==Description==
Jazz Jackrabbit is a 3'1", 90-pound [[anthropomorphic]] green [[rabbit]]. Strictly speaking, his name implies that he is a [[hare]], but "hare" and "rabbit" are used interchangeably in the game. He comes from the planet Carrotus, and is usually referred to as Jazz. He also has a very wacky red younger brother, [[Spaz Jackrabbit|Spaz]], and a lovely yellow athletic sister, [[Lori Jackrabbit|Lori]]. Together, they face the evil forces of [[Devan Shell]], a nerdy, but vengefully sinister mad scientist [[turtle]]. Other than that, Jazz is in love with, and eventually marries the lovely [[Princess Eva Earlong]].

The first Jazz Jackrabbit game was released in 1994. The shareware edition was extremely popular and the game was named Arcade Game of the Year by [[Wikipedia:PC Format|PC Format]].

A sequel was released in 1998. Despite moderate success in Europe, it was the first game [[Wikipedia:Gathering of Developers|Gathering of Developers]], the U.S. publishers, ever lost money on.

Jazz Jackrabbit reached the [[Wikipedia:Gameboy Advance|Gameboy Advance]] in 2003. It was controversial among fans, owing to the changes made to the franchise.

''Jazz Jackrabbit 3D'' was an abortive project by [[Wikipedia:World Tree Games|World Tree Games]]. The game was cancelled in 2000 when [[Wikipedia:Epic Games|Epic Games]] failed to find a publisher. The game's plot had Jazz entering Devan's dimensional machine (a modified version of the time machine used in ''Jazz 2'') into a three-dimensional Carrotus to save his children and remove any chaos Devan brought along the way.

Jazz, Eva, and Devan made a cameo in ''[[Wikipedia:One Must Fall|One Must Fall]]: 2097'', also by Epic, in single-player tournament mode. Each remote-piloted a fighting mech that was suited to their individual personalities. This was in keeping with the Epic Megagames inter-universe cameo appearance theme also seen in [[Wikipedia:Tyrian (game)|Tyrian]], which referred to their previous starship-piloting game ''[[Wikipedia:Solar Winds|Solar Winds]]'', as well as a reference to ''OMF:2097''.

Epic Games went on to the creation of Gears Of War in 2006 and Unreal Tournament 3 in 2007.

Jazz Jackrabbit has also appeared in a number of fan-made games.
