Category talk:Dinosaur characters

While some poking through Google results (as I don't have any recent, relevant publications on my shelves, and I wasn't planning a visit to the library today) reveals some debate or confusion, my understanding is that dinosaurs are reptiles, and the Natural History Museum states that they are "reptiles that evolved an upright gait".

Furthermore, even if there is some debate, species categories (which character categories follow the system of) here on WikiFur lean more towards lay defintions; otherwise we could hardly categorise fictional species as Category:Feline species or what have you. -- Sine 20:34, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

I understand, and I'm open to flexibility, but I'm not sure it's helpful to class dinos as reptiles. If I was looking for dinos, I wouldn't think to look at reptiles, but maybe that's just me.

As far as evolution goes; yes, dinos are basically a reptile that diversified into a whole group of animals, but to take it to extremes, mammals and birds could also be classed as reptiles in that way, so it depends how far you want to go. Hawthorn 11:57, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
