== 2024 Major Revision ==
Back in the mid 2000's Mark and I spent a significant amount of time poring over his old stories, logs of roleplays he'd had and technical documents he had written to develop the skiltaire lore for integration into a novel I was working on. While the novel project was never completed, I collected a large store of technical specifics that Mark provided about skiltaire lore including their culture, physiology, history and life cycles. We spent a lot of time roleplaying. I remember the first roleplay pose: He, as Sy Sable, his aquatic skiltaire, walked up to me and touched antennae with me, as Skiltek, my arby. In that instant, I became something. At the same time I became a part of something. Others started appearing around me and they were something too.

The two of us drifted apart and we lost communication. Mark always had so much going on that he had to choose where he applied himself. He gave me opportunities through creative writing to keep his attention but I ignored them. During one of our last conversations, he told me he planned to come here some day and update this article with the shared knowledge we had curated. I was eager to see the changes, but I waited. Now that he is gone, providing this information falls to me to cobble together in the best way I can. I hung onto the notes and used them, along with what I remembered from our conversations, to make this update to the article. I realize that some of these new bits of information can be particularly dark, especially the part about how skiltaire evolve and the one about twins sharing their life expectancy. But as Mark once put it, real imagination is not always sunshine and roses. The scary parts of the story are just as important as the fun ones. Mark wanted this information to be shared with everyone who loved skiltaire and especially those who had skiltaire characters. In our last conversation a few months back, Mark said that he missed roleplaying with all the people who had skiltaire characters back in the day, but that he realized that people's lives become other things and they move on with them. I wanted to tell him that I missed it too, desperately, and that since those days, I had always been a little bit lost, a little bit searching and a little bit empty. For days after that, I thought, I should have said more; I should have tried. I could have found some of the people who had gone and brought them back for him.

I think we have this expectation that the people we admire are supposed to just go on living forever, because they're such important parts of us. I miss Mark and his unmatched imagination. I miss the long nights we spent writing stories together, and I know I'm not the only one. But I also know that what I'm missing the most is a past I can't go back to. These little pieces I've strewn together are just echos of something far greater that none of us can hope to ever fully describe. How do you begin to describe a whole world, much less a universe that existed only in the imaginations of the fortunate few who were there for a flash of light that faded? It was long, it was slinky and it had these big bright eyes, and sometimes, a smile that could knock your socks off.

I know the formatting is terrible and it needs a lot of work. I'm not good at wikitext and I've grown soft editing Wikipedia articles with their graphical editor. I hope some of you will help me clean it up and add more information you've collected to this haggard ball of miscellanea I've stitched together.

== Physiology ==
Skiltaire vary in size, depending on sub-species and gender, but on average have a body length of 1 yard (0.91 m), not including a 1/2 yard (0.46 m) [[tail]]. Body weight range is 60 to 120 lbs (27.2 to 54.4 kg) for an adult. They closely resemble Earth [[mustelid]]s (weasels) and occur in several known subspecies.

The [[fur]] of skiltaire can be any color, although aquatics tend to be limited to gray, brown, light blue, tan, or cream. They often have a single wide or multiple thinner stripes that run up their back, from tail-tip to the top of their head, and darker [[paw]]s (boots) and ear-tips. The stripes can be any color, and are usually much darker or more intense.

A '''neon''' skiltaire has a stripe of highly contrasting color, darker in the middle and grading to pastel edges so that the stripe seems to glow. The neon pattern is most common in aquatics because the base fur color of aquatics tends to have less range than their stripe colors and allows the stripe to contrast more strongly.

A '''flame''' skiltaire is a color variation exclusive to arboreals where the stripes have the appearance of flames. Flame patterns are frequently seen in leucistic arboreals.

A leucistic skiltaire is one who is born with little or no pigment. Since extremes in appearance can reduce a skiltaire's ability to assimilate with groups, they will often dye their fur to avoid ostracization.

