Chocolate Shake, also known as ChocoShake, Choco, or simply Choc, Whit McClendon, Whit, and Mr. VHS (real name Daniel Ramirez; born September 08, 2004 in Loja, Ecuador) is an furry artist, animator, fursuiter, editor,[clarify] photographer, and YouTuber whose fursona is a siberian husky, and lives who in the capital of Ecuador, Quito.

Biography[edit]

Daniel Ramirez he used to live at his grandparents' house; besides, he also lived with his parents and his older brother. But in 2006 his family and he had to move to the capital of his country, Quito, Ecuador. Since his childhood, Whit used to draw various things of whatever, when he traveled, visited a place or met someone he portrayed them very well; he also dedicated himself to collecting LEGO (one of his favorite toys to this day). Whit comes from a Catholic family and loves following the path of God and the Christian religion.

Another of Whit's favorite things was watching Disney movies, which was one of the reasons he loves the furry fandom; He used to dedicate himself to reading as another of his favorite pastimes in school and competed in drawing contests to win various titles and get recognition discovering his true passion. Later in 2018, he decided to create an account on an open world platform called Second Life[1] where he met several users (in his opinion some good and some bad) but there was a special group of anthropomorphic avatars that on the one hand caught his attention and not elsewhere.

His career as a Youtuber[edit]

In 2019, he admired the culture of the 80s so at the end of the previous year he created a YouTube account [2] that showed experimental videos recorded on VHS, glitch and compilations, He called his channel "Whit McClendon Retro!"; according to Whit he put that name since in his family they used to call him suco because of his skin color, but he decided to put Whit only removing the e and the surname McClendon since he loved surnames that began with "Mc" so for him it was unique.

A few months later, while Whit was exploring YouTube, he used to find animation memes referring to the furry fandom[3] (in this he decided to be a stopmotion animator) and when he consulted the subject of the fandom he found it somewhat interesting since he used to watch Furry Dance Competitions on the platform[4], shortly after he met famous furries on the internet such as Majira Strawberry, Telephone or Sherbert Shenanigans and he also met someone special for him "Candy Paws" her fursona is a pink fennec fox combined with a dragon[5], she was also dedicated to her YouTube channel.

Fandom Involvement[edit]

Whit joined to the furry fandom since 2019, knowing a little about the subject thanks to Candy Paws and other of her friends, he decided to be part of the group. On his YouTube channel he created content regarding the fandom including his experimental videos and retro style. With the passing of time he dedicated himself to digitally drawing more anthropomorphic animals than human beings, although in the beginning he used to draw traditionally. His drawings are usually uploaded by Furaffinity[6] and DeviantArt, followed by other social networks which offer commissions[7].

Fursonas[edit]

When Whit explored Second Life, he used to use the avatar of a rabbit with black fur, blue tattoos and white hair, which he called "Mr. Nejo" the creator himself said it was a nickname given to him by a youtuber named DrossRotzank. About 2 years later, Whit confessed to everyone that he had a secret fursona before ChocoShake via Twitter and Facebook[9].

The creator himself says that at first he had thought that ChocoShake would be a golden retriever, a beagle or even a border collie, but he decided that his fursona would be a Siberian husky, since during his childhood he had become fond of a neighbor's husky puppy, this one was called "Neo" and something that would have impressed Whit about this dog is that it had Heterochromia or different colored eyes (which is one of the most important physical characteristics in his fursona) and he believed that it could be a wolf dog.

ChocoShake's fursona is a Siberian husky, with black and white fur and some blue lines; likewise with his tail. His hair is styled curly and is white in color, with some lines painted in purple, blue, cyan, and aqua. He has different colored eyes (on the right side cyan and on the left side aqua), apart from his paws they are the same colors as his hair[8]. The attitude of his fursona was similar to Puppycorn, a character from the Unikitty series[10], but now he mentions that the attitude is similar to The Little Prince (one of Whit's favorite childhood books)[11] and Charlie Bucket from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory[12]. He also has very retro and vintage tastes from the 80s, 90s and 2000s.

