Because the English WikiFur and several other languages moved from Wikia to its own server, while others were created on the server to start with, each language has its own user database. You have to register a separate account. :Both of those are technically feasible, but the first would require writing a bot script and assumes they are the same person, while I'm not sure the second is a good idea in general. The subject has come up at [[wikipedia:Talk:Fursuit#Explanation of edits undone|Wikiepdia's fursuit article]], but I'm a rather poor debater, and feel my opinion is pretty closed-minded. My opinion is that a fursuit is only a fursuit if associated with furry, otherwise, it's an animal or mascot costume. However, I know that some feel an animal costume is a fursuit, and the two are synonymous. I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on this. Also, whenever I try to edit a section or add a new section, the wiki tries to replace the entire text with the section. Any thoughts on why this is? The only difference between the newest version and the older one (which I used on my PC) is that this allows me to edit, as long as I do not scroll down the page, whereas the older would simply lock up my computer if I even went to an edit page. The only way I am able to edit on this laptop I often use is by typing without scrolling too much, and then clicking the "Changes" tab, where it allows me to scroll down to click save. After a few years of it being there, I suddenly found a user "Spirou" putting my Monoceros page up for deletion. When I undid his edit and asked why, he deleted it in its entirety and replaced it with a 'redirect'.

Just curious why I was singled out. Or are all http://en.wikifur.com/wiki/Category:Fictional_species pages due to to be similarly deleted/redirected if any single WikiFur editor decides that a 'custom species' isn't to his or her liking? If you're nuking all of them, then no worries, I understand. But if it's just this page, I'd really like to know why.

There are multiple monoceri played online, and yes, I've referred others (esp. on SpheresMU*) to that page for reference. Just because no others of them are WikiFur members with their own page yet doesn't mean that the fictional species entry for monoceri should be deleted. Well, I talked to him. Nothing was really accomplished, however. He accused me of attacking him when I was merely asking why he wanted the section removed, which he didn't give a clear answer to. He said he didn't want people googling his name to find out about FA, so I suggested not indexing it, which you've apparently done. However, he then said it was pointless to have the article at all if Google can't find it, to which the only solution is personal exclusion, but he didn't want that either. Then he ''did'' want it. He seemed to have changed his mind again by the ''end'' of the discussion, and said the information was inaccurate. I advised him to correct it, then threatened to blank it immediately after. All the while making passive aggressive insults and threatening to tattle on me to you for "bringing drama" and telling me I'm lucky he didn't have me banned, despite having done nothing wronf. In fact, I was more polite than usual. Also, you apparently "told him about me" but I don't know what you said. All in all, it only managed to shave a few years off my lifespan, because I still don't know what he wants or what happened. That's actually a very good point - it seems to be a UKFur issue. If you go here : http://forum.ukfur.org/forum/86-ukfur-events/, and look at the RBW forum 'last updated' thing on the right, it (currently) says 124 topics, but the forum itself is only showing 3 pinned topics.... I've PM'd the admins about it and I'm waiting on the response. In the meantime, you can search the UKFur boards, using "RBW boat party" (minus the quotes) as search criteria, and the article is (currently) the 4th one down. The actual comment from Miyabi (aka sneppid) is post #19 and reads as follows:

Hey Green, We've all been through this before. dan skunk is reversing edits on the page, after I removed the "see other/danskunk" and he placed it back. With me removing again. As a director of the convention and concom, speaking with others on said places. We do not wish his wikifur linked from our page article. He has mention in the article and that is enough, he has and still continues to cause problems for us, including many threatening e-mails sent to myself and other directors of the convention in the last few months. We would appreciate if he was blocked from editing our page, or our page was locked from edits, except from anyone of the directors. Scani, Myself, Blindsight, Pakesh or Arctic. At the least I'd like dan skunk to be prevented from editing our page. We don't need more issues then we already have with him and his problems.

