{{Califur}}
'''CaliFur''' ('''CF''') is a [[convention]] that succeeded the first furry convention [[ConFurence]] as the annual furry event of [[Wikipedia:Southern California|Southern California]]. Califur is organized by [[FENEC Adventures]]. With a diverse audience, Califur provides just as diverse programming. Reoccurring events include: Pet Auction, Cabaret, Live DJ'ed dances, table top gaming and video gaming, Fursuit parade, P.A.N.T Panel, Fursuit Panels and Califur After Dark, a set of events with an adult 18+ attendance. Califur has also expanded its registration to include various price ranges for those under the age of 17 to give them a price break. This helps to establish Califur as a well rounded convention with something for all ages.

==Origin of FENEC and CaliFur==
FENEC ("Furries Enjoying the Natural Environments of California") was conceived by [[Alohawolf|Robert "Alohawolf" Johnson]], [[Dawn Britt]], and [[Dennis Carr]] with the initial idea of having a furry-themed campout. While riding home from the southern California [[FurBQ]], Dawn had commented to Dennis and his then wife, Karmin, about the lack of other camping events such as [[Feral!]] in Southern California. Dennis pointed this out while chatting on the [[FurNet (IRC)|Furnet]] IRC Network, and Robert took the lead in starting an organized event.

As the campout was being planned, additional staffers including [[Glen Wooten]], [[Zee|Zsanene "Zee" Stevens]], [[Trapa]], [[Drewkitty]] along with ConFurence co-founders [[Mark Merlino]] and [[Rod O'Riley]] were brought on board. With the demise of ConFurence in 2003, Mark and Robert expressed a desire to see a regional convention maintained in Southern California. The decision was made in early autumn of 2003 to plan a traditional hotel-based convention to succeed [[ConFurence 2003]] with [[Califur 0]] the following year. Thus the campout idea soon evolved into a hotel based convention instead. FENEC still retains its name despite this, as it is part of Califur's history.
{{CaliFur}}

==Origin of FENEC and CaliFur==

{{Califur}}

==Origin of FENEC and Califur==

==Origin of FENEC and Califur==

The '''6-2-1 rule''' is a [[convention]] guideline whose history is lost in the mist of [[science fiction]] fandom's past. The rule has been in use in the furry fandom since Confurence.

The rule mandates the following:

*'''6''' hours of sleep per night.
*'''2''' meals per day.
*'''1''' shower per day.

These numbers are just minimums; the intention is that people should feel free to exceed those numbers. The third part of the rule is to prevent [[con funk]].

==Parodies==
At [[Anthrocon 2007]], the [[Dorsai Irregulars]] proposed a new variation of this rule:<ref>[http://giza.livejournal.com/446556.html Anthrocon 2007 and the 6-2-1 Rule] - from [[Giza]]'s LiveJournal</ref>
* '''6''' miles walked per day.
* '''2''' snacks per day.
* '''1''' nap per day.
Dubious Tag Removal

I have removed the dubious tag from the Califur X posting as all of the information is posted on the Califur website regarding GOHs and Special guests. Links are below:
http://califur.com/guests-of-honor-goh/
http://califur.com/guests-of-honor-goh/special-guests/

[[User:SiriusKarma|SiriusKarma]]

I have removed the Patron and Sponsor Listings, I dont feel that they should be posted in a publicly indexible format unless you can contact each one of them and ask for permission, there is a reason Califur doesnt Publish this information on its webpage.
--[[User:Alohawolf|Alohawolf]] 12:31, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

:Was the list published in your conbook? If so, I'm going to have to disagree with the removal of them, because if it's okay to publish their names in the conbook, it should be okay to publish their names here. --[[User:Dmuth|Douglas Muth]] 12:49, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

:[http://www.califur.com/about.php Yes it does]. Indeed, I just found it by searching on Google.