In 2021, Whit made a special version of his fursona, he had a great vision to create superhero comics, so he created his first furry superhero which he called Tornado Boy. Later, he would dedicate himself to creating a comic for his hero based on things you would say that used to happen to him in his childhood even today[13].

Fursuits[edit]

  • Fursuit 1.0 (Whit McClendon) - In the first design of his fursuit, Whit downloaded from the internet a 3D model of his fursuit head, in this case it was a husky, this was based on geometric art to build it, using cardboard[14]. He hand-painted the head himself, before it had no eyes and the jaw was open, apart from that it still had no hair until he made it using white wool and coloring with a little marker. For the eyes, he used foam and fabric from ecological bags, He painted them using mixed oil paint. The jaw was joined with the same cardboard as the head.

In the case of the bodysuit, he used to wear a black tank top and black jeans including his homemade tail and legs. On Halloween 2020, He had gone for the first time with his fursuit to a shopping center in his town.

  • Fursuit 2.0 - In this version the head was still the same, but the bodysuit had had several changes to assimilate his fursona, he got a panda kigurumi, modified it and added the same details to his previous fursuit and in this one he already had feet paws and a red scarf to complement.

During 2021, he used his fursuit to record several of his videos on youtube and take some pictures as a hobby, especially including cosplays. He once recorded himself teaching a tutorial on how to make experimental videos in 5 steps[15], which he recorded talking with his fursuit head for almost 8 minutes. He also used to spend his time on Omegle while chatting with other furries (a small part famous) he used his fursuit head to see the impression of people while they talked about what they usually do. On Halloween 2021, he had been dressed in this fursuit to several shopping centers in his city.

  • Fursuit 3.0 - His third version has modified the hair, He added more white wool and to shape it He used white cotton and a little paint to reference the dyed hair lines that his fursona has. Another thing that he also did was advance in cosplays since as he was doing his comic about Tornado, he decided to recreate the superhero's costume; This one used his old black tank top, black lycra pants, blue swim shorts, white gloves and boots, for the cape he used an old white sheet and made it to his size including a white belt with the symbol of a black paw. And finally he recreated the most representative objects of him such as the blue mask and his famous TB emblem representing the name of Tornado Boy. In 2022, he used it to take several photos of his cosplay and made a found tape of Tornado Boy with various fighting and defense moves, and with a VHS aesthetic style and other bits[16].

Extra accessories[edit]

One of the accessories that he keeps very fondly is an amigurumi stuffed animal of himself made by his grandmother, since Whit loves this kind of stuffed animal that is hand-knitted. But since 2019 he made his fursona, his grandmother helped him by weaving an amigurumi of his fursona, which is very popular and loved.

Personal Life[edit]

Whit (Choco Shake)'s biggest hobby is drawing and here are 2 examples from 2020 and 2021. Art by Whit McClendon
Avatar in Second Life of the ChocoShake fursona[17].

Whit is dedicated to drawing (especially chibi and cartoon styles), recording VHS-style videos for his YouTube channel, making stopmotion animations with LEGO[18]. He also spends time reading, listen to 80s, 90s or 2000s, dancing and interacting with other people through Second Life or any social media, he is interested in traveling and exploring either inside or outside his country. Whit is interested in following his path as a Catholic and doing what the Lord tells him[19]. He spends most of his time with his friends and other furries known to the community.

Second Life[edit]

About use on the platform, before he used to use a human avatar type "Kuroo" belonging to the game, a month later he realized the theme of furry fandom in the game and Whit found a rabbit avatar in the same store he got the torso and everything else of his human avatar. This is when he starts to use his first fursona (secret) type "kemono", the torso and the rabbit parts like the head, arms and legs he got with the help of one of his first furry friends in SL. In 2020, during the pandemic he now wanted to create his new fursona which was ChocoShake, for this he got a husky head, tail, legs, hands and the main thing his characteristic colored hair; and he added them in the same torso that he used for the rabbit avi. While interacting with other users who were furries and semi-furries, he would have become friends with a rabbit named "Allyce" (who are currently best friends) and even with the youtuber DrossRotzank since he knew that he was a bit furry for using several avatars of that theme, among others he knows until today, including blogers, artists, content creators (SL marketplace), etc.
