Hy00man

2006-01-09T12:18:43Z

Shippa: I've seen "hyoomin" twice, so I'm adding it here.

'''Hy00man''' (also known as '''Hooman''', '''Hy00men''', '''Hyoomin''', '''Hyoomun''', '''Hyuman''', '''Hyuuman''', '''HEW-man''' and '''Hewmyn''') is a double meaning word, both friendly and derogatory, used by both [[Furries]] and [[Anti-furries]].

== Meanings ==
Among ''anti-furries'', this term is generally an expression of solidarity or group identification.

Among ''furries'', "hooman" is a term used (more often in the Russian furry community, particularly this spelling) for derogatory reference to an individual (most often, of a [[human]] race), to whom one or more items of the following list applies:

* [[Wikipedia:Superiority complex|Superiority complex]];
* [[Wikipedia:Intolerance|Intolerance]];
* [[Wikipedia:Xenophobia|Xenophobia]];
* [[Wikipedia:Racism|Racism]], [[Wikipedia:Sexism|sexism]], [[Wikipedia:specieism|specieism]] or other [[Wikipedia:prejudice|prejudices]];
* [[Wikipedia:Double standard|Double standards]];
* Inability or unwillingness to cooperate/coexist in a group of individuals;
* [[Wikipedia:Egoism|Egoism]] and/or [[Wikipedia:selfishness|selfishness]];
* Ecological unawareness;
* [[Wikipedia:Ignorance|Ignorance]];
* Jumping to conclusions;
* Blind trust to mass media;
* Lack of personal opinion and/or inability to construct one;
* Resource [[Wikipedia:gluttony|gluttony]];
* [[Wikipedia:Consumerism|Consumerism]];
* Inability to learn from the past;
* Inability to follow an argument through to its logical construction.

It should be noted that the term as an insult characterises personality traits and in no way involves physical parameters of the individual described.

== Colloquial usage ==
For furries, the term can be used to:
*Describe a person as being as such: ''"Tom is a [[Scalie]], Jenny is a [[Were]], and Richard is a Hy00man."''
*Describe a friendly [[mundane]]: ''"This my Hy00man friend jack, an artist." "I brought my Hy00man brother to the [[Furmeet]]."''
*Demean a mundane: ''"those uncaring Hy00men and their duck/wolf/deer hunts."''
*Insult a mundane: ''"Fucking Hy00man!, this a Furries only party!."''

For Anti-furries, the term can be used to:
*Describe themselves: ''"Oh, my. Furries are talking about us poor Hy00men in AFF."''
*Describe a "traitor": ''"why the @#$&* is that Hy00man drawing [[furry art]]?."''
*Describe the presence of a mundane character in a furry drawing: ''"There's a Hy00man in that furry comic!."''
*Demean a [[furry artist]]: ''"Ah!, she can't draw Hy00man to save her life!."''

There are many more examples, but these are enough to demonstrate the ability of the word to be used by both sides to convey the multiplicity of designations and meanings that it can convey on the fandom.

Shippa: A typo in "Daisy the kangaroo".

'''Yiffer Fox''', whose [[RL]] identity is kept secret, is a well-known [[furry artist|artist]]. Much of his art is intended for mature/adult audiences. He has his own gallery site, [[Yiffer's Dome]], and maintains smaller archives in other places.

His subject matter tends towards 'curvy' females, whether well-endowed, muscular, or [[zaftig]]. His most popular characters include [[Daisy the kangaroo]] (an adventurer), [[Rosie]] (a [[german shepard]] cop), and [[Biggie]] (an extremely over-endowed [[vixen]]).

WikiFur:Wikifurries by language spoken

2005-11-14T16:55:35Z

Shippa: Shippa's languages

I ([[User:Almafeta|Almafeta]]) am creating this page as part of my curiosity... I'm trying to see what languages various furries speak. If you'd put yourself in the listing where appropriate, or add a new language for any language you speak that's not mentioned below, I'd be thankful.

The categories are as on Wikipedia: 'beginner' (can hold a conversation if you don't mind looking bad), 'intermediate' (can hold a conversation if they don't use too many idioms), 'advanced' (can hold a conversation), and 'native' or 'near-native' (can hold a conversation in ways that make us look bad, write poetry, think in the language, etc.).

Of course, if I *really* wanted to be complete, I'd try to get this page done up in as many languages as possible, to try to include the non-english speakers... ^^;

'''Scroll down for the list of people, and for categories of people.'''

Know about someone? Write a page and add it to this category! In general, it is best to use the name by which people go in the community - either a nickname or their real name. Be as specific as possible, to avoid nickname collisions.

If both are publicly used, write the nickname and use a redirect (<nowiki>#REDIRECT [[NickName]]</nowiki> on its own) to point the real name to it.

It's probably not a good idea to link a real name to a person that only goes by their nickname, even if you know it. Some people prefer to be anonymous - please respect that! :-)

If people fit in a subcategory like [[:Category:Artists|Artists]], please put them in the People category ''and'' the subcategory, so we can have a complete list of people. This probably shouldn't apply to lower-down layers, so if someone is well known as a [[:Category:Comic artists|comic artist]], don't put them in Artists as well.
