Re: Extinctioners characters[edit]

'ey, no problem :) I'm a big fan of the comic so I'd love to help in any way I can. Now that you mention the Mecharoos, I remember a few questions I had asked Shawntae about them a while back. I could pull that up from my inbox and get started on some articles for them. Aelius 22:13, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

Contact[edit]

Ah, good thing you mention that - it's my primary messenger program. You can reach me at username "aelius_24" Aelius 22:44, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

Question[edit]

Sorry to bother you DeVandalizer, I recently began hearing about you and your cause, I just wanted to ask a question, if someone messes with any of the pages I made (I mean REALLY messes like what happened to Spaz Kitty), I should report the "damage" as well as their user name to you, right? if so, I'm glad there is someone who will take the fight to these vandals, thanks for your time. - RVDDP2501 11:26, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

First off it's no bother.. I appreciate your taking the time to thank me for my work. However I do not really take the fight to the vandals I have to wait for them to come to me. I usually watch Special:Recent Changes for new edits and check to see if the edits are valid. Because I and the other admins check all the edits made there's no real need to report each incident to me personally (though I appreciate the offer). However, if there is a major vandalism in progress you could email greenreaper, myself, or another admin for help in reverting/steming the tide or blocking the offending user. However, one of the best features of the wiki is that everyone can contribute equally -- if you see damage you can fix go right ahead and fix it :) . To spare you from a long drawn out speech I'll say this about reverts -- Unless its patently nonsense or without any value to the article don't delete it, edit it instead or as wikipedia says assume good faith. The best advice I can give is to use "common sense" in deciding what action to take. If you have any questions aren't sure of what to do feel free to contact one of the "admins" or another contributor for help. -- DeVandalizer 14:09, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
By the way, what incident are your refering to when you talk about Spaz Kitty above? -- DeVandalizer 16:19, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

Longcat Vandal[edit]

Longcat has been banned, currently for a month. You can see it in the block logs if you have that kind of access. The second thing is that the user is suspected to have been a member of the 4chan raid crew, a small group of internet trolls that form what is hopefully only a minority of the 4chan population. This crew recently attempted to vandalize a good several Wikifur articles using methods from anonymous edits to registering nicnames to use in their attacks. All of the attacking IP addresses appeared to have been home IP's and all concerned vandals have been banned for a while. Needless to say, the attack was expected and the staff was prepared for it. This is only for your information on who Longcat may have been and any motivations behind the vandalism of the Extinctioners article. --Markus(talk) 12:35, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks Markus, I appreciate your reply, I hope these attacks stop soon, I put quite an amount of work into that page and to see someone reduce it to nothing more than a vile sentence is just horrible. I was thinking it happened maybe due to the fact it was "Comic of the Week", of course, thats just a thought, anyways, I just wanted to say thanks and if I to see anything like this elsewhere, I'll revert and report, thank you - RVDDP2501 16:37, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
The nice thing about MediaWiki (the software we use) is that all revisions of an article we store. So recovering an older version of any given article to thwart vandalism is fairly straightforward. --Douglas Muth 17:26, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
Oh the vandalism stopped from what I can tell. The raid was an abject failure. :) --Markus(talk) 01:14, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

Vandalism protection[edit]

I noticed you user page is protected (nice feature), just wondering, how does one go about protecting a page, obviously there are proceedures, resons and what not, I would just like to know how does a page get protected, why and what other info you think i need to know about, I know my page is probably at the bottom of the list of things to protect but I'm just curious, thank you - RVDDP2501 22:19, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

P.S. if this is information you don't like sharing with others especially those you don't really know (myself included), I totally understand and sorry to have bothered you. - RVDDP2501 00:24, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