:Perhaps it's poor form for me to interject on user talk pages, but I noticed this change had felt compelled to jump in because you're asking for administrative lockdowns on this article. Generally, I feel it is not appropriate policy for pages to be locked down to a whitelist of official authors who can contribute. I help run a convention, so I have a similar perspective about public perceptions and controlling impressions. We do this through our convention website, and I think that's the appropriate place for controlled messages and positive promotional text. Our event, like yours, has had a turbulent past that got us to where we are today, and while history isn't always positive or engendering of those presently organizing an event, convention, website, etc., it's an important part of the history of the event, but also, often for the regional fandom at large. If items are added which are true facts, written in a NPOV, and are referenced according to standard, even if they cast an event in a contentious or less than positive light, they're part of a total perspective an encyclopedic article deserves. I noticed the tremendous amount of edits/reverts/reedits/talk page notes that have been going on about your event, and I can't find evidence that Dan is "trolling" in any usual sense, though I certainly understand how you might wish him to not publish his edits as associated with your event. However, I think to be true to it's intended form, that's a concession we have to allow to keep Wikifur credible and in a long-term sense, truly useful. I don't believe anyone should be granted a privileged status as to what an article should say because they are elected or appointed to organize the subject matter being discussed. At the very least, I would recommend that if Dan puts up something you find untruthful, the references be questioned and researched by uninvolved parties, and consensus is reached before edits/reverts are made. Until that happens, even if you were exclusive granted access to maintain the article, it would no longer be credible, it would simply be promotional without community consensus and involvement. It appears that you provided specific thumbnails for the article on the Babysitting Cream game. However, one of the thumbnails was never uploaded (or had the wrong filename), resulting in an ugly bar for the missing image, and the other image was from an earlier version of the game.

:Thank you for bringing this to my attention. The thumbnail was deleted because the software listed it as unused and another editor thought it was superfluous. I have noted its use on the file page. The thumbnails are used because indexed PNG thumbs are much more efficient than the full-colour ones made by default. I did a bit more digging and found that I can force a manual link as well as a thumb, so that should work nicely now.

:As for the earlier version image, I replaced it with what I consider to be the "title" screen, which is equivalent to an earlier version of the image. The warning screen might be included too, as a separate image but it seems a little superfluous - maybe just a mention in the text, if anything? I have my own article, which was self-edited to an extent to correct inaccuracies. And I suppose it might be prudent to update it given my new position. That thought has highlighted an idea..

I see a few factual inaccuracies in Furcadia related articles which I'd be happy to correct. Of course, that would be 'self-editing' in a sense and wanted to clarify what the policy is on that. I'm not a marketer or salesperson, and am happy to attempt to cite official sources where possible. But I wouldn't want to invalidate the encyclopaedic purity of the site - merely correct a few errors. I could see how I would not be regarded as impartial. I'm not sure if I can say I would be an 'official' source myself, but I'm certainly as official as you are likely to get, which has it's own pros and cons of course. I could provide examples of what 'inaccuracies' I refer to if that helps.

The edits in question are indeed large, other curators have used this method to prevent editing while making theirs, the pages are only 80% finished, I am not receiving comment on the future status of disambiguation pages, and i'm not using this template as my sole property toy, but to prevent the hanging data from being disturbed until the final edit.

Unfortunately there is no manual for them in particular - you have to click "edit" and see what is done - but [[mediawikiwiki:Help:Contents|MediaWiki has a manual]] - in fact there are [[Wikipedia:Help:Wikipedia: The Missing Manual/Introduction|several]].

:On the English WikiFur, we have locked the front page, and are using a feature called [[mediawikiwiki:Help:Templates|template inclusion]] so that the content of the front page is on other pages. Basically, anything like <nowiki>{{WikiFur Central/Something}} is actually at [[Template:WikiFur Central/Something]]</nowiki>. This makes it harder for people to edit it, which is both good and bad . . . we also have the front page sections rotate each week (with edit links to the appropriate week).

