J.J. Grandville was the better-known pseudonym of Jean Ignace Isidore Gérard, a nineteenth-century French caricaturist whose work includes scenes of anthropomorphic animals.

Born September 13, 1803, in Nancy, France, Grandville learnt to drawn from his father, a painter of miniatures. At age 21, he travelled to Paris and published collections of lithographs.

The work which launched Grandville to fame was the 1828-29 work Les Métamorphoses du jour (Today's Metamorphosis), which featured seventy-two images of various animals in human situations. The public's attention was caught by the skill with which he imparted human emotions to the animals' faces.

Grandville's success lead to steady work contributing artwork to various periodicals, and supplying illustrations to editions of Don Quixote, Gulliver's Travels, and Robinson Crusoe. He also continued to publish collections of lithographs, including
Les Fleurs Animées (Animated Flowers) (images of anthropomorphic flowers(!)), and Scènes de la Vie Privée et Publique des Animaux (Scenes of the Private and Public Lives of Animals) which contained further anthropomorphic animals.

In 1847, Grandville saw one of his children choke to death on a piece of bread beside him, and never recovered from the shock. He was admitted to the lunatic asylum in Vanves, where he died on March 17 of that year.

Legacy
Grandville has sometimes been referred to as "a precursor of the surrealists", and his pre-furry fandom anthro art is believed to have inspired Sir John Tenniel's illustrations in the publication of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

In 2006, Magic Realist Press released a deck of tarot card incorporating Grandville's images of anthropomorphic animals.

Bryan Talbot cited Grandville's work as an influence in his own work for Grandville.
Over The Hedge is an American comic strip by writer Michael Fry and Artist T. Lewis.

The strip first appeared in 1995. Four book collections have been published. They are, in order, Over The Hedge, Over The Hedge 2, Knights Of The Picnic Table, and Stuffed Animals. A film was released in 2006.

The strips are not afraid to tackle difficult subject matter. Everything from celebrity worship to stem cell research has appeared. In 1998, a series of strips had the characters considering the origin of humanity and the likelihood of reincarnation.

The strip were awarded the Religious Communicators Council’s 1998 Wilbur Award for "excellence in the communication of religious issues, values and themes."

Premise
The strip follows the lives of RJ, a raccoon; and Verne, a turtle. RJ has a sort of Zen spontaneity and Verne is a reserved worrywart that the strip hinted talks like Garry Shandling. Verne has a secret enjoyment of the music of John Tesh--RJ once baited him with his newest CD, "More Music To Eat Mayonnaise By".

The division is sharper when the characters' motivating behaviors are revealed. RJ is a slacker -- he doesn't feel the need to chase down anything, especially knowledge. When told plenty happens in the world before he wakes up, he pulled out a paddleball and walked away saying, "Not to me." Anything that doesn't come simply and naturally to him is deemed not worth the effort. He once theorized that the stars and the night sky were actually a giant piece of construction paper with holes in it and lit up by a lightbulb the size of Texas (and a good portion of Louisiana). He is balanced by Verne and his continual quest for personal advancement and fulfillment. In fact, in one strip, the characters explored the fact that they were a bit unhappy with themselves and wished they could be more like the other. The two of them support each other, like two halves of the same brain, with RJ dealing with immediate situations (distracting guard dogs around a house) and Verne handling things that require more planning and detail.

Most of the forest they live in has been stripped down to make a housing division called El Rancho Camelot. However, they, along with the other animals in the forest, aren't interested in retaking the land. They very much enjoy human culture. From raiding garbage cans for food and rating the preservatives used to staking out hot tubs, they recognize this isn't the best or healthiest way to live, but they can't give it up. RJ, in fact, has a near pathological addiction to Twinkies, such as his 1947 Twinkie that is "still soft" and "in mint condition". Sometimes, more extreme measures are employed, such as flyfishing steaks off a grill or distracting a family while other animals use a blowtorch to cut through a wall and get to the fridge.

Part of the strip consists of Verne being RJ's metaphorical punching bag. RJ is shameless in his disrespect of Verne, setting him up for pranks and humiliations as Verne fumes futilely at the treatment. RJ regards himself as pretty much unmockable, and Verne is incapable of proving otherwise.

RJ and Verne also have an artistic bent, which the creators use to much comedic effect. Verne is deeply involved in the arts. At times, he uses his knowledge to shamelessly exploit the artistic establishment -- he created a sculpture called "Lichen On A Stump" that was, in fact, a lichen on a stump, for which he got a $15,000 grant from the Ford Foundation. Other times, he creates modern art and performances pieces that he is never happy with, such as turning a lawn sprinkler system into a water ballet -- "It doesn't transcend." While Verne's criticism decries classic forms, RJ shows a more traditional grounding that eschews stuffiness. But when RJ creates art, it's more simplified, done just for fun. He dreads Verne coming around at times like these -- "No! No critiques! Please just let us create in ignorance!"

