Talk:Squirrel (species)
From WikiFur, the furry encyclopedia.
Some of the information removed in yesterday's edit should be restored, IMHO. What was there may have been more than was necessary or likely to be of interest, but I think the edit went too far in removing information that is relevant and notable, such as:
- Squirrels are not one species in the taxonomic sense, but two whole families accounting for nearly 300 species;
- Squirrels are not just tree squirrels, but also include chipmunks, marmots, prairie dogs, ground squirrels, and flying squirrels;
- We usually include taxonomic information in articles about other RL species.
I was also thinking of creating a "species template" or sample article that describes what should be in a species article. Admittedly some of my own contributions of this type have gone overboard on RL species information without enough about how the species is represented in furry fandom, and this is an attempt to correct this discrepancy. --mwalimu 13:07, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
- I've done a partial restore of the removed content; admittedly the old version probably had more "scientific info" than most readers would be interested in and a lot of that was left out, but I like to think WikiFur articles can provide at least a little bit of "educational" info on subjects like this. I made a few other changes that I hope are improvements; the article could probably use more on squirrels in furry culture. --mwalimu 22:18, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