''Savanna'' skiltaire have vibrant, short fur that can be various patterns such as spotted, rosetted, blotched or mottled.

Skiltaire have large eyes with 4-pointed star-shaped pupils. Their ability to see into the infrared spectrum allows for night vision in situations where other entities would perceive total darkness. In addition to their individual visual capabilities, a group of skiltaire can combine low light perception into a shared telempathic stream of vision, allowing all of the collected light to be combined into a clearer scene for everyone in the group. Additionally, this capability allows for remote viewing, with one or more skiltaire acting as eyes for one or more other skiltaire in a different location.

An obvious characteristic on all skiltaire is a pair of 10 inch (25 cm) antennae which grow from just above the eyebrow. The antennae are the detector part of the animal's natural electrostatic field sense ability. The antennae are modified eye whiskers, and are made up of large interlocking sections that have small, back-facing barbs at the junction of each section. Aquatics possess relatively straight antennae, with a single kink at mid-length, whereas the antennae of arboreal are curled into loose spirals.

The body of a skiltaire has tissue below the skin that generates electricity which is isolated from the internal organs, much like those of an electric eel. The electricity produced by the animal is typically used for precise location detection and motion sensing in air (1 to 50 yard = 0.9 to 45 m range) and under water (1 to 100 yard = 0.9 to 90 m range). The electrical effect is used as an intimate greeting between animals, for stimulation during mating (induced ovulation), and also serves as a desperate defense against an attacker (contact only).

In extreme environments, skiltaire have developed features unique to that environment such as extra-dense fur in extremely cold environments (arctic skiltaire subspecies) and very short, vibrantly-colored fur in tropical jungle environments (Savanna skiltaire subspecies).

Skiltaire are ''''elite suppressors,'''' meaning that they are incapable of becoming infected with biological diseases, pathogens, harmful bacteria, airborne virii or other foreign bodies that affect most bio masses. It could be speculated that skiltaire are incapable of hosting pathogens due to incompatibility, since no such pathogens exist on their home planet.

==Gender and Gender Identity==
Although skiltaire may elect any gender identity, the observed biological genders have been male, female and hermaphrodite.

===Antennae===
The antennae are mutated eye-whiskers. They are protein-case cells that link together, with a thin tendons and nerve endings running inside the hallow shell parts. The tendons are controlled by muscles in the scalp, which can extend or retract the antennae, based on various stimulus. They extend when the skiltaire is using them for it's electrostatic motion sensing ability. The "flaccid" form, folded or curled is designed to get the antennae out of the way from obstacles while the skiltaire is in motion (running, crawling, climbing or swimming). Sections of the antenna may fold like a cantilever (typical of an aquatic form), or curl in a tight spiral (typical for an arboreal form). However, the way an antenna folds and extends can vary between individuals. The hinged cells have slight barbs which facilitate linking when used for mutual bonding/mating stimulus. If the protein cells are damaged, and the tendons and nerve endings are severed, these sections can and usually will grow back, though it takes as long as a year for part of a broken antenna to grow back. If the base area of the antennae is damaged, the antenna may be lost permanently.

The main evolutionary purpose for the antenna is to improve the directivity and sensitivity of the passive and active motion sense ability. Passively, the antenna can detect minute movements in the air via slight differences in the dielectric potential of the air molecules. In active mode, the skiltaire will charge the air with it's natural bio-electric energy, a variable (controllable) frequency pulsed-DC current that is produced in a trans-dermal layer of specialized fat which covers most of the body area. This fatty tissue can produce quite high voltage (much like Earth electric eels), and also works well as an insulator to protect the nervous system and internal organs. Skiltaire are pretty much immune to electric shock unless their hide is pierced. The pulsed electric field produced when a skiltaire is "scanning" radiates form the body to charge the air around them. A "map" of stationary objects in approximately a 30M circle can be interpreted, and any movement in that range, no matter how minute, creates dialectic differences which the antenna can pick up, and the brain can process. The accuracy for an adult is similar to Earth dolphin's natural "sonar". The antennae do not generate the field, but help disperse it, and act as steerable receptors.