Another running gag that surfaces in the strip is that RJ and Verne are avid golfers, often pushing the interpretations of the rules as far as they can. They have played in the middle of a snowstorm (when Verne iced up in the middle of his swing, RJ pointed out, "You're pausing at the top of your swing again"), purchased a driver with a head the size of a basketball for extra distance off the tee (the "Obese Olga" made the ball achieve escape velocity and hit a UFO with aliens watching "Star Trek: The Next Generation"), expanded the cup with a backhoe so RJ could make par, and even designed their own golf course, complete with acid pits, razor wire, quicksand, a dragon, a mamba nest, and "giant, blood-sucking werepoodles on #14".

Characters
In addition to RJ and Verne, the strip includes Hammy the squirrel. Hammy didn't appear when the strip first started. He was referenced in a series as being run over by a minivan under a different name ("That Hammy...always trying to broaden himself."), and he was buried in a pizza box. He started appearing and his name eventually became Sammy. One day, Sammy met his mirror image self named Hammy and they switched places, and the squirrel is now Hammy.

Hammy is a edgy little guy who isn't completely aware of his surroundings, expressing shock when he discovered that thing he sort of knew was behind him was a tail (he was even more impressed when he discovered he had thumbs). He's not exactly a star of the strip, but he rounds out the central duo very well, despite how much he annoys Verne ("'Let's get a squirrel,' you said, 'The readers love squirrels'"), becoming sort of the Third Stooge.

Other characters include Luby the raccoon and Velma the turtle, the sort of objects of RJ and Verne's affections, even though they don't think very much of the "Boys In The Wood." Luby, apparently, still dates RJ occasionally, even though he makes her question her whole dating life. In the strip from December 27, 2007, Luby explains she decided to give dating another try. RJ took her to watch an old couple struggle to program their Tivo ("They're so cute when they can't understand customer service reps in India," RJ opines), then took her to a dumpster where he overate Maraschino cherries, barfed, and passed out. She is now questioning the wisdom of dating ANYONE, not just RJ.

Speaking of dating, the characters' love lives have fluctuated quite a bit. Initially, Velma dated RJ and Luby dated Verne, but soon the species paired off. A strip where the central trio catches up on where the characters are now has Verne saying of Luby and Velma, "They live in San Francisco. We lost them to the other team." Hammy responds, "The Orioles?" In the strip's early days, RJ was in love with Dottie, a purebred poodle of questionable intelligence (she once tripped on her own ears and knocked herself unconscious). Despite RJ's continuous efforts to woo her, she never acknowledged him as anything other than yard pest, and once used his tail as a chew toy before trying to bury it.

For a short time in 2007, Verne had been dating Sheila the Snail. Their bond resulted in a burst of self-confidence that had RJ leading the others into trying to "deprogram" Verne in a failed effort to get their personality measuring stick and resident punching bag back. It failed, Verne and Sheila stayed together for a while. That all changed when Sheila brought Verne to meet her parents. Mom had a relative that had been eaten by a turtle and both parents put Verne through the wringer. Verne panicked, trying to reassure them that he would never eat anything as slimy and disgusting as a snail. Sheila immediately took offense and sent Verne packing on the spot. Any hope of reconciliation was gone a couple of days later when Sheila was seen with another snail. Verne, in his loneliness, latched onto and fell in love with a Marilyn Monroe blow-up doll that RJ gave to him to humiliate him more. When the bond became too strong, RJ brought in Dr. Phil to snap Verne out of it -- Dr. Phil called RJ his "Vegas buddy" for rescuing him from a crush of rabid autograph seekers. At present, Verne is very much unattached.

A recent addition to the strip is a pit bull puppy named Steve. Steve is not anthropomorphic, but can bend the rules as needed. Steve's typical behavior is to sit around, wagging his tail and smiling, waiting for someone to lick. RJ and Verne found him in the forest one day, and due to the stereotype of pit bulls as killing machines, they promptly rocketed up the nearest tree and examined themselves to see if they were still alive ("Is my head still on? I can't tell"). After observing the puppy wasn't moving a muscle other than to wag his tail, Verne looked up "pit bull" on his iPhone and they figured they could trust him. That, and the fact that Hammy came along and decided to pull the "lion tamer's head in mouth" stunt ("I'm fine, but he could use a breath mint."). RJ and Verne are Steve's keepers -- they refuse to let any humans have him for fear that the pit bull's reputation will cause them to put Steve to sleep. He shows up occasionally, recently to help RJ make a dangerous stunt video for YouTube ("But Steve wouldn't hurt a fly." "I know that. You know that. But the millions watching subway surfing videos don't."). Hammy also taught him to do the rumble dance from West Side Story.

Another character who pops up occasionally is The Tree That Knows Stuff, a sentient tree that the characters seek information and advice from. He occasionally has to deal with RJ trying to muscle in on his job.

Another incidental character is Fred The Wood Tick, who appears as only a dot and has to be identified when he first appears with an arrow explaining what he is.

