unreferenced

Female refers to organisms that produce ova, or egg cells. Hormones, genetics, and overall form are other physical characteristics that typically differentiate females from other sexes.

Females and furry
Femaleness occupies places within the furry fandom, in both "real life" and virtual communities, that don't reflect its place in the larger society.

In "real life", females are drastically in the minority: A 1998 survey of 350 furries found that females comprised 15% of the population, as compared to a 2005 U.S. Census report of 51% in the U.S. as a whole .

In virtual communities, however, there appears to be a higher percentage of female participants, as a substantial number of male players control female characters. (One saying about the online world FurryMUCK goes, "The guys are guys, and the girls are, too.")

Those female furries who play female characters online report that they get unwanted attention from some male players who have a tendency to (falsely) believe that they may have a chance of getting RL sex or a relationship from female players. In addition, some report alienation because of common depictions of females within the furry community (like the 'foxy lady').

As in any community, (male) views of females differ from person to person, and it is typically the extreme that is seen by the mainstream society as being normal within the furry community. This, in turn, may discourage females from joining the furry community, and encourage them to keep their furry interests 'in the closet', or refrain from mentioning their furry interests to others.
He appears in Star Fox, Star Fox 2, Star Fox 64, and Star Fox: Assault as well as appearing in Super Smash Bros Melee as an unlockable character.

Star Fox History
spoiler

Falco Lombardi was part of a gang called the Hot Rodders some time before he met Fox McCloud- later, he joined the Star Fox team, becoming one of Fox's most valued friends, though the two exhibit tense moments when skill comes into question. He tends to be something of a braggart, and now and again will go out of his way to outdo Fox in terms of flying skill, believing himself to be the superior pilot- to some degree, this will sometimes land him in a spot of trouble that has Fox saving him instead, much to Falco's irritation. Much like Fox and Wolf, Falco has an undetermined rivalry with Star Wolf member Leon Powalski.

Sometime between Star Fox 64 and Dinosaur Planet, Falco leaves the team to become a freelance pilot- reasons for this are cited in comics that reference his relationship with Katt Monroe coming to an end after he blows her off and she finds another feline to be with. It is for this reason why he was absent for the majority of Star Fox Adventures, though he agrees to become a member of the team after these events. Displaying stats in multiplayer as the best pilot among them besides perhaps Wolf, he shows considerable skill as a pilot throughout the game's series. As time goes by after the events of Star Fox Command, the team disbands, with Falco always keeping an ear out for Fox should he need help- one non-canonical ending has him develop his own team, named Star Falcon, with Katt Monroe and Dash Bowman as members, and friendly rivals to Star Fox.

Outside of the game series, Falco is sometimes, whether comically or seriously, is considered a love interest for Fox, despite lack of material to link the two within actual canon. One notable joke about this relationship was in a particularly memorable strip of VG Cats.
He appears in Star Fox 2, Star Fox 64, and Star Fox: Assault. Wolf first appeared in the unreleased Star Fox 2 with no eye patch and a scar going down his right eye. In Star Fox 64, he wears a patch on his left eye. In Star Fox: Assault, and Star Fox: Command, his eye patch has been swapped for a cybernetic implant.

Star Fox History
spoiler

Almost nothing is known about Wolf's past or why Wolf and Fox are rivals. In Star Fox 64, Fox encounters Wolf and his team Star Wolf once throughout the game on the following planets/areas, depending on the player's path choice: Fortuna (Fichinia), Bolse Defense Station, Venom.

In Star Fox: Assault, Fox fights Wolf around the Sargasso Space Station's exterior, an encounter spurred on by Fox's raiding of Wolf's space station. During Fox's travels to Corneria, he is cornered by Aparoids; Wolf flies in to destroy the Aparoids, saving Fox's life.

Peppy is a former member of the original mercenary team called Star Fox, headed by Fox's father James McCloud. On a routine patrol, disaster struck the squadron when another member, Pigma Dengar, betrayed them, handing them over to the evil scientist Andross. In the following chaos, James sacrificed himself to allow Peppy to escape.

Peppy is now retired from flying missions with Fox McCloud, Falco Lombardi and the ever annoying Slippy Toad. His place in the squadron is now filled by Krystal, the newest member of the Star Fox Team. Peppy now aids Fox and the rest with his advice and vast experience, from their capital ship, Great Fox, which was destroyed in a last ditch effort to pierce the Aparoid shield to give Fox a clear run to the Aparoid Queen.
Slippy Toad is a fictional frog video game character from the Star Fox game series. In the games, he is the Star Fox team mechanic, also flying with them and needing to be saved on a regular basis. He appears in all Star Fox games and helps the player by displaying the enemy's health or telling you what you should do next in Star Fox Adventures.

Star Fox History
spoiler

In Star Fox 64, his voice was portrayed by Lyssa Browne, who also portrayed the voice of female feline Katt Monroe in the same game. As a result, his voice was high and feminine enough that often people not familiar with the series or its characters mistook him for a girl. It is he who often needs to be rescued from being shot down- failing to do so would render his ability to display shield analysis data unavailable, and thus you would not be able to see the health of the boss you fought in that stage and stages leading until his ship is repaired. In Adventures, he does not fight alongside Fox, but does instead lend aid as a temporary translator (until he concocts a device that Fox is able to use for that purpose) and sends helpful items to the planets surface, most of which would almost always end up in the shop in ThornTailHollow and had to be bought. In Assault, he is back in the sky along with the rest of the Star Fox team and getting into the same trouble he did in Star Fox 64, although now his voice is clearly male, if considered somewhat nerdy. His stats in multiplayer show him to be a considerable opponent on foot.
His teammates include Slippy Toad, Peppy Hare, Falco Lombardi, and Krystal.

Physical appearance
Fox wears a flight jacket and a communications helmet in Star Fox, Star Fox 2, and Star Fox 64. This can also be seen in the games Super Smash Bros. and Super Smash Bros. Melee. In Adventures, his look was updated. He loses the helmet and puts on a red scarf and zips open his jacket. He also wears some hard metal boots and switches his pants color from gray to green. He also wears a knee pad on his left leg. In Star Fox: Assault, Fox wears all green and a white jacket, apparently lightly armored. He also wears more pads on his elbows and knees and has a communicator on his arm. He also has a back pack for carrying items, including rock candies and Krystal's Staff in Adventures to weapons in Assault. In Command, Fox goes back to wearing his classic outfit from Star Fox 64.

Appearance in games
Fox McCloud has been featured in several games, beginning with the original Star Fox for the Super Nintendo/Super Famicom:
*Star Fox (Scrolling Shooter, 1993, SNES)
*Star Fox 2 (Unreleased Scrolling Shooter, 1995, SNES)
*Star Fox 64 (Scrolling Shooter, 1997, N64)
*Super Smash Bros. (Fighting Game, 1999, N64)
*Super Smash Bros. Melee (Fighting Game, 2001, GCN)
*Star Fox Adventures (Adventure Game, 2002, GCN)
*Star Fox: Assault (Scrolling Shooter, 2005, GCN)
*Star Fox: Command (2006) for Nintendo DS

Fox also has small cameos in other games, notably Stunt Race FX, where a portrait of him can be found in track-side billboards. In F-Zero GX, a Fox McCloud custom paintjob can be applied to the vehicles. Another cameo is in Super Mario RPG where his Arwing can be seen on a crate.

