Breath of Fire is a video game franchise developed and published by Capcom. It consists of five console games released between 1993 and 2002, with several Japan-only spinoff phone games released afterward. Outside of some character cameos, the continuity is ambiguous and each game is a self-contained story with similar main characters.

Plot[edit]

Each game stars a version of Ryu, a blue-haired young man with the latent power to shapeshift into a dragon. He's usually an amnesiac or orphan on a journey of self-discovery. He gathers a party of anthropomorphic characters that always includes a winged woman named Nina from the kingdom of Wyndia and a cat-person from the Woren clan. Together, they will seal a long dormant evil entity to save the world from destruction.

Gameplay[edit]

The game follows traditional Japanese RPG conventions with explorable worlds and turn-based battles.

Setting[edit]

In the world of Breath of Fire, everybody is technically a human with some being in "clans". These clans have animalistic traits of varying intensity, from kemonomimi up to full traditional anthro. These genetic traits are very weak and children of mixed parentage will usually be "clanless", making them regular humans with no animalistic traits.
