Sema JayHawk (born February 27, 1986), better known as SemJay, is an American Pit Bull Terrier/Siberian Husky mix originally from the Chicagoland area, now living in Tempe, Arizona with her boyfriend Taren Nauxen. Sema is a veterinary technician and has worked in various animal hospitals since she was 15 years old. She considers the dog her totem animal. She is also a cartoonist; her artwork can be found on her website, Old Stinky Dog Productions, TLKFAA, and Fur Affinity. She is also an avid fursuiter and has created several fursuits with her boyfriend. She is also the moderator of the LiveJournal communities conFURvatives and K9furs.

Sema currently has two dogs, Annee (a 3-year-old female Cardigan Corgi), and Qoppa (a 1-year-old female American Pit Bull Terrier). Annee is Sema's Emotional Support Service Dog and has been known to attend furry events along with Sema. Sema strongly opposes Breed Specific Legislation (BSL) and has a soft spot for "bully breeds", to the extent of demonstrating at conventions by holding up signs or wearing a muzzle to protest BSL.
Involvment with the Lake Area Furry Friends (LAFF)
Before she moved to Arizona, Sema was an active member of the Lake Area Furry Friends (LAFF). She created and runs their group on Second Life where she is known as Semwoofer Paz. She is also the creator of SliderCon, a monthly trip to a local White Castle (now run by her good friend, Blazger). In 2006, Sema helped run the 2006/07 LAFF New Years Eve Party in Gurnee, IL.

AZFur
Since moving to Arizona, Sema has made a gallant effort to get the Phoenix area Furries together. In September of 2007 she was able to get around 30 of them to attend a bowling/dinner meet and plans on many more events in the near future.

Conventions
As soon as she graduated high school, Sema started attending as many conventions as she could, including Midwest Furfest (in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007) and Anthrocon (in 2005, 2006, 2007). At Midwest FurFest 2006, Sema, along with Dronon, ran the "Whose Lion is it Anyway" panel, based on the improv comedy TV shows "Whose Line is it Anyway?". Due to popular demand, the panel was held again at MFF 07 and was bigger than last year, but since Dronon was unable to make it, Alkali was Sema's co-host. She also helped host a few fursuit construction panels and has participated in the Furry Variety Show. She plans to attend MFF 2008, FC 2008, AC 2008 as well as Phoenix Furness 2009.

*SemJay, the Pit Bull/Husky mix, is the fursona Sema associates herself with the most. The Pit Bull and the Husky represent different aspects of her dog totem. SemJay is short for Sema JayHawk - the JayHawk being Sema's middle school mascot. The brown marking on her left side is often mistaken for a star but it is infact a jet-shape. Sema's middle school mascot was the Jets before it was changed to the JayHawks, and since Sema was in middle school when SemJay was created, she decided to incorporate both mascots into her fursona. Fursuit head by Lacy
*Outlander Sema is a vengeful lioness who Sema now looks to as an "anti-totem". This lioness was Sema's fursona during high school and she is also the main character of the fan fiction "Never Trust a Pridelander". Sema, meaning "Narrate" or "Story Teller" in Swahili, was first sighted in 1998 on The Lion King Fan-Art Archive and the site's original forums. In 2003, Sema JayHawk drifted away from the TLK online fan-base and on to more canine things. It was at that time that SemJay replaced Sema as their creator's main fursona. Fursuit head by White Wolf
*Horatio Shields is Sema's third fursona. He is a homosexual male American Pit Bull Terrier/American Staffordshire Terrier. He is known for his constantly yiffy nature and loving personality. Correct to popular belief - Horatio is named after Horatio in William Shakesphere's Hamlet The reason for this was because Sema wanted to create a pit bull character who was a loyal friend instead of the stereotypical tough guy. Shakesphere's Horatio character is a loyal friend to Hamlet and even offers to drink poison when Hamlet is dying at the end of the play. Hamlet tells him not to drink the poison, but instead - make sure everything is put right in Denmark and to tell everyone the true story of what happened that day. That is just what Horatio the Pit Bull was created for - to tell the true story about how Pit Bulls really are. Horatio's last name, Shields, also means "Loyal Protector". I see rather a lot of bullet-points. My understanding is that article text should be complete prose sentences in articles, in standard paragraph form. -- Sine 06:48, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Reason for protection
This article is being subject to a bit of an edit war, so it has been anon-locked for the time being. Simba B 03:55, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
:I wouldn't exactly call two vandal edits and reversions made over two days an edit war. I'd recommend un-protecting the page and simply reverting any irrelevant links. -- JaeSharp 04:08, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