I created 'Boo and Kye' without (series) but reckoned that in the future it was likely there could be ambiguity over 'Frodo' as somebody may create another character of that name; or, equally, a 'Frodo' page might one day cover my fictional character whereas the (series) one would cover the series. So I kinda hovered between using (series) and not using it.

You're right my stories don't have a large following - is it better for me to try and fold them back now? although i'm not totally sure of the formatting for that. I'm more than happy to have a go. I did wonder about this point. I guess that i thought / hoped the number of stories, and that they are a series (with the cast of characters) would lend them some credibility. Also, they're at least of reasonable quality in terms of grammar and spelling etc because that's an interest of mine, having proof-read a novel for a friend. :I'd say leave it as it is if you're comfortable with it now; if anyone feels the need to merge them later, hopefully they'll deal with it without removing any useful information. We most often do this when there is a true "stub" article that will never be of a significant size, just a few lines, but consistency can be a factor as well. *The "admin comment" you mentioned in an edit summary was probably an attempt by Spirou to distill your own comment (". . . failed attempt to made a comic strip and novel with them").
*Use of "show preview" and edit summaries for each saved edit are a good idea (we're not always perfect here, either :-).

Hello Green Reaper! In order to better sort the pages of the italian Wikifur, I was thinking about adding Navboxes templates under some pages (just like the ones the English Wikifur has under the convention related pages). I've seen, however, that the Navbox template doesn't work unless I install the ParserFunctions extention, which I couldn't install myself (it's way too much for my computer knowledges). Is there a way to make th installation easier, or should it be done by someone else?

Hello. This is user bunnyhugger, though I can't prove it. I forgot my password months ago and have been unable to reset it. I have tried numerous times to have a new password sent, but I never receive the email. The email address on file is probably my ameritech.net address, which is an AT&T address. Unfortunately, AT&T likes to go crazy blocking mail from any IPs they consider suspect. My best guess as to why I do not receive the mail is that AT&T has blacklisted wikifur.com. The [[Uncyclopedia:Forum:Village Dump|Uncyclopedia crew]] have more recent experience of moving from Wikia hosting and it might be best to ask them what they did. My largest contribution to that was [[MediaWikiWiki:Extension:MediaWikiAuth|MediaWikiAuth]], which lets people login and transfer their account from another wiki (and which should actually work with current versions of MediaWiki after their gentle ministrations). :No, that is not the meaning of the term. He appears to believe that you do not actually support the same goals as the wiki, but are trying to subvert them by pretending that you do. For example, if giving people fair treatment was one of the goals of the wiki you might express concerns that Mozdoc is not getting fair treatment, thereby hoping to elicit sympathy from those who would otherwise have a neutral or negative opinion. Mozdoc needs to learn to control his temper - I can sympathize with that. I also know how most of society can literally drive people like Mozdoc to such actions.

By only using punishment against him, we only further reinforce his behavior. That's not to say we should just give in and remove it to stop threats - just the opposite. HOWEVER, If it is removed, and you and the others make it CLEARLY known that
1 - it CAN be added in again should the threats resume.
2 - that it is being done for fairness sake.

I believe it will have a greater positive impact not only on the conflict but upon Mozdoc himself.

:There's basically two options for the forum - either create [[Happy Feet]] and make the forum a subsection of that, or create [[Happy Feet Fan Forum]]. The normal thing to do is the latter - have a separate article for the forum. I would suggest tightening the language in the history section a little, though. It should concentrate on the facts, not subjective statements like "grew quickly" (how quickly?). The talk page should mention and link to the prior article.

:We tend not to do really huge articles about commercial works because Wikipedia does it better than us. We are not created to compete with them in their field of expertise - we would rather readers and editors went there instead. Therefore, what I would recommend is to make an article with an overview of the movie, but which concentrates ''specifically'' on the usage of Happy Feet within the furry fandom (which Wikipedia is not likely to cover), and then point people to [[Wikipedia:Happy Feet|Wikipedia's article]] in the "See also" section. Question: How come there is an article on [[centaur]]s but not one on [[mermaid]]s? Recently, I was going to write a article about mermaids and I saw the log about it being deleted because it's "not furry". I don't mean to insult anyone's intelligence here but, a centaur is "top half human, lower half horse" (you know what I mean) and a mermaid is "half woman half fish" I seriously don't see the problem...

