The tiger of the wind is a wind demigod whose primary purpose is to serve as the overseer of all the movement of air in a given environment. Despite the magnitude of such an undertaking as a deity he is well equipped to handle his charge. Due to the nature of many social role playing environments, Tiger's abilities are rarely needed and are often frowned upon. As such, he spends his most him time living the life of a big fluffy anthropomorphic white tiger.

The role that Tiger fills run in cycles equal to lifespan of whatever primary form the deity is born into. Power manifests at puberty as per standard cliche but often minor unconscience air control happens at a young age. Reawakening occurs as skills are honed and the keeper of wind recollects past lives as he or she is taught more by the wind itself.

Tiger himself cannot remember his name as identity is stricken when full power is reached. Put simply the wind carries away the name of the keeper. Tiger's childhood was less than charmed. His parents were taken by a car accident and at an early age he was raised by human in an orphanage. Though many of memories have been stripped, the abuse and cruelty suffered at the hands of humans has led him to remain in primarily furry environments where he can keep his contact with humans limited. At the age of 15, he reached full potential and destroyed the orphanage and all that he had ever known. The tiger of the wind is a wind demigod whose primary purpose is to serve as the overseer of all the movement of air in a given environment. Despite the magnitude of such an undertaking as a deity he his well equipped to handle is charge. Due to the nature of many social role playing environments Tiger's abilities are rarely needed and are often frowned upon. As such, he spends his most him time living the life of a big fluffy anthropomorphic white tiger.

The role that Tiger fills run in cycles equal to lifespan of whatever primary form the deity is born into. Power manifests at puberty as per standard cliche but often minor unconscience air control happens at a young age. Reawakening occurs as skills are honed and the keeper of wind recollects past lives as he or she is taught more by the wind itself.

Tiger himself cannot remember his name as identity is stricken when full power is reached. Put simply the wind carries away the name of the keeper. Tiger's childhood was less than charmed. His parents were taken by a car accident and at an early age he was raised by human in an orphanage. Though many of memories have been stripped, the abuse and cruelty suffered at the hands of humans has led him to remain in primarily furry environments where he can keep his contact with humans limited. At the age of 15, he reached full potential and destroyed the orphanage and all that he had ever known. From there he began a trek across many of the furry social environments where he became more aware of his purpose and status. His maturity has developed in time with his player's as they share ages.

== History ==

Tiger of the Wind was separated from his mother at a very young age for unknown reasons. He spent most of his life traveling with his brother, Gray Wolf. They lived off whatever they could, stealing, killing, and foraging. They faced everything together. Needless to say Tiger and Gray Wolf were very close. As time went on, they joined up with other Tigers, all outcasts of humans. They traveled and survived together. Then, one day, they met [[Wikipedia:Moo (Monster Ranchers)|Moo]], a horrible creature who takes over good monsters and turns them into evil villains. He killed most of Tiger's pack, and kidnapped his brother, leaving Tiger scarred across the face. Tiger moved on, building a new pack. Then, one day, he met up with Genki. At first, they were enemies because Tiger didn't trust humans until Genki won him over after a clan of Black Dinos working for Moo killed all of Tiger's new pack. Tiger joined up with Genki, Holly and the rest, in hopes of one day defeating Moo and avenging his pack. As they battled enemies and came against many tough situations, they found out about the Big Bad Four, a group of the strongest of the monsters working for Moo. To Tiger's horror, he discovered that his long lost brother was one of this group. Tiger was forced to defeat his own brother, but after Moo was destroyed, all the Lost Disks were revived and Tiger and his brother were reunited.

You will very often see DDR games at a furry [[convention]].

== Basic Gameplay ==

DDR is played with four buttons, each an arrow pointing up, down, left, and right appropriately, and arranged in a "+" pattern. The arcade version's play area, often called the stage, is a slightly raised metal platform which houses the buttons, sensors to detect when the buttons have been depressed, and lights to illuminate the buttons as directed by the game (usually when pressed). There are also many home versions of the game, and a home version configuration of the stage can be anywhere from a simple store-bought plastic mat with pressure sensitive areas to thicker, padded, heavy-duty plastic mats to full-scale metal replicas of the arcade platforms, the last of which is typically only used by the more die-hard players due to the prohibitive costs of such a setup.

The game's purpose is to match the patterns of arrows on a screen with your feet. The top of the game play screen contains four shadowed-out arrows (sometimes called targets) that flash to the beat of the song. As the song plays, brightly-colored arrows will scroll from the bottom of the screen to the top. As the scrolling arrows overlap with the targets, the players step on the corresponding arrow on the stage. Each individual step is graded on timing, with grades ranging from "Perfect" to "Bad", and "Miss" for arrows that were not stepped. (These names may vary slightly between games, and some newer versions introduce a "Marvelous" ranking above "Perfect" for some modes of play.) If the steps are graded high, the player's life meter will increase. For low grades, the life meter will decrease, and if the life meter runs out, the song ends and the game is over. At the end of the song, the players are given an overall letter grade for the song based on the total number of steps and how they were graded.

Early versions of the game contained as few as 12 songs, but newer versions have well over 200 songs. Each one is given a difficulty rating based on the number of steps, how complex the steps are, and the speed of the song. Most songs have three seperate difficulties for varying degrees of player abilities. Some songs also contain alternate versions for specific modes of play, and the most recent versions have a specific beginner level for new players.

Due to the physical nature of the game, DDR is also viewed by some as an excellent fitness work-out method.

In addition to the standard game, there are also alternate modes of play for advanced players.

'''Nonstop courses''' contain four pre-selected songs that play back-to-back until the end.

'''Oni (or Challenge) courses''' are similar to Nonstop courses, but are often more difficult, and contain a much stricter life meter. The meter for this mode allows for three errors in play. Once a fourth error is made, the game is over. Between songs, the bar will recover an amount that depends on the specific song and course.

'''Double Mode''' is designed for one player to use two pads connected immediately adjacent to each other. In addition to playing the regular game, Double versions of Nonstop and Oni are also available. However, Double Mode does not contain a Beginner difficulty.

Tournaments for DDR have appeared at a number of conventions over the years. Even lacking a tournament, there is often at least a quick game setup at mostly every major convention. == DDR At Anthrocon 2006 ==

After many years of successful AC DDR Tournaments. This year [[Tiger of the Wind]] implemented a new tournament format to challenge the now more experienced DDR Furry community. The Cardmod format had top DDR Furries fighting it out while a variety of modifications we're applied to arrows to increase the difficulty. There were even moments where DDR was played with no music, with a participant singing the song the words to the song being played, and even with a small white tiger plushie purchased by Tiger's mother. The competition was fierce but in the end [[Eternal]] became a two time winner of the AC DDR Tourney. [[Tiger of the Wind]] hopes to expand on the mod format for next years tourney.