Love life
In the 1993 Nintendo Power Star Fox comic, Fox had what fans considered to be a romantic relationship with Fara Phoenix. However, many believe that the comics were not official canon, and that the character of Fara Phoenix did not really exist in the Star Fox universe.

In Star Fox Adventures, it was hinted that there was a relationship growing when he met Krystal, (referring to her as "beautiful") and there was some mutual interest shown in Krystal. According to some unused audio in Adventures, Fox and Krystal originally were going to have a much deeper relationship, but this was ultimately scrapped for unknown reasons.

In Star Fox Assault, Krystal and Fox's relationship is advanced (though not a major part of the story). Krystal's affection for Fox can been seen in her constant desire to help Fox, and the way she flirtatiously tells Fox that they "finally have a mission together" during Sauria's invasion. Fox is quite shy about anything personal between the two, stammering if Krystal flirts with him. Fox's affection for Krystal can be most notably seen during the cutscene after the Sauria mission. When Tricky tells Fox to bring Krystal to Sauria on their honeymoon, Fox frantically tells Tricky, "We're not there yet." Tricky playfully points out that Fox just said "yet," resulting in Fox trying to change the subject. Krystal giggled to herself during their conversation, showing that she was entertained and not bothered by this exchange. Obviously they're falling in love with each other, but for now, fans can only guess where the relationship is going until the next installment of the series.

In Star Fox: Command the game's prologue shows that Fox and Krystal had been pursuing a relationship, but Fox broke it off as he did not want to put Krystal in danger. The story path taken by the player depends on what happens to Fox and Krystal's relationship (however, none of the endings in Command are canon so the official future of Fox and Krystal's love life is unknown).

Krystal is a fictional fox character created by Nintendo and Rare for the Nintendo 64 game Dinosaur Planet. Her role in that game was intended to be a playable primary character, but in the revolutionary introduction of the Nintendo GameCube, her role changed. The game Dinosaur Planet was scrapped and its elements were modified and altered into Star Fox Adventures. Her playable status was made short and she became the "damsel in distress" in the game who was trapped because she could channel spirits.

Her popularity has been noticed by Nintendo, and in a joint cooperation effort with Namco, she became a primary character in the Star Fox universe. Krystal's role was advanced when Namco gained permission to reuse her in the video game Star Fox: Assault as a pilot and a playable character in the multiplayer mode. It is in this game that it was introduced that she was a telepath, a fact that was not all too useful in the game, but was used as a cutscene plot device to launch a mission. It also confirmed the romantic connection between her and Star Fox leader, Fox McCloud.

In the game Star Fox Command, it is revealed that Fox and Krystal's relationship blossomed, but Fox was concerned over Krystal's safety and asked her to leave the Star Fox team; upset over his decision, Krystal left Fox and hadn't been seen since. During the course of the game, it was discovered that Krystal joined the Cornerian Army as a pilot, and during the Anglar invasion, joined Star Wolf; somewhere along the way, she started a relationship with Star Wolf's Panther Caruso. The game features multiple, conflicting endings, some of which show Krystal staying with Star Wolf and continuing her relationship with Panther, another has her renaming herself Kursed and becoming a bounty hunter after being driven out of the Lylat System under accusations of betraying Fox. Even more endings have her rejoining Star Fox; one of the endings shows her and Fox settling down to start a family, having a son named Marcus. An interview with two of the game's producers, Q Games' Dylan Cuthbert and Nintendo's Takaya Imamura, suggest that none of the endings are considered canon, and that any sequel will ignore them.

Outside of video games, she is a fairly popular and common character in much erotic furry art.

Trivia
'Krystal sandwich' meme strikes Fur Affinity
Fan research has uncovered several pieces of deleted audio that show that Krystal would have had a bigger role in Star Fox Adventures than in the finished game. These include Krystal shouting warnings to Fox, asking Fox why he saved her without knowing who she was, and even stating that she would join the Star Fox team if Fox would kiss her.

Star Fox is a series of video games started by Nintendo in 1993. It is a very successful series, continuing to draw an avid fan base from most Nintendo gamers to this day. A number of furs claim to have been drawn into the fandom because of this game series, and one instance - Star Fox Adventures - won the 2002 Ursa Major Award for Best Anthropomorphic Game.

Production history
Star Fox
In 1993, Nintendo's feature system, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (or SNES for short) was blessed with the gift of the Super FX graphics chip. This chip, when installed on certain game cartridges, would enable the system to generate and display polygonal 3D sprites and backgrounds which would be a graphical leap potentially larger than that of Final Fantasy VI or Super Mario World. The first game to feature this chip was the premier release of Star Fox, a video game classified as a shooter. It was licensed entirely by Nintendo with the help of Argonaut Software in a contract for three Super FX chip games.

Star Fox was hailed as a marvel of graphics technology at the time, and it took a while for the game to really take off as people dived into its unique world. Nintendo later released a second version of the home game and a limited number of cartridges which were used in the "Weekend Competition". This more competitive version kept track of your score and gave you a limited amount of time in which to play. It also sparked the creation of a wristwatch version of the game which was a promotional item people could get from collecting cereal box tops. Comics and plushies followed and were considered the most important aspect to the game’s universe.

Star Fox 2
In 1995, demand started rising for another game in the series. Nintendo again started work to create a game superior in quality as much as possible. Their efforts included the introduction of all-range stages for the majority of the game, two additional characters named Miyu (replacing the Andross look alike "Saru" from the alpha) and Fay (replacing a Fara look a like named Lady from another alpha version), new ships and ship transformations, a map in which players could literally fly everywhere, new enemies, and the introduction of Star Wolf. This title was tentatively called Star Fox 2 and held promise as a title that would use the improved Super FX 2 chip to control the graphics. This game also included more - and higher quality - synthetic voice clips than its predecessor. However, the release of the Nintendo 64 system promised more capability than the SNES and the Star Fox 2 project was scrapped in its final bug-testing stages and thus was never released outside the beta cartridges that were in the company and the demos that were seen at E3.

These few cartridges were eventually turned into ROMS and distributed across the Internet in its original Japanese form. Patches were eventually made and a more or less final version of this beta game was released on the internet. This release had some rumors attached to it. At one time at the E3 expo that it was a feature in, one avid fan tried to steal the cartridge. He never left the booth with it as he was arrested, but Nintendo dropped charges soon thereafter.

Further, Nintendo had sent out eight copies of the full game to major magazines so they could make a review by release day. When the game was canceled, Nintendo asked for the cartridges to be returned. A few magazine companies complied, and a few did not. One of these cartridges showed up at an auction once and sold for over ten thousand dollars due to the rarity of a complete cartridge. It is from one of these cartridges that the ROM circulating the internet was copied from.

Due to the technical completion of Star Fox 2, the third and final game in the contract, Argonaut Software parted ways with Nintendo and returned to its former productions.

Star Fox 64
Two years later in 1997, after many discussions from Nintendo and sneak previews, Star Fox 64 was released. This was the first game in the series to use voice actors for real-time dialog, the first ever addition of the Rumble Pack to let players "feel" the game (such as when they got hit by enemy fire), and greater levels of detail along with a rework of the sprites and new vehicles.

The system map split the game into three routes similar to the original game, and unlike the original, it allowed players to change routes depending on their performance in the last mission. This made the game more diverse and expansive than before, since the player could pick a path through the enemy lines to get to the final level which in itself had two possible layouts depending on the attack approach the player took.

