaper(talk) 04:34, 29 October 2014 (EDT)
No, not going through still, even changing OSes and platforms, will figure out. Just the shortened version of it, then: Apple IOS 8 has an issue with MediaWiki than has some users experimenting some problems on Apple devices (selection, cut and paste, etc,...) or even accessing their accounts. Just an FYI on it, don't know if MediaWiki (needed patch?) or an issue with the latest IOS release. - Spirou (talk) 16:19, 29 October 2014 (EDT)
Odd! Is this for WikiFur? Using the mobile interface (which we're not, but should be), or the regular one? We just updated to the latest MediaWiki, which had no patch relating to this issue. --GreenReaper(talk) 17:45, 29 October 2014 (EDT)
MediaWiki powered sites, yes, and the regular desktop site displayed on Safari on a iPad 2/3/Air and iPhone 4/5/5s/6/6 plus,... But if you are not aware of an issue, being up to date with the software, the issues people that people are experimenting (no only acquaintances) must be relate to IOS 8/8.1, Safari or a mix (haven't tried editing Wikifur via an Android tablet/phone yet). Already have logged a support ticket via Apple about this problem. Just checking if you knew of any issues regarding this. Thanks for the heads up. - Spirou (talk) 22:14, 29 October 2014 (EDT)
We are up-to-date with the latest official releases (just applied one last night); however Wikimedia sites such as MediaWiki use an even later development version where new features are tested, so it's possible that something broke there which will be fixed soon. --GreenReaper(talk) 05:43, 30 October 2014 (EDT)

User creation[edit]

Is there anything we can add to the user creation/registration process that wouldn't be much of an inconvenience for real persons but which would trip up spammers/bots? Something like a captcha or an e-mail validation, maybe? There have been more than a hundred new accounts registered in the last two days, enough to clutter up the recent changes quite a bit, and all but a few of them were blocked as expected or confirmed spammer accounts. --mwalimu (talk) 16:40, 2 March 2015 (EST)

We have always had a captcha (the math puzzle, which is custom for WikiFur, and usually works better than ReCAPTCHA), as well as other defenses against automated editing. However, over time, spammers tend to degrade these. I'll be looking at this once I've slept. Requiring an authenticated email address is an option, but it would prevent anonymous editors, which I'd hope to avoid if possible. --GreenReaper(talk) 19:50, 2 March 2015 (EST)
Is there a way for an admin like me to see what IP addresses were used to create these accounts? If so, I could look through these for any patterns or ranges that could be dealt with using range blocks. I don't expect this would stop all of the spammer accounts, but it might allow us to take out a significant fraction of them. --mwalimu (talk) 11:43, 4 March 2015 (EST)
You now have access to Special:CheckUser which should provide you access to this information. --GreenReaper(talk) 13:35, 4 March 2015 (EST)
All right, I've been running CheckUser on confirmed spammers for about three days now, and have added a few range blocks . One thing I've discovered, however, is that blocking a spammer is not automatically blocking the IP address they used, and within those few days there are some IP addresses that have been repeat offenders. If it's supposed to block the IP, it's not working. Is that something that can be looked into? --mwalimu (talk) 13:11, 6 March 2015 (EST)
Automatic blocks (used if the option to block their IP address is ticks) take action, by default, for a day. That may not be long enough. I will increase it to two weeks. Nowadays it should unblock the IP address if you unblock the person involved. --GreenReaper(talk) 13:29, 6 March 2015 (EST)
A day might be long enough for the majority of vandals but it seems much too short for dealing with spammers. I'm using 1 year for the range blocks I've been applying; let me know if you think that's too long (or too short). IP blocks get reassigned, and I have to be especially conservative about blocking wider ranges below /24 (the absolute lowest I'll go is /16 and it might not allow me to go any lower). It's tempting to throw up a /24 block on every spammer IP but I probably won't go that far. As I told Equivamp below, we should be careful not to overblock IPs of potential legitimate users. --mwalimu (talk) 13:44, 6 March 2015 (EST)
When blocking spammers, could you please select 'Confirmed spammer' as the block reason? That greatly simplifies my task of figuring out which blocked users are spammers for whom I should run checkuser and potentially place an IP range block. Thanks. --mwalimu (talk) 14:09, 5 August 2015 (EDT)

IP range blocking[edit]

I certainly hope that starts to work. Certainly something needs to be done about this and this; if it doesn't, what are some alternatives? This is cluttering the Recent Changes and, honestly, bringing the general productivity of the admins down--any time we devote to the wiki is spent blocking and deleting spam.