Antennae have another purpose, obviously a part of behavior that has evolved over time. Skiltaire, like many other species which live in places with extreme climate range, have delayed implantation of fertilized eggs in the uterus. This allows precise control of gestation (to avoid young being born in bad weather times), or automatic abortion if the females body senses it may be unsafe to take a fetus to term. Along with delayed implantation, the concept of stimulation induced ovulation adds another layer of control to the skiltaire reproductive system. This "induced ovulation" can be observed in Earth mammals (weasels, marten, fisher, cats, some canines), and usually involves a rough courtship ritual, mating and typically a neck or muzzle bite, usually the male will bite the female, but this is not always the case. The skiltaire have refined this technique by using their bio-electric generation and sense to create the stimulus to induce ovulation.

== Mating and Pregnancy==
Although skiltaire participate in varied mate groups with various genders involved, reproduction is facilitated by one male and one female. For a mating sequence, the male and female intended parents will often separate from other mates to focus on the task with their other mates providing external support during the pair bonding and pregnancy. Once the delivery is made, the mateship group re-bonds and the young are cared for by the mateship group.

Mating between two skiltaire is a complex and extraordinary event that requires months or years of practice to complete. The exact details are known only among skiltaire, but the basics are of a sequence wherein the male and female align their empathic streams to solve a puzzle together. Skiltaire have a dual-layer data transfer function: Whereas earth species have only DNA to transfer information in the reproductive cycle, skiltaire have both DNA and a code key cypher. The male's subconscious psyche provides a key and the female's provides a cypher. To complete the transfer function, the male must inseminate the female, then assemble the key based on subconscious cues during mating, and transfer the assembled key via telempathic stream to the female, who pairs the key with her cypher. The two must then assimilate the cypher. Since every skiltaire has one whole set of DNA (as opposed to earth species who have a divided set), one set of DNA becomes the dominant set and the other becomes inert. However, pregnancy can only occur given the presence of one male and one female set of DNA, as both are required to complete the key bonding sequence. The DNA provided has to come from the pair, as only the DNA from the two fits the cypher. In pairings where one or both mates is a hermaphrodite, the servicing partner provides the male DNA set, while the receiving partner provides the female set.

== Psychology ==
Skiltaire are natural tele-empaths (analog telepaths), and use this ability to communicate with other skiltaire, other entities with similar abilities, and to aid in hunting. Analog telepathy involves sending and receiving complete sense and thought 'streams' of brain-wave activity, which the sender can control. The effect is that the receiver actually "feels" and "sees" and experiences that the sender transmits, whether it is a current experience, a vivid memory, or a constructed dream.

== Diet ==
Skiltaire are omnivorous, consuming a mixed diet of live prey and prepared foods consisting of animal, plant and dairy foods. Although they are born incapable of digesting dairy products, they can consume them after taking a medication such as Lactaid that provides the required digestive enzymes. They are opportunistic scavengers who will seek left-overs and handouts first before proceeding to exchange funds or barter for groceries.

== Culture ==
In some locations skiltaire share a mutualistic relationship with other species, exchanging access to knowledge about local resources for information about their own technology through telempathic exchange. With this ability they are capable of colonizing with a greater range of species more quickly than species who depend on developing a form of extracommunicative interaction when introduced to new life forms.

Because of the diversity of locations between skiltaire the level of their development in different places is varied. Some skiltaire are very basic like Earth forest creatures while some are incredibly intelligent [[relators]], each with different levels of intelligence and technology.

The "lower class" skiltaire are sometimes kept as pets by more advanced species in a symbiotic and often mutualistic relationship in which they exchange theraputic contact, telempathic abilities, attractive appearance as pets for shelter, food and protection from predators. There have even been some instances of skiltaire keeping other skiltaire as pets.

