List Order
Now that "online conventions" are no longer a new concept, it is probably about time we collectively figure out how this list should be presented. It's currently just lumping together a couple of very distinct concepts (i.e. VRChat conventions and YouTube streams) into a weird mishmash of nonsensical numbers. There should be an effort made to come up with some kind of rhyme and reason for it. There are a lot of distinct elements at play behind many of these events, such as Furality mainly being in Virtual Reality, operating like a in-person convention (requiring a membership,) and events that just happened in a free-to-join Discord server.

Perhaps either this concept needs to be split, with a new category created for "Virtual Reality Conventions", or just defining these events under the "Online Convention" banner based on their primary platform and purpose. VR events that collect registrations as a in-person con would, and streaming events that can only report "page views" (which are largely arbitrary, and based on the definition of a "view" on their chosen platform) are different things, and should be treated as such.

List of online furry conventions by attendance

SimonFox: Moving Megaplex Online as the list seems to make more sense this way.

The following is a list of online furry conventions from around the world, listed by officially announced attendance figures from the most recent year available. Each convention is listed only once. There is also a list of in-person furry conventions by attendance.

Anthrocon 2021

2022-06-27T21:58:11Z

SimonFox: Information about AnthrocOnline

Anthrocon
Anthrocon 2021 was to be the 24th annual Anthrocon furry convention. It was supposed to be held on the weekend of July 1-4, 2021, at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Anthrocon 2021 was postponed to June 30 to July 3rd, 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic still lingering in the United States.

The convention's theme was going to be "Aesop's Fables", but the theme was planned to be carried over to Anthrocon 2022. A virtual convention was held in it's place.

Anthrocon Online
As a replacement for the physical convention, Anthrocon announced a virtual convention and began raising funds for "something truly special" in April. The virtual convention was dubbed AnthrocOnline (or Anthrocon Online)

In early June of 2021, members of the production crew began teasing an in-person film shoot that was taking place in Pittsburgh at the Waterfront Plaza of the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.

On July 2nd, AnthrocOnline officially kicked off, with Uncle Kage appearing in an Opening Ceremonies video partially shot in the Westin Convention Center Pittsburgh, Anthrocon's primary hotel. Panels and meetups were also held on Google Meet.

Through the weekend, many of Anthrocon's staple events were shown, filmed on-location around Pittsburgh, including a performance by Pepper Coyote and Fox Amoore (who appeared remotely from his home in Scotland), and Uncle Kage's Story Hour filmed on-location in Pizza Parma/Fernando's Cafe. In addition to the recorded content, live events also took place from the Astrocasters studio in Virginia, including the Charity Auction and Closing Ceremonies.

The videos recorded on-location in Pittsburgh were released in High Dynamic Range (HDR) 4K, marking the first time a major furry convention had main events broadcast in the 4K format.

Statement from Anthrocon staff
"We had high hopes but at this point, it looks like that we will not be able to safely hold the convention. As such we have come to the unfortunate conclusion that the convention will be canceled this year.

For those of you who have deferred memberships or dealerships from 2020, those deferrals will carry over to 2022, as will hotel rooms won at the charity auction. Emails with the coupon codes for Anthrocon 2022 will be sent out at a later date.

Those who were purchasing memberships for this year need not do anything. Those memberships will be canceled and since no payments were processed so there are no refunds that need to be issued.

We are planning a virtual convention for this year. Information regarding the virtual convention will follow shortly.

Plans are proceeding for the in-person convention for 2022 which will take place June 30th - July 3rd. We plan to carry over the theme once again (Aesop's Fables).

We are looking forward to Anthrocon's return in 2022 and are excitedly anticipating seeing everyone in person and making the return of Anthrocon 2022 the best Anthrocon ever."

On April 27, 2020, it was announced that Anthrocon 2020 was canceled in response to the COVID-19 novel coronavirus pandemic.

Virtual Anthrocon
In late June, Anthrocon board members decided to host an impromptu online version of the convention dubbed "Virtual AnthroCon". They hosted key events such as ceremonies, Uncle Kage's Story Hour, and annual fursuit dance competition through their own livestreaming platform at https://anthrocon.tv from July 3-5. VRChat world creator, Firr had re-created the David L. Lawrence Convention Center's 'Spirit of Pittsburgh' ballroom weeks prior to the livestream. Anthrocon agreed to make the VRChat world as an official gathering space for attendees over the weekend. There was no registration fee for the livestream, or interacting with the virtual ballroom world.

The production of the live stream was handled by two of Anthrocon's video equipment vendors, Astrocasters and DC Steadicam Inc. Production control was operated out of Astrocasters' Virginia warehouse, and was produced by FreezeFrame (who also served as the Emcee,) Protocollie, and Veyote. Many other members of Anthrocon's production staff supported the live broadcasts, both on-site and remotely. TimeSuppression served as Technical Director, Nieto as Audio Engineer, Paradox Wolf was the on-site CG Operator while Simon Fox was the Graphic Artist, working remotely from his home in California.

According to stats released by Firr after the virtual convention ended, 6,136 unique visitors entered the Virtual Anthrocon VRChat world, which would have made it the third highest-attended convention, behind Anthrocon 2019 and ahead of Biggest Little Fur Con 2019. Two members of the production staff fursuited through the production control room and took a photo outdoors, claiming it was the "fastest Fursuit Parade and fursuit photo ever."
