Taw: updated status regarding weasyl project

Taw Echo (born July 24) is a Canada-based digital artist and 3D modeller. He was the Forum Head and a Director of Weasyl from September 2011 until September 2013.

Fursona
Taw's fursona is a Black Flying Fox (Pteropus alecto). His fur is black with a grey chest and belly. His wings are attached down along his arms and sides. Unlike the norm for his species (only having three fingers and wings), Taw's wings stop at the wrists and he has full paws.

Taw has blue eyes and medium-length black hair. When he smiles, his left fang also shows a bit. Ironically, although he is a fruit bat, he is allergic to apples.

Taw is an introvert by nature, but when he is comfortable around people he is more extroverted, and more open and playful. Taw is pragmatic, logical and creative. Some people may perceive him as distant or reserved; mainly because of his quiet nature. His personality type falls under INTJ.

Furry fandom
Taw became active in the fandom midway through 2009, mainly via IRC chatting, furry game servers, and posting art on Fur Affinity. Taw purchased a fursuit from Temperance in 2010, and has occasionally worn it around his hometown for fun, such as going to Denny's or random outings with friends or local furs.

Taw attended 2012. This was his first furry convention, although he had been to a few anime conventions previously.

Art
Taw mainly specializes in space-themed wallpapers and backgrounds, as well as other forms of digital media, such as photo manipulations. He has also graduated from a 3D Game Animation and Modelling program in September, 2012. He previously used to study cinematography and photography in his spare time.

Weasyl
Taw came across Weasyl one night in September, 2011, stumbling upon an upload by Kihari. He offered to help in the form of making some designs and images to help spruce up the look of the project, before Aden took over in regards to the design. As Forum Head, he puts together the functionality and style of the forums and maintains them along with his fellow staff member Eminoxic. As of September 2, 2013, he has stepped down from Weasyl for personal reasons unrelated to the project.

Taw: Updated staff listing - don't know Morphology, Term or Matt's alias' in the fandom if it's different. I'll fix 'em if I find them out, but for now this is all I know. Sorry wiki people!

Weasyl is an in-development social art gallery website, intended to to serve artists in both the furry fandom and the broader online artistic community. The project's stated primary goals are to provide a secure and easy-to-use site that grants its users the greatest possible margin of artistic freedom.

Weasyl was slated to be released into open beta during the summer of 2012; the launch was later moved to "late-September" 2012. On September 30, the site came online, but was taken offline a day later to resolve "obvious issues".

History
Serious development on Weasyl (then known as the Fergal Project) began in early September 2011, with the intention of it being a simple gallery site exclusive to the furry art community; however, as development progressed and new features were added, the scope of the project expanded beyond its original intentions.

In October 2011 the project underwent major architectural changes (including a change in programming languages) in order to support a larger userbase and more advanced features. By the end of that month, a demonstration website was made available for users interested in testing the in-progress site. Beginning in January 2012, the codebase underwent yet another refactoring phase coinciding with an upgrade away from its original user interface. The original site staff was also largely formed during this month.

Weasyl LLC was formed in March 2012, becoming the website's operating organization. About three months later, staff launched a two-month long donation drive for site start-up costs, with a target goal of $5000. Donations of $5 or more earned the donor an invite to the beta release. On August 1, the drive came to a close, with over 200 people donating a combined $6015.

In June 2012, Weasyl presented a panel at Anthrocon, where a new user interface was demoed for the audience. The panel met with a positive reception. Weasyl's forums opened July 26, two months ahead of the planned beta launch.

Mascot
The mascot of the website is Wesley, an ermine dressed in a beret and vest whose tail is usually tipped in wet paint (as he frequently uses it as a paintbrush). His markings change with the seasons, adorning him with either his summer or winter coat as appropriate. The mascot was originally designed by FayV, who created the character after input from the rest of the staff. Since the character's inception, Wesley has been drawn by many different artists, including staff members Fiz the Ancient and Stereo Plair.