How does Wikipedia handle things like this? --Equivamp - talk 20:46, 4 March 2015 (EST)

What I'm finding so far is that spammers use a lot of different IPs. There are some discernible blocks of IP addresses that can be range blocked, but range blocks will probably only catch half of them on a good day. I have to be careful not to block an overly broad range, as that would run the risk of blocking potential legitimate users. I'm also checkusering only the confirmed spammers, not expected spammers, because with the latter I have to assume there's a slight chance they're a legitimate user (it happens; I had one contact me on FA a couple of weeks ago). To your last question, I'm not sure; maybe GR know more, or you could ask over there. --mwalimu (talk) 13:11, 6 March 2015 (EST)
Wikipedia has custom checks, lots of people watching for spammers, and makes heavy use of AbuseFilter - unfortunately I am not privy to their exact filter settings - as well as the layers of protection which we already have, including most of the standard spam combat techniques. --GreenReaper(talk) 13:36, 6 March 2015 (EST)

Account spamming[edit]

Are there any other admins besides me (and of course yourself) who have CheckUser authority? I haven't always been very active on WikiFur for the last couple of years, and as I'm sure you're aware we had a problem with account spamming. Recently I've resumed running CheckUser and adding IP range blocks, which has helped a lot, but now I'm concerned that if I don't visit WikiFur for a few days the account spamming I'll have a lot of cleanup to do when I check in again, and the problem would get steadily worse the longer I'm away. Thus I'm thinking it would be better if there were other admins who have CheckUser authority and know how to use it.

Other questions related to this:

 1. On a couple of recent days, there have been something like 50 accounts created from the same IP address. Would it be possible to limit how many new accounts can be created from the same IP address per day to no more than one or two?
 2. I'd be happy to create a page with instructions how I use CheckUser to come up with range blocks, but I'd be uncomfortable with the page being publicly viewable, since it might give away information that spammers could use to evade blocks. Is there a way to make a page viewable to admins only?
 3. Can we throttle the rate of edits, particularly for new accounts? We've had at least one recent instance of a bot account vandalizing dozens of articles per minute. (A feature to revert all recent edits by one user in one fell swoop would also be helpful in dealing with type of situation.)

Thanks, and cheers! --mwalimu (talk) 14:00, 27 February 2022 (EST)

I don't mind the page being locked and in-fact I recommend it, but could it at least be locked with the correct information :)?

Infobox Convention[edit]

Regarding http://en.wikifur.com/w/index.php?title=Template:Infobox_convention,

I'm curious your thoughts on changing the the convention infobox line for "final" to either be renamed "last", or an additional line for "last" be added.

"Last" would allow ongoing conventions to list a more recent date than their first date, but still allow conventions which no longer exist to list a final date.

I would also like to see a line added for "next", but I honestly don't know if that adds as much value.

--Woody (talk) 12:39, 14 January 2016 (EST)

Hmm! My thoughts on this:
 • The initial goal of this field was to indicate both that a convention has ended. As you say, "Final" is inappropriate for a running convention.
 • The word "Last" has a similar implication to "Final". "Latest" (or "Most recent") might be more suitable. When a convention is determined to have ended, "Latest" would be converted to "Final".
 • Infoboxes should be accurate, like the rest of the article. "Final" is easy enough because it is possible to determine when a series of conventions has ended; but it may be up to a year after. "Latest" could be updated immediately; but it also becomes inaccurate every year.
Overall I'm in favour of your idea… bearing in mind the caveat that someone will have to update every article using it on an annual basis. (Of course, there may be other updates needed in any case, such as to a list list of convention instances.)
I think "next" is more suitably presented in the lede; it's the first place the reader looks, and likely to be of more immediate use than when the convention has occurred. Not having this in the infobox would be a good way of avoiding duplication of that information. When the convention is over, the date currently in the lede can be moved to the new infobox field. --GreenReaper(talk) 13:42, 14 January 2016 (EST)

Spammer IP range blocks[edit]

Hi. Just wanted to give you a heads-up that we've reached the one-year anniversary of when I started running checkuser and imposing spammer IP range blocks. That means those blocks are going to start expiring and we may see an uptick in spam traffic if spammers are still using some of those IP addresses, which I will reblock as needed. --mwalimu (talk) 12:42, 7 March 2016 (EST)

I think they rotate through various hosts, but feel free to block for longer if you see a repeat instance. --GreenReaper(talk) 12:48, 7 March 2016 (EST)