Unknown to many players however, were the elements of the game which were carried over from Star Fox 2. Star Wolf, the All Range Mode, and the Wolfen were reused from Star Fox 2 and played a pivotal role in the game, as you could not go through the game without having to go through these things at least once. Each mission also carried a score cap which the player had to meet or exceed to get a medal for that stage, with a requirement that the entire team survive. Collecting all the medals for every stage on the map would unlock an expert mode with more enemies, a smarter AI, and the fragility of the Arwing increased. It also had extras for multiplayer mode which could be unlocked for performing certain tasks; all of this gave the game a decent replay value.

Many people use this game as the definition for what is canon in the Star Fox universe. Star Fox 64 was considered the "test dummy" of what the Nintendo 64 could do and was, in simple terms, a remake of the original SNES game.

Dinosaur Planet
Started in late 1999, Dinosaur Planet was intended to be Rare's (a.k.a Rareware) final project for Nintendo before moving on to the GameCube which was called "Project Dolphin" at the time. This game was intended to push the limits of the N64's technology and Rare even had a back story for the game. In fact, they had kept it such a good secret that when they revealed it on the cover of the year 2000 E3 coverage issue of Nintendo Power, the game was closer to completion than many people thought despite the tidbits of information floating around. In fact, they planned to release it in the fourth quarter of 2000.

The game was a tremendous undertaking, having been put on full display at E3 2000 next to Conker's Bad Fur Day, so people visiting the booth knew the game existed. It was slated to be the largest cartridge released for the N64 with a total size of 512Mb. Stores like Best Buy had already started taking pre-orders for the title.

As the game got closer to being released, people began to feel that something was wrong. There was no advertising for the game, no magazine articles, no previews, not a single thing. The game had more or less evaporated. And sure enough, much like Star Fox 2, the game was at a stage of final bug testing when it was canceled. It seemed that the main character had a resemblance very close to Fox McCloud, a major primary character in the Star Fox series. Also, around that same time Nintendo was working on an adventure game that was to take place on an unspecified planet in the Lylat System. The title wasn't decided and the game wasn't even playable yet so a lot was still in the air. Nintendo wanted to get the game out before the GameCube was launched and unfortunately it appeared that it wasn't going to happen. In their attempts to get the game out, they began to look for complete or near-complete projects that they could convert into what they wanted. Since Rare was a second party, Nintendo had a considerable influence on them and convinced Rare to convert the game into what would later be called Star Fox Adventures: Dinosaur Planet.

Unfortunately, the executives at Rare were torn on the decision. Half the company was for this conversion while half were against it. However, since Nintendo had pulled their title, they missed their launch window for that year and there was no feasible way to market their game in the next year because the GameCube was being released as the replacement for the Nintendo 64. Dinosaur Planet was thus officially canceled then, and the conversion process began.

Star Fox Adventures
Due to increasing stress between Nintendo and Rare at that point, Rare felt insulted that Nintendo hadn't put up any official advertisement effort into their last project: Conker's Bad Fur Day. This was in part due to the fact that the game ran in total contrast to the image Nintendo wanted. Further, the game got little to no publicity because the game's main character was a protagonist who drank, cussed, and urinated in addition to making numerous sex jokes- what little publicity it did garner was negative. This had soured relations with Nintendo a bit and proved to be a bumpy ride for fans everywhere.

Nintendo wanted the now renamed "Star Fox Adventures" to be a GameCube launch title, but it was already 2002 and the system had been out for at least six months. New games were getting hard to come by, just as with the Nintendo 64, and it was not a good image that was being projected.

There had been a few big guns prepared for the fall season which included Metroid Prime and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. They chose to put Star Fox Adventures into this lineup, although there was a drawback to this kind of power play in that there was almost nothing of value that had been released so far that year except for Sonic Adventure 2: Battle. With everything starting to hit at the same time, Nintendo was competing with itself and Wind Waker was delayed till 2003. The official reason given for the delay was "translation issues" although unofficially, people believed it was to avoid overshadowing the holiday season.

In the graphical position, Star Fox Adventures was a masterpiece. The Rare team managed to pull off "fur shading" which let characters have a colored wire frame fur that would react to the environment around them, such as sway in the wind and move their faces and tails, something which Microsoft claimed that only Xbox could do and was eventually done on the Xbox in the remake of Bad Fur Day, Conker: Live and Reloaded. It added a tremendous degree of realism and naturalness to the game that no other game of the time could manage. The cinematic scenes allowed the story to be fleshed out and were choreographed with the animators and musicians to create a movie-like level of quality and depth.

Most of the music for Star Fox Adventures was ported from the N64 version of Dinosaur Planet and enhanced in places to allow for the GameCube's additional sound chip. The remaining music was newly composed to be streamed from the disc through live recordings during the cinematics. All of this was managed by David Wise of Donkey Kong Country fame. Gameplay was like a modified version of the N64 Zelda title Ocarina of Time. Some people complained about that, but others enjoyed it. It was quite a departure from Rare's portfolio of games, which were mostly extensive yet well done item quests.

People wondered why Falco wasn't in the game until the very end of the story and some grew angry about it, demanding to know why he was missing in the first place. In the technical view, there wasn't enough time to work him into the main story, but from the creative standpoint a comic was released by Nintendo of Japan to cover Falco's lack of involvement and to bridge the gap between Star Fox 64 and Star Fox Adventures, which was meant to happen after the SF64 timeline. Unfortunately, it was released after the US version of Adventures had hit store shelves.

After the release of Star Fox Adventures, Rare parted ways with Nintendo to work under Microsoft and have produced a number of games for both the Xbox and Xbox 360. They have also continued to make a number of smaller titles for the Gameboy Advance.

Star Fox: Assault
During a brief conflict with Rare over Star Fox Adventures, Nintendo had been working on a new GameCube title as a direct follow-up of the story from Star Fox 64. They were not planning for the dispute with Rare to end with Nintendo winning the copyrights to Krystal, Tricky, and the other original cast for Star Fox Adventures: this new game was going to be a single-player arcade version of Star Fox 64, yet another remake. However, through luck and their legal department, this game project was scrapped and started over from the ground up. The result was that only one poster for the arcade game was released and only the multiplayer was available for review at E3 2003.

This time around, though, Nintendo contracted Namco to be the new home of Star Fox, and Namco started working on the newest chapter in Star Fox history. Since Nintendo had won the rights to the Star Fox Adventures characters, Namco was able to continue down the path that Rare had begun in Star Fox Adventures, including being able to use Krystal. This caused a setback in the development time and the game was pushed back by at least a year. The new game was to be a story-driven shooter that had ground-based missions thrown into the game's structure and design.

The game's single-player debut made its appearance during the E3 2004 Media Press Conference, and was fully playable on the show floor the very next day. It was proof that Namco could bring the Star Fox franchise together and fans could continue on what is considered one of the longest running and most celebrated space shooters in gaming history. At the time though, the game didn't have a name and it was being simply called Star Fox Triforce. A year afterward, the name was changed to Star Fox Armada since the game's major focus had been shifted into the story, but it was again renamed simply to Star Fox 2 which was the name of the unreleased SNES predecessor. When fans became confused, it was clarified that this game and the unreleased SNES game had nothing in common except for the name. At E3 2004, the name changed again, this time to Star Fox - Coming This Fall. It was a humorous name, but it conveyed to the fans that Nintendo had no clue what they were really going to call the game.