One character who was fairly prominent when the series first started was Plushie, Verne's nephew.

The animals can talk with humans, but only if they are kids, elderly, or insane. An attempt by Verne to lead the other animals around the neighborhood Christmas caroling resulted in every armament (guns, missiles, and Wrist Rockets) being trained on them. The most frequent human they have contact with is Clara, a toddler who goes to Perky Jerks Daycare Center. Her parents are Nate and Noreen.

The rule about what humans they can converse with is disregarded at times when it suits the joke. Dr. Phil has been shown talking to and understanding the cast. Recently, Barak Obama was depicted in the strip. RJ called in a favor -- "'Audacity Of Hope.' Who came up with that...Oh, that's right! I did!"

The Silverwing book series by Kenneth Oppel featuring the adventures of Shade, a young bat.

Synopsis
When Shade Silverwing breaks an age-old law, looking at the sun, the owls burn down his beloved Tree Haven. They go to Hibernaculum where they rest for the winter. Along the way, he meets Marina Brightwing who helps him throughout the series. They also meet other characters like Goth and Throbb, bats who are part of the Vampyrum Spectrum, Zephyr, a bat that can see past, present and future, and Scirocco, a bat who wants to be Human.

Locations
Tree Haven
A place where newborn bats are raised by their mothers during the spring and summer. The tree haven in Silverwing is burned to the ground by owls. Later on, a new tree is hollowed out, and becomes the new Tree Haven. This is where Griffin lives, and the creation of it can be read about at the end of Sunwing

Stone Hold
A place where the male bats roost during the spring and summer.

Hibernaculum
A place behind a waterfall where Shade's colony goes to hibernate during the winter.

Jungle
A rain forest, most likely in Central America. Home to the Vampyrum Spectrum bats and the Pyramid. It's also hosts creatures including large insects, southern owls and other exotic things that northern bats haven't seen.

Statue Haven
A statue of Jesus Christ that overlooks Rio de Janeiro. The survivors of the explosions from the metal disks use this as a safe haven from the Vampyrum.

The Pyramid
Home to the royal order of Vampyrum, Goth's home. It's filled with millions of Vampyrum. It was destroyed when Voxzaco dropped an explosive on it, killing all the Vampyrum. Shade's family and friends escaped, although some did not, and Shade got half of his fur burnt off.

Underworld
A place created by Cama Zotz for his Vampyrum Spectrum. It is beneath the earth and is mostly made up of pictures that occur in bats' minds as a result of conflicting sonal vibration, giving the appearance of images. All bats that die end up there. It is possible, but rare, for a living thing to enter the Underworld; where the denizens will notice a "glow" about them.

At the place where Zotz fought and killed his counterpart Nocturna, a great Tree made seemingly of fire grows. Entering it, the bats become as Nocturna has become; an observing intelligence in the natural world.

History
Great war
The great war between the birds and the beasts happened approximately 65 million years before the story. The bats, seeing themselves as being both, but neither, refrained from fighting. At the end of the war, the two warring factions banished the bats. They could not see the sun again because they refrained.

War to bring back the sun
A war between the owls and the bats fought 15 years before the Silverwing book. The bats lost. Later, Shade Silverwing and Owl Prince Orestes called for a truce, under which bats were given freedom to move under sunlight for as long as they caused no trouble.

Tonoma
The war that divided all creatures from each other.
The Island of Dr. Moreau: A Possibility, an allegorical science fiction novel by H. G. Wells, first published by Heinemann in April 1896, is the earliest novel with intelligent animal characters written for an adult readership. It presents the possibilities of the biological sciences to improve animals to a human level, at the same time that it warns against the dangers, both physical and moral, of reckless and cruel vivisection.

The novel is presented as the narrative of Edward Prendick, an Englishman whose ship sinks in the Pacific in 1887. He is rescued by a schooner taking supplies including caged animals, in the care of a man named Montgomery who has a strangely subhuman servant, to an unnamed island. There Prendick meets Montgomery's employer, a biologist named Moreau who has even stranger servants.

{{q|The white-haired man I found was still regarding me steadfastly, but with an expression, as I now fancied, of some perplexity. When my eyes met his, he looked down at the staghound that sat between his knees. He was a powerfully-built man, as I have said, with a fine forehead and rather heavy features; but his eyes had that odd drooping of the skin above the lids which often comes with advancing years, and the fall of his heavy mouth at the corners gave him an expression of pugnacious resolution. He talked to Montgomery in a tone too low for me to hear.

