Unique to the virtual pet breeding game genre is the fact that players do not start the game with a Waja to breed. Instead, players must first win one in a game of luck, find a person generous enough to give one away, or play other games on the website to earn virtual money and buy a Waja from another player.

== History ==
Wajas began as a wolf-like adoptable on a popular pet site named Pony Island. In late 2006, they were removed from Pony Island by their creator, subsequently creating Wajas as a website. There were initially three breeds to choose from: Normal, African and Divine. Since this time, three breeds has increased to nine, and membership has increased to over 60 000 accounts. This is approximately more than 30 000 people, as users are allowed a total of two accounts.

In September 2006, the site went through an extended period of downtime. During this time, the site underwent several changes including the addition of new breeds (the most recent two added in December and April) and items.

== Breeding ==
Breeding on wajas is done with one female and one male. There are two main types of breeding: reverse breeding (RBing) and studding.

If one user has a female waja and requests to breed this waja with their own male waja, this is called reverse breeding. Users put female wajas up for RBing by putting a breeding price on the waja's profile.

Studding can be done when one user requests to breed their own female waja with another user's male waja. Similar to reverse breeding, the male waja will have a breeding price on its profile as well.

Users also auction off breeding slots for certain wajas if they do not plan to breed their waja a lot.

Different breeds of wajas can be bred together to get a puppy, however, the puppy will take on the more dominant breed. Normals are known to be the most dominant breed.

=== Waja Breeds ===
There are currently nine breeds of Wajas, all of which resemble a wolf in some form. Prior ro the remolding of Wajas in 2007 and 2008, there was a tenth unofficial breed referred to as the 'Breedless' waja. Rather than displaying an image of a waja, the entire image was blank and featured no waja.

The nine current species include:

* '''Normal''': The most wolf-like of the Wajas and the most common.
* '''Fire''': The newest specie added to the site. The fire waja has three tails and flame-encased paws.
* '''Plushie''': The Plushie waja is a breed that appears to be a stuffed rendition of a wolf. It has button eyes and markings that appear more muted in saturation.
* '''Water''': A waja based off the appearance of water.
* '''Corsie''': A waja that appears to be much shorter in stature than the other breeds. This waja features a much shorter tail and floppy ears.
* '''African''': This breed resembles an african dog, and is the only breed which is pictured to be facing forward. This breed has two tails and notably large ears.
* '''Egyptian''': This breed is much thinner and appears to have a much sleeker coat, with less pronounced shading in the fur. It has a long, thin tail and tall ears.
* '''Earth''': The only waja to appear to have hooves for feet.
* '''Divine''': Similar to its namesake, the Divine Waja appears regal and majestic. It is the only waja to have wings already.

=== Breeding Percentages ===
Four percentages appear on a waja's profile, each detailing an aspect of the waja's breeding. In order, they are: Mu, MU, MG LQ and In%.

MU is a numerical value of a waja's Mutation Gene. It is a number from 0-100 and represents how strong a waja's mutation is (how well it will carry over to its pups). The higher the Mutation Gene, the more likely a waja's puppy will carry the mutation. This can be increased by feeding a waja a Strange pear.

MG is a numerical value of a waja's Male Gene. It is a number from 0-100 and represents the percentage of a puppy being male. Male wajas are more difficult to find on wajas; wajas born male normally has a high MG. A waja's Male Gene can be increased by feeding it a Male pear.

== Pears ==
Pears are used throughout the website to increase wajas stats, change their gender, or assist in breeding. Pears can be purchased from the pear shop or from user shops. Users may also post on the forums advertising large amounts of pears to sell.

== Leaves ==
Leaves can be picked at the pear tree twice a day by upgraded users. They can be used to buy items at the Leaf Exchange, such as Markings Pears, Mutation Pears and Age Pears. Users can also sell leaves in their shops for WC or CWP.

== Currency ==
Wajas uses two forms of currency: Waja Credits (WC) and Crazy Waja Points (CWP). Waja Credits are the main currency of the site and can be earned by selling items, playing games, or accepting a paid breeding request from another user.

Crazy Waja Points are the second form of currency and are more difficult to come by. They can be purchased by making a donation to the website or by buying them with WC. The exchange rate varies from WC to CWP, and can be valued at 250 000 WC to 900 000 WC for one (1) CWP. With CWP, a user can purchase a custom or other items that can only be purchased with CWP.
