So what is "against"? Are you anti-furry if you disagree with individual furry fans, or particular groups, or furries in general - and criticise them about a specific "failing", or just general dislike? I also note that this category has been extended to groups. Is a community anti-furry if a few, some, or all of its members are? (see [[Talk:Chat on the Internet]])

Put simply, what is necessary to achieve this categorization? --{{UT|GreenReaper}} 03:27, 16 Jan 2006 (UTC)

:I would say that a group is anti-furry if it or its members are "well known" to hold antipathy toward furries, or have taken direct action against furries in some way. But that's a rather vague rule. If some group singles out only babyfurs, for example, does that make the group anti-furry or just anti-infantilism? On the other hand, a group which strikes at a broad set of types may earn the title: being against ''everything'' (or a majority of things) suggests that the real goal is attempting to enforce some perceived "normality" (meaning "just like us"), rather than simply standing against one particular thing. -- [[User:Siege|Siege]] 11:49, 16 Jan 2006 (UTC)
I'm for separate categories for individuals and groups. I do not think that "Anti-furry" means "[[Wikipedia:Critic|critical]] of furries". It means "against furries". If we want to have a category of people and groups who are critical (whether constructive or otherwise), we should have a category called "Critics". "Anti-furry" is just a prejorative classification which adds intent into it, and which is quite reasonably going to lead to people shouting "[[fursecution]]". Let people decide the intent from the article and references. --[[User:GreenReaper|GreenReaper]]([[User talk:GreenReaper|talk]]) 19:08, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

: Okay, I think that makes sense. I originally changed the description due to the discussion on [[Talk:Encyclopædia Dramatica]] wherein it was pointed out that there is a difference between "critical of furry" and "anti-furry".

:I second the idea of critics. There are people who were or are critical of furry who aren't anti-furry themselves. Now, how anyone would go about splitting this hair beyond self-identification as such is a different topic. [[User:733|733]] 20:35, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

: Any suggestions for a new category name? --[[User:Dmuth|Douglas Muth]] 23:36, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

::'Furry fandom critics'? (Slightly ambiguous).
::'Critics of the furry fandom'? (Removes that hint of ambiguity, but it's ''long'' to the point of being obnoxious).
:::How about ''Critical sites''? A lot of those sites are run by furries and have a high percentage of furry members. Just because they criticize or laugh at aspects of the fandom they don't care for, should that mean they are labelled as "anti-furry" and dumped in the same category as people who aren't furries and who genuinely dislike the fandom as a whole ? Of course there is a school of thought in the fandom that thinks any critic is some kind of closet anti-furry or troll so I dunno. '''Encyclopædia Dramatica''' (also known as '''ED''', and sometimes misspelled '''Encyclopedia Dramatica''') is a parody of [[Wikipedia:Wiki|wikis]] and wiki communities founded by [[Girlvinyl]] and several other volunteer administrators.

At present (May 2007) editing of articles may only be carried out by ED administrators and all other users are prevented from logging in.

* '''Address''': <nowiki>http://www.encyclopediadramatica.com/</nowiki>
* '''Administrators''': [http://tinyurl.com/eq679 external list]
* '''Ran from/to''': December 2004 - present

==History==
Encyclopædia Dramatica was founded as a compendium of internet personalities, events and memes by Girlvinyl in response to the deletion of a the Mediacrat vanity page<ref>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Mediacrat</ref> created by [[LiveJournal]] e-celebrity [[Wikipedia:User:Jameth|Jameth]]. Jameth used to be an honorary administrator on the site <ref><nowiki>http://www.encyclopediadramatica.com/index.php?title=Special%3ALog&type=rights&user=&page=User%3AJameth</nowiki></ref>.

==Types of content==
Encyclopedia Dramatica has been compared to a tabloid. Its articles are about internet-related drama, memes and internet personalities. It also adds humor. The site does have a policy against revealing real names or personal information of those it satirizes, unless the individual is a well-known by their real name. <ref><nowiki>http://www.encyclopediadramatica.com/index.php/Encyclopedia_Dramatica:Basic_Rules</nowiki></ref> The site includes drama and satire of many types. The only effective editorial requirements are that the content is legal and funny. "Unfunny" is subject to derision and is bannable in most forms.