From him my eyes travelled to his three men; and a strange crew they were. I saw only their faces, yet there was something in their faces-I knew not what-that gave me a queer spasm of disgust. I looked steadily at them, and the impression did not pass, though I failed to see what had occasioned it. They seemed to me then to be brown men; but their limbs were oddly swathed in some thin, dirty, white stuff down even to the fingers and feet: I have never seen men so wrapped up before, and women so only in the East. They wore turbans too, and thereunder peered out their elfin faces at me,-faces with protruding lower-jaws and bright eyes. They had lank black hair, almost like horsehair, and seemed as they sat to exceed in stature any race of men I have seen. The white-haired man, who I knew was a good six feet in height, sat a head below any one of the three. I found afterwards that really none were taller than myself; but their bodies were abnormally long, and the thigh-part of the leg short and curiously twisted. At any rate, they were an amazingly ugly gang, and over the heads of them under the forward lug peered the black face of the man whose eyes were luminous in the dark. As I stared at them, they met my gaze; and then first one and then another turned away from my direct stare, and looked at me in an odd, furtive manner.}}

Prendick remembers sensational newspaper accounts of how Moreau was driven out of England after exposure of his vivisection experiments. He and Montgomery have continued and carried them further on the island, turning animals into intelligent "Beast Folk" (Prendick identifies Swine Men, Ape Men, Sloth Men, Leopard Men and many others, as well as animal combinations such as a wolf-bear) which he tries to control through a series of semi-religious "Laws" with a Beast-man called the "Sayer of the Law," a sort of high priest, and himself as a divinity ruling through his laboratory, known as the "House of Pain":

The forced evolution of the animals into humans is only temporary; the jungles of the island are full of partly-devolved Beast Folk that try to maintain their humanity. Eventually the carnivores among the Beast People revert to killing and eating meat ('tasting blood'). Once the Law is broken, all of the Beast Folk turn upon Moreau and Montgomery while Prendick escapes back out to sea. An exploration of the island by British sailors a few years later reveals only a few feral animals.

One of the enduring images from the novel is of Moreau and Montgomery maintaining their authority among the semi-wild Beast People with heavy whips. This was emphasized in the first motion picture adaptation of the novel, as The Island of Lost Souls in 1933, which featured Charles Laughton portraying Moreau as a whip-cracking sadist less interested in science than in torturing animals. A second movie, as The Island of Dr. Moreau in 1977, was so different that its script was novelized separately by Joseph Silva(Ron Goulart). This version advances the year to 1914, replaces Prendick with Andrew Braddock, and renames the Beast Folk as humanimals. Burt Lancaster played Dr. Paul Moreau closer to the intellectual but amoral scientist of Wells' novel, but has him experimenting on Braddock to turn him into a humanimal. A third movie adaptation, in 1996 with Marlon Brando playing the doctor as a grotesque mad scientist, updates the plot with DNA injections replacing vivisection.

The Island of Dr. Moreau has served as an inspiration to many works of fiction, especially in science fiction where several authors have written unauthorized pastiches or sequels such as Moreau's Other Island, by Brian W. Aldiss (1980), and Dr. Franklin's Island, by Ann Halam (2001), or the novels of S. Andrew Swann who calls his anthropomorphic characters "moreaus" as homage. In many modern roleplaying games, such as d20 Modern, moreaus are used again to name species of genetically engineered anthro beasts.
The Secret of NIMH 2: Timmy to the Rescue is a 1998 animated direct-to-video film produced by MGM Studios. It's a sequel to the popular 1982 film The Secret of NIMH. The original film was produced by Don Bluth, but the sequel was made without his help. The film is unrelated to Racso and the Rats of NIMH, a sequel to the book Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH.

The Secret of NIMH 2: Timmy to the Rescue is not well loved by NIMH fans. In fact, the film is deemed to be the worst animated sequel of all time and "every NIMH fan's worst nightmare".

Plot
The very beginning of the film starts off with a prologue sequence showing half-color/half-black and white footage from the original first movie being not-so-wisely narrated by Peter MacNicol, telling of a prophecy that Nicodemus made before he died (which is never actually shown in the first movie). The prophecy is that NIMH will come and threaten the rats again in Thorn Valley, and a son of Jonathan Brisby would be chosen to save them.

The film then cuts to Timothy Brisby (the youngest son of Mrs. Brisby) racing his brother, Martin who is the oldest brother, on walnut shells being pulled by rabbits. Timothy (Timmy) accidentally slips off his shell on a tight turn and gets lost. He decides to take a shortcut through the woods back home, only to unintentionally run into a cage. Two scientists from a laboratory called NIMH hear the alarm going off from the cage and hurry to investigate.

Martin hears Timmy cry out for help and hurries to free him from the cage before the scientists notice them. When safely hidden, Timothy believes that he ruined their last day together, before Timmy goes to Thorn Valley to fulfill his prophecy as the chosen child of Jonathan Brisby. It is revealed that Martin is just jealous of Timmy being the chosen child, saying that he should have been chosen since he was stronger and braver. To make Timmy feel better, Martin gives him a slingshot and tries to teach him how to use it. It doesn't go well. Timothy winds up shooting Jeremy (the crow from the first film and voiced by Dom DeLuise) down into a pond.

