Anatomy is a term that refers to the overall layout or design of the physical frame of a living thing. The study of anatomy involves an in-depth knowledge of the physiognomy or nomenclature of every part of the body. A closely related field of study, physiology, has to do with the functionality of parts and how they work together. The term anatomy (physiology is often used interchangeably) is sometimes used colloquially to refer specifically to the sexual anatomy, that is, the shape and arrangement of primary sexual characteristics of the human body (or, by extension, animal and fictional humanoid counterparts).
