== Location ==
The LA Fur meets are held at the Old Zoo in [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Griffith_Park Griffith Park] which can be reached from a small trail from the Merry Go Round. It is extremely vital for new members to print out and follow the detailed directions given by the LA Furs group because many people get lost without it.

== Rules ==
The LA Fur group does not officially provide food or water, but usually has a good amount of food thanks to the generous hearts of their members. Guests of the LA Fur group are only asked to bring food and water for themselves (to every meet) but are encouraged to bring extra to share with.

Members are also asked to dressed in a family-friendly way and that all members under the age of 15 are accompanied by an adult. Alcohol is also not allowed since the meet is held on state property.

==History==

The initial website was an idea and creation of Southern California [[furry]], Crassus. It came online in 2001, administered by Dark Fox, followed later by a [[Yahoo! group]] and mailing list created by [[Alias Foxx]], and a [[LiveJournal]] community created and maintained by [[Space Wolf]].

Initially called the '''Southern California Furry Web Portal''', it was changed in 2003 to the simpler "SoCalFurs" name, along with the addition of its present [[mascot]], '''Tamerlaine''', drawn by [[female]] [[furry artist]], [[Dustmeat]] (not to be confused with [[Dume]], a temporary mascot designed by artist [[Jonas]] for the [[Fur-B-Q]] flyers, which later started on a [[webcomic]] of the same name.) Both Tamerlaine and Dume are copyrighted to their respective artists.

Dark Fox remained the site's administrator until 2006, when he handed the reins to Stego S. Aurus for personal reasons.

The site contains a links to the SoCalFurs' Yahoo! Group, notice of upcoming events, and archives of previous ones, a "[[Furry]] database" of "Who's Who" on SoCalFurs", "SoCal hot spots" (i.e. the best type of gathering places for any future furry event), a links page, SoCalFurs notices boards, and a Fur-B-Q update page.

A #socalfurry [[IRC]] channel is also hosted on [[Anthrochat]], and on [[FurNet (IRC)|FurNet]].
