Biography
Baldwin was born in Asunción, Paraguay in 1983.[1] When he was 15, he taught himself 3D animation and went on to work for Hypermedia, a Paraguayan multimedia magazine, first creating animated intros for CDs that were distributed with the magazine. The company grew larger and evolved into Chena Ventures Inc., where Baldwin specialized in search engine optimization (SEO), web design and web architecture and went on to design some of the top Hispanic websites at the time.[1]
In 2002, at the age of 19, he moved to the United States to study at the Columbus College of Art and Design in Ohio, where he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA). He went on to study at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) to receive his Master of Fine Arts (MFA).[6] During his time at UCLA he created animated shorts Sebastian's Voodoo, The Windmill Farmer and Papiroflexia which received over 100 awards and honors.[6]
He now lives in Los Angeles, California with his husband and works for Walt Disney Animation Studios. He has notably worked on films such as Zootopia, Encanto, Moana, and Frozen.[2]
Writing
In an interview by J.F.R. Coates at the Furry Writer's Guild in 2023, Joaquín Baldwin described his writing process as in between the strategies of a plotter and a pantser.[5]
| I outline key events I want to get to (including the ending), so I know what I’m telling is something that will go somewhere important, and then I write linearly from start to finish trying to reach those moments. |
He also described some authors and works which influenced the Noss Saga, such as J.R.R. Tolkien., Stephen King, N.K. Jemisin and their respective works. [5]