After one last name change, Namco finally released Star Fox: Assault to store shelves in February of 2005. It was intended to be released Christmas of 2004, but they had a delay due to fan requests that the game have a LAN mode. This required a total overhaul of the multiplayer engine and thus the option never saw the light of day. Fans had been waiting long enough for the next flight adventure, and Namco was not willing to risk negative publicity and another E3 showoff since there were already two such showings under that game's belt; thus it hit the shelves without the LAN ability. However, some interesting notes about the game point out that the main enemy presence in the story resembles that of the Borg from Star Trek. It was a humorous similarity in demeanor and goals.

Star Fox: Command
In August 2006, Nintendo released Star Fox: Command for the Nintendo DS. Command marks the first time the Star Fox series has ever been on a Nintendo handheld or had online multiplayer. Developed by Kyoto based developer Q-Games, Command is in many ways a revival of the cancelled Star Fox 2 (Q-Games was formed by many of the ex-Argonaut Software development teams that worked on Star Fox and Star Fox 2).

The story takes place some time after the events of Assault and the Star Fox team has split up, with Fox and ROB 64 being the only remnants of Star Fox left.
A new threat has invaded the Lylat System: the Anglar, a race of anthropomorphic fish aliens from the acidic seas of Venom who's intention is to rule the Lylat System by attacking all of the planets in it. When the Anglar attack Fox's homeworld of Corneria, he begins to attack the Anglar forces.

Throughout the game players meet up with both new characters (like Peppy's daughter Lucy Hare) and old ones. (Bill Grey and Katt Monroe make their first appearance since Star Fox 64) The game features various branching pathways which the player can choose at various points in the game. This also marks the first time that you can play as characters other than Fox in single player. The game contains over 30 missions and 9 different endings. Players can only go on one path at the beginning of the game but after getting the first ending the player will gain a "Key of Destiny" which can be used only once each new play-through to go on a different path.

The game is a revival of Star Fox 2 in terms of gameplay as the development team felt like going back to that game and updating many of the gameplay aspects for Command to better fit the Nintendo DS. All aircraft controls (with the exception of shooting lasers) take place on the touch screen while the action itself takes place on the upper screen in all-range mode styled fights.

On an interesting note, Star Fox: Command does contain references and cameos for the F-Zero series (a futuristic racing series also done by Nintendo), which has, in turn, made references to the Star Fox series by way of the character James McCloud, who looks stunningly like the character, though human.

Characters
spoiler

These are the named characters from the Star Fox series. Although some had fairly limited roles, they each had a part in shaping the storyline, and in some cases, the gameplay.

Team Star Fox
* James McCloud: James is rarely seen in the games and is Fox's father as clarified in Star Fox 64. He was presumed killed by Andross, and this death is what motivates Fox during portions of the game. In the SNES comics, James was reported as KIA during the creation of a black hole by the premature detonation of a bomb which Andross made, while in Star Fox 64, James was betrayed by his teammate Pigma Dengar, resulting in his capture. He was then given to Andross who killed him. At the end of Star Fox 64, James' phantom guides Fox out of Andross's exploding base, thus saving him from certain death. He makes an appearance in Star Fox: Assault, with his voice being manipulated by the Aparoid Queen. He next appears as a playable character in "Star Fox Command" in the "Dash Makes A Choice" stage, which questions his actual "death."

* Fox McCloud: The main character in the series. Fox is the chief pilot of the mercenary group called Star Fox. He takes his father's death very personally and at times it drives him into irrational fits of rage. When he's not in such a fit, he is a highly skilled pilot and calls the shots for the team. During the events of Star Fox 64, it is implied that his biggest difficulty, at the age of 18, is to gain the trust of his comrades, but shows himself to be a competent and skilled leader whom gains respect from them all.

* Falco Lombardi: A hotheaded blue falcon who was almost kicked out of the Cornerian Air Force. He's brash, cocky, and speaks with a Brooklyn accent- it is referenced several times in various comics and games that he was a member of a gang known as the Hot Rodders. He is also Fox's best friend and leaves the military to fly with him. He believes himself to be the best pilot in the system and often tries to one-up Fox, which sometimes backfires and lands him in trouble.

* Slippy Toad: Slippy is the mechanic of the team, and also the most trouble-prone. His piloting skills are lacking and he gets enemies on his tail quite often because of his ineptitude at dog fighting- he makes up for this with his technological aptitude, enemy shield analysis during combat, and steadfast courage even when obviously fearful. Most incarnations of him make him appear whiny and irritating, a subject for the fans' occasional comments that he be thrown out an airlock and forgotten. At one point his gender was questioned and a VG Cats comic was released to make light of it. In Star Fox Assault however, he takes on a more masculine voice and becomes less whiny, a respite that was welcomed- amusingly, he also tends to get his girl faster than Fox does.

* Peppy Hare: A middle-aged hare which serves as the team's eldest and wisest member. He represents the common sense of the Star Fox team and tempers their skill and eagerness into something useful. After the events of Star Fox 64, he retires from flying to be a mapmaker and consultant to the team, giving advice to Fox and acting as a father figure throughout the series, not just in terms of battle and warfare, but additional wisdom in terms of trust, friendship and (in reference to Fox and Krystal) the importance of love. After the events of Star Fox: Assault, General Pepper steps down from his position as General, and Peppy takes up the reins, generally cited as a determined, wise and beneficial military figure.

* Krystal: Originally the Damsel in Distress from Star Fox Adventures, she joined the team after her rescue and became a pilot. Her telepathic abilities were used as a plot device in Star Fox Assault and it was hinted through the cutscenes of Star Fox Adventures and Star Fox Assault that she and Fox are attracted to each other in a romance, though it is only directly mentioned once in Assault in one cutscene where Tricky and Fox argue over it, much to Krystal's amusement. She tends to hold Fox in high regard, as both a friend and leader, and is a skilled enough pilot to hold her own in space combat- throughout Assault, she is attacked less than the other members of the team. She is also not against taking the fight on foot, and shows skill in closequarters combat with firearms- it's implied that she is skilled with her staff, as well. She does have personal flaws, however, and during the events leading to those of Command, makes snap decisions that some endings have her regretting (though, the next game will probably take place in the middle of Command).

* Miyu: Not much is known about this character except for being a lynx. She is also one of two female characters that joined the Star Fox team in the Star Fox 2 plot. Neither she nor Fay are seen in any other games aside from the SNES Star Fox 2.

* Fay: Not much is known about this character except for being a poodle. She is also one of two female characters that joined the Star Fox team in the Star Fox 2 plot. Neither she nor Miyu are seen in any other games aside from the SNES Star Fox 2.

Friendly characters
* General Pepper: The head of the Cornerian Defense Force. He's a hound dog with a good many years in his name and wisdom to go with it. In some comics he was James McCloud's friend and had to be the bearer of bad news. In Assault, he becomes a victim of the game's main enemy and is used as a literal weapon against Star Fox. Later, he retires from his position as General due to undetailed circumstances, presumably illness.

* Beltino Toad: Slippy's father and the major designer of the Arwing, Star Fox's primary vehicle. He is the head CEO of Aerospace Dynamics (sometimes called Arspace Dynamics) and made his appearance as an adviser briefly in Star Fox Assault; he personally ran the Orbital Gate jump gate facility. He was the designer of the destruct virus Star Fox used to vanquish the Aparoid Queen on its home world.