The website also states that all content people add are Copyright its site <ref>www.encyclopediadramatica.com/index.php/Encyclopedia_Dramatica:Copyright</ref>.

===Images===
Encyclopedia Dramatica has a large amount of pornography and shock images, but does not allow photos of people under the age of 18. Browse at your own risk.

==Encyclopædia Dramatica and furries==
The site's material on furries is generally about the worst of the fandom. However, most of its users aren't [[anti-furry]] and ED claims it only makes broad generalizations of the [[furry fandom]] and portraits all furries as sexual deviants because it is, according to ED, far more humorous and interesting to read about something scandalous and shocking, comparing the site to a tabloid. Furries are welcome to edit there as long as they follow the site's policies and refrain from vandalizing the wiki.<ref><nowiki>http://encyclopediadramatica.com/index.php/Template:Furry/Welcome</nowiki></ref>

Besides criticizing the fandom in general, some furries use it to criticize other members of the fandom, particularly ones who they feel make furries look bad.

==Criticism==
The most common criticism of Encylopædia Dramatica is that its purpose of documenting drama often results in the promotion of drama, be it through invasions, pranks, or reposting of sensitive information.

Another common criticism is a seeming disrespect for intellectual property and copyright law. The often-sensitive information that appears in ED articles is typically gathered from long-forgotten, obscure corners of the internet, and is often upsetting to the subject, to the point that legal threats are often issued. This is however, nearly always in vain, as the fair use clauses of United States copyright law explicitly provide exceptions for satire and criticism. Currently, their Arbchat procedure is the sole method of information removal and revision.
'''RailFoxen''' (also known as '''Raiya Daimonion''' or '''Raiya''') is the acting head administrator of [[SporkMUCK]], and a wizard on [[RunaMUCK]] before it went down for a short time.

Raiya was a forum moderator on [[Crush! Yiff! Destroy!]] under the name '''Railfoxen''' until July 2006 when he decided that he now wished to use the name '''Downspin''' online and spread the story that Railfoxen had been banned from CYD due to "a slight legal emergency", the precise details of which were never specified. It is believed that this was done in order to fool people whom he had harassed online. Downspin assumed Railfoxen's duties as forum moderator immediately after Railfoxen's "banning"<ref>[http://crushyiffdestroy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2251&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=downspin&start=0 '' RailFoxen? Downspin?'' - CYD forum thread]</ref> and later changed his forum handle to '''Kindrift'''.

CYD administrator [[Mitch]] asserted on [[Chibiabos]]'s Talk page<ref>http://furry.wikia.com/wiki/User_talk:Chibiabos/Archive_1#Crush.21_Yiff.21_Destroy.21_changes</ref> that RailFoxen was no longer associated with CYD, but the fact that he made an apparent newcomer to CYD such as Downspin/Kindrift a moderator immediately upon joining CYD casts doubt on the veracity of this statement and suggests that at the very least Downspin was someone known to him. Further doubt is cast by the fact that CYD published an article by Railfoxen on October 1st 2006, four months after he had ostensibly been banned.<ref>[http://www.crushyiffdestroy.com/show/chi "Chibiabos: Distored Prose"] (CYD article by Railfoxen)</ref>

==Controversy==
While posting on CYD under the name of RailFoxen, Raiya actively stalked and harassed furs, even to the extent of making unsubstantiated sexual allegations<ref>http://www.crushyiffdestroy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1967</ref>.

