Secret Squirrel is a Hanna Barbera cartoon character, created in the 1960's.

Origin[edit]

The general idea of Secret Squirrel was that he was a secret agent reminiscent of Danger Mouse, and wore several gadgets hidden inside his clothing. As the theme song points out:

  • A bulletproof coat,
  • A cannon hat,
  • Machine-gun cane with a rat-a-tat-a-tat!

Secret was overshadowed by some of Hanna Barbera's more popular cartoons during the 1960's, including Wacky Races, The Pink Panther and Scooby Doo. As such, his original popularity was limited to a handful of cartoons, much like his Tex Avery predecessor, Screwball Squirrel.

Revival[edit]

In the 1990's, Secret Squirrel was revived and redesigned to star in his own cartoons, which were the backup-features to the new cartoon series, 2 Stupid Dogs. The new secret cartoons also gave Secret his own love interest and redesigned a great deal of the older series for a new generation.

However, since 2 Stupid Dogs went off the air, so did Secret, and he hasn't been seen since.
