Furnation.ru (Фурнейшен.ру‎, or FN for short), was the biggest online gallery in Russian furry fandom.[citation needed] It was created by Bert in 2006 specifically for Russian-speaking users. It accepted furry-themed art, music, fiction and poetry. Furnation.ru was built on principles of Web 2.0, such as AJAX and social networking. Users could collect favorites, vote, comment, track blogs and view new artwork. There was a PDA version optimized for mobile devices.[citation needed]

Furnation had their own Jabber server called FurTalk.[citation needed] It used the same accounts as the website. The contact list of each account had all friends from the original website.

Ranking System[edit]

Users were sorted by quality of their works. Ranking was managed by moderators. There were separate ladders for each type of work:

  • The starting rank was "Amateur". Their works didn't appear in the main feed. Amateurs were limited to 3 uploads per day and picture size up to 1024px*1024px.
  • The second rank was "Regular". Regular users' works appeared in the main feed, and their rank's limitation was 6 uploads per day and picture size up to 1600px*1600px.
  • The final rank was "Master". They had no filesize limitations and were even allowed to upload non-furry art.

History[edit]

The main idea of Furnation was a Russian analogue of Fur Affinity. The idea came to Stormwind one winter morning, on January 11, 2006, around the time when y!Gallery banned the publication of furry art on their site. The first design concept of Furnation was a y!Gallery-like website with similar functions.

The "Furnation.ru" domain name was registered on 29 March 2006, and work on the custom engine had begun. Some days later Bert posted an announcement on his Fur Affinity journal[3]. He also hosted the new website on its Grand Opening on 26 August 2006.

On 19 Jan 2009, Furnation.ru introduced the user ranking system.

On 24 Jan 2009, the website's team launched the FurTalk Jabber server.

Closure[edit]

The site went offline in 2021 after being unable to fund either the repairs for the hosting hardware or the hosting fees.[4]

Registration[edit]

To register, the user had to enter a secret keyword hidden in the rules. It was 'impossible' to find automatically and required thorough reading, as well as an understanding of the Russian language.[citation needed]