He has expressed strong sentiments against Wikifur<ref>http://www.crushyiffdestroy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=54877</ref> and also expressed the view that furry artists are all [[pornography|pornographers]] (specifically, "the people souless enough to continue to sell their dignity for profit." <ref>http://www.crushyiffdestroy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=56485&highlight=#56485</ref>). He has additionally expressed vehement anti-gay ("But of course any sort of criticism to the gay community - who invented drama - is going to meet a limp-wristed backlash.")<ref>http://www.crushyiffdestroy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1998</ref> and anti-zoo sentiments, making statements about individuals on several CYD threads and even threats to visit those who he accuses of dog rape. The purpose of his hypothetical trip was never specified, although he suggested that it might involve an illegal act: <blockquote>"You know, fuck it, and fuck (Ebonlupus). [...] You can see the scratches in the wall of his bedroom where his dogs tried to escape. The man didn't last more than a week roughing it in his own back yard. [...] Now Ebon lives in his bedroom, sucking potassium out of his monitor and living off the dole. [...] Given, a minor tweak in our country's legal code, and I'd be taking a weekend off. We border southern Oregon. It's convenient."<ref>http://www.crushyiffdestroy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=52594&highlight=#52594</ref></blockquote>

These threads remain on the CYD forum and have not been locked to prevent posting.

==Controversy II==
[[Chibiabos]] alleges that Raiya has pursued him for some time on FurryMUCK, claiming in the PG-rated public room [[West Corner of The Park (location)|WCOTP]] that he "rapes dogs." Chibiabos also claims that Raiya actively stalked and harassed furs on such venues as [[FurryMUCK]] while a member of CYD, and even that he threatened to kill people, though others disagree with some of these statements. (See the [[Talk:RailFoxen|discussion page]] and also the [[Talk:Downspin|Downspin discussion page]])

==Furry involvement==
RailFoxen [[fursona]] is not really a fox, but a [[wolfcat]] or [[kitsune]]. Seen occasionally at the [[Dionysian Scream|D-Scream]] in years past, he was one of the early [[Postfurry|postfurries]], but parted with the community shortly before the creation of [[PuzzleboxMUCK]] in 2002. His involvement in the postfurry community may have been influenced by the [[wikipedia:Strogg|Strogg]], as his new name is a Quake II reference. His feelings about today's fandom can be summed up with the following, personal quote: "''That -is- my hobby. Not a lifestyle, thanks a lot.''"

At the time of writing his "[[fursona|murrsona]]" is a [[Skunktaur (Chakat-kin)|chakat-kin skunktaur]] but this is shortly to change to an entirely new and original species of staggering originality of his own invention.
== Apparant misrepresentation of [[Crush! Yiff! Destroy!|CYD]] ==

On my user talk page at http://furry.wikia.com/wiki/User_talk:Chibiabos/Archive_1#Crush.21_Yiff.21_Destroy.21_changes , you asserted RailFoxen is no longer associated with CYD and that his behavior, therefore, should not be construed as to represent CYD. However, your organization just published an article on your front page, specifically linked at http://www.crushyiffdestroy.com/show/chi that seems to contradict this, as it was posted October 1st and the author is Raiya. Further, the article opens that CYD holds no official position on bestiality; however, numerous articles found within the forum easily found with a keyword search that unfortunately I have not found a way to preserve with a weblink, including several by both [[Downspin]] and [[Mitch]] whom seem to be administrators of CYD.

I am afraid I find stark contradictions here, including specifically from Downspin, in regards to whether or not CYD is responsible for RailFoxen/Raiya's off-CYD behavior. Perhaps someone could clarify or incorporate this information into the article to ensure NPOV? --[[User:Chibiabos|Chibiabos]] 02:29, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

==Controversy==

==Controversy II==
(See the [[Talk:RailFoxen|discussion page]])

==Furry involvement==
RailFoxen [[fursona]] is not really a fox, but a [[wolfcat]] or [[kitsune]]. Seen occasionally at the [[Dionysian Scream|D-Scream]] in years past, he was one of the early [[Postfurry|postfurries]], but parted shortly before the creation of [[PuzzleboxMUCK]] in 2002. His involvement in the postfurry community might have been influenced by the [[wikipedia:Strogg|Strogg]], as his new name is a Quake II reference. His feelings about his views of today's fandom can be summed up with the following, personal quote: "''That -is- my hobby. Not a lifestyle, thanks a lot.''"

At the time of writing his [[fursona|murrsona]] is a [[Skunktaur (Chakat-kin)|chakat-kin skunktaur]] but this is shortly to change to an entirely new and original species of staggering originality of his own invention.

He has forgotten what his previous goal was re: picking fights with [[Sidechan]] administrators, and has resigned to posting pictures of himself on the /furi/ board.

