Break for Freedom is a naturalistic animal novel, written without dialogue, by Ewan Clarkson. First published in 1967, it was reprinted in 1971, 1976, 1978, and 1984. It follows the life of a mink, Syla, from her escape from a fur-farm, her adjustment to life in the wilds of Dartmoor, and her raising of a litter of young.
The novel was first published in the United States in 1968, by Dutton, as Syla, the Mink.
