FURFAGS CAN YIFF IN HELL

Yashin is an anthropomorphic male ferret from Kaze: Ghost Warrior pilot episode. He is one of three characters (himself plus Kaze and Itsua) who does speak in the episode (as with all of the voices in the original pilot, Yashin was voiced by the same person who created the series, Timothy Albee)). A few fans have erroneously identified Yashin as a rat, but the intended and modelled him after a ferret.

Yashin is a local ringleader of Lord Soshi's Enforcers, including Koten and Yasei who cause trouble for folk and especially business owners like Itsua to force them to pay money. He leads a failed attack against Kaze in Itsua's tavern, trying to get a rise out of Kaze by holding Yasashii hostage.

SpoilerYashin later tracks Kaze down in an empty field, where Kaze grieves in painful tears over 'Bay and leads a much larger (and fatally failed) attack with at least ten men. Six of his men die from Kaze's incredibly fast, powerful and masterfully skilled attacks and four others flee before Yashin finally stands alone to face Kaze. He trembles as he alone holds his sword to Kaze, but seems to know it is useless ... still, unlike four of his own men, he does not flee as Kaze begins a form of final rites to him, nor does he seem to make any attempt to resist as Kaze holds him, blesses him for his next life, and he grasps around Kaze's arm as Kaze finally executes him with a claw into his throat.

It is unknown if Yashin's reluctant yet seeming resignation to his execution by Kaze was as some show of honor as a warrior (but, then, what honor did Yashin have to personally hold Yasashii, an unarmed civilian, hostage?), or perhaps he feared a fate worse than death with the shame of his earlier defeat to Kaze and failure to serve Soshi.

West Corner Of the Park (or WCOTP) is a comic based around the denizens of FurryMUCK, although it often comments on issues of interest to the wider furry community. It is drawn on a weekly basis by Jim Groat, and coloured (since June 2008) by Crowley.

*Address: http://www.graphxpress.com/cgi-bin/wcotp.cgi
*Ran from/to: 1 July 1997 - present

The name of the strip is derived from FurryMUCK - the real West Corner of The Park is the centre of the FurryMUCK universe, being the place where new characters emerge from (under the bandstand), and is generally the focal point of much of the MUCK's activity.

Newcomers and critics have accused WCotP of simply not being funny. While it is true that many of the jokes require knowledge of the characters or locations that is not presented in the comic, the strip's fans counter with the statement that the gags and characters were always intended to be in-jokes meant to cater especially to the MUCK community (and that, as Jim Groat produces the strip for free, he has no obligation to meet the standards of an outside audience).fact

The strip occasionally airs the author's political views. It frequently depicts obituaries of both favored and disfavored persons, with favored ones such as Bob Hope and Ray Charles being escorted to heaven, while Yasser Arafat and Saddam Hussein are taken to hell.fact

The many running gags at WCotP include:

* Bunnies (particularly the Easter bunny) and their edibility
* Gin's love of guns, and other explosive substances
* The yiffiness of vixens, and the foxes (typically, new players) that desire them - and get smashed for it
* Flinthoof's addiction to Altoids (a type of mint), which frequently lead him to places where man (of any species) was not meant to go - see also Red Shetland

The strip usually takes a break the week during and sometimes before a convention attended by Groat, followed by the previous weekend's public art jam before new strips resume. The deaths of prominent artists and entertainers are also noted in strips.

If the strip is late being posted, Cuprohastes usually blames Space Weasels as the cause on the WCOTP Livejournal community. The WCOTP community is no longer being updated.

As of May 2007, the comic (along with the rest of GraphXPress) is reportedly banned in Qatar.

Cuprohastes quit colouring WCOTP after the March 16, 2008 strip, though he continued to colour the WCOTP cover up to "Book 10" for which he still has not been paid.

The comic ran in black and white for several weeks until colouring was taken over by Crowley who was asked to continue colouring in the style used by Cuprohastes.

Jacksonville Furs

Jacksonville Furs are, as the name implies, furry fans living in the Northeast Florida area (the "First Coast"), primarily the greater metropolitan area of Jacksonville, Florida. The group is often referred to as the JaxFurs for short.

