Furp, real name Patrick Reed (8 November 1979^[1]^[2]–18 February 2009), also known as fire_pyro and Evil Dwagon, was a long-term member of furry fandom, providing operations and first-aid assistance at conventions, including Anthrocon, Califur, FurFright, Midwest FurFest and Rocket City FurMeet. He was a systems administrator and EMT, working at one point in Camp Victory in Iraq, and in Kyrgyzstan.^[3]^[4]

Furp was killed on the night of February 18, 2009 while riding his motorcycle near his work at the Twentynine Palms Marine Corps base in California. ^[5]^[6] Initial reports indicated a drunk marine was involved; there was some uncertainty later,^[7] but police reports confirmed the initial assessment.^[8] In January 2010, the driver - Jason Robert Reyna - changed his plea to guilty^[9] and was sentenced on February 26, 2010 to six months house arrest, three years probation, and lifetime loss of driving privledges.^[10]

A memorial community was set up at remember_furp, which was later noted in a story on his death by the Hi-Desert Star, a local community newspaper.^[11]

Before his death, Furp had plans on making another fursuit of his character. The materials were sold at the Midwest FurFest 2009 charity auction, along with his furry possessions.