:The edit war is between various people from Encylcopedia Dramatica and Kendricks Redtail who reverts their adding of a link to the Encyclopedia Dramatica biography on him. The odd thing is that most Wikifur biographies seem very happy to have links to the person's ED biography and sometimes they're even used in reference sections. Odder still is suddenly this article cannot have links to it's dramapedia bio. All the encyclopedia dramatica biographies are similar in offensiveness. Deafleas 04:15, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

::Please cite a biographical entry on wikifur where encyclopedia dramatica is linked without exceptional note about the nature of its content or as a source of factual information as I can not find one. Personally I don't find ED to be a useful reference for verifiable facts about individuals -- especially in the case where such information is potentially defamatory. WikiFur, in general, has no problem with libelous information, assuming that we can provide evidence that we acted in good faith regarding investigation of the truth of said information for our defense (see Sibe for a good example). ED does not provide that level of proof and as we are not talking about ED directly, links to ED are irrelevant on this page and should be removed. -- JaeSharp 04:31, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

:::"The odd thing is that most Wikifur biographies seem very happy to have links to the person's ED biography",... Whatever the case, the person's whose entry belongs to does not wish to have that link included, and whoever keeps reediting back in seems more interested in creating "Teh Drama" than offer valid alternate points of information.

:::Tl;dr version: Article's user does not want that ED link added to his entry Spirou 05:41, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

:::: I thought people couldn't "own" articles o_O --Sema JayHawk 02:23, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

:::You can check through here and see the links. http://furry.wikia.com/wiki/Special:Linksearch?title=Special%3ALinksearch&target=*.tinyurl.com&namespace= The tinyurl are either to the "fursuit database" or to ED. Deafleas 14:29, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

::::Essentially, what Spirou said. In general links to ED articles are not encouraged, becuase they do not attempt to give an balanced or attributed individual point of view, but a collective work that is deliberately slanted towards the emphasis of drama. That is what that site is all about. Usually it is more appropriate to reference the actual sources, rather than link to ED's editorializing.

::::If there is a link to ED on a WikiFur article, then there had better be a good reason for it, and WikiFur's regular contributors should agree with that reason. If not, the subject may remove it if they wish, since by definition most ED articles contain personal information. The fact that some people have not done so (yet) does not mean that they or others cannot. --GreenReaper(talk) 21:27, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
SemaJayHawk//en.wikifur.com/wiki/Sema_JayHawkSema JayHawk2007-10-03T20:07:47Z
SemaJayHawk: a lot of things needed updating..

Pit Bull is a term used to describe several breeds of dogs with similar physical characteristics, including the American Pit Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Bulldog and the American Staffordshire Terrier. Pit Bulls have even been confused for Labrador Retrievers (as well as the other way around) because both breeds have similar large, square heads. Pit Bulls are often a target of Breed Specific Legislation, or legislation that wants to ban or limit ownership of any breed deemed dangerous. This is due to the dog's reputation for unprovoked assault, although in many cases, the attacks were either provoked (by either physical abuse or an invasion (perceived or not) of territory) or weren't even committed by actual pit bulls. There is much debate over whether or not the breed is actually dangerous or if their owners are the ones to blame.
Pit Bulls in Furry
Pit Bulls as characters are not as common in the furry fandom as more common breeds, such as the Siberian Husky. Players of Pit Bulls tend to be resilient and driven, but present a more playful outside, with a strong desire to please people. However, if they feel threatened or abused or their territory encroached, like any other dog breed, they can become defensive. Pit Bulls are often a common theme for young African Americans, such as Mooty Moo, who associate the breed with its hip hop and urban image of toughness. People who know the breed outside of its stereotypes tend to pick the Pit Bull as a fursona because of its strength, loyalty, loving nature and even because they can relate to the breed being misunderstood.

A Chicago based Pit Bull rescue called Furry Friends Foundation was the charity for Midwest Furfest 2004. The foundation brought a few of its dogs to the convention and received over $7,000 in donations from the con. The shelter had seen its highest adoption rate ever in June 2006 when, in August of 2006, they announced that they were being forced to close their doors unexpectedly for reasons known only to the trustees.