Skiltaire are shameless and most have a strong aversion to clothing of any type. They are highly adaptive and superb at emulating the culture of their host environment, making them prime candidates for cohabitation with advanced and emotional species.

== Advanced Evolution ==
In groups, skiltaire practice passive selection: Like a mother bird who ejects inferior chicks from the nest, skiltaire groups will isolate individuals who have known faults such as disabilities or low-functioning telempathic abilities and 'grey out' to them, a practice that isolates them from the analog telepathic stream of the group, preventing them access to information and resources. Doing so provides motivation for members of the group to maintain their health, grooming and overall appearance, and acts as an active selective evolution mechanism. In time these isolated individuals will separate from the group and develop individual self support mechanisms not seen in group-functioning skiltaire. Since skiltaire are highly prized companions by entities throughout the universe, they are never left on their own for long. Entities seeking pet skiltaire will often seek exiled skiltaire to keep owing to the reduced chance that they will defect to join a group.

== Group Work==
Skiltaire congregate in family groups similar to a 1970s-style commune to share resources. They are loosely divided into three classes and relaters. A relater is a skiltaire who is a charismatic leader who acts on behalf of the group as a liaison between their group and outsiders such as social workers, employers and service providers. A relater, for example, will interview on behalf of a class skiltaire in his group for jobs, will manage bills and budgets for everyone in his group, and will be financially responsible with power of attorney for everyone. Relaters typically speak several languages, are strong influencers and are generally well liked. Other skiltaire in their group will defer to their decisions and will allow their relater to make choices on their behalf without question.

Skiltaire seldom seek work independently with outside entities. Although not unheard of, skiltaire working independently is the exception. Most will work within a group of skiltaire, whereby the relater will apply for work within an organization where they will only accept work if the entire group is hired. A skiltaire group may comprise an entire company's people resources, or they may run an entire department. A group with many tech empaths may run an IT department or a group of strong empaths may run a human resources department. In some cases, relaters will start their own company, but they have a preference for providing their charges to other entities. The relater will negotiate and manage relationships with the corporate entity on behalf of their group. All pay goes to the relater who manages finances for the group and distributes funds as needed to individuals. Skiltaire use their group clout to weigh heavily in salary and labor negotiations: It is usually more financially sound to give them what they want than to try to force a decision, as losing an entire tightly integrated department can be devastating to a corporate entity.

== Pairing and Twins ==
An individual skiltaire may have one or more mates who are in their group, from other groups, or mates who are independents. The most common skiltaire mateships are the triangle, in which one skiltaire is of one type and the other two are of another type (for example, one aquatic and two arboreals; two arboreals and one aquatic or two savannas and one arctic); where the two types are diametrically opposed. And the pair, where one skiltaire is of one type and the other is of the other diametrically opposed type (for example, one aquatic and one arboreal, or one savanna and one arctic). Skiltaire mateships are frequently confusing to outside entities, as they can be dynamic and evolving with their dynamics being private.

Twin skiltaire are rare, but have been known to exist. In all cases they are functionally identical. They remain together for their entire lives with the individuals of the pair referred to as molecules. If one of the molecules dies, the other also dies, as they function as a single unit. Twin skiltaire seamlessly integrate in all activities from eating (they feed each other) to sleeping (one sleeps on top of the other) to sexual interaction (use your imagination here). A twin pair will typically seek one mate, which they share. All known instances of skiltaire twins have been male-male pairs, either arboreal or aquatic, with both molecules being the same type. Although they have difficulty integrating into groups due to their primary integration, they are given exception to the selection protocol.

== Classes ==
In different parts of the universe skiltaire have been given different labels (where labels exist) to identify major groups as identified by host locations. Although skiltaire have the ability to adapt to an environment with a granularity of one generation, they can be divided into four major groups, or classes.

Skiltek is a skiltaire who was captured by humans for use as a technical engineer on Kutek space station. It was thought that because skiltaire are fiercely independent and very loyal, he would make a good maintainer of the space station.