I'm troubled by this sentence:
"If a moderator could identify a furry, they would ban him or her for a number of months."

It says "they" would ban the furry. Who exactly are they? Certainly not the moderator, because that's a singular noun. From the context of the paragraph, the two candidates are:
1. Something Awful goons
2. The majority of people on 4chan

The page is protected, so I can't make any changes; however, I recommend the replacement of the aforementioned sentence with something along these lines:

"Any furries identified by the moderators would be banned for a number of months."

:I beg to differ. The use of the word "they" in the above sentence is a long established convention of the English language [http://www.editorscanberra.org/they.htm], so the sentence in question is perfectly alright as is. Anyone with English as their first language knows perfectly well that "they" in this case refers to "a moderator". == Desu ==

"Desu" is placed at the ending of sentences in Japanese...it doesn't really have a meaning in that sense, just a sort of "period" for a sentence [vs desu-yo, which adds emphasis (like a !), or desu-ne, which adds a questioning tone (like the Canadian 'eh' or ?)]. However, looking it up, it's also Engrish slang for "death", so maybe that's the meaning behind it. Dunno. '''Meet the "Furries"''' was a newspaper article purportedly scanned from the August 10th 2005 issue of the ''Oregon Free-Times'', that involved drama surrounding the city of Richmond's high school [[wikipedia:baseball|baseball]] [[mascot]] and [[furry fandom]].

The article described the banning of the baseball team's [[tiger]] mascot "Tig the Tiger" after a child discovered inappropriate pictures of furry sexuality on the internet while trying to join the mascot's online club.

First revealed on [[Angrylittlefox]]'s [[livejournal]] on January 18, 2006, postings on [[alt.fan.furry]] on the 20th of the same month pointed out that the whole affair and the article had been a [[wikipedia:hoax|hoax]].

The two telltale signs which allowed the alert reader to recognize the article as a hoax were firstly, that the only town named Richmond in Oregon is listed as a [http://www.ghosttowns.com/states/or/richmond.html ghost town], and secondly, that no US periodicals reference, such as the [http://www.usnpl.com/ USNPL], lists any publication under the name of the ''Oregon Free-Times''.

Despite being thoroughly debunked, fresh people continued to fall for the hoax right up to July 2006, many outside of the fandom.
'''P.I.S.O.C.''' (Purging Inhuman Sexual Orientation with Christ) was a humorous website created by the person formerly known as [[furie4jesus]] that parodied various 'religious intervention' sites. Using many quotes taken from actual ministry websites (but twisted around), the website purported to 'teach' Christians about furries and 'Fursex Attraction Disorder' (F.A.D.).

The site was run by 'Pastor Roose' (the surname a take on <i>ruse</i>). He claimed that he had been a [[pig]] and the [[pet]] of a caramel-colored [[vixen]], until he was 'saved by Christ', beat his former girlfriend nearly to death, and started a ministry. The full 'story' was a pastiche of the stories of many televangelists, with a uniquely PISOCy twist.

Although written in the style of the King James version of the Bible, most of the 'biblical quotes' in the site were from fake books of the bible, and altered as if they were actual books of the Bible.

The site linked to various sites run by Landover Baptist, but PISOC had no formal connection with Landover Baptist.

==Furry 'facts'==
Among the fictional facts presented in the site:
*Furries are terrorists.
*Furries have secret bases under San Francisco where they experiment on Christian children to turn them into biological furries.
*Furries are all Wiccan.
*The "furry fandom" was created by Nazi Germany, as Adolf's 'perfect race'.
*Furries have subverted the [[Wikipedia:Disney|Disney]] corporation.
*[[Otherkin]] are a splinter group of the [[furry fandom]] that commits vampirism.
*The word "[[yiff]]" comes from the sound a furry-made shiv makes as it penetrates a '[[hyooman]]' throat, and that most "[[yiffy]]" art involves furs about to kill a human as part of a sexual act.
Perhaps better wording to reflect that the name nonfur is assumed by some who participate in furry fandom but do not wish to be weighted down with the perceived (true or not) baggage of the label of "furry fan". Whether you agree with that stance or not, it does exist - I recall at [[Midwest FurFest]] a few years ago the panel, "I'm Not Furry, But..." attracted a couple dozen people who preferred to fall in this category. --[[User:DuncanDaHusky|Duncan da Husky]] 13:16, 15 March 2006 (UTC)
'''Jerry Collins''' is an artist from Atlanta who is probably best known for his "Haku Hasin" (or [[Bambioid]]s). His career extends back to the late 1970s, contributing to the pre-furry [[APA]] ''[[Vootie]]''. His work has also appeared in ''[[Furrlough]]'', ''[[Genus]]'', and ''[[Furplay]]'', and he has self-published a number of A5-format [[zines]] and portfolios, some of which have been sold through [[Ed Zolna]]'s [[Mailbox Books]].