When Timmy gets ready to leave for Thorn Valley, Mrs. Brisby, now slightly aged (because of possibly the lack of the , tells him to listen to his teachers, Justin and Mr. Ages from the first film. Martin then tells Jeremy the directions to Thorn Valley, which are "South by south by south". Jeremy then flies off to Thorn Valley, with Timmy riding on his back. This is where we encounter the first musical sequence of the film, where Jeremy sings about what a joy Thorn Valley is.

When they arrive there, every mouse and rat greets Timmy like he's royalty. Justin and Mr. Ages then proceed to teach him about Thorn Valley and how he has to fulfill his prophecy. While Timmy grows up into a teenager, he sings about how he'll never equal his father's fame. The song sequence ends with a teenage Timmy Brisby voiced by Ralph Macchio from the "Karate Kid". Justin and some other rats then take Timmy out scavaging. Brutus (the rat from the first film) gives Timmy a whistle and tells him to blow it if he spots the guard dog, Killer. Timmy feels discouraged and tosses the whistle on the ground. He hears a sound from one of the garbage cans and goes to investigate, only to wind up stepping on the whistle by mistake.

It turns out that the noise was another mouse named Jenny McBride. Timmy is instantly smitten by her, but their greetings are cut short as Killer the guard dog begins chasing them. They all manage to escape with Jenny's help, who can apparently read (which is actually one of the characteristics of a rat from NIMH).

Later back at Thorn Valley, Timmy is punished for leaving his post. Timmy then tells Mr. Ages and Justin that Jenny can read. Jenny then tells them that her parents are trapped at NIMH and that something awful is going to happen on the full moon. She also tells them that she was sent to find them for help. Mr. Ages says they can't help them, believing it would be to great a risk of man finding out about Thorn Valley.

In frustration, Jenny and Timmy both escape in a hot air balloon to NIMH, but a hawk pops the balloon and they fall to the ground, unhurt. They then proceed to find the Great Owl, a character from the first film. It turns out that Jeremy the crow is actually posing as the Great Owl to fool the woodland animals out of giving him money, with the help of a con artist caterpillar named Cecil. After accidentally blowing his cover and causing a riot to the animals, Jeremy then flies the two mice to NIMH where they find two of the rats from Thorn Valley, Justin and Brutus. They also learn that Dr. Valentine, the head scientist, has made Martin insane. After being made insane, Martin took over the lab and brainwashed Dr. Valentine with a device similar to the one Valentine used on him and made him think he was a dog. Martin plans to use an army of lab rats riding a flock of ravens to take over Thorn Valley.

He asks Timmy to join him, but he refuses and is locked in a cage as Martin drags Jenny away to make her his queen. Timmy escapes with the help of Cecil and they go to free Jenny. Together, they knock out Martin and Timmy tricks Martin's army of ravens and rats to fly in the wrong direction. Timmy and Jenny then leave to find the others, only to find once everyone is free that NIMH is on fire. The survivors (Timmy, Jenny, and her parents) flee. Timmy goes back to save Martin. Before he leaves, Jenny tells him she loves him and he tells her the same. After being attacked by the crazy cats once again, Timmy sends them down an elevator shaft and finally finds Martin. Timmy and Martin are able to escape through the lab's skylight, with some help from Jeremy. Jeremy takes the survivors to safety. The mice return to Thorn Valley, Martin returns to normal and Timmy is now a hero. How Martin turned normal is left out of the film, but the device that turned Martin crazy could have been temporary and since Martin was shown doing it on himself several times this could be the reason. A likeness of Timmy is added to the statue of Jonathan as the people of Thorn Valley cheer.

Reception
The sequel is universally hated by fans of the first film, who claimed that it lacked Don Bluth's dark mood and instead replaced with cheesy musical numbers. The film was widely panned for the really lame dialogue, incredibly dumb songs, memorable characters turned into something generic and forgettable, incomprehensible plot, and even the dreadfully cheap, uninspired and inconsistent animation (in comparison to the original film). TV Guide gave the film two stars out of four. Don Bluth himself had actually talked about making a sequel to the original film, obviously on one of his Toontalk magazines that are now rare to find, but unfortunately, this idea was dropped after MGM produced the sequel, without his permission.

Soundtrack
Despite the bad critical reaction of this film, it somehow managed to get a motion picture soundtrack released on CD in 1999 by Sonic Images & MGM Records.

Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH is a novel by Robert C. O’Brien (pseudonym of Robert Conly), published by Atheneum in April 1971. The story revolves around that of a widowed mouse named Mrs. Frisby and her interactions with highly intelligent rats who escaped from experiments by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). The book involves the themes of friendship and courage, and also alludes to the immorality of experimentation done on non-human animals.

Two sequels, Racso and the Rats of NIMH and R.T, Margaret, and the Rats of NIMH were written by O'Brien's daughter Jane Leslie Conly.

The novel was filmed as an animated feature, The Secret of NIMH, by Don Bluth in July 1982. Mrs. Frisby was renamed Mrs. Brisby because of a threatened lawsuit for copyright and trademark violation by the Wham-O company, manufacturers of the Frisbee toy. The movie was criticized for this and other plot changes, especially the change of "the secret" from a science-fictional cause to magic and wizardry.

