An adoptable is a character design created by an artist to be sold. Most adoptables require some form of payment specified by the artist.

Types[edit]

An OTA is an "Offer to Adopt" and usually consists of one or more adoptables for participants to claim.

A DTA stands for "Draw to Adopt" and is a type of competition in which the host makes a certain amount of characters and then offers to give them individually to the contest winners. Competitors must draw the character or characters they would like to adopt. Once the contest closes, the host judges the entries and decides who wins each character. DTAs are commonly hosted on websites like DeviantArt and Toyhou.se, but there is also a growing amount of DTAs on the website Scratch, due to its remix-project feature.