* Bill Grey: One of Fox's friends in Star Fox 64. Bill Grey is a gray dog believed to be either a greyhound or husky and an elite pilot of the Cornerian Air Force. He was assigned as the captain of the Katina Defense Force and crosses paths with Fox on Katina during the attack on Katina, and again during the Solar mission or alternatively during the Sector X mission, depending on the path the player takes. At first, he has a surfer-like attitude and accent, but in Star Fox Command, that was changed to that of a stereotypical cowboy

* Katt Monroe: Katt Monroe is a pink feline that has a crush on Falco Lombardi up until Star Fox Command, a crush that Falco was not fond of and finally put an end to before the events of Star Fox Command. Seen only in Star Fox 64 and a focal point in a comic concerning Starfox, she assists the team on Zoness in her own customized stolen Invader III space fighter, Sector Z, and alternatively on Macbeth depending on the path the player takes. Sometime between the events of Star Fox 64 and Command, her fur is changed to that of dark brown, in an orange flightsuit, and her demeanor has changed from flirty to outgoing and brash.

* Tricky: Tricky is the dinosaur prince from Star Fox Adventures. Fox is convinced early on to bring him along for much of the game, though there are several areas where Tricky cannot follow. He proves to be a rather useful assistant- he later succeeds his father's position as ruler of Sauria, and is considered by Fox, at least, to be an honorary member of the team.

* Amanda: Amanda is Slippy's fiancee, who makes her debut in Star Fox: Command. She pilots a fighter called the "Tadpole", and tends to worry about Slippy, at some points coming to help him out. One of the endings in Command shows Amanda joining Star Fox as a member, however its possible this ending may not be canon.

* Lucy Hare: Lucy Hare is Peppy's daughter who makes her debut in Star Fox: Command. She is a physics teacher who teaches on the planet Fichina, which is where she is found in the game. She pilots a fighter called the "Sky Bunny" and at one point Command you can choose to go to Corneria as Lucy, eventually saving Corneria from an Anglarian sneak attack (with help from Krystal, Katt, and Amanda).

* Dash Bowman: Dash is a young ape in the Cornerian Air Force and a child prodigy who makes his debut in Star Fox: Command. He pilots a fighter called the "Monkey Arrow" and shows up in the story of Command at different points. It is revealed that Dash is in fact the grandson of Andross and he wishes to continue where his grandfather left off, but this time for good (or so he says). One ending has Dash restoring Venom and being at peace with Corneria. Another has him turning to the path of conquest of Lylat, taking up his grandfather's place and using their new resources to begin constructing an army; another has him joining Falco Lombardi's Star Falcon unit.

*Fara Pheonix: Fara is Fox McCloud's girlfriend in the original Star Fox comic. However, Andross had mistaken her for Vixy Reinard, Fox's mother, due to wearing the wedding dress Vixy used to own. This led to a kind of confessional that enraged Fox and resulted in the discreet retreat of Andross from the battlefield.

*Vixy Reinard: Fox's mother in the original comic and even then only seen in a photograph in Fox's room. Andross had affections for her, and he despised the fact that she was married to James. In an effort to correct that problem, Andross planted a bomb in James' car in an effort to get rid of him. The plan went horribly wrong when Vixy got into the car instead of James, setting off the bomb and killing her.

Team Star Wolf
* Wolf O'Donnell: The lead pilot of the Star Wolf mercenary team. In almost every regard, he is essentially Fox's rival. This is not to say, however, that Wolf represents evil - indeed, several times throughout the storyline Wolf instead aids Fox and the Lylat system, though his motives seem to be financial or challenge-based in nature. Fan fiction stories mostly set the stage for this rivalry by describing that he may have been Fox's friend in the Cornerian Flight Academy, a friendship that somehow grew strained and eventually broke as they became rivals and Wolf left the academy for various reasons - fanon often has Fox responsible for Wolf's missing eye, which may also be a reason for this rivalry. He is hired by Andross to be a countermeasure to the Star Fox team and given the Wolfen star fighter, which was meant to be superior to Star Fox's Arwing - later, after defeat at their hands, Andross commissions several successors to the Wolfen in the form of the Wolfen II starfighter, technologically superior to the Arwing, making their second defeat that much more bitter. Out of all the Star Wolf members he is worth the most money on the wanted poster, implying he is the best pilot of Star Wolf.

* Leon Powalski: A chameleon with a grudge. He is often described as Falco's counterpart, if only for his soft-spoken, yet cold and chilling, demeanor. Fanon often has him described as violent and cruel to a degree that even puts Wolf on the back foot. It is implied that he may also work as an assassin and torturer, and may have a long history with Falco from his Hot Rodder days. His ship in Command is a modified Wolfen whose unique cannon charges and tracks enemies to a rather annoying degree. Out of the Star Wolf members, his bounty is worth the least cash on the wanted poster, which is surprising, if only for the fact that he has been a member since Wolf formed the team.

* Panther Caroso: Pigma's replacement after he left Star Wolf. Panther is naturally a Panther, not to mention a ladies' man who tends to target Krystal with little to no effect. His first appearance is in Star Fox Assault as a skilled pilot who would apparently do better if not for his flagrant habit of wooing females in general. He was quoted saying that "All who see my rose meet death", implying that he uses a rose as his calling card upon victory over another. During Command, he tends to show flagrant self-absorption that leads him to speak in 3rd person, and pilots a modified Wolfen with a powerful, if slow, single-shot laser cannon. Out of the Star Wolf members he is worth the second most on the wanted poster, implying he is the second best pilot in Team Star Wolf, and somehow more dangerous than even Leon. He seeks a romantic relationship with Krystal, with one non-canonical ending leading to this outcome. Panther is often incorrectly portrayed as a womanizer who only wants for Krystal for her body in fanfics. Star Fox Command disproves this, showing Panther does indeed truly love Krystal, though probably not as Fox does.

Enemy characters
* Andross: The major final boss for most of the Star Fox titles. He is an ape that was kicked out of the Cornerian Defense Force's Research and Development division when his experiments turned monstrous and dangerous - it is also implied in comics that it is he who was responsible for the death of Fox's mother, by way of a car bomb originally meant for James McCloud. His sanity was questioned and when he finally snapped, they banished him to the barren planet named Venom, where he raised an army and attempted to take over the Lylat System. Fox McCloud and Star Fox were hired by General Pepper in the first two released games to take him down, and in Star Fox Adventures, Fox ran into Andross again when he revealed himself to the younger pilot atop the Krazoa Palace.

* Pigma Dengar: Pigma is Peppy's own personal nemesis. He used to be a wing mate in the Star Fox team until Pigma sold them out to Andross, allowing James and Peppy to be captured in the Star Fox 64 storyline. He is a very greedy swine whose love of money is exceeded only in his care for his own life. In short, his greed and selfishness make him unreliable - a characteristic that lead to Wolf severing connections between him and the team (though in "Star Fox Command", he still considers them his friend, enough to spare their lives during their boss battle with him). In Star Fox Assault Pigma is a storyline plot device used to progress the story until he is turned into a boss and is apparently killed by Star Fox in an asteroid belt. During the events of Command, it is discovered that he was NOT killed, as was originally thought, until Falco Lombardi finally eradicated the Aparoid-infected threat.

* Andrew Oikonny: Andrew is Slippy's counterpart, weak and simple-minded. His comments have more bark than his lasers have bite. While he may not be nearly as whiny or weak as Slippy used to be, he is still a pushover in most respects, and unlike Slippy, his demeanor becomes no less annoying or different as the series progress. In Star Fox Assault, he manages to gain control of the remnants of Andross's army and names himself Emperor of the Lylat System just before his ship is destroyed by a plasma beam from an unknown alien from above. Later, during Command, he becomes a cronie for the Anglar forces, and considers himself to be superior to all opposition, despite the fact that he fights as an underling.

