Exotic sentient
From WikiFur, the furry encyclopedia.
Exotic sentient was originally a Burned Fur replacement term used to describe a furry character.
History[edit]
The term was coined on February 16, 1999, by artist and former Burned Fur member Lemurzuli.
Terminology[edit]
Originally, it was primarily used by BF members and associates in conversations with non-furs not aware of the furry fandom (and its "fallacies", as per the BF), normally in non-furry situations, especially at professional events (especially those related to animation, cartooning/comics, etc). Other words used by the BF for the same purpose included "Sapient humaniform", "Talking animal", and/or "Fantasy creature".
The term is still in use in the fandom,[1][2] where they're also known as either just "exotics"[3] or "exotic creatures".