Email Change[edit]

Hi, I changed my email address (in both accounts: english and portuguese), but even after hours, I didn't receive any of the confirmations. What can I do?--AmyFoxx (talk) 09:56, 10 March 2016 (UTC)

This is due to a configuration issue with the WikiFur server. I will try to fix this today, but it will need coordination with Timduru. Manually enabling your change on our end will not help because your own server is refusing to accept the mail. --GreenReaper(talk) 10:08, 10 March 2016 (EST)

Requesting Page Deletion and Exclusion[edit]

Hey,

Was wondering the the page on me could be deleted. I already made a post about this at the help desk but I figured I would reach out directly as I am really keen on getting it down. I would also be interested in having personal exclusion applied to me because, again, I am pretty big on personal Internet privacy. I don't want a stupid thing I did in middle school without a grasp of what an internet footprint was, as well as the subsequent addition of even more information by people who probably mean well, biting me in the ass.

I jumped through quite a few hoops to get back onto this original account from way back when I made the page initially. If you want me to contact you by email as well to make doubly sure let me know.

Massive thanks ahead of time, Glitch

Sorry I didn't reply to this - was ill, and then distracted by other matters - but it looks like the other staff had my back. :-p --GreenReaper(talk) 17:51, 25 June 2016 (EDT)

Requesting a page delete/exclusion[edit]

A group of old friends made this page - TD666 - relating to an old persona I had a long time ago, and at the time I let it slide; but it's a pointless article and no longer holds any relevance or purpose, and I'd rather it wasn't there given it also links to some places that can be used to personally identify people who would probably rather they didn't. Would you mind seeing it deleted and/or hidden?

Thanks in advance. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 86.150.212.23 (talkcontribs) .

I've sent a note requesting confirmation of this request to the FA account in question, as the domain linked is now down. Note that due to recent issues, access to the FA account may require a password reset - if that is not possible, accounts@furaffinity.net can probably help. --GreenReaper(talk) 17:49, 25 June 2016 (EDT)

Protecting templates[edit]

Hi, The hungarian wiki has some templates in use, whis aren't protected of future vandalism. Can I ask you to protect them? Those are listed on Wikivandal's user page. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 85.66.28.83 (talkcontribs) .

I have set these to autoconfirmed users only. I'm hesitant to go any further, as there doesn't seem to have been any;; vandalism thus far, and generally speaking it's a bad idea to pre-emptively protect as that blocks others from editing. --GreenReaper(talk) 18:03, 25 June 2016 (EDT)
That's fine, this level of protection is way enough, thank you.--85.66.28.83 12:27, 26 June 2016 (EDT)

Removal of page request[edit]

Hi there. My page is intermittently the subject of anonymous vandalism. Rather than creating more work for you guys, I think it might be easier if I just request its deletion. I hardly think I'm important enough that I need to be on WikiFur, although I am important enough to be attacked apparently.

http://en.wikifur.com/wiki/Marko_the_Rat

I can start that process if you want, but if anonymous vandalism is the problem, wouldn't it make more sense just to protect it from that? We typically do protect pages if that's an issue, and I can see it's been done before. Apparently just not for long enough. I've put it in for six months to start with. --GreenReaper(talk) 18:55, 18 July 2016 (EDT)
Seeing as they're too lazy to create a burner account, that would work too, at least for six months. We can revisit it then. Thanks.--marko (talk) 19:25, 18 July 2016 (EDT)

Are you also able to lock my user page and talk page? As you can see the anonymous cowards have taken to there instead. It's kind of flattering in a way that I'm so important to someone but also sad to see them replying to their own fake questions. marko (talk)

Sure, that seems justified in the circumstances, at least to prevent those who don't have established accounts on the site. If you don't want the existing talk there, you can remove it; it's under your control. --GreenReaper(talk) 19:29, 17 September 2016 (EDT)
That was quick! Thank you. I figured there's no point giving them the attention while it's unlocked but I will clean it up now. It's just an annoyance really. marko (talk) 19:34, 17 September 2016 (EDT)

Indefinite IP blocks[edit]

Please don't use indefinite IP blocks on IP addresses used for DHCP pools, as it may inadvertently block other users after the need for the block has passed. Even for servers, IP addresses may change hands, but it happens on a near-daily basis for addresses used for IPv4 addresses shared by DSL and mobile subscribers. --GreenReaper(talk) 11:01, 5 February 2017 (EST)