* General Scales: The main villain of Star Fox Adventures. He was manipulated by Andross at one point to give Fox the Krazoa spirit he held. Before that point though, he was the unquestioned tyrant who sought to rule Dinosaur Planet with fear and his literal iron claw. He even meets Fox a few times and interferes with Fox's attempts to restore the planet to its whole form. Although the needed stones were put in place, the Krazoa spirits were needed to put the planet back together; this is where Scales interfered by capturing a spirit, which resulted in Andross's intervention and lead to his uneventful and unceremonious death.

* Emperor Anglar: The main villain of Star Fox: Command. Spawned from the seas of Venom, his intentions are a lot like that of Andross: rule the Lylat System by attack all of the planets with his army. The fight against his usually consists of 2 parts: first destroying his attack ship (Spaerhead) and then attacking him directly by first destroying his protective orbs and then attacking his red glowing "lantern" on his head.

* General Shears: A villain that appeared in the Star Fox comic that took place between Star Fox 64 and Star Fox: Adventures. Shears was in command of a Research base on Titania, which discovered a genetic remnant of Andross. The general went mad, hatching a plan to revive Andross. However, Katt Monroe and her team discovered this plan, and tried to stop him. She even managed to contact Falco for assistance. At this time, Star Fox was called by Shears about Katt and the others, misleading them by saying they were servants of Andross. His deception led to a dogfight between Fox and Falco, while Andross' revival was underway. After some explaining, Fox entered the base in a attempt to stop Shears; but it was too late. Andross had awoken, killed the General, and attempted to kill Fox. Luckily, they managed to escape and destroy the base. After they left, Andrew Oikonny arrived to save his dying uncle, and instructed him to take him to Sauria.
Neopets is an online virtual pet simulation game. The site was opened to the public November 15, 1999 by Adam Powell and Donna Williams, but the company was bought by Doug Dohring soon after being created. Currently it is owned by Viacom and valued at USD 160 million.

* Address: http://www.neopets.com

As of January 2006, there are 53 Neopet species available. Most species resemble real animals — for example, the Nimmo is a stylized frog, both the Zafara and the Blumaroo are kangaroo-like, the Kougra is tiger-like, and the Pteri is a bird. There are also Neopets versions of popular fantasy creatures, such as dragons (Draiks, Scorchios) and unicorns (Unis).

Users can customize their pets by selecting gender, colour (these colours can be changed later with expensive paint brushes, ranging from shadow and ghost to disco and white), personality, and name (provided another user hasn't already chosen the name). Players must take care of and feed their pets (although Neopets will never die or starve to death). They can also read books and battle in a style akin to popular games such as Pokémon. Neglecting a Neopet will result in its unhappiness, which may have consequences such as turning blue if it's sad, or red if it's angry. Neopets is constantly introducing new content such as games, items, and storylines.

As with all Internet communities, there is possible danger in giving personal information to strangers. Therefore, players who register as under 13 must submit a document by fax or letter with a parent's signature to the website's address in order to access any of the site's communication features, in compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act. As on many other sites, some users under the age of 13 are angered by this.

Neopets now produces a range of merchandise, including plushies, stickers, clothing, two video games Neopets: The Darkest Faerie, Neopets: Petpet Adventures: The Wand of Wishing and a trading card game. The site has sparked many controversies such as those surrounding the existence of gambling-themed games, the extensive use of immersive advertising, and the Scientology beliefs of the CEO, Doug Dohring.

Company information
In May 2004, Nielsen/Net Ratings reported that people were spending around three hours a month on Neopets, more than any other site in its Nielsen category. By May 2005, a Neopets-affiliated video game producer cited about 35 million unique users, 11 million unique IP addresses per month, and 4 billion web page views per month. This producer also described 20% of the users as 18 or older, with the median of the remaining 80% at about 14. . More recently, in 1 August 2006 Neopets reported over 123 million accounts, and over 184 million pets (each account can have a maximum of 4 pets and some users have several accounts). Updated statistics may be found on the Neopets "Pet Central" Page. However, there is some doubt over the veracity of these statistics (see "Controversy" below). Tiffany Nguyen is currently known as the richest person on Neopets.

Although the company is based in the United States, its founders are British and the site retains British English spellings (though there are some exceptions). In addition to English, as of July 2006 the site is available translated (with varying degrees of completeness) into ten other languages: Dutch, Portuguese, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Chinese-simplified, Chinese-traditional, Japanese and Korean. Neopets Inc. also operates an Asian branch, which is partially owned by Green Dot Capital, a subsidiary of the investment vehicle of the Government of Singapore, Temasek Holdings.

On June 20, 2005, Viacom stated that it had bought Neopets in a deal that has been valued at approximately $160 million . According to Viacom, Dohring, the current CEO of Neopets, along with other Neopets senior managers, will continue to hold their positions after the acquisition has been completed.

Environment
The game takes place on (or in orbit around) the planet of Neopia. The main setting is Neopia Central, where the main stores are found. There are also various "themed" worlds: Tyrannia (prehistoric), Faerieland ([[faeries), Mystery Island (Tropical), Haunted Woods (Halloween/spooky), Krawk Island (pirates), Lost Desert (Ancient Egypt), New Maraqua (Underwater), Terror Mountain (Winter/Christmas), Virtupets Space Station (Space Station), Kreludor (Moon), Meridell (Medieval), Brightvale (Renaissance), Altador (Classical), Shenkuu (Oriental) and Lutari Island (Tribal).

There are also mini worlds and sub-worlds, such as Roo Island, Neovia, Kiko Lake, and The Lost City of Geraptiku. Each of these worlds (which are really more like "regions") has unique shops, games, and other activities based on its theme. Each world may contain several different regions; for example, the world Terror Mountain has three parts: Happy Valley, Ice Caves, and Terror Mountain.

These worlds are usually introduced through in-game plots that involve their "discovery" or "destruction". For example, Maraqua was originally destroyed by Captain Dread and his pirates in one storyline, but has been rebuilt, reopened, and saved from the pirate Lupe Captain Scarblade as a result of the "Curse of Maraqua" storyline. In the Lost Desert Plot, the city of Qasala was discovered in the Lost Desert and the city of Sakhmet was made accessible. Altador was discovered during an Altador plot, Neovia was discovered during the Tale of Woe plot and Shenkuu was discovered during its own mini-plot.

Lutari Island (Tribal) is only accessible after signing up to Neopets Cellular, which is a pay service for accessing Neopets on a Cell/Mobile Phone.

As of July 2006, Jelly World () is the only world in Neopia that is inaccessible via the main world map. The existence of Jelly World is consistently denied by the Neopets staff (as a joke), despite all of the references to it such as a Jelly World neoboard which can't be accessed regularly and Jelly World related games (Jelly Blobs of Doom and Bouncy Supreme) which can be accessed from certain game related links. However, on the Neopets toolbar the Free Jelly icon links directly to Jelly World.

In June 24 2006, the map was updated so that players could access the previously unseen side of the planet Neopia.

Gameplay
There are many activities Neopets players can do to advance towards their goals. They can train their pets to become fighters, and participate in the wars that occur (usually when new worlds are "discovered"), or fight against the regular battledome NPCs and other players' pets. Players can become merchants or collectors of rare and expensive items. Players can submit their artwork or writing, and can be rewarded for their creativity and skill with a trophy placed on their user lookup and neopoints.

