Bowser (Japanese クッパ, sometimes known as King Koopa) is a mysterious creature and the main antagonist of Nintendo's Mario franchise whose most notable feature is their exceptionally many canines. He is a large, fire-breathing member of the anthropomorphic turtle-like species known as the Koopas. He leads the Koopa Troop and has been the archenemy of Mario since his debut in Super Mario Bros. His main goal is to defeat the Mario Bros. in order to kidnap Princess Peach and take over the Mushroom Kingdom..

Since his debut, Bowser has appeared in almost every Mario franchise game, including spin-offs such as Mario Party, Mario Sports, and Mario Kart where he's usually played as either a playable character or an antagonist. Bowser is voiced by Kenny James. He also appeared in Nintendo's crossover fighting game series Super Smash Bros.. There were times where Bowser has major playable appearances such as Super Mario RPG, Super Paper Mario, and Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story.

Bowser has become one of the most iconic and easily recognizable video game antagonists of all time due to the success of the Mario franchise. He frequently appears in lists for greatest video game antagonists with his roles in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Storyand Super Mario Galaxy have been met with highly positive reception. He garnered a large fanbase due to his complex character design, his loud, boisterous personality, and the fatherly side for his son, Bowser Junior. His popularity encouraged fans to create a holiday for him known as Bowser Day on August 4th.[1]