I'll keep that in mind, but I'll admit I don't really know how to check that. --Equivamp - talk 22:13, 6 February 2017 (EST)
You can just search for the IP address and click links until you get to a whois result for that IP address, but if you want to be more precise, go to https://apps.db.ripe.net/search/ and select "Search resource objects in all available databases", then enter the address into the query box (not the one at the top right) and hit "Search". That should give you the full address block which that address was allocated from (as "route") and the organization responsible for it. You can usually find out fairly quickly whether it's an residential ISP or a server host by searching on the name. If it's clearly a server, it might be worth blocking the entire block for a year, because we shouldn't have edits from servers. If it's an ISP - and it's actually necessary to block, not just revert and warn - block the individual IP address for hours/days/weeks as appropriate. If that doesn't work, try moving up to the IP range block(s) [e.g. "1.2.3.4/23") they used as identified by the query results, but I'd suggest only blocking for a few days/weeks unless absolutely necessary because others using those IP addresses won't be able to edit - that can be up to 65536 addresses per block for a /16. Also, be aware that a range-block message will be shown to anyone from that range who clicks "edit", not just the person who caused the range to be banned. --GreenReaper(talk) 23:01, 6 February 2017 (EST)
Oh, also: the person who was threatening to DDOS the site posted a video of themself killing a mouse "for" me. There was a tank with other live mice in the background. --Equivamp - talk 22:13, 6 February 2017 (EST)
Well, it's nice to know you're worth killing a few mice over? Or maybe it's just a fake video they have a system to make for lots of people. Either way, they're gonna do what they're gonna do. --GreenReaper(talk) 23:01, 6 February 2017 (EST)

A "New" Furry[edit]

Hello sir. I am a "new"furry and am curious if the rumor is tru that furries sometimes use actual fur for their fursuits. I am realy anti-fur and would second think joining and supporting this fandom if ever. Thanks nonetheless Greenreaper.

Updating an old article (also hello!)[edit]

Hey GreenReaper, long time no speak!

After some five years on hiatus from the fandom I've opted to start making my return. Whilst it's probably not smart to jump right back into adminning on WikiFur (and don't worry, I'm not), I think it would be a nice start to update my very own article with five years of changes. I'm bringing this up to you because a *lot* of stuff has changed on my end, including my legal name and gender identity. Additionally, the actual Alexander Grey has been demoted to being one of a roster of characters rather than a fursona, so I'd probably be moving the article elsewhere too given it's regarding a person and not a character. Similarly, I'd probably remove a lot of content regarding character history, evolution, etc. to refocus it on just myself as an individual.

If you've no problem with any of that, cool! Otherwise, how're you doing? — beeps (talk, contribs) 15:36, 10 May 2017 (EDT)

Hey there, I’d like to request rollback privileges if I could. A lot of my work here stems from RC Patrol, and there’s been a couple cases of multi edit vandalism that I’ve fixed using the normal undo and copying an old revision. I feel like I have a good grasp now of what is clear vandalism. Now a days if I’m unsure about whether something should be reverted or not I err on the side of caution and leave it to someone more experienced or ask on the article talk page. —FrostTheFox (talk) 17:41, 18 March 2018 (EDT)

Request For Personal Exclusion[edit]

Hello,

Please exclude the following page entry about me from WikiFur: http://en.wikifur.com/wiki/Darmon_C._Thornton

The reasons for exclusion are for personal privacy and career/professional concerns, as I've been informed that the article is the fourth link related to my name on a Google search. I left furry fandom in 2002 and I've had no involvement since. I don't hate furries, and no longer have any interests in the fandom itself. Please reply to me via email at [Darmon DOT Thornton AT Gmail DOT com] should you need to contact me for verification.

I did not receive a password reset email for my previous account or a confirmation email for this one. I noticed a similar complaint under #Email Change -- am I running into the same problem, or did it come back after being fixed?

I also noticed that the "Add new topic" inputs on the forums create pages beginning with "Forum:Forum:". Something between the <createbox> tags needs to be changed, but I couldn't tell you what. Walkingcat (talk) 20:45, 20 September 2019 (EDT)

 • SoFurry or Sofurry?.

Already trying to correct two of the indicated names (Inkbunny and YouTube/YouTuber), but as you probably have noted, the initial replacement for Inkbunny is taking way too too long to change (at this rate, days) compared with years past tries, which took minutes. Please remove this page about me[edit]

Hello, I was made aware some years ago that a page was made about me when I was part of the fandom with my full DOB and residential information about me. At the time I asked if it could be (and tried to have it) removed it and in the end it was agreed to at least remove my full DOB (which I still don't know how whoever posted this got).