A character sheet, also known as a char sheet, reference sheet, refsheet, or model sheet, is an important reference artifact in furry fandom, as the primary means for fans to describe their roleplaying character(s) and/or fursona quickly and easily to others, without needing to repeat detailed explanations multiple times over.

A good reference sheet can cut down on communications issues with fans and artists when commissioning work.

Some furries use the term to refer to written references or simple reference pictures of their characters, while a model sheet specifically refers to a more detailed visual description of a character.

Character Sheets Outside of Furry Fandom
Character sheets are common to nearly all published ('table-top' or 'paper-and-pencil') roleplaying games (e.g., Dungeons & Dragons, Werewolf: The Apocalypse, GURPS, Ironclaw), to record vital information about a primary character being played and portrayed by a player. Mostly, this information is specific to the published game in question, but also includes name biographical information, possessions, and sometimes a character sketch.

In animation, cartooning and graphic design, model sheets and character sheets are basically two variations of the same term, and both are used to refer specifically to the more graphical descriptions of various characters.

Written Reference
Furry character sheets typically includes the user/character's name, age, species, gender, height, weight, appearance, personality, and traits.

Some have more detailed information added, including sexuality, nicknames, martial status, fetishes, items, and biography, and a snapshot or image of the character.

Example
*Name: Peter Wolfowitz
*Age: 23
*Species: Wolf
*Gender: Male
*Height: 6'0
*Weight: 120 lbs.
*Appearance: A slender anthropomorphic wolf with black fur and acid-yellow eyes
*Personality: Calm and collected
*Traits: Skilled in the making of arts and crafts

Character model sheet
A character model sheet, also known simply as a model sheet, is a graphical version of the "character sheet".

Although not a term with its origins in the furry fandom (having being first conceived and used in mainstream animation,) it's often used by furry artists and fans to graphically describe a character, fursonas, or even fursuits.

It displays a specific turnaround view and look on the particular features of a character, such as head and body shape, hair and tail length and style, size and position of the eyes, mouth, ears, fur patterns and design, etc.

Color callouts and character descriptions may be added to / accompany the model sheet.
Gay Purr-ee is an animated musical featuring cats as the main characters produced by United Productions of America and released by Warner Bros. in 1962. It features the voice talent of Judy Garland and was Garland's only animated voice role. According to the Production Notes on the DVD edition it was Garland who suggested that her Wizard of Oz songwriters Arlen and Yip Harburg should write the songs for Gay Purr-ee.

Plot synopsis
spoiler
The story is set in turn-of-the-century France and takes place predominantly in Paris (sometime during the events of the 1952 film Moulin Rouge!). However, it begins on a farm in Provence ("Mewsette"), where the lovely cat Mewsette is bored with her beau (Jaune Tom, an accomplished but shy mouser). Inspired by Jeanette's stories of the glamour and sophistication of Paris ("Take my Hand, Paree"), Mewsette runs away to the big city via Orient Express, where at Gare Montparnasse she encounters the slick con-cat Meowrice. Taking advantage of the country kitty's naivete, he puts her in the care of the sultry Madame Reubens-Chatte, who promises to turn Mewsette into a dainty debutante. Unbeknownst to Mewsette, Meowrice is grooming her to be the mail-order bride of a rich American cat in Pittsburgh known as "Mr. Henry Phtt" ("The Money Cat"). Meanwhile, Jaune Tom and his sidekick Robespierre arrive in Paris, searching for Mewsette.

Training does not go well. Just as Mewsette is about to give up and return to the farm in Provence, Meowrice takes her out to see the cat side of Paris, the Eiffel Tower, the Moulin Rouge and the Champs-Élysées as well as kissing in buggies ("The Horse Won't Talk"). Reinvigorated, she returns to her studies. Jaune Tom and Robespierre arrive just at that moment but Robespierre is sidetraked by Armond one of Meowrice's shadowy cat henchmen and barely escape drowning in Paris's famous labyrinthine sewers. By coincidence, Jaune Tom displays his incredible mouse-hunting skills in front of Meowrice, who sees a money-making opportunity consisting of 75 francs, takes them to the Moulin Rouge, gets them drunk by drinking champagne ("Bubbles"), and shanghais them as mousers to a stowaway on the SS City of New York bound for Alaska.

Mewsette finishes her training and is now lovely enough to impress even Meowrice, who commissions ten paintings of her by the most famous artists in Paris including Claude Monet, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Georges Seurat, Henri Rousseau, Amedeo Modigliani, Vincent van Gogh, Edgar Degas, Auguste Renoir, Paul Cézanne, Paul Gauguin and Pablo Picasso (an opportunity for the animators to indulge in some artistic parodies), so that he can send them to Mr. Phtt. Meowrice quietly writes a check to pay his sister, Madame. Reubens-Chatte (using disappearing ink, so that the check is worthless), and takes Mewsette to Notre Dame. There, he reveals his plan to ship her to America and tries to persuade her to enter a luggage crate, but Mewsette does not want to marry anybody but Jaune Tom and she manages to escape him. In the resulting chase scene, she leads Meowrice and his henchmen onto a bulldog, who wounds Meowrice badly enough to put him out of action for six weeks. Meanwhile, his sycophants (who are nowhere near as intelligent as he is) comb the city without success, searching for Mewsette.

