Furcadia Art Zone, also known as FAZ, was an online art archive created by Narnia, and devoted to all types of art, but specifically catered to artists from the Furcadia community. No genre of art was excluded, though works containing explicitly sexual subject matter are forbidden. While no genre is excluded, anthropomorphic and furry art represent a majority of the works. It also was home to a very expansive and well-ordered patch database.

History[edit]

Furcadia Art Zone was based on a similar concept to sites such as deviantART, and as so, allowed users to maintain a personal art gallery, comment on hosted artwork, interact on the community forums, and use oekaki drawing boards.

The site was founded in response to the gallery moderation policies of deviantART which upset many Furcadia artists whose portrait art was reclassified from pixel art to avatars. [citation needed]

Furcadia Art Zone (Via Internet Archive) was operated primarily by Narnia with the assistance of a volunteer group of moderators. [1] The site was generally considered to be the sister site to the Furcadia Alt Market, also owned and operated by Narnia and the same group of volunteer moderators. [2]

On August 23, 2009, the Furcadia Art Zone opened a patch archive as an alternative option to Furcadia's Official Patch Archive and to Roamheart Patch Database. [3] The archive was accessed through its own subdomain at http://archive.furcartzone.com (Via Internet Archive) or through the main website.

Initially the patch archive was both run and moderated by Narnia. A catastrophic database error resulted in the loss of all files in 2010 causing Narnia to nearly close the patch archive. A user named Calib volunteered to save the patch database. Narnia decided to let Calib run the patch database and Calib was upgraded to become the only Patch Archive Moderator [4]. He corrected all of the broken files, greatly expanded the database, and upgraded it to have better organization and navigation than before. Calib ran the patch archive with Narnia's permission until the site's closure.

Furcadia Art Zone and all subordinate sites closed in July 2018. Narnia had grown away from Furcadia and felt that nearly a decade of running the site was enough.