I'd like to just have the whole page removed if possible. I never wanted this and it really freaks me out to this day that someone made this page. All the related links are dead or non existent and I would rather not have this pop up every time someone googles my old usernames. (this happened recently) The page in question is the one below. Please refer to the fact that all the related accounts/references don't exist any longer. Page in question: https://en.wikifur.com/wiki/Keretceres

I don't want to be involved in the fandom anymore, and I wanted to ask you to please delete my page at https://en.wikifur.com/wiki/Alirezatm and lock it

Page take-down request[edit]

Hi there! My name is Conner Teters (Also known as Raenoke). A long while back I created a page about myself ( https://en.wikifur.com/wiki/Conner_Teters ), and now that I've grown older and have learned JUST how much information I have allowed to be put onto it, I would like to kindly ask for it to be taken down. There is just too much personal information about myself there, and I have tried to take it down before, but it gets reverted each time by your antiraid bots. Thank you very much for your time. If you have any questions for or would like to get in contact with me, please email me at connergteters@gmail.com.

Hello, I'm requesting that my wikifur page https://en.wikifur.com/wiki/Larathen to be completely removed. My email at the time is dlkvincent@yahoo.com that is currently no longer in service, and my current email is candycornrhino88@gmail.com.

Please and thank you.

Would you mind removing my accounts?[edit]

Hi there, Foxen here...I'd like to have the article of "Foxen B. Perry" removed and not be apart of your site any longer simply because it's outdated and people are using it to harass me and it contains my birthday and old location in the United States. I've also changed and become more of a private person and gone into therapy and afraid my therapist will come across my old drawings and have been doing everything I can to remove everything until further notice. I created the Wiki when I was still pretty young and dumb and didn't realize it would attract so much attention.

Also if you could remove the accounts of "Foxen1985" and "FoxenBPerry80s" I'd love that too..I do not want anything too personal up online any longer... you have my private email address on file I think?

I do apologize if this comes off as a little rude... I'm just wanted to be more of a private person.. please and thank you and have a wonderful day :)

TLS/SSL/HTTPS Fail[edit]

This is major fail in 2021:

https://www.cloudflare.com/diagnostic-center/?url=wikifur.com

All the links everywhere link to https://[lang].wikifur.com/[resource]

This kills the browsing. One has to manually edit the url in the location bar to remove \'s\' from the initial \'https\', or install some kind of rule-based URL redirection extension, and make a custom rule. Bad.

Please use one of the many ways of getting an SSL cert, easily and quickly, for free. You won\'t need to go farther than these :

Page removal[edit]

Hello there,

If possible, I'd like to request the removal of my page: https://en.wikifur.com/wiki/Natbob

Turns out my friend made a page for me years ago, without my knowledge or consent, and I'd really rather not have personal information shared like that... any chance it could be removed?

Many thanks,

Re-vamp of WikiFur:Templates/User_Page_Templates[edit]

I was looking for website templates and found this whole section rather overwhelming. Since I created a new template (for Flickr) and found out there was already one for Weasyl, I decided to try organizing the User Page Templates a bit. However, since I'm not sure if that's supposed to be protected or not, I did a mockup in my sanbox. If you like it, I can cut-n-paste the whole thing into the Templates/User_Page_Templates page. I may have a look at the other template sub-pages and see if they need organizing as well. GingerM (Leave me a message) 17:56, 30 April 2021 (EDT)

Personal Information Removal[edit]

Hello,

If you could remove all info from https://en.wikifur.com/wiki/Valmir_Aker I would really appreciate it. I have left the fandom for my own personal reasons and need all information including past rl info deleted. Thank You.

I am under attack online and need my wikifur page removed promptly. It's being used as ammo against me.[edit]

Hello. I am Charem, the one who https://en.wikifur.com/wiki/Charem is written about.

This page is both severely outdated and severely unprofessional. Also, I'm currently under attack on other websites and this page and what's on it is being used as ammo against me further.

I made an edit removing most of the information and asking for page closure to immediately remove this legitimate problem, but a staff member reverted the page back to how it was before and insisted I contact a creator. So here I am.

I would appreciate my page simply being blanked/closed for the time being, until I can update it more thoroughly. I really hope this request can be responded-to quickly. Thank you.

If my identity needs to be proven, please contact me at any of my known contacts and I can verify this request.