On the New York, Robespierre consoles a depressed Jaune Tom, telling him that any problem, regardless of size, can be broken up into manageable pieces ("Little Drops of Rain"). He is right; not long after they reach Alaska (a howling wilderness of snow), they strike gold. Now wealthy, the two cats hurry back to Paris.

Disillusioned and homeless, Mewsette walks the city of Paris ("Paris is a Lonely Town.") Just as she is about to commit suicide by jumping into the Seine River from the Pont Saint-Michel bridge, Meowrice appears with his cats and captures her. When Armond informs Meowrice that Jaune Tom has arrived, Mewsette is taken to Gare de Lyon, en route RMS Empress of India to Pittsburgh, and all hope seems lost, until Jaune Tom and Robespierre arrive. They have been aided by Madame. Ruebens-Chatte, who is irritated that Meowrice double-crossed her. In a humorously over-the-top fight scene inside the boxcar of the Nord Express, Jaune Tom defeats Meowrice, but before he can throw him out the door, Robespierre spots the crate intended for Mewsette and packs him in, doubtless that this will be a nasty surprise for Mr. Phtt. The film concludes with Mewsette, Jaune Tom and Robespierre enjoying the high life in Paris that Mewsette was seeking when she left home ("Mewsette Finale").

Bambi, a Life in the Woods, originally published in Austria as Bambi. Eine Lebensgeschichte aus dem Walde, is a 1923 Austrian novel written by Felix Salten and published by Paul Zsolnay Verlag. The novel traces the life of Bambi, a male roe deer, from his birth through childhood, the loss of his mother, the finding of a mate, the lessons he learns from his father and experience about the dangers posed by human hunters in the forest. An English translation by Whittaker Chambers was published in North America by Simon & Schuster in 1928.
* In Hiroyuki Takei's manga, Shaman King, the tanuki Ponchi wears nothing, revealing large testicles that he uses to restrain/smother Manta Oyamada in an early appearance. The anime censors this by including a diaper and using his stomach instead.
*In the manga Yu Yu Hakusho one story involves an old man who one day walking in the woods with his grandson, came upon a tanuki caught in a hunter's trap and set it free. Later on after the little boy died suddenly and the old man is on his death bed, the tanuki, repaying the old man for his kindness, transforms into the old mans grandson and stays with him till he passes.
* In the anime InuYasha, a tanuki named Hachi occasionally assists the main characters by transporting them. He places a green leaf on his head to become a gigantic creature that resembles an ambulatory sock more than anything else.
* In the anime Naruto, the tanuki Shukaku is one of nine demons sealed within persons, giving them supernatural powers. Its host, Gaara, enjoys the ability to move and levitate sand at will, and sand moves to shield and protect him regardless of his will. These gifts, however, are at the cost of not being able to sleep, and an unstable personality. In extreme circumstances Shukaku may physically manifest as a giant creature made of sand. The story of Shukaku is partially a reference to Bunbuku chagama- the demon was originally a priest sealed in a tea kettle.
* In the MMORPG [Ragnarok Online, there is a tanuki-inspired monster called Smokie. Smokies are raccoon (or raccoon dog) monsters that once tamed as pets, may be prompted to perform a "trick" in which it either transforms into a leaf or uses a leaf to magically facilitate a vanishing act. Smokies commonly drop an item called a "Raccoon Leaf", which is an ingredient for a quest headgear that looks like a large leaf on the character's forehead when equipped called "Huge Leaf".
* The mascot of the anime convention Anime Mid-Atlantic is Tanuki-chan, a kemonomimi with raccoon/tanuki-like features.
* In Princess Raccoon, a 2005 film by director Seijun Suzuki, Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi portrays Tanuki-hime, a tanuki princess who falls in love with a human prince.
* The Japanese punk band Melt Banana recorded a song entitled "Pidgeon-Headed Raccoon-Dog".
* The comic story Moth & Tanuki by Ian C. Thomas, appearing in Australian manga anthology, OzTAKU, and the monthly kids' magazine MANIA (2007).
Llamas are typically used as derogatory labels within and without the furry fandom.
One of the more common usage of the terms is used as a derogatory title to describe a newbie furry. This label is an import from gaming and early Internet cultures where it is used to describe a person that does not play the game very well and is frequently used synonymously with the term lamer, which may have had its origins in the word llama.

Llama Characters
Llama characters are very uncommon in the furry fandom. Those that do exist often undertake radical changes to the species (such as coloration and fur type), and very few have common traits between them.
Star Fox: Assault is an action-shooter hybrid video game for the Nintendo GameCube in 2005 and is the fourth released title in the Star Fox series.