Is it because there are [[foxtaur]]s, [[skunktaur]]s and [[chakat]]s, and one would be very hard pressed to find a picture of a furry mermaid? Or because if an article on the mermaid is allowed, it'll open the door for articles on the lamia (half woman half snake), medusa, the harpy and anansi (part man, part spider I think)?

One shared file repository is a good idea for saving server drive space. But motivation of anon users to register is lowered since no more extra feature of uploading files available. Ok, so be it. The second problem is russification of WikiFur namespace. ВикиФур: is counted like articles and may appear in Random articles. :Honestly, the disk space is not so important as the time. It takes work to translate a page. If you have to upload all of the images in it as well, that is more work. I would like to avoid that work for most images. People still need to register to use the image pool (but we would like to make it be just one registration for all WikiFur in the near future). If there is any interface text that needs to be changed on the pool wiki to help Russian contributors, I would be glad to do so. Images can still be uploaded locally by going directly to Special:Upload.
:The problem with ВикиФур: is that ВикиФур was not the name of the project namespace. WikiFur was, because that was the site name, and by default the site name is the name of the project namespace. I uploaded a few images of my fursuits, but didn't realize under after I'd done it that "rat.jpg" and "panther.jpg" was far too general a file name - is there any way to change the names? Or, is there any way to delete these files so I can re-upload them with more appropriate names?

:A webring is not useful for a wiki article on a topic because it is basically a replacement for a set of links. These links should instead be placed in the article's external links section of the article if they are of sufficient relevance and contain useful information, and not linked at all if they are not.

:Webrings were great for finding relevant sites ten years ago. They're pretty much redundant with search, now. If you find one on here, you are welcome to replace it with specific links to useful websites on the ring. We're not interested in being part of any. == Innacuracy posted by a troll ==

There is a person who posted a paragraph that needs refuted for inaccuracy. This person is a troll from YouTube that several times has twisted peoples words and used them out of context. The link to the user's page (which contains the info in question) is furry.wikia.com/wiki/Paxil_rose

As a side note i need to state that paxilrose is a banned youtube troll who would argue with furries for months. His original account was youtube.com/user/paxilrose. If you check that link you will see he was put on permanent suspension. Also paxilrose isn't even a furry, so why should he have a wikifur page anyway unless it was strictly to talk just about him and nobody else? This isn't TrollWiki or ED. Accuracy and Cleanness exist here.

The middle paragraph about wolfeedarkfang, is inaccurate. Heres several things i can find wrong with it just by glancing.

This was never proven. He wishes it was though, and will say and do anything to make it look like it.

This was also never proven. You can't tell who is who on the internet without seeing their faces. The problem here is he wants it to look like anyone who sticks up for me on YouTube is a fake so that it looks like i have no real supporters in his drama.

A little commentary. This doesn't have to account for anything but I want to quote this.

I find Darkfangs request to be out of line. As stated, this is a fairly well known scandal involving him, and thus is as relevant as the Furry War page. The pictures are accurate accounts of events (the profile and admission, respectively) and I will point out Darkfangs own user page for additional information, since he's written quite a bit on the subject himself with far less references. Given that this is openly a user edited wiki, I strongly disagree that "unauthorized" use of his name is even an issue.

I also want to cite the user page of the furry known as Sibe. This individual has quite a negative reputation based on his actions, yet somehow these actions are deemed relevant enough to warrant being added to his page. The same standards should be held for Wolfee Darkfang. I, however, am at least giving him the privilege of not having it on his primary page (though if Sibe's antics are somehow important enough to be allowed on his page, I think the same should go for Darkfang).