Until November 25, 2006, when the games room got a revamp, most of the games on the site were divided into three categories: Puzzle, Action, and Luck/Chance.

Puzzle games are those that require thought and often language or mathematical skills. For example, in "Spell-or-Starve", a player must spell as many words as possible in a limited time by clicking the letters on the screen. Action games are arcade-like games. In "Hannah and the Ice Caves", a player guides the characters Hannah and her sidekick Armin through increasingly difficult icy caves, while collecting treasure and avoiding snow beasts. The Luck/Chance category includes various slot machine games such as "Brucey B. Slots", and other gambling-themed games. Card games and a game based on hide-and-seek are also part of Luck/Chance.

Flash or Shockwave games
On November 23, it was announced in the News that a section of the site was going to be revamped. On November 24, it was revealed that the section to be revamped was the Games section. On November 25, the Games section's new avatar announced that he had a challenge on offer to all neopians, which involves playing a set list of Flash games (submitting a score of at least 50 for each one), finding hidden games to send scores in, sending challenge cards and, of course, the mystery challenges.
Most of the games on the site are Flash or Shockwave games, which require the user to have certain software installed on the computer. Many are similar to older existing games&mdash;for example, "Meerca Chase 1 and 2" are very similar to Snake, while "Korbat's Lab" and "Frumball" are like Breakout and Arkanoid. Also, Flycatcher is based on the game Millipede.
A player may submit achieved game scores for each Flash game up to three times a day. The exception to this is during Neopets birthday week 15 November-22), when a player is allowed to submit up to five game scores a day. There is also a new game - acara-advision - which requires you to view a short advertisement, then spin a wheel for Neopoints up to 5 times a day. However, many users do not consider this to be a game. Up to a maximum of 1,000 Neopoints can be earned per each score sent, thus allowing users to score 3000 Neopoints if they are good and dedicated at it. Users may earn trophies if they score high, or message board avatars from a select variety of games. They can also participate in World Challenges for the chance to win more rewards.

There is a different game featured every day. When a player achieves a score with the Featured Game, the amount of Neopoints usually given for that score is doubled. The usual maximum winnings is also doubled, allowing players to win up to 2,000 Neopoints each time they play. A Lucky Space Faerie Charm, one of the rewards for referring people to Neopets Premium, can also randomly double a player's Neopoint winnings.

Sponsor Games
Neopets is sponsored by a number of organizations, businesses and companies, and therefore there are a number of sponsor games. Sponsor games come and go from the site, and are often wiped from the site completely long before actual Neopet's games are. They have no high score tables, but are often easy relative to Neopet's games.

Other games
There are also numerous PHP web-based games (which are more accessible to players with slower computers), such as "NeoQuest", "Plushie Tycoon", and card games like "Pyramids", "Scarab 21" and "Neopets Blackjack". NeoQuest and NeoQuest II (2) are classic role playing games in which users play a certain character and travel around a world, fighting monsters and performing quests. Plushie Tycoon is a business-running simulation, in which the player must manufacture and sell Neopets plushies. There is also a daily crossword ("Faerie Crossword"), a dice game ("Dice-a-roo", which is no longer playable by users under 13 years old to avoid any gambling accusations), and a Neopets version of Minesweeper ("Neggsweeper").

Any user may issue a "game challenge" to another user for a two-player game, such as "Kacheekers" or "Armada" or "Geos."

Trophy Reset
At around midnight Neopets Standard Time (GMT-8) on the first day of each month, many of the game leaderboards are wiped. This means that many users can earn trophies with relatively low scores, compared with the middle or end of the month. Many users make a habit out of earning many trophies this way. However, the fact that they are wiped around midnight means that countries like the USA and Canada are at an extreme disadvantage. Many of them are asleep, yet some may stay up. Users in Eastern Asia and Australia are best set for trophy reset, on the other hand.

Advent Calendar
The Advent Calendar is only active during the Month of Celebrating (December). On each day of the month, a user can visit the Advent Calendar in Happy Valley and watch a colourful animation and collect a prize, which is usually an item, neopoints and/or an avatar.

Plots
Major Neopets plots are usually presented in a comic book-styled form, and sometimes lead to a "war". Once the plot reaches a certain point, players may be given the option to choose a side to support. Those who choose to fight are given a series of opponents in the Battledome, and they may fight to gain points for their side. Players receive prizes for their participation at the end of every plot. Depending on how well they did, their prize can be common and cheap or rare and expensive. The Neopoints that come with selling prizes drive many players to complete the plots.

Many Neopian plots are used to release new worlds or features on the site.

One Neopian arch-villain, Dr. Sloth, was prominently featured in several site-wide plots. His greatest achievements were his enslavement of the Grundos, an alien-like species, and his creation of Transmogrification Potions, which change a Neopet into the mutant "colour" of a certain species. This is supposed to be evil, but the transmogrification potions are highly sought after because of their relative inexpensiveness compared to other morphing potions, especially when the specified species of the potion is 'limited edition' or 'restricted' (such as the Draik, Krawk, Hissi, and Cybunny).

Collections
Players can choose to collect certain items — often rare and expensive — and display them in a "gallery". They may also collect collectible cards, trading cards (not to be confused with the actual Neopets trading cards), stamps, coins, and sea shells, and display them in albums.

"Neohomes" can be built after a user buys a plot of land. Each room costs Neopoints to build, and furniture may be put in and arranged. Extensions such as lighting, flooring, and insurance can also be purchased. Players may try to win awards for their Neohomes or collections. The address of a neohome, once built, can only be changed after demolishing all rooms and/or gardens, losing all neopoints spent on them, and selling the address back to the bank.

Quests
There are many types of quests, in which the user must retrieve certain items for a non-playable character in exchange for a reward. Most Faerie Quests are given out through random events while browsing the site, while the user may volunteer for other quests.

Random Faerie Quests are given by one of many faeries: the faeries are Fire, Light, Earth, Air, Dark, and Water, the Unique Faeries (Fountain and Space), and the Faerie Queen. While browsing the site, the user may encounter a faerie though a random event and be asked for an item associated with her (like clothes, trading cards, etc.). To make such quests more challenging, users cannot use the Shop Wizard to quickly search through user-owned shops while they are still on the quests. Users must find the items through auctions, the trading post, or ask others for help (e.g. on the Help NeoBoard). Most of the faeries will select one of the user's four pets randomly and raise one of its statistics. The Fire Faerie increases a pet's strength by two, the Light Faerie increases level by one, the Earth Faerie feeds and heals the pet, the Air Faerie raises speed by two, the Dark Faerie increases hit points by two, the Water Faerie increases defence by two, and the Space Faerie increases level by four. The powerful Faerie Queen provides a total of seven stats, raising level by one, hitpoints by three, and strength by three.

Receiving and completing a Fountain Faerie quest is usually very difficult. The quest is a very rare event, and the faerie usually asks for a highly expensive item. But, after the user completes her quest, the Fountain Faerie allows one of the pets to be painted to almost any colour (with the exception of Ice, MSP, Royal, Sponge and Robot).

Neopians can also go to Jhudora's Cloud or Illusen's Glade for quests with various prizes according to how many quests the user has previously completed. For these, the player is allowed to use the Shop Wizard, but must find the item within a time limit. The more quests the user completes, the better the rewards are, but the faeries also demand rarer and more expensive items. Failure to retrieve the item on time resets the quest and brings the player back to level one, with its cheaper prizes. After completing a quest for Jhudora or Illusen, users cannot do either of their quests for another 12 hours, and after 50 completed quests there are no more reward items.