The Project Amber space station project was terminated in 1978 and Skiltek was released into society on Earth through an integration program designed to aid with reducing the impact of culture shock. Up to this point he had been forgotten about as a component of the space station project due to someone writing down his serial number incorrectly at the creation of the project.

Skiltek is the product of a breeding program known as Project A whose purpose was to develop skiltaire with enhanced technical empathy. He is a direct descendant of Enki, the God of Sweet Water. Originally the owners of the Kutek space station had intended to euthanize Skiltek as it was suspected that he would not be capable of integrating with society due to his previous isolation and his status as a minor deity, however it was thought that termination of his life may anger Enki and bring on the wrath of the gods.

It has been suggested that Skiltek was a facilitator of the technology that centered around Project Rainbow and may have indirectly been responsible for the loss of the lives of many people involved in the project.

All Bunnywarez items were their own original designs, made in Oakland, California.

When the strongest of the remaining projects ('''YiFFr''') went down permanently, it became clear another option was necessary and fast. Two weeks after the failure of YiFFr, the very first core program and associated [[W:MySQL|MySQL]] backend for the FurrTrax project were born. First starting out as a mobile website only, which still exists today. With the second revision of the core program and database schema chatrooms were added, customizable user profile pages were added, and a bunch of minor [[W:XSS|XSS]] and MySQL injection flaws were fixed up with the help of several members for security testing efforts.

Three weeks after the failure of YiFFr, the [[W:Alpha (programming language)|alpha]] version of the FurrTrax android app was released, which was little more then a browser launcher that opened the Mobile site. At the second month of operations, a more functional app version was released which while still relying on the mobile website, was not a launcher. It was in of itself a separate browser program just for FurrTrax. The app also was given the ability to submit [[W:GPS|GPS]] location data to determine the distance between the site's users, and helping members locate nearby potential friends.

* June 11, 2013 - FurrTrax was hit with its first internet based attack originating from Japan, from several IP Ranges.<ref>[http://furrtrax.com/indexsub.php?module=newsview&id=7 ''Trend Micro attempts to access FurrTrax Server.''] post by DarkXander on [[FurrTrax]]. == Hardware ==

The FurrTrax [[W:Computer|rig]], a [[W:Multi-core processor|Quad Core System]] with [[W:Gigabyte|16GB]] of [[W:Random-access memory|RAM]], and a [[W:Terabyte|2TB]] [[W:RAID|RAID]] system, was built in its entirety by DarkXander on [[W:Linux|Linux]] using [[W:PHP|PHP]], [[W:Java_(programming_language)|Java]], and MySQL. All PHP programming was written from scratch in [[W:Gedit|Linux G-Edit]].

FurrTrax does not use or rely on any third party frameworks, [[W:Content_management_system|CMS systems]], or [[W:Library (computing)|libraries]]. As all the code was written from scratch, and not publicly released, It provided a added layer of security since no one other then DarkXander knows how the Programming and MySQL systems truly function. The server is hosted in a PhoenixNAP Datacenter in Phoenix, Arizona.

From 1994 to 1995, Blackberry began compiling a list of Portland-based users of [[FurryMUCK]]. [[Baloo Uriza]] was then recruited to host a Unix based [[mailing list]], and from 1995 to 1997, the PDXFurs community and identity began to develop.

Events during this period centered on public, often free, gatherings or outdoor activities. There is little preserved or archived from this era. The second mailing list to bear the PDXFurs name was the [[W:Yahoo!|Yahoo!]]-based Pdxdfurs group, established on or prior to September 11, 2000<ref>[http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pdxfurs/message/1 PDXFurs Yahoo! == Meets and events==

PDXFurs is home to dozens of regular/recurring events and [[furmeet|meets]]. The most well known is the bi-weekly event at [http://theroxydiner.com The Roxy Diner] in Portland City center. A companion event sometimes takes place at the [http://www.vancouverbrickhouse.com The Brickhouse Bar & Grill] in Vancouver.

