Talk:Reynard the Fox

Okay, this is bugging the heck out of me, but I don't like that Reynard has been recatted as a red fox. Here's my reasoning. Reynard was a medieval story character. As can be seen on the wikipedia Red Fox article, Red Foxes weren't officially a species until 1758, centuries after Reynard.

Very, given that the whole idea of species taxonomy didn't come about until centuries after the Reynard stories were set down in print. Also, it's a bit silly to think Reynard WASN'T a Red Fox, given that Red Foxes are the only species of foxes found in France and Europe (Gray Foxes and Kit Foxes are New World animals) and all the other Old World foxes live in the Middle East / Africa (Fennecs, Bat-Earred Foxes, etc.). —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 733 (talkcontribs) . 19:50, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