* Falco
* Krystal
* Slippy

Peppy is also seen in the game, however it is suggested that he has retired from space combat and basically gives advice to Fox from the carrier ship "Great Fox".

R.O.B., named after the original NES system accessory, is the droid on the ship whose general purpose is unclear.

The developers
The four flight crew members are part of the continuing storyline behind Nintendo's popular Star Fox series. It was published by Nintendo and developed with Namco. Released on February 15th, 2005, the game was a tool of sorts to bring back some of its fans from the disappointment of Star Fox: Adventures.

New gameplay
Fox has three modes of combat not available in previous episodes:

* Air/Space combat in the Arwing
* Ground combat in the new Landmaster
* First person close quarters combat

Star Fox: Assault gives the player the choice to play solo, or the option to play cooperatly with three other players.

Basic storyline
The Lylat system is under attack from the Aparoids; a cyborg-like creature that assimilates living organisms into its collective. The collective mind is operated by a hive queen from the Aparoid homeworld. Most critics say that the villain and storyline are a direct ripoff from the Star Trek race known as the Borg, who also were cyborg creatures that assimilated and destroyed under the command of the Borg queen.

In short, help Fox and the team defend the system, defeat the Aparoids in the area, travel to the homeworld of the Aparoids, and kill the Aparoid queen.
The Last Unicorn is an animated movie released in 1982 about a young unicorn who is searching for more of her kind, but is told by all that she is the last. It is based on a book written by Peter S. Beagle with the same title.

spoiler
Relation to the Furry Fandom
The Last Unicorn was one of the earliest animated fantasy features with a furry element to be targeted at higher age groups. Thus it had special appeal for the fandom and has remained an often referenced title. It features talking animals, mainly a morphing unicorn.
Trivia
* The riddle that Schmendrick used to distract Ruhk while freeing the Unicorn is the same unanswerable riddle that the Mad-Hatter gives Alice in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The riddle is, "Why is a raven like a writing desk?"
* The movie's soundtrack was a German best-selling album in 1983.
* The Last Unicorn was animated by Topcraft, the same company that helped anime director Hayao Miyazaki gain his fame.
* James Earl Jones, Harrison Ford, and Mark Hamill of Star Wars fame were all considered for voicing characters in this film.
* In Greek mythology, Amalthea is the name of the goat the nursed baby Zeus.
* A remake is planned for release in 2006 with some of the original actors reprising their roles.
The Rescuers is a 1977 American animated adventure film produced by Walt Disney Productions and first released on June 22, 1977 by Buena Vista Distribution. The 23rd film in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series, the film is about the Rescue Aid Society, an international mouse organization headquartered in New York and shadowing the United Nations, dedicated to helping abduction victims around the world at large. Two of these mice, jittery janitor Bernard and his co-agent, the elegant Miss Bianca, set out to rescue Penny, an orphan girl being held prisoner in the Devil's Bayou by treasure huntress Madame Medusa.

The film is based on a series of books by Margery Sharp, most notably The Rescuers and Miss Bianca. Due to the film's success, a sequel entitled The Rescuers Down Under was released in 1990.
Don Bluth, full Donald Virgil Bluth (born September 13, 1937), is an American animator and owner of the studio of the same name.

Biography
While having his start at Disney and being involved with such projects as Winnie the Pooh, Robin Hood, The Rescuers and The Fox and the Hound, he is most well known for his independent projects such as The Secret of NIMH, An American Tail, The Land Before Time and All Dogs Go to Heaven, as well as other box office hit films, such as Titan A.E. and Anastasia.

Bluth's film and animation style tends toward rougher and more energetic portrayals than that of Disney films and tend to have a mystical element to them. This style led to a rift between him and Disney, which would lead him to open his own studio. His subsequent film The Secret of NIMH, as well as the groundbreaking arcade game Dragon's Lair, launched Bluth into prominence.

Don is the older brother of animator Toby Bluth.
The mole is a burrowing insectivore of the taxonomic family Talpidae. They are best known for their burrowing habits and their poor eyesight.

Habits
Moles are literally built for digging, typically having proportionately huge shovel-like forepaws turned outward. Their sense of smell is very keen while their ears and eyes are comparatively very small. The golden mole does not have eyes at all. A mole's home territory is usually in established tunnel systems, since digging new tunnels requires a tremendous energy output. Moles tend to be rather anti-social and territorial.

Mole characters
The way moles have been adopted into stories ironically has little or nothing to do with their real-life habits. Probably due to their soft fur and pudgy appearance, moles have historically been characterized as friendly, simple people. (One notable exception is the mole from the fairy tale Thumbelina, who is the villain!) They show up repeatedly in English literature. One of the main characters in Graeme's Wind in the Willows series is a mole, called "Mole" or "Moley"; they are also a staple in the Redwall series.