A weekly lunch meet, which alternates between [http://www.menupix.com/Portland/restaurants/909049/El-Indio-Portland-OR el Indio] in [[Halsey]] and [http://lahaciendarealonline.com La Hacienda Real] in [[W:Beaverton, Oregon|Beaverton, Oregon]], is also popular. A [[Coffee Meet|coffee house meet]] at [http://www.avaroasteria.com Ava's Roasteria] in Beaverton has a high participation rate among locals. Arts & crafts jam, an art/drawing meet, and long-running women's meet have met mixed success, but following [[Furlandia]], have grown significantly in size.

Other special events include [[W:Thanksgiving dinner|Thanksgiving dinners]], visits to the [[W:Oregon Zoo|Oregon Zoo]] and camping trips to the [[W:Oregon Coast|Oregon coast]] and [[W:Mount Hood|Mount Hood]].

There is no official events board for announcing events. The Portland Area Furs and PDXFurs' Facebook groups have grown into active hubs for planning events, however word of mouth, [[W:Twitter|tweets]], IRC, [[W:Email|email]], [[W:Skype|Skype]] and [[W:Text messaging|texting]] remain effective tools for locals to organize events.

Stathgar's character is a wolf with clusters of blue spots above the left eye and scattered around the body. Since they were originally drawn as green, it has sometimes been said that they act as a mood ring. Their origin has never been officially explained, but one story is that they are they are scars from a magic spell gone wrong.

His Griffox character is an [[hybrid]] part [[eagle]], part [[fox]]. Born as a [[werewolf]] of Gaia in 1978, he grew up like a normal homide, rejected by [[human]]'s society until his first transformation. Two years with the werewolves taught him to dislike those creatures, and he looked for ways to escape his curse. In 1999, he found a demon who accepted to replace his curse for another one. He then became a full shapeshifter thanks to a strange golden amulet offered by the demon. He adapted his shape through time to adopt more or less permanently the one of a Griffox.

==Griffox form==

While the Griffox resembles, at a glance, a [[fox]] with [[wing]]s, it has several less visible [[avian]] features.

* Ozone's entire anatomy is naturally adapted to flying.
* Fully feathered like a bird's, the wings have a very flexible skeletal structure. His wings have superhuman strength and can create enough lift to enable him to carry aloft at least 500 pounds in addition to his own weight.
* The fur around his shoulderblades is in fact very thin black feather covering the wing arms. The wing's pits are protected by numerous grey feathers while the longest white ones can be up to four feet long and provides the main flight support.
* His cartilage bones are hollow like a bird's, making him weigh far less than usual for a fox of his build.
* His body is virtually devoid of fat, and possesses greater proportionate muscle mass than an ordinary fox does, a larger neck and a stronger chest.
* His organs are protected in a large rib cage. His very thin tummy almost devoid of anything thus looking atrophied. His tail is flat and triangular, used like a rudder for his flight.
* His eyes are specially adapted to withstand high-speed winds which would hurt the average fox eye. They are extremelly sharp and are able to see the smallest of prey from afar. His [[ear]]s are as large as a [[Fennec]]'s and can twist backward to make his head perfectly aerodynamic and protect his auditory canal from the wind.
* He possesses a special membrane in his respiratory system enabling him to extract oxygen from the air at high velocities or altitudes.
* Ozone flies by flapping his wings, as a bird does. Though he generally flies below the height of clouds (6,500 feet), Ozone can reach a height of 10,000 feet with little effort. With severe strain he can reach the highest recorded altitude of a bird in flight (African geese at 29,000 feet above sea level), but he can only remain that high for several minutes. He can fly nonstop under his own power for an approximate maximum of twelve hours.
* His brain is smaller than a fox and he forgets things easily after a few minutes. He's also playful and silly, considering anybody a potential prey until proven otherwise.

