Why does WikiFur need to pay taxes on the donations it receives? Why can't it gain 501(c)(7) status? (Or, for that matter, 501(c)(3) given its apparent focus on promoting the arts and literature?) Seahen 05:37, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

Because WikiFur is not an incorporated non-profit. You are effectively giving money directly to me, and it becomes part of my personal income. You are quite right that it could be otherwise, and this is something I have thought about, but at the current time it appears impractical to go to the effort and expense of incorporating and setting ourselves up as a 501(c)(3) just for the tax benefit. The only way that seems practical is associating ourselves with a larger body - and again, I'm not at all sure it is worth the hassle of having all our money go to another organization first - let alone the fact that most organizations are associated with conventions, which might then lead to significant bias (would we do a news article about a problem at Further Confusion if AAE paid our bills?). --GreenReaper(talk) 05:55, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
For what it's worth, I helped out a bit with the taxes. :-) --GreenReaper(talk) 06:34, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
