Recent changes oddity[edit]

May I ask why all the recent edits have red exclamation points beside them? -- Siege 19:12, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

(Not GR, but...) I'm guessing it's an artifact of the upgrading process. Not sure if they're done with us or not - let me check around and see what I can find. --Duncan da Husky 19:17, 17 January 2006 (UTC)
It's because we're now on MediaWiki 1.5.5. They're edits that haven't been "marked as patrolled". --GreenReaper(talk) 19:44, 17 January 2006 (UTC)
Huh. So someone gets to go "patrol" the edits? I thought marking something as patrolled was to call the admins in on it. -- Siege 08:14, 18 January 2006 (UTC)

Welcome to WikiFur:Administrators![edit]

You seem to know what you're doing, so I've granted you sysop access. You may notice a few new tabs along the top, and some other changes around the site in relation to user blocking, rollbacks and the like. I suggest you look over this page if you're not familiar with how to use them. Hopefully you won't need them much, but they're there for when you do. Use them wisely! :-) --GreenReaper(talk) 07:18, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

Oh, hey, wow, thanks! Surprised again by good things - I think that's a good way to live one's life. -- Siege 12:32, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

Upcoming hiatus[edit]

Just letting you know, I'm moving to another city on or around the 24th of this month, most likely New Orleans. Because of this, I won't be available regularly for a while after this week. -- Siege 22:10, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

Don't worry about it - people come and go (and usually come back again :-) all the time. Good luck with the move - I hope you have great fortune in the Big Easy, or wherever you end up. :-) --GreenReaper(talk) 00:01, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
Good luck on the move! --Dmuth 00:22, 20 February 2006 (UTC)[edit]

Reply from aerowolf: I haven't been in to look at the code or the database for the wiki at for a while -- been dealing with disability crud for the past many moons. I'll look at it when I get a few minutes of breathing room. --Aerowolf 06:53, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

What Revar told me was that the database needed to be updated to the latest version. -- Siege 07:40, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

AIM and recent attack[edit]

Do you have AIM? We are having a chat about how to deal with the current spam attack. My ID is mwalimu59 --mwalimu 06:01, 4 March 2006 (UTC)

I would, but I'm not on my familiar machine tonight. -- Siege 06:04, 4 March 2006 (UTC)
Darn - right now, GreenReaper, DMuth, Rat and I are discussing the current situation. We seem to have stopped the attack but haven't decided yet what to do about repairing the damage. --mwalimu 06:08, 4 March 2006 (UTC)
It looks like a simple rollback isn't going to be enough; multiple bad edits to the affected pages ensure that. Looks like it was a group of people who just kept hitting the "random" and "edit" links until they were slapped down. I'd say, be careful of more subtle attacks in the next while; perhaps even going so far as to temporarily lockdown the entire wiki while damages are assessed and repaired. Is blocking someone enough to kill off their most recent edits? Must it be done by hand? But I'm sure that the four of you are already discussing this. -- Siege 06:15, 4 March 2006 (UTC)

Ah. Looks like things have finally calmed down, and I can breathe a sigh of relief. Glad to help fight the good fight. I'll unprotect this page in a day or two so everyone can play again; right now, I need to finish up tonight's doings and get some sleep! -- Siege 06:56, 4 March 2006 (UTC)

GFDL links[edit]

I've noticed that the GFDL link image has been missing since the DNS change. Is that a problem with our links, or with Wikia? -- Siege 18:55, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

As far as I know, it's Wikia. It's been noted on their page for discussion of problems, just not fixed yet! --GreenReaper(talk) 09:25, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

From Talk:RabidRick[edit]

At least I didn't delete it out of hand like Sine has been doing to similar articles. -- Siege 19:15, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

I immediately worried that I'd been deleting things inappropriately. Could you let me know? -- Sine 22:00, 31 March 2006 (UTC)
The practice I've seen, if a page wasn't outright trash, has been to add {{SpeedyDelete}} at the top of the article, and give its proponents a chance over the next day or so to argue for its preservation. I'm not saying that deleting nonsense is a bad thing, though, and I'm glad you have been doing that. -- Siege 09:52, 1 April 2006 (UTC)