There's a proccess for a page to get protection, as only admin can engage it. Usually the proccess is centered around particular people who have articles about them on this wiki but don't want to have a page about them here. In which case they ask for its removal and their request is reviewed. Usually it is granted and the page is blanked, a template put up, and then locked against editing. The factors used are often the importance of the article. For example, Sibe had requested (in his own way) to be removed, but his was one of the very few cases that the request was rejected simply because his effect on the fandom was just too significant.
Mind that this proccess is for articles about people. We don't normally like to lock any kind article because that prevents people from improving it or tweaking info for accuracy. Why? Nobody owns any articles on Wikifur. Everyone and anyone can edit it, that's the point. Though in times of ugly vandalism like last night, a page can be temporarily protected against editing by non-admin users until the vandalism wave has passed. My user page was locked some time ago since I did not wish any kind of vandal to go in and edit it. User pages are for the user to edit usually, and follow different editing rules than normal articles. --Markus(talk) 01:14, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

Dragon Lady pic placement[edit]

Hey DeVandalizer, I just wanna ask you a question about your pic placement edit on the Dragon Lady page, I noticed you moved the Dargon Lady pic towards the top of the page and left the other where it was, I was wondering if its ok to move the other pic towards the top also (jus to to make the placement even, you know), let me know what you think? - RVDDP2501 11:05, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

Usually article text starts in the upper left corner of the article frame. This convention allows for a more consistent structure between articles which allows the reader to find what they're looking for more easily. The reason I made this edit to improve consistency with the other articles, not because you're original correction was in any way wrong it's just that it, in my opinion, more closely follows the de facto article format.
Oh, I see, I understand, thank you for the reply, I just though I would ask before I did something that would be disapproved of, I just have this thing about order & placement but from you told me, I see where you coming from, do you want me to go an do similar things to other related character pages connected with Extinctioners? - RVDDP2501 11:26, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
No problem, I appreciate you asking me what I was doing rather than just undoing it. It will be good working with you to better the wiki. I really appreciate your efforts. I like your suggestion of changing the other Extinctioners character's pages to match. I'll help out later (bed time now) :) -- DeVandalizer 11:31, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

Extinctioners character edits[edit]

Hey Sine, I'm nearly removing those redundant see also's from the character pages, though I'd let you know, any suggestions though? - RVDDP2501 10:52, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

That looks great. Thanks for letting me know.

P.S. Looks like your talk page is getting pretty large--about time to archive. Let me or one of the other admins know if you want a hand with that. -- Sine 19:05, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

RVDDP2501 talk page Archiving[edit]

Yes Sine, I think I could use a hand with archiving my talk page, please let me know what needs to be done, thanks - RVDDP2501 19:52, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

Click on the tab to edit your talk page, and put something like

== Archive == at the top, with * [[/Archive1|Archive1]] (or however you want to name your archive). Once you've saved that change, you can treat that archive link like any red link--clicking on it will bring up a way to create and edit a page, so copy what you want to archive from your talk page into the new archive page, and delete it from your main talk page.

I hope that's clear; let me know if you want me to explain further. -- Sine 02:49, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, its still fuzzy to me, could you explain it a little bit more please - RVDDP2501 03:03, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
Wait, I think I got it, is this what you mean? - RVDDP2501 03:11, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
Looks nice and archived to me, though you might want to move the July stuff to Archive2 as you've called that July. I'm glad you could figure things out from my fuzzy instructions. -- Sine 03:23, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your help, is there anything else you would suggest in terms of making any of my pages better? - RVDDP2501 03:33, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

You're welcome. I don't have any more suggestions at the moment, but I'll let you know if I think of something! -- Sine 03:47, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

Contact[edit]

This might be an odd question but you wouldn't have yahoo messenger by any chance, would you? I thought it would be easier in terms of communication, instead of "chatting" on each others usertalk pages, if you do and you would like to discuss certain topics concerning Wikifur and its articles using yahoo messenger, let me know but if you prefer not to, I understand - RVDDP2501 13:18, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

I don't really use any IM but you can reach me by e-mail using the e-mail this uesr link at my user page. -- DeVandalizer 05:14, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

Mecharoo pics[edit]

'ey, RVDDP2501. I uploaded the Mecharoo articles, though at the moment I'm unable to get their pics uploaded. Shawntae has them at his DeviantArt site and they probably have the same clearance as the other pics used in Wikifur articles, though. I have a few here that I can upload for Tina and Tisha, but at the moment I'm a bit tied up :)

Re: Jewel Vixens[edit]