:We've had some people remove their own names individually, and I don't see a problem with them doing that (I tend to adjust it so that it just has it as a HTML comment that is not displayed on the resulting page, e.g. <nowiki>[[Person 1]], <!-- [[Person 2]], -->, [[Person 3]]</nowiki>). However, if they supported a convention, I don't see why this shouldn't be mentioned unless they have a problem with it themselves. After all, they paid good money for that status. --[[User:GreenReaper|GreenReaper]]([[User talk:GreenReaper|talk]]) 19:59, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

::In that case, I must strongly object to the removal of patrons and sponsors from this page for the following reasons:
::# Their names were already published on Calfur's own website, as GreenReaper noted
::# I do not see any moral, ethical, or legal issues by reposting this issue here
::# I think that our listing of peoples' names in this regard should mirror our exclusion policy. If individuals do not wish to be listed, they can contact us individually and we will remove their names. I think it is a Bad Idea to not publish an entire list somply because a small number of people might object.

:: My 2 tuna. --[[User:Dmuth|Douglas Muth]] 21:35, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

At least for Califur.0 and Califur.1, it should stay offline as we never published it on our webpage, and we do retain copyright on the conbook, however that isnt where the issue lies, for Califur.0, and to a lesser extent Califur.1, the names were printed soley as Legal Names, due to human error, we are trying to determine how they ended up being listed on the webpage, because it ought not be.
--[[User:Alohawolf|Alohawolf]] 04:35, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

:Copyright covers expressions of ideas, not facts. A list of names is just factual data, unless it is arranged in a particularly novel manner, and is thus not subject to copyright. If they were, it would be illegal to write that list of names for any other purposes, which is obvious not the case. On the other hand, copying a recipe from a recipe book (whether including the list or not) would be an infringing act, as it is an expression of the recipe, which is an idea.

:I agree that it would be unfortunate if legal names were used when that was not the intention. Thanks for adding back the fandom names of those sponsoring Califur 2. --[[User:GreenReaper|GreenReaper]]([[User talk:GreenReaper|talk]]) 05:21, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

::I need to note, it has been taken off the Califur Page until we can determine Status.. however, I have edited the list I reposted enough, that it can stay on the page.. and hopefully within a few days, they will match. --[[User:Alohawolf|Alohawolf]] 06:47, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

:::The list on the Webpage, and the list on the Wikipage for Califur.2 should match now, I would rather the names for Califur.0 and Califur.1 remain offline, due to the difficulty in replacing the fan names with real names.
--[[User:Alohawolf|Alohawolf]] 03:06, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

== Remove Instance Paragraphs ==

I would propose moving the history items for each convention year off this page, integrating any missing information into the specific instance pages already linked from this one, and then renaming the Origins section to History to more generally describe the convention as a whole. [[User:BlueOtter|BlueOtter]] 11:16, 8 June 2012 (EDT)
:Making those changes would fit the usual structure. -- [[User:Sine|Sine]] 12:44, 8 June 2012 (EDT)

I had attempted to do this editing and remove the instance paragraphs, but was denied. I would like access to be able to reformat this page a bit as it needs it.[[User:SiriusKarma|SiriusKarma]]
SiriusKarma//en.wikifur.com/wiki/CalifurCalifur2014-06-03T18:06:04Z
SiriusKarma: Removal of the dubious tag since all of this information is posted on Califur's website. {{Califur}}
'''Califur''' ('''CF''') is a [[convention]] that succeeded the long-running [[ConFurence]] as the annual furry event of [[Wikipedia:Southern California|Southern California]].

==Origin of FENEC and Califur==

{{Califur}}
'''Califur''' ('''CF''') is a [[convention]] that succeeded the long-running [[ConFurence]] as the annual furry event of [[Wikipedia:Southern California|Southern California]].

==Origin of FENEC and Califur==

There were five Guests of Honor: [[2, The Ranting Gryphon]], [[Foxxfire]], [[Topfox]], [[Cataroo]], and [[Jefferson P. Swycaffer]]. Though original expectations were modest, this inaugural dry run had an unexpected 326 attendees, over five times that of [[Confurence 0]].
He was previously an administrator for [[Fur Affinity]].

