Template:Dated prod The Taran race is a race of centaur furs, or 'taurs created by Michael A. Love (chard malamune). They live on a small moon of the planet Azad named Tara. Tarans aren't highly advanced, and only a few can probably be found on Earth.

Geology of Tara

Tara is not a very large moon, so it cannot hold a large population. Tara has one ocean, two continents, and no ice caps, though it's said to have had ice caps hundreds of years ago. The common temperature is tropical in areas of Cleona, and hot and arid around Torinia. Snow is never seen on Tara, making the 'white sand' seem very odd to the few who have ever left the planet.

Cleona

Cleona, the more populated part of Tara, is covered in lush and exotic greenery. Animals in the area are small and plentiful, and rain comes often, though not too terribly often. All rainwater is clean, as the oceans of Tara have no salt, meaning that the rainwater is saltless as well. Most Tarans live here, on Cleona, and it is said to be a land of peace, prosperity, freedom, and life. People of Cleona usually believe in the god Surma, who's said to keep the land fertile, and keep Darius, god of Torinia, away. There are almost no metals found in Cleona, and the people there, as well of the rest of Tara, are mostly primitive.

Torinia

Torinia, the lesser part of Tara, is the exact opposite of Cleona. It's dry, sparsely inhabited, and dominated by beasts which have forced the Torinians, Tarans of Torinia, to the bottom of the food chain. It nearly never rains around Torinia, and the people there make a sparse living. Torinia's geology is very simple, but its past is not.

Culture of Cleona

Common life

Taran life seems, for the most part, luxurious on the outside. One highly notable thing which defines who and what Tarans are is their communications with flora. Tarans have the ability to communicate with and command plant life of all sorts, in several ways. It takes hard work, and expends good amount of energy unless the skill is practiced often. Control includes sight through lesser animals, movement and growth of plant life (which can be accelerated and changed to an amazing rate), and a sense of what a plant needs and when. Tarans usually focus on one type of plant and stick with it, making them highly proficient in its control.

Cleonians generally live together in colonies of about forty people, sharing everything between themselves. They have no government, and generally do not converse with other 'tribes'. Some tribes share lives less than others, simply living in the same area and giving to the needy when absolutely necessary. Most Tarans sell goods made of plants they work with almost exclusively, and do not teach their art to any others, for fear of competition. Taran homes are grown straight from the ground by specialized home builders. Home growing is the most challenging and rewarding job a Taran can take on.

Religion plays a large part in Taran life. Tarans don't group based on species, beliefs, or gender. Tarans are naturally born as either males, females, hermaphrodites, or pansexual beings, and don't assign certain jobs to certain genders. Tarans wear no clothing, and rarely leave their village. They have no modern technology or electricity, and are without knowledge of the universe around them.

Common life: relationships

Tarans are usually quite relaxed about relationships. Any gender can be mated to any other gender, and polyamorous relationships are smiled upon. Most Tarans choose one mate and keep that person as their 'lifemate', but at the same time, are open to mate with others for pleasure, or even as a form of payment, since Tarans trade objects and services for other objects and services, not money. Tarans teach their children about relationships and such at a young age, and are usually accepting of public displays of affection.

Common life: conflict

While it's rare, Tarans do get into serious arguments which can sometimes end up in a fight. This is where the taran duel comes into play. In a Taran duel, two people are set in two separate squares with one dividing line. If either leaves their square or crosses the dividing line, they forfeit. The base of the fight is watched by three others, referees some would call them, who decide when it's over, and who wins. during the fight, the two attempt to use their abilities to harm the other until one is either fatally wounded, dead, gives up, or too tired to continue striking or defending. When done outside of a village, these fights end in death almost exclusively.

Culture of Torinia

Common life

Torinians are often viewed as violent and savage, when this is not the case. Because of their home, Torinians cannot form large groups. Torinians are inborn with very powerful control over flora, and almost never tire when using their powers, but have the curse of living in a land so barren that plant life to work with is almost nonexistent. Generally, Torinians live on the move, constantly either running from enemies or trying to find food.

Common life: relationships

Most Torinians are given up at a young age and never seen by their parents again. Because they're so sparse, mating is a rare opportunity that some never experience. Most of the time, when a mating does occur, it's either because a pair of siblings stayed together (incest is accepted on Tara, and can cause the birth of a perfectly healthy child), or as a rape. Pansexual beings have no place to a good deal of Torinians, and will be killed for food if found, usually.

Common life: conflict

If Torinians are ever close together enough to get into a conflict, it's usually a physical battle. There are no metals on Tara, so it's always hand to hand combat as well. Of course, Torinians don't usually have any chance to fight each other, as they're usually fighting off the beasts which dwell on Torinia, which, as previously stated, make them the bottom of the food chain.

Religion

Taran religion generally has two sects, Darius and Surma. Usually, Torinians worship Darius, and Cleonians worship Surma. Religion makes up a large part of their lives.
