Roxikat
Roxikat (legal name Cassidy Barrett) is a furry artist. The character of Roxikat was created in 1995, and is the most-noted character and sometimes fursona of the artist. Their published gay comics Game Boys are Cherry: a Game Boys short (in Genus Male #3 published in January 2004), Game Boys 2: RPG (in Genus Male #4 published in January 2005), Game Boys Summer Special (published by FurPlanet in July 2005) and Game Boys 3: Icarus in Genus Male #5 in 2006. Transition[edit]
Roxikat's creator, Cassidy, is transgender and non-binary (preferred pronouns are they/them or she/her). After roleplaying an intersex character online since 1994, Cassidy, formerly John, went on hormone replacement therapy on January 27, 2021. They got their updated name on a legal driver's license on November 5th, 2024. Cassidy is openly trans, and working in customer service. Lately, Cassidy enjoys singing karaoke on VRChat and co-directing a sitcom completely filmed in VR.
Conventions attended[edit]
- Camp Feral in 2003 hosted Roxikat in Canada, where they ran a Comic Book Creation panel and performed alongside Krahnos in an improv skit, where they switched hats and did impressions of one another.
- FA: United 2007 hosted Blotch and Roxikat as guests. Cassidy was recruited to help run a Life Drawing panel, using some experience from attending life drawing classes in Rutgers University.
- Megaplex 8 in 2009[1][2]
- Condition: Zero Hour in 2010 hosted Roxikat in London, Canada. In preparation, Cassidy wrote and drew a comic loosely following the theme and lore of the convention called Operation: Katnapped [3] where Roxi is a singer on a USO type of tour, but is kidnapped by bad guys played by staffers of Furnal Equinox.
- Morphicon 2011 hosted Roxikat as a guest. It was the last time Cassidy performed Roxikat in fursuit at a convention.
Roxi was an attendee of mostly east coast conventions, but enjoys Midwest Furfest and Furry Weekend Atlanta when possible.
Characters[edit]
Roxikat the character is a well-endowed pink intersex cat, who has two completely different personas: "Good Roxi" and "Naughty Roxi." This is based on a joke in one of her adult folios of the same name, a parody of the Goofus and Gallant cautionary comics from Highlights magazine. Roxikat has been in several comics and drawings, both penned by her creator and by others. The first piece of fan art was from Ken Sample in 1995 and may have jumpstarted the character's popularity.
Roxi and some friends made a fursuit of a male jackalhorse character named Hossifer, loosely based on Jessroe Dwight Hossifer character[4] in Game Boys Summer Special. Since it was Cassidy's first time sewing a fursuit, the seams around the back and shoulders didn't hold together, and the foam around the eyes has yellowed. It didn't age well, but Cassidy enjoyed giving the character an exaggerated hillbilly accent that they used when playing the character as a shiba on VRChat from 2019 to 2022.
Story[edit]
Roxikat was intended to be sweet and playful, almost childlike in her innocence. In Cassidy's own work, Roxi speaks in the third person and punctuates many of her sentences with a feline 'myah' sound (mee-yeah in one syllable), which sounds like the Ryo-ohki cabbit in the Tenchi Muyo! series. From 1996-1999, Roxi appeared in the Furthest North Crew APAzine (later posted on their VCL page) in a Trekky spoof comic story called Roxikat's Myah. Here they created their closer-to-life fursona Johnnykat and had cameos of friends and other fanzine contributors.
This version of Roxikat appears in the webcomics A Doemain Of Our Own, Vinci and Arty and Misty the Mouse (as a background character). She's also had small cameos in Extinctioners and appears rarely on the Second Life virtual hangout as the character Roxikat Muse.
Cassidy has even fursuited as Roxikat at Anthrocon and at Further Confusion, participating in the Masquerade in lip-sync acts and comedy shorts off-and-on for a decade. They made their first Roxikat fursuit in 1995 for ConFurence East. They later commissioned Scribblefox for a fursuit head with a working jaw. They commissioned ArtSlave and Mirabem for a complete fursuit that made an appearance at Midwest Furfest 2008.
City of Heroes: Homecoming[edit]
Formerly an avid player of City of Heroes, and after its official sunset, Cassidy created Rocket-Cat to be a version of Roxikat that could fit into the robust lore of that MMO's community. An alternate universe of animalfolk sent Ra'Kett to Paragon City to be an ambassador of their foreign culture. Having proven herself as a war hero, she married and later had a trans tiger daughter named Mol, who became a powerful warrior named Tiger Maul. Cassidy is currently on hiatus from the game.
Adult Artwork[edit]
In adult artwork and in appropriate online adult role-play hangouts, Roxikat is overendowed, oversexed, and overeager. This hyperfur version has odd body-modifications that are inspired by Roxi's adventures on adult MUCK roleplay hangouts. Roxi first appeared online as a female, but the player later preferred to roleplay the character as a herm and later as an intersex character. The changes were inspired by the artwork of TRUMP and Doug Winger and especially the Mall stories featured on Doug's website.
This more adult version of Roxi has appeared in the comic Supermegatopia as the name Roxikat, (based on Cassidy's character on SMT Blue MUCK, Milkshake) as well as in several portfolios sold at Cassidy's personal website at roxikat.com. She also appeared in Sin Factory's Genus #22 (reprinted in Genus Greatest Hits #3), and Genus Male #5.
