A little note on the "furry characters appearing in the background" mentioned at the end of the article. On the relatively few occasions when the main characters wander into crowded areas (usually at or near the spaceport), Mark amuses himself and the readers by including a cameo in about every strip he can get away with it. The first time was when Sam and Helix went to the cinema and kept running into characters from various webcomics. The second time was the famous "winter cameo" period which lasted far into the following summer and where "selected" readers (anyone who submitted a picture) were given bit parts. Currently (spring 2007) Florence is at a robot meeting where she keeps running into various more or less well known robots.
It's worth noting that only characters that fit into the strip's official population (humans, robots and unaltered pets) actually appear physically in the strips; characters that don't fit in appear as statues, pictures and computer avatars. And while some cameo periods turn out really long, it's not really a general rule for the comic as a whole. Outside the cameo periods the only furry characters are Florence, Winston's lapdog Beekay, and some rat extras. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 130.67.96.174 (talk • contribs)
