Overview[edit]
The 2010s continue to see a proliferation of furry content on the internet, more new members of fandom and rise of social acceptance on fandom in media, despite the ongoing impact of the late-2000s recession. Attitude towards furries on the Internet has improved from the last decade.
By year[edit]
2010[edit]
Conventions[edit]
Anthrocon, the largest-attended furry convention in the world since the 1990s, counts over 4000 attendees for the first time.
Five new conventions are started in 2010, all in North America.
- NakamaCon - Madison, Wisconsin
- What the Fur - Montreal, Quebec
- Condition - London, Ontario
- IndyFurCon - Indianapolis, Indiana
- Furnal Equinox - Toronto, Ontario
Meanwhile, the 2010 iteration of AllFurFun, a Washington-based convention, is abruptly cancelled before taking place, and the convention is confirmed by staffers as ended the following year.
Media[edit]
The October 10 premiere of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic on US television network The Hub is followed by the unexpected burgeoning of popularity and Internet meme generation from well outside the series' intended age and gender demographic. The impact of MLP:FiM is also felt in furry fandom artwork and literature, with both discussion of cross-pollination between the furry fandom and the population of "bronies" (lit. "bro ponies") as well as Fur Affinity paying tribute to MLP:FiM with a themed header banner.
2011[edit]
Conventions[edit]
Eurofurence, the largest-attended furry convention in Europe (or anywhere outside of North America), counts over 1000 attendees for the first time.
The Czech Republic plays host to its second concurrently-running large-scale convention, ZodiaCon, beginning this year.
Media[edit]
The launch of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim leads to the growth in fandom popularity of Argonian characters.