==History==

Bengaley Summercat claims to have been a furry since he was a little kid, but was not introduced to the Furry Fandom until the Fall of 1999, when a friend he met at highschool brought him into the [[Star Fox]] fandom. Bengaley had already created the name Bengaley based on the character Ben Gali from Thundercats, and simply reused the name as his fursona.

Summercat continued to lurk around the edges of the Furry community until 2003, when he attended the furry Christmas party held at the [[The Prancing Skiltaire]] with close friend, [[Vorenth]]. He then attended the last Rick's Cafe party, and has continued to show up at the PS parties for the last four years. Since 2003, Bengaley has further involved himself in the local furry community, and has stated a goal to further the cause of Unporn.

== [[Califur]] ==

In 2006, Summercat attended his first Furry convention, Califur II, where he started his sketchbook (see below.) Afterwards, due to a case of mistaken identity by [[Kurt Miller]], he was volunteered onto Califur's staff to assist with Electronic Gaming for Califur III, and has since become official for Califur IV.

== [[Rowrbrazzle]] ==

At Califur III, Bengaley was introduced to Rowrbrazzle, and became a member of that publication. He's has expressed his elation at being able to join, as the publication was known to him as to have been central in assisting the start of the furry fandom, as well as being older than he is.

== Bengaley's Sketchbooks ==

A tradition started at Califur II, Summercat's sketchbooks are filled with art from a dizzying variety of sources, with a large portion of which from [http://www.furaffinity.net/user/Hobbpanda Hobbpanda], another local furry. Summercat has set two rules for any picture he begs from artists, that the artist draw something, and sign it.

The first Sketchbook runs from Califur II (Pirates of the Furry Main), and was filled at Further Confusion 08 (The Fur East).

The second sketchbook has not yet been started, although it may be started at the next Califur (4 - Steampunk).

He was previously an administrator for [[Fur Affinity]].

==History==

== [[Califur]] ==

== [[Rowrbrazzle]] ==

At Califur III, Bengaley was introduced to Rowrbrazzle, and became a member of that publication. He's has expressed his elation at being able to join, as the publication was known to him as to have been central in assisting the start of the furry fandom, as well as being older than he is.

== Bengaley's Sketchbooks ==

T.J.. "Pandora" Teer also known as "Auntie Pan Pan" or "Pan Pan" of [[Orange County]], [[California]] is the Theatrical Lead for Califur's [[Cabaret Fur Le Dance]]. Pan Pan started going to furry conventions and events in 1993 and made [[ConFurence 4]] her first furry [[convention]]. A writer and improv master by trade, she loved the environment of the Cabaret and became a performer. This later lead to Pan Pan becoming [[Califur]] Theatrical staff and finally Lead.

==Fursona ==

Pan Pan's fursona is a gothic vampire [[red panda]]. This is most likely due to her cross fandom involvement and carries parts of each of her favored sub cultures. She decided on a red panda because of their dramatic markings, something that very much spoke to her as a fan of goth and [[vampire]] fandoms. Pan Pan is usually shown in gothic or vampire attire.

==Cross Fandom Involvement ==

Pan Pan has been a part of many sub cultures, and calls many of them home. She became friends with [[Raven Tremblay]] via Goth and Vampire fandoms. Pan Pan in turn dragged [[Raven Tremblay]] to his first furry convention since she needed some help with music for the con. She has been a part of the [[California]] Renaissance Faire community for over 25 years, and attends the Renaissance Faire yearly to play. Pan Pan loves the arts, and can be found exploring the different Orange County art walks.

==Hobbies ==

As a fiber artist Pan Pan enjoys spinning wool, knitting and needle felting in her spare time. She is also well known for her tarot and tea leaf readings. She attends many conventions and can even be seen as a browncoat on occasion. She plays the ukelele and sings at many open mike nights in the Orange County area. She considers herself a bohemian goth.