Page Deletion Request, Connor J. Coyote[edit]

And thus, when someone gets some time - I'd like to request the removal, (and deletion) of my Fursona page, (located here, please): https://en.wikifur.com/wiki/Connor_J._Coyote - (and all of its history, removed as well); as - I will no longer be using this name anymore, (going forward); and thus - the information within this page (I created) is no longer accurate, and relevant now.

(The wikifur account associated with the page, can also be closed as well, please).

Proposed 'spammer' tag for informal patrollers to use[edit]

I've noticed a fair number of spam articles of late so I've created a template to mark them as such, since I am not an admin (nor do I wish to become one! :D). My thought is that this gives other editors a way to quickly mark a spam article / spamming user for curators to take a look at if deletion and/or blocking is needed. The template is Spammer. I'm putting this suggestion to each of the curators; I hope this is a useful tool. If not, feel free to delete it. GingerM (Leave me a message) 19:28, 16 July 2021 (EDT)

Hello again and. Good news, everyone! Uploaded a file for archiving, but it is not displayed! It is WebP format and it is animation. There are more than 256 colors that GIF can. I thought the backport of WebP support from MW 1.26 was not sufficient, but it turns out this is a MediaWiki limitation, even today. webp is otherwise enabled in MedaWiki as an image format, and compiled into ImageMagick as well (and it is now version 7.1). --GreenReaper(talk) 17:31, 18 February 2022 (EST)

Hi. I can't login, and it's redirecting me to fandom.com to login, but anyway, this is OverGryph. Check my IP. I'm making a web series out of Gryphons of the Mist, so I want these entries to be removed to avoid confusion. Think you can help me out? Here are all the wiki entries I want deleted: Gryphons of the Mist, GRPG, GRPG:SE, Brute gryphon, Bane Sylvr, Gryph Sylvr, OverGryph. I think that's all of them. I want them to disappear off the face of the Earth so my original animation can have a fresh start, and these entries won't show up on Google search anymore. Please assist!

Update: Green Reaper, I made a few pages on wikifur over a decade ago. It appears my user account is disabled so I can't log in. The page I've been working on is https://en.wikifur.com/wiki/OverGryph I would like to have it deleted since the edit history can be searched up on Google. I've changed the story a lot since I made the wikifur page, and by simply existing, the wikifur page is sabotaging my life's work. Interwiki link request for pool.wikifur.com[edit]

Hey, GreenReaper. Wanted to reach out as I'm working on sprucing up the Furry Convention Map. While doing so, I was looking to add an edit summary that linked back to another WikiFur page (The Menagerie) but discovered that the script for the map is hosted on https://pool.wikifur.com, so a standard internal link won't work. I thought it would be good to suggest the addition of an interwiki link addition to Wikifur, i.e. wikifur:The Menagerie or wf:The Menagerie. This does not yet appear to be implemented on the pool subdomain, per its Special:Interwiki page.

I know this is a bit of a niche request, but it would be a quick change that allows for easy navigation between links in edit summaries on this subdomain. Thanks for your time! JaredTheWolf (talk) 17:00, 6 July 2022 (EDT)

I see you removed the request and just ignore it but don't worry about it as we decided ultimately to rebrand the service, it also no longer has a furry first approach and the website has also been removed. AllFurRadio Ownership change[edit]

Hi, I wanted to ask if we could please have the AllFurRadio page updated with the current ownership. As of 10/28/2023 AllFurRadio is now owned by Sheba Metaluna. I was also hoping that I could request my wiki fur page be opted back in.

My wiki page was https://en.wikifur.com/wiki/Sheba_Metaluna but when I was younger I opted out because I was worried about so much of my information being on there, but now it pretty much is anyway lol. I would like to ask that you only use Sheba Metaluna and not my given name as I don't use my given name anywhere online. I am Sheba Metaluna on all platforms that I have an account on.

The more damaged pages of the attack[edit]

Hello! Someone mentioned that you are the person to talk to about the code of the site. It seems like the pages with the nyan cat gif, such as my con (TEC) somehow have the html edited directly. The div element that contains the main page content has a style attribute added, and there is an 'a' and 'p' element added for the gif and text. I just used chrome's inspect feature to look at the html of the page. Hope this info helps.

Hi GreenReaper! Spirou pointed me here. Was wondering if it would be possible to have my username changed from FelixSilverCLaw to TarinCoyote to better reflect my current fursona. Made this account when I was using a different character, but have since retired it. Thanks! Tarin Coyote (talk) 13:35, 27 February 2024 (EST)
