Talk:Recreational drug use in furry fandom

This is actually an interesting topic to start and I'm glad you did. I'm wondering though if it could do with a better title and possibly redefining the summary header. Currently it lacks the punch and conciseness of a summary, making the reader read the whole page. At the moment it reads a little more like conjecture. Few things to think about, please keep developing this article. :) --Nidonocu - talk Nidonocu 08:42, 28 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Oh, I readily admit that it's mostly conjecture -- that's the point of the first line. I'm not convinced anyone *could* write this article without relying on conjecture and subjective observation, but I'd love to be proven wrong. :) Perhaps this article should be flagged as a stub, thereby encouraging others to take up the standard? I don't know what else to do with it. Oh, I could tell anecdotes -- like hotel security discovering the smoke alarm smashed off the wall after it went off because of too much pot smoke, then just chuckling and leaving -- but those would just be stories.
One useful addition might be mention of that young filmmaker who chose an underage drinker as one of his subjects in a proposed "positive furry documentary". :-/ But I don't remember the details. --Tom Howling 20:18, 29 Aug 2005 (UTC)

I'm a little uncomfortable with the way alcohol is lumped in with illicit drugs. It's a potential problem, and it's easier to abuse during a convention weekend, but it is still legal. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by AntoniaTiger (talkcontribs) 15:13, 28 August 2005 .

Not in the case where underage people are drinking it. That might need more specifying. --GreenReaper(talk) 16:11, 28 Aug 2005 (UTC)

It has been my observation that drug abuse is actually fairly common among the fandom, and most cons I'm aware of have private room parties where drugs are abused. I've seen advertisements for them at various places around the furry 'net. :/ --Chibiabos 10:47, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

Drug incidents[edit]

I'm pretty sure there has been illicit drug (mis)use at conventions in the past, so I'm removing the assertion that it has not. It's not something people like to speak of, but Anthrocon 2006 (for one) had such an incident. I don't think this reflects poorly on conventions unless they encourage it - whenever you get over a thousand young people in a single place looking to have a good time then something bad is almost certain to happen at some point, and this is one of them. --GreenReaper(talk) 06:43, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Chyra was reportedly on some sort of hard drug when the FWA 2007 incident occured. I can't verify this, however. Spaz Kitty 12:13, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Article currently "Illicit drugs". "It has been suggested that this item be renamed to Recreational drugs." That rename sounds good to me. --EarthFurst 16:52, 25 January 2014 (EST)

I think it's better to characterise the use rather than the drug itself. Perhaps "Recreational drug use in furry fandom"? This would cover drugs which may be legal or illegal in different jurisdictions. --GreenReaper(talk) 17:00, 25 January 2014 (EST)