In author's notes in early-1980s portfolios and samplers, Jerry describes the main influences on his art as a mixture of (1920s horror writer) H.P.Lovecraft, (anime pioneer) Osamu Tezuka, and (classic underground cartoonist) Vaughn Bode.

Jerry is still active, doing art on [[commission]], and he has contributed some satirical caricatures poking fun at fandom figures to the site [[Crush! Yiff! Destroy!]], along with a couple of short pieces in which he reminisces about his experiences in the fandom.

Along with the above mentioned Bambioids, he is best known for his other two popular [[furry]] alien species, the [[Ganarfs]] and the [[Teijeinese]]/Cat-Bears. These are merely the three most common of a huge menagerie of Collins Critters -- Ghouls, Gorts, Chipurra/"Chippies", Anuboids, Courtesanoids/"Panzerkitties", Gorilla Girls -- many of which were used only once or twice.
(also known as '''CYD''') is a website with an associated [[forum]] visited by [[furs]], [[Ex-fur|ex-furs]], [[Nonfur|nonfurs]], and outright [[anti-furries]] which has as its ostensible guiding principle the uninhibited poking of fun at the excesses of the [[furry fandom]].
* '''Mascot''': [[Rankin]] the [[raccoon]]
* '''Operational dates''': 2002 - present

Favourite topics include the political antics of the webmasters of popular furry sites, bad [[Furry_fiction|stories]] and [[fanfiction]], online drama and overreaction, [[furry spirituality]] and unsightly [[fursuit]]s.

While the founding concept of CYD is the exercise of freedom of speech among like-minded individuals who share a sense of exasperation at the fandom's more bizarre features, it has become associated with individuals of a more militant and childish attitude who occasionally commit acts of vandalism against furry online resources, even though the site's owner [http://crushyiffdestroy.com/about.php#b4 explicitly forbids such behaviour] and has in fact [http://crushyiffdestroy.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=1608 banned people for this].

CYD has been described as being an offshoot of [[Portal of Evil]] or [[Something Awful]], but it has no ties or affiliations with either of these sites, and indeed is often dubbed a "furry site" by them. It is likely that this idea arose because a few of CYD's forum members are also members of those other sites.

The CYD forums are an interesting mix of both practicing furries and vehement anti-furries cohabiting in an uneasy balance. The occasional "LOL FURRIES" style too-stupid-for-[[Something Awful]] [[Anti-furries|furry basher]] pops up now and then, but is usually quickly banned. [[Furry apologist]]s venturing into the forums are generally judged on the basis of their behavior in the forums alone rather than on their posts elsewhere on the Internet. Although generally hostile to "celebrity" furs, a number of minor furry artists and [[furry fan|fans]] have won acceptance there. The forums are moderated by [[Mitch]], [[Computolio]], [[The New Meat]] and [[Dogthing]].

CYD also provides an extensive collection of documents valuable to those researching early fandom history. Some of these aren't available elsewhere. Also included is an [http://crushyiffdestroy.com/links.php extensive collection of links to other Furry web sites], the majority of which are actually favorable to the fandom.

Salmanazar:

The '''Portal of Evil''' or '''POE''' is a website that specializes in cataloging strange, shocking, or otherwise amusing web pages, and has been described as "the Yahoo! of the weird". It also has a sister site, '''[http://www.poe-news.com POE News]''', which specializes in odd and unusual news stories. Both sites incorporate lively discussion forums.

