In August of 2005, [[FurAffinity]] was the target of a prolonged hacking attempt against its servers. The intruders took over administrator accounts, used them to post anti-semitic messages in the administration message space (thus putting these messages on the top of every page of FA), and then taunted the community by posting passwords to the FurAffinity [[LiveJournal]]. Later, a complete list of users and their passwords was posted on Encyclopædia Dramatica; it has since been deleted.<br />

The website includes mostly images were are not free--meaning copyrighted images where the owner did not release rights. The images may count for fair use because it is a parody and satire site. Sometimes the unfree images are purely for people's user pages, which does not count for fair use. Because the website is in the united states, they also violate the communications decency act (which may be ruled unconstitutional at this time) and a recent law requiring websites to have proven through meeting their naked models firsthand that the models are in fact over 18 (this law shut a number of pornographic websites down). The website however will not allow photos of people under the age of 18.<br />

The sites images range from ordinary (like a girl or a cat), to humorous (like pictures poking fun at George W. Bush), to insulting, to shock images (such as from shock sites).<br />

The most common criticism of Encylopædia Dramatica, other than it being filled being with falsehoods, is that there is little editorial control; the primary forms of control are requiring registration to edit and only allowing administrators to edit articles in certain namespaces. Additionally, some admins will occasionally ban users for being "unfunny".<br />

The text of Encyclopædia Dramatica, unlike most wikis, is not licensed; copyright violations are common, and even encouraged. ED has threatened lawsuits with and has sent [[Wikipedia:Digital Millennium Copyright Act|DMCA]] takedown notices to Uncyclopedia and Wikipedia.<br />
