MeepsKitten (real name Cameron Bess; born December 29, 1997[1]) is a furry Twitch streamer and YouTuber, best known for having visited space as a commercial astronaut aboard Blue Origin NS-19 on December 11, 2021.
As a Twitch streamer, MeepsKitten typically uses a VTuber avatar of his fursona. He is a member of Wild Abandon.
Spaceflight[edit]
MeepsKitten first announced that they were going to space in a video posted November 23, 2021.[2] Originally intended to launch on the December 9, the flight was delayed due to high winds.[3] It successfully launched on December 11. At the time of launch, MeepsKitten was the first openly furry astronaut,[4] first openly pansexual astronaut,[5] youngest American astronaut, and half of the first parent-and-child spaceflight with his father, Lane Bess.[6] While in space, MeepsKitten revealed that he had the word "Meowdy" written on the palm of his hand.[7] Included in the items that accompanied him to space were a paw from his fursuit, the pansexual pride flag, and a vinyl copy of the single "Musician" by Porter Robinson.[2]
Following some outcry that paying to briefly fly above the Kármán line didn't constitute being an astronaut,[8] MeepsKitten received the Federal Aviation Administration's Commercial Space Astronaut Wings on February 16, 2022,[9][10] three days before the FAA ended the program,[11] making him one of the last to receive the honor.