==== Aatheus's period ====

In late 1999, a young college student, Aatheus, built a tiny online auction service as part of an experiment. Using the quite buggy [[wikipedia:EveryAuction|EveryAuction]] 1.01 program, he designed '''FurBid''', the first all-[[furry]] online auction site of its kind. The original purpose was to create a working server environment. His decision to build it around furry was more a matter of taste than it was an attempt to fill a gap in the community. The creation itself was relatively uneventful and on November 8, 1999 FurBid officially opened.

Shortly after opening it was seen by [[The Dragon De Monsyne]] at [http://www.transform.to/ Transform.to], who offered Aatheus hosting space.<ref>[http://www.furbid.ws/news.html FurBid News Page]</ref> On November 18, 1999 FurBid was moved to its new host (furrybid.transform.to), where it remained until January 27, 2001 when it was moved to Ezzi Net at the suggestion of [[Gushi]].

During that time FurBid suffered from many internal problems, including great deal of downtime caused by outside sources. Some of the many problems faced included script glitches, hard drive problems, a December 26, 2000 [[wikipedia:Denial-of-service_attack|DoS]] prompted by [[Somethingawful]] listing FurBid in its "Awful Site of the Day", and file corruption.

Perhaps the most significant problem was the announcement by Aatheus on December 9, 2000 of the acquisition of furbid.com and loss of the domain to [[Ragscoon]] of [[FurSale]] who stole it out from under Aatheus due to personal issues between the two and offered to sell it to him on January 20, 2001 for the price of $500.00. This event led to a long time rivalry between FurBid and FurSale.{{fact}}

Another significant issue was a complete crash in the summer of 2003 which brought the system down for over a month.

==== Ayukawataur's period ====

At [[Further Confusion 2003]], Aatheus mentioned to [[Ayukawataur]] his desire to find another administrator to take over FurBid. During this time she was experimenting with the EveryAuction software on her own pet project (the-abcb cafe). Her initial response was quite negative, claiming "You could not pay me enough to take over that [[Wikipedia:Kludge|kludge]]".

Aatheus continued his search amongst others he felt would be qualified until he again returned to Ayukawataur just shortly before Further Confusion 2004. They agreed to discuss the issue and at the con he revealed to her in private that he had not found an admin to take over and as such FurBid would be shut down in the summer when he left to pursue more college. She agreed to consider the problem.

After a lunch and gallery browsing meeting in Carmel by the Sea in Northern California, Ayukawataur agreed to take over the administration of FurBid. In February of 2004 she was appointed as Assistant Administrator. Despite her title she was acting the role of Admin. and was using the name Assistant Admin to give the community time to adjust to her presence.

This was not without its share of problems as many members of the community disagreed with her appointment. The drama which took place lasted quite some time and was mostly built around her being involved with a prominent furry artist [[Kacey Miyagami]] and claims that a conflict of interest would develop. This has not occurred.

It was revealed she was the administrator in late May of 2004, shortly after the revamp of the Discussion Board with a database driven system. Other projects she worked on during that time were a creation of a FAQ, tightening of rules and the ToS, a mascot contest, and a radical departure from the previous stances on [[bestiality]] and [[pedophilia]].

The opening of FurBid-SF was also not entirely smooth. There were numerous rewrites which took place over the period of many months after launch. To better streamline the code she drafted the skills of [[Ch'marr]] and Gushi.<ref>[http://ayukawataur.livejournal.com/9787.html Another FurBid-SF Update]</ref><ref>[http://community.livejournal.com/furbid/207783.html FurBid-SF back up]</ref> During this time she also moved the server from its residence at Ezzi Net to be one of the early systems in Gushi's Colo in Jersey.

Part of her plan included the first successful implementation of associated fees for any of the furry auction houses.

On November 13, 2007, Ayukawataur announced appointing [[Gushi]] as a new Assistant Administrator. His duties include primarily programming and debugging.