The Anthrocon 2007 charity, Animal Friends, brought several adoptable animals to the convention, including a small female Pit Bull named Kachina.
SliderCon is a monthly trip started and organized monthly by Sema JayHawk to White Castle that usually follows Lake Area Furry Friends bowling events.

SliderCon is not exclusive to the LAFF group. There is always one held during Midwest Furfest and everyone, even non-LAFFurs, is welcome to attend.

History
SliderCon started in March of 2005 when the Denny's that the LAFF Group would usually go to after bowling told them they would have to wait two hours just to get a table. Sema decided that she didn't want to wait and went to White Castle instead.

In the following months, SliderCon gained popularity as the "After Bowling Event" and on average has 15-35 attendees. In April 2007, SliderCon celebrated its two year anniversary, making it the longest running after-bowling event. The anniversary is held in April and not March because in September 2005 a SliderCon did not take place.

Virtual SliderCon
In late December of 2006, Sema decided to recreate SliderCon on Second Life. Being the founder of both SliderCon and the Second Life LAFF group, she decided that this place would be LAFF's official Second Life headquarters.

The Second Life's SliderCon currently sits on a 1024sm plot of land in the sim of Osondoson and doubles as Sema's Second Life home. The castle is still under construction, but in the future, users will be able to buy bags of Slyders, Crave Cases and Crave Crates.

__TOC__

Taren was born on June 25, 1985, and lives in Rockford, Illinois. He is currently a student at Northern Illinois University, studying computer science. He is expected to graduate in May 2007 and plans to continue on to graduate school.

Taren's character is a golden western non-anthro dragon, most notable for his green eyes, and white horns but black claws. Taren has other dragon characters, but he doesn't mention them much. Taren also has several non-dragon characters that are strictly for fursuiting.

Taren has been involved with furry since around MFF 2004, and is an active member of Lake Area Furry Friends.

Hobbies
Even before joining the furry fandom, Taren was active in the DDR/Bemani community. After picking up DDR in May 2002, he also plays In The Groove, beatmania IIDX and Pump it Up on a regular basis. He has combined his passion for DDR and furry by organizing and executing the DDR tournaments at Midwest Furfest since 2005.

While others have sketchbooks filled with drawings of characters, Taren has several folders and notebooks filled with mathematical computations and equations.

Taren has been involved in organized bowling leagues since he was seven years old, including four years on his high school varsity team. In that time he has bowled two YABA-sanctioned 300 games and one 299 game. His highest sanctioned series is a 748, with a 756 unsanctioned. He is known to draw from this background while bowling with a full fursuit.

Since September 2005, Taren has been involved in fursuit creation. He specializes in sewing tails, especially long dragon tails, and fleece hats.

In June 2006 at Anthrocon 2006, he and Sema JayHawk debuted the furry fandom's first siamese fursuit, Snuggles Rotterdobe, a combination of a Rottweiler and a Doberman. Currently, he and Sema JayHawk work together to build fursuits.

Origins
Taren was originally heavily involved with the otherkin community, specifically dragonkin. He was not involved with the group alt.fan.dragons, claiming they weren't being "serious enough", a very stereotypical viewpoint held by many otherkin; instead, he was involved with the site Draconic, becoming a moderator at one point. After six years, he found out about the local furry organization, Lake Area Furry Friends, and decided to join. However, he still retains his spiritual nature, but tends not to discuss it openly.

*Taren has a LiveJournal that he writes in on a regular basis.
*His DDR-simulation files can be found at his personal website.
*Taren possesses some of the (arguably) longest tails in the furry fandom, ranging in length from just over 10 feet, to well over 14 feet in length.
*Taren is the driving force behind Rotterdam Techno, his personal site for fursuit and accessory making.
*Taren's high-score handle on video games, and occasional DJ alias is "NAUX", which is commonly mispronounced "knocks". The correct pronunciation is "nawh", similar to word "gnaw". The 'h' stands for a sound not found in the English language, but is similar to the Spanish "j" or the German "ch".

SliderCon is a monthly trip to White Castle that usually follows Lake Area Furry Friends bowling events. Though it was the people who supported the idea to make it so great, Sema JayHawk was the first to come up the idea, and is the one to organize the event each month. SliderCon started in March of 2005 when the Denny's that the LAFF Group would usually go to after bowling told them they would have to wait two hours just to get a table. Sema decided that she didn't want to wait and went to White Castle instead. In the following months, SliderCon gained popularity as the "After Bowling Event" and to this day is one of two choices for post-bowling entertainment.