Though the sites listed on POE range from religious extremism to sexual [[fetish]]es, the large number of [[furry fandom]]-related sites that have been listed on POE, along with the often harsh comments passed upon said sites in POE's forums, have caused it to be branded by some as an [[anti-furry]] site.

==The Prime Directive==
Contrary to popular belief, the great majority of POE members do ''not'' organize attacks on the websites that are listed on POE. A POE forum rule known as the ''Prime Directive'' explicitly forbids "touching the exhibits"; in other words, POE members are to keep their criticisms of the site to the POE forums. They are under no circumstances to contact the owners of the posted sites or troll their guestbooks/forums even if the site owners post in the POE discussion forums of their own accord.

Occasionally, casual visitors to POE will react to featured sites in a way that violates the Prime Directive, e.g. by privately contacting the site's owner, posting rude messages on the site's guestbook, or otherwise causing the owner to alter or even shut down his or her website. Sometimes this is done maliciously by people opposed to POE, in a deliberate attempt to make the site and its members look bad; such behavior, as mentioned above, is against the forum rules, and people have been banned for this.
The '''Burned Furs''' were founded in 1998 by [[Squee Rat]]. The group was composed of people who felt that they had been "burned" by their association with certain aspects of [[furry fandom]].

Their self-stated purposes were:

* institute themselves as a "monkey wrench in the gears of mainstream (furry) fandom--not to destroy it, but to improve it"; failing that, they would "institute ourselves as an alternative to mainstream fandom."

* strongly discourage the support of acts such as [[bestiality]], [[plushophilia]], [[fursuit]] sex and other things seen as "wrong" by non-fandom individuals ([[mundanes]]).

* leave the concept of "[[furry lifestyle]]rs" up to debate; they did not consider "the aspects of the 'lifestyler' contingent ... as problematical as the acts mentioned in" the point above.

* encourage aesthetic, cultural and philosophical diversity, mainly to "inspire much-needed debates and exchanges of ideas".

They also said that furry fandom was not about sexuality in any form or shape and that adult art and fiction should be displayed responsibly.

Their formation and existence was the cause of many disputes over the exact nature of their beliefs and the Burned Furs were accused of intolerance and wanting to impose their subjective vision on the rest of the fandom.

Many of these disputes occurred on USENET in the [[:Category:Newsgroups|newsgroups]] [[alt.fan.furry]] and [[alt.lifestyle.furry]].

They were opposed by a group formed specifically for the purpose called the [[Freezing Furs]] who accused the Burned Furs of being a hate group.

A third and fourth group, [[Nonaligned_Furs]] and [[Furry Peace]] were formed on the basis of inclusion and non-alignment in the factional conflicts which resulted from the formation of the Burned Furs.

By about 2001 the Burned Furs had faded into history, many of them having [[wikipedia:GAFIA|GAFIAted]] from furry fandom altogether, and the other groups became defunct by default.

'''Skunk''' is a black and white comic published by [[Mu Press]] in 1993, which took a somewhat clumsy jab at the fandom (the title itself was admitted to be short for the anti-furry slur "skunkf*cker"). It was edited by Donna Barr and featured strips by her, Roberta Gregory, [[Chuck Melville]], and Colin Upton, with a cover by artist Tom Verre.

Reception of this small-press comic at the time was harsh, and some people consider it more offensive to the fandom than [[Shawn Keller]]'s "[[Horrifying Look at the Furries]]. The strip most singled out for criticism was Colin Upton's "The Fur Flies To France", concerning the misadventures of a boorish American comic artist called "the Goat" - a barely disguised [[anthropomorphic]] version of [[Jim Groat]] - who acts like an idiot abroad and runs into trouble with French customs.
Just wanted to say sorry about removing your link. Didn't think it might actually be out of copyright, good job with the better source though, better to link to a site which is more likely to keep the content in a safe place unlike Geocities. :) -[[User:Nidonocu|Nidonocu]] - [[User talk:Nidonocu|talk]] [[Image:Trans 168.png|16px|Nidonocu]] 16:08, 21 Aug 2005 (UTC)