Founding
The JaxFurs started out as a small group of friends hanging out on a regular basis. After a while, that group realized there must be a lot of other furs in a city the size of Jacksonville. Celestial Fox and FuzzWolf set up a meet at a local Denny's which was posted on the Florida Furs mailing list. The turnout, over 20 people, surprised the two organizers and ended up taking up nearly a quarter of the Denny's restaurant. E-mail addresses were collected from everyone who attended and on April 10th, 2000 Celestial Fox created the first mailing list for the community on eGroups, which later became Yahoo Groups.

Events
Jacksonville has a loose-knit group of furry fans, who get together weekly for meets at the area's malls, as well as other informal get-togethers from time to time.

The major get-together for the region is the Annual JaxFurs Spring Picnic, usually held in late-April, at K.A. Hanna Park near Jacksonville Beach.

Jacksonville hosted its first furry convention in March 2007, when Megaplex 6 was held at the Wyndham Jacksonville Riverwalk downtown. This was the first time one of the major furry events in Florida had been held somewhere other than Orlando. Megaplex 7 returned to the Wyndham on 28-30 March 2008; however, the convention has announced a move back to the Orlando area in 2009.

Weekly Mall Meets
The community has a meet each Saturday at 6pm, the location rotates around the three area malls in Jacksonville. The location for each week's meet is found on the calendar of the group's mailing list.

The mall meets were originally devised by FuzzWolf and started out as Weekly Coffee Meets where the group would meet in front of Barnie's Coffee every Wednesday (later changed to Tuesday) at 7pm. Due to the Jacksonville area's sprawling size and the far-flung locations of some regular group members, the strategy of moving the meet location to another mall in a clockwise rotation was used to allow furs in different parts of the city to have a meet close to them at least every three weeks. The first Weekly Coffee Meet was held at the Regency Square Mall on 4/14/03. As time went by, the meets became less about meeting for coffee and simply about meeting in the mall for dinner, window shopping and conversation in the food court.

Due to declining interest and a very close poll on the mailing list, the meets were suspended after the 10/11/05 meet at the Avenues Mall. Their planned replacement was to be a series of parties held each Saturday night at an individual fur's home. When the weekly parties failed to become a regular event and several complaints were raised to the current and prior moderators about the lack of activity, the weekly mall meets were reinstated by DracoFur. The new meet time and day was chosen by popular vote on the mailing list and the first Saturday mall meet took place on 3/11/06 at the Avenues Mall.

Attendance and interest have returned to previous levels and the weekly meets currently average at least 10 to 12 regular attendees.

Mailing List
The Jacksonville Furs mailing list has served as the primary means of communication and event planning for the group since its founding.

Primary Moderators
* Celestial Fox 4/2000 - 8/2000
* FuzzWolf 8/2000 - 1/2005
* Lace Aurora 1/2005 - 5/2006

* WindChanneller 8/2007 - Present
* Xander 8/2008 - 4/2009
* Paradox 4/2009 - Present

List History
The first mailing list was created by Celestial Fox in April 2000. Upon his moving to Austin in August of the same year, he appointed FuzzWolf as the list's moderator. Unfortunately, Celestial Fox later withdrew from the internet and FuzzWolf's moderator status did not allow him to add new moderators to the group. When FuzzWolf moved to Dallas in January 2005 to live with his mate, he moved all his personal mailing lists over to a new Yahoo screenname, changed the password on the mailing list's moderator account and transferred control to his successor, Lace Aurora.

When Lace Aurora moved to Orlando after graduating college in May 2006, he transferred control of the mailing list to DracoFur in the same way as he had received it. In order to allow more moderators to assist with the ever-growing group and his decreasing amount of free time, DracoFur did what FuzzWolf had been reluctant to do and created a new mailing list which would allow him full access to the group's moderator options. This allowed him to assign additional moderators to assist with the group's operation and later transfer the group's ownership to new primary moderators.

The new mailing list has the same name as the original with the exception of the "-" in the URL. The original list is still kept active as an archive of information, messages and other files.

In August of 2007, the list's moderator structure changed by moving to having two primary moderators sharing ownership and assigning additional moderators as needed.

In March of 2009, STiTcH stepped down as primary moderator and returned to regular moderator duties due to lack of time, his career, snd school.

Anthropomorphic

Techo111:

:"Anthro" redirects here. You may be looking for the fanzine, Anthro.