If relevance to my page is the only cocnern, I'd be more than happy to make a new page for it. However, the admins of this site should make themselves clear whether this is an issue of relevance in regards to certain pages, or whether they believe some controversial members actions are acceptable material to mention and others are not and why they think that is. --Paxilrose 16:00, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi I know you get rogue edits on here, and I am sure its a pain cleaning them up, I just wanted to bring up an issue that was half resolved to which I had no idea of.

Either a troll or the guy who uses the same name as me posted all his about him over mine, and I have been cleaned up and given this ugly tag saying my location, now while I understand you need to separate furs to build up the wiki, I do not believe another fur should lay take to a name I have been using since recorded at 12/1/2007 in Second Life but generally before this in real life.

Also it turns out I registered at furaffinity 3 days after him but could only use the name steampunkgears or I would have used steam, I have seen to have been a fur from 2006 in Second Life.

Now generally I take this issue as one of identity fraud and because I have registered here as steam before him and because this wiki is taken as a form of registration on furs and information I want my URL put back to http://en.wikifur.com/wiki/Steam not http://en.wikifur.com/wiki/Steam_%28United_Kingdom and I would like it locked so only I can edit it.

The URL has been changed into a This is a disambiguation page — a navigational aid which lists pages that might otherwise share the same title. If an article link referred you here, you might want to go back and fix it to point directly to the intended page.

But I do not accept Steam Furrys would use that title and I do not accept that steam the game software needs to be published on a furry wiki the only issue is one of rights and hes proved he has no rights to that name due to trying to force his way in though my page posting about himself.

I don't really agree with [http://en.wikifur.com/w/index.php?title=Muushi&curid=58706&diff=296951&oldid=296933 this] change, since it is still true that they only remove threads if they are actually reported and no, as far as I can tell, on their own prerogative. I think it should be reverted, though the last paragraph should be changed to note that they do remove threads if they are reported, but only then. ::I realize I'm new to WikiFur, and thus my opinion may not count for much (simply because I haven't been around long enough to completely understand the WikiFur culture. I'll try to sum up my thoughts carefully. I respect personal privacy, and I also understand that people may leave the fandom for various reasons. OTOH, I also know (particularly as a relative newcomer) that there is a need for a stable, reliable, credible archive to preserve the history and legacy of the fandom. WikiFur has been helpful to me in the past, before I ever dreamed of becoming an editor, for the fact that when I heard people talking about XYZ, I could easily go look up who or what they were talking about. Particularly in the case of someone whose contributions to the fandom are truly notable, it disturbs me to think that we can simply erase the record of their contributions and blank the pages of history for the generations that follow. Like it or not, when you step up to the plate and assume any notable position, you become a historical figure in your culture, whether it's the furry fandom or the whole USA. I'm sure that there are a lot of things that, for instance, George W. Bush or Al Gore wish they could delete from the record, but that goes against the whole point of recording their legacies (for good or for ill). So I respectfully have to disagree in this case. Notability has '''everything''' to do with it, because it is the yardstick by which we measure the importance of an article as a reference to the fandom. We may measure notability differently than Wikipedia does, but it's still a very relevant criterion.

::Is it possible that, as a compromise, we can offer someone the chance to "freeze" their page as it exists in a certain state (after removing anything that IS personally identifiable IRL) and put a banner at the top that the page is left in place for historical/archival purposes but is no longer active/editable? I know that WF stopped this practice some time back because people were not keeping their pages updated. In the case of someone retiring from the fandom, that's not a bad thing: we just want the history of what they did while they were here. Much like I could care less what Clinton or Bush is doing today, I'm only interested in what they did while in office. To the extent that a page (1) does not contain information that is detrimental to the person IRL and (2) provides valuable historical context, I think we need to strike a balance between the needs of the many and the needs of the few. Regardless of the scope of your contributions, you participated actively in the fandom using that fan name. I was asking to preserve that legacy, not as an insult to you, but so that newer furs will have a resource to turn to when your name comes up in conversation with an old-timer one day. I know I've certainly used it in that way myself. I agree that WikiFur is a great resource, and I'm not disputing the need for the exclusion policy in some cases.