Whoa! I was reading your Aelius page (one about yourself) and I had no idea you made your own comic (Jewel Vixens), I mean that pretty cool, how difficult is it to do in terms of art work and story telling, must be tough? I must say your art work is very impressive, I can't draw to save the earth, know what I mean. - RVDDP2501 11:40, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

Wow, thanks! Heh, well Jodi takes care of the artwork for me (and a good thing too, since my own work is too slow and not as detailed, heh heh) but the story telling can be quite a challenge. Very fun, though. Glad you like! Aelius 03:54, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

Re: Mecharoos[edit]

WOW, you did some impressive work in terms of the information, I searched high and low for info on those Roos, Good job, man. I have added three pics with licencing info of Thomas, Tisha & Ryan, if you want to do the rest, let me know, I trust you judgment with editing due to what I've seen. P.S. I have a question, In Ryan Roo Jr.'s page, you said his sister was Tisha Roo Hopster, I thought it was Tisha Roo Bushtail, should I change the text or change the link to Tisha Roo Bushtail?

Thanks! Certainly, I'll see if I can get those pics posted soon. On Tisha's last name... whoops! You're right, she's supposed to be "Bushtail" Shawntae had switched some of the characters' names around when he was first designing them, so it must've been a typo, heh. Good eye. - Aelius 20:37, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

I was told by Sine what to do about the names situation but I just wanna make sure of something first, you said Illaroo's name was in fact "Illaroo Joey", right?

Yep, that is correct - Aelius 00:37, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

ok, this may seen like an unimportant question but what is the correct spelling - is it "Mecharoos" or "MechaRoos", just curious? - RVDDP2501 16:29, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Hmm, that's a good question. Normally I see them spelled as "Mecharoos" though I'm not sure if that's the official spelling or not. I'll give some of my older comics a look-see over the weekend. - Aelius 21:27, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Truely sorry, I forgot to ask this in my previous post, just wondering how your getting through with the Tina Hopster pic, I know your probably very busy and all, I'm just curious - RVDDP2501 01:25, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

Oh it's okay. If anything, I should be apologizing for my slow responding :"> Anyways, they were actually cropped pics from their ref sheets. Shawntae already approved of them (he used similar pics for his colored pics that were shown on DeviantArt). Though now that it's mentioned, I'm not sure how to put down the copyright info correctly, since they weren't posted on the web, but I've been given permission to use them. - Aelius 03:56, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

Article Name changing[edit]

Hey Sine, RVDDP2501 here, I have a question, you remember when you talked to me about that Sgt. Greystoke page name situation, how did you go about changing it cause I have another page which Aelius make but he made a mistake with the character's sirname so I was wondering how would I go about fixing this cause I certainly don't want to make you fix it, that would not be fair, so let me know what to do when you have a chance, thanks - RVDDP2501 00:19, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

You change the name of an article by clicking the move tab and putting what the name should be next to To new title:

Then just click move page and there you are. -- Sine 00:24, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

Creating William "Billy" Weazel link (Extinctioners)[edit]

Hey Aelius, sorry to keep droping questions on you like this but I would like you opinion on something, I was thinking of creating a character link to a page on deviantart.com due to the fact the character of William "Billy" Weazel does not have enough information to create his own page, well the real question is I was thinking of adding his name into text for both Forcewave and Mindswipe like this - William "Billy" Weazel and I was wondering if you think adding a link is a good idea? Examples of these links are present in other character pages include Phenix, Twister, P'Tar the Catarian & Tsuneko, please let me know if you understand my idea and what you think I should do, thank you - RVDDP2501 23:37, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Hmm, yeah I'd say so. If characters are related in some way such as that, it couldn't hurt.

Re: Tina Hopster[edit]

Truely sorry, I forgot to ask this in my previous post, just wondering how your getting through with the Tina Hopster pic, I know your probably very busy and all, I'm just curious? - RVDDP2501 01:25, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

Oh! Must've forgot about that. Well, the pics I have are scans from her model sheet (like the ones that Shawntae used for his color pics). Shawntae's already cleared me to use them, though I'm not quite sure how to put in the copyright info since the pics haven't been posted online. - Aelius 03:25, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