Anthropomorphic is a word meaning "like a human." It is used to describe a well-known concept called anthropomorphism, or ascribing human characteristics to a non-human being or object. Typically, this is used in reference to deities, which are usually given the form of humans. However, the word can apply to any non-human thing, including animals, plants, and inanimate objects.

In a literary sense, there is a difference between ascribing human traits to an object (anthropomorphism), or to an abstract concept (personification).

Anthropomorphic and furry
Since the 1980s, the furry fandom has used the word to refer primarily to bipedal animals. Anthropomorphic animals are sometimes called anthro or morphic for short, and art featuring furry characters is sometimes called anthro art. This is somewhat ironic, as anthro ultimately derives from the Greek anthropos, a word that means "human being."

Words like zoomorphic and especially therianthropic also properly describe an animal/human blend, but anthropomorphic is the more widely used term in the fandom.

There are subtle differences between the terms for an animal that thinks like a human and an animal that looks like a human. However, within the furry community the following terms seem to be used interchangeably:

Furry artist

A furry artist or anthro artist is a person who creates artistic works with the furry fandom in mind as the target audience, or who creates anthropomorphic art of interest to the fandom. The works of a furry artist are called furry art.

Generally, the term is restricted to visual artists who create drawings, paintings, collages, sculptures, and other types of visual works traditionally thought of as "art." Those who write furry stories are usually called furry writers.

The connection to furry fandom
Most furry artists have an active connection to furry fandom. Many attend furry conventions and furmeets, and some even organize specialized artist furmeets. Furry MUCKs, Internet forums, and IRC chats are as popular amongst furry artists as with the rest of the furry community. Typically, a furry artist utilizes these avenues not only as social tools but as a means of advertising his or her work.

However, a small portion of furry artists have little or no involvement in furry fandom. They may avoid fan social activities out of lack of interest, discomfort with the public reputation of furry fandom, dislike of the furry social community, or other personal reasons. This lack of personal involvement does not necessarily prevent such artists from selling their artwork to furry fans.

Making money as a furry artist
While some furry artists are able to make a living from their furry artwork, most do not. In general commissions, prints, and other art sales make a significant income only for very popular and well-known furry artists. Artists with a smaller fanbase may make a small amount of money from their furry art; this is predominantly through commissions (rather than prints or original non-custom works).

A large majority of furry artists create their artwork for the enjoyment of the subject matter. They share it on online art galleries without any expectation of sales.

There are sometimes rumors of a bias against hiring furry artists by art project directors. This is meant to be due to the pornographic nature of some furry art - however, according to one, the truth is that it's just hard to get furry artists to draw anything but furries.

Anakuro is a webcomic written by furry artists Ana (Stacie Pasman) and Kuro (George Takahashi). The slice-of-life comic follows the two title characters through events that sometimes parallel the lives of its creators, and takes place in a world populated by anthropomorphic animals whose species reflect their ethnicity.

The comic currently updates on a bi-monthly schedule. Strips are presented in greyscale.

Characters
Main characters
Anastacia “Ana” Maria Hernández-Velázquez
*Ana is a 23-year-old Iberian Lynx who currently lives with Kuro in Chicago, Illinois. Born in Madrid, she is fluent in both Spanish and English. She works as a graphics designer and freelance artist, and loves cookie dough, caffeine, and half-Japanese wolf boys. She is engaged to Kuro.

<div style="clear:both"></div>
Kuro Mori

*Kuro is a 25-year-old Kai Inu/gray wolf hybrid who works in Chicago as a jack-of-all-trades of sorts, repairing computers at Ana's design firm and doing other odd jobs. He was born to a Japanese father and American mother in Osaka, Japan, where he was ridiculed and ostracized for being multiracial. He later moved to Spain where he eventually met Ana. He is best described as "mopey," though Ana has managed on several occasions to make him crack a smile.

<div style="clear:both"></div>

Secondary characters
;Becca Takamura
*Becca is a short, stocky Japanese raccoon dog and Ana's coworker and friend. As an American-born tanuki surrounded by raccoons, she is quite defensive of her species and will not tolerate being misidentified. Becca can be a bit boisterous and outspoken, but she has a kind heart and good intentions.

<div style="clear:both"></div>

;Shiroji Mori
*Shiroji is Kuro's younger brother. He is much more upbeat and happy than his dour older sibling, possibly because he was too young to be affected by his mother's presumed death.