==Mass Account Suspension==
On February 17, 2007 Furbid's admin Ayukawataur mass suspended many accounts with no warning and no explanation to the affected users. Users who inquired about the reason for suspension were pointed to a URL to a posting on the Furbid website which was a dead link. Subsequently most of Furbid's users moved to [[Furbuy]].

On [[MUCK]]s, [[IRC]] and in other roleplay environments, some people maintain multiple characters-- often without acknowledging any connection between them, even when multiple characters owned by one person interact with a single friend. These alternate characters are termed "'''alts'''," an abreviation of "'''alt'''ernates" or "'''alt'''ernate character."

While alts are not limited to furries (they are also used in other fandoms' roleplay), neither is their use limited strictly to roleplay. Many furries have alts that represent different facets of their own personalities or different periods of their lives. In this way, multiple alts or past alts may be called a type of mental partitioning.

== Life Stage Alt ==
Some furries grow out of alts or transition into new alts when they reach a new stage in their life. While they may use those alts from previous stages in life with people they met during that time, for the most part those who use this alt process will tend to retain the current life stage alt until such time they feel it's time to move on. A life stage alt may be used as a coping mechanism to put past experiences behind and start anew.

== Alt By Association ==
Some furries will represent themselves as a particular species or character to people they met at a particular time in their lives because that was the alt they used when they met that friend and as such that alt is an aperture to the person behind the alt.

== Interest Separation Alt ==
For some people, a particular character represents a facet of their interest in others. For example, a person may have one alt that they use when they are interested in a particular fetish and another they use for casual roleplaying. In this way the person behind the alts is able to partition their interactions and keep separate the mental modes associated with those characters.

An alt used for separation of interests may also be used as an escape mechanism to allow a person who is aligned with a set of beliefs or system of religion to participate in roleplay activities that may be thought of as forbidden within the rationale of such a system.

== Sectarian Alt ==
A sectarian alt is a alt maintained by an individual so that they may be considered 'in' with a particular group of furries who identify as a group and may hold different practices or beliefs from other furries. Also, some sectarian alts are created in order to maintain relationships with others who have alts or fursonas involved with such groups. Some examples include [[skiltaire]], [[silkie]], [[otherkin]] and [[were]]. While these groups are not composed entirely of alts (some people have those species or groups as their primary alts), sectarian alts tend to have a high burnout factor with their owners abandoning them after the newness of being involved with the related group wears off.

== Stalker Alt ==
A stalker alt is created for the purpose of stalking or observing one or more people. A stalker alt may be created by someone who made a bad first impression with someone so that they can have another chance at introducing themselves and making a better impression. Stalker alts are also used for intelligence gathering. The alt will be sent into a social setting to see who is there without tipping off the group that the primary character is online. On mucks, IRC and other social contexts some users move stalker alts from room to room to see who is there in order to bypass the ability of characters to opt out of commands that allow one to see where they are, such as the "whereare" command on mucks or the "who" command on IRC. Once the stalker identifies the person or persons they are looking for they will deploy other alts to the respective rooms where those people are to interact with them.

Foxcub Radio is a [[Wikipedia:downtempo|downtempo]] radio station run by [[FoxMajik]].

Originally operated in 2008, it ran part time as a personal music stream on FoxMajik's personal computer. After some time it was moved to a dedicated Pentium III computer on a home Internet connection.

Currently Foxcub Radio is hosted on a [[Wikipedia:VMWare ESX|VMWare ESX]] hosted instance on a business class connection in Cupertino, California.

Foxcub Radio's programming includes soothing music and occasional public service announcements regarding public awareness matters from such groups as the The National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, the United States Fire Administration, the National Parks Conservation Association and the Peace Corps.

Foxcub Radio is currently seeking additional furry-related programming. Its administrator's intent is to provide a general, downtempo music station with additional furry programming such as daily shows and podcasts. Parties interested in providing programming should contact FoxMajik.

Foxcub Radio currently hosts from one to nine listeners with an average of two per day.

Foxcub Radio is not affiliated with nor endorsed by the babyfur named [[FoxCub]].