The Esophagor, Edna the Witch, the Water Chef, the Brain Tree, and the Snow Faerie also give quests upon request. The Shop Wizard can be used to find items for these. Users often only do the quests when the required items are within a certain price range, to avoid spending more than their potential reward.

Avatars
On Neopets, avatars are small icons that can be used on Neopian message boards to represent a player. Unlike many forums, the players on Neopets cannot upload their own avatars and must use those provided by the website. Usually, one or more will be released every week. In addition to the default avatars, there are currently 338 secret avatars that can be unlocked, usually by performing a task such as getting a high score at a game, visiting a particular page, happening upon some random event, owning a pet of a certain color, species, or age, or equipping their pets with a special weapon. Some avatars may require the completion of multiple tasks, or even be given out through random events, while others (such as those earned for past plots) are retired and no longer attainable. Some are seasonal, only obtainable on certain days of the year, like April Fool's Day. In a few cases, there are avatars which cannot be obtained if a collector has its "twin" or "sister" avatar. There is a high score list that ranks users according to the number of avatars they have collected, and help sites exist for collectors to keep track of avatars and tasks still needed. Additionally there is also an avatar that is only available to the administrators of the site, known as Theneopetsteam.

Sidebars
A sidebar is the navigational tool to the left and top sides of the screen that is used while browsing the Neopets website. The default sidebar is star-decorated and yellow, which is seen when a user creates a new account or when using the site not logged in. However, there are also secret sidebars to unlock and collect, similar to avatars. But unlike avatars, there are far fewer in comparison, although as of late, many more have been released. Since it is a rather short list, the sidebars will be listed here along with the method of obtaining them:<br />
* Altadorian Constellations - Complete the Altador mini-plot, then collect the prizes from King Altador in the Council chamber. The plot is staying open until further notice to allow others to finish it.<br>
* Altador Cup (retired) - Send in at least one score, whether a win, tie, or loss, during the Altador Cup. It did not matter whether or not the user's selected team lost, or if they did not select a new team when their team lost.<br>
* Birthday - This sidebar is special in the sense that it cannot be kept. It is the automatic default sidebar on November 15th (Neopets' birthday) every year, and also on the day that the user sets as their birthdate while creating their account. Once these days pass, the sidebar is gone.<br>
* Curse of Maraqua (retired) - Spend one prize point on the sidebar from the selection of prizes available once the Curse of Maraqua plot ends. Although it is retired, this sidebar is still available for collecting by users who have earned at least one point in the plot but did not collect prizes.<br>
* Cyodrake's Gaze (retired) - For a very limited time, users were given the chance to answer some questions regarding the disappearance of a character named Hoban during the Cyodrake's Gaze mini-plot. A short time later, only people who guessed at least one question correctly, aside from a freebie question, received this sidebar and an avatar.<br>
* Haunted Woods - Go to or refresh at any page on the Neopets website during the minute of 11:59:00 PM Neopian Standard Time on October 31. It was previously awarded as a prize for winning Random Contest #1.<br>
* Premium - Once a Premium member, refer five people to the Premium service. These five people must stay past the 15-day trial in order for you to qualify for the sidebar. If you cancel your Premium service, the sidebar remains, but once you change it at Site Preferences, the Premium sidebar is removed from your collection.<br>
* Qasalan (retired) - Although retired, this sidebar is still available for collection if a user has completed at least one plot step during the Lost Desert plot but did not collect their prizes.<br>
* Valentine's Day - On February 14th, one must send the item named 'A Mysterious Valentines Card' to any user. Both the sender and recipient of the item get the sidebar. However, the Card disappears once it is sent, but only on this day.<br>
* Winter - Previously awarded as a random event while visiting Terror Mountain. It is currently currently given out to people meeting unknown requirements on December 31st, on the Advent Calendar (according to Neopian Times editorial 228).<br>

Writing and art contests
Neopets also offers several different writing and art contests.

The Neopian Times is a weekly electronic newspaper that includes short stories, a question-and-answer editorial, comics (traditional and animated), story series, and articles. If a user's contribution is published, they receive a trophy, as well as special rewards for certain Neopian Times issues (such as milestone, Halloween, and Christmas issues).

There is a poetry contest that runs approximately twice a week, and a story-telling contest in which users write and submit the next part of a short story. A "Random Contest" requires a different task, chosen by Neopets staff, to be completed each contest, such as drawing, making up "Dr. Sloth's answering machine message", and creating recipes, and so on. The Caption Contest requires users try to write humorous captions for a picture. Players can submit drawings of their pets for the Beauty Contest (which is a popularity contest rather than an art contest), a picture and short story of their pets or petpets for the Spotlights, galleries of items, custom-built levels of certain games, or their Neopets-based web pages (theoretically for their pets) or petpages. When users win one of these contests, they usually receive a trophy a Neopoint reward and sometimes an avatar too.

Shops
In addition to the regular shops, players open their own shops to sell items, sometimes after obtaining those items at a lower price from sources, such as other shops. (One may also exchange items at the trading post or use the auction house.) Shops run by non-player characters allow haggling. Buying items at the Neopian shops in order to resell them is called restocking (since it involves waiting until the shop restocks), and can be very profitable for a player with luck and a fast internet connection. However, player-run shops can only sell items up to 99,999 Neopoints; extremely expensive items must be traded using either the Trading Post or the Auction House.

Players may form "malls" of usually eight or more players, each linking to each other's shops by banners, stocking large numbers of items within a category that they are assigned. However, users may end up overpricing their items in the malls in order to compensate for the costs of upgrading to a marketplace shop.

Community
Neopets has a community in which users can chat with and contact each other by private "Neomail" (on-site e-mail) or on public "Neoboards", which are more like chat rooms than internet forums.

As with all Internet communities, there is risk in giving out personal information to strangers. Players under 13 years of age who wish to access any of the site's communication features must fax or mail a document stating parental consent, with the parent's signature, to the Neopets headquarters, to comply with COPPA. The system is, however, easily evaded by entering a fake age.

Guilds
Users with similar interests can create or join certain guilds which usually revolve around a theme, such as battling in the Battledome, or non-Neopets themes such as those for the fans of real-world celebrities or animal-lovers. Some guilds are dedicated to certain causes or goals, such as helping poorer Neopians and/or new players, adopting the abandoned Neopets in the pound, collecting avatars, role-playing, and so on. There are message boards inside the guilds, accessible only to their members. Guilds may also offer certain benefits to members, such as guild shops, "newbie packs" (usually containing inexpensive items as welcome presents to members, which could be classified as a form of scamming by Neopets rules), activities, and tips. Battledome guilds (especially lupe packs) often have "wars" with one another. Members battle members of the other guild and a score is kept. Some guilds are private, which makes the guild not show up in any guild searches, and a player would need an invitation from someone in the guild to join. Different guilds have different requirements for advancing in rank within the guild, sometimes with a corresponding increase in benefits and power. The leader of the guild can choose 4 members in their guild to be part of a "Council", and give them administrative powers such as the ability to change the layout of the guild, create a poll, or delete messages on the message boards (although regular members can also be given administrative powers). These council positions are often sought after by ambitious guild members. Many large guilds also have a sub-council, which is usually like the council in a way except sub-council members usually have less administrative powers and duties than the regular council. Some guilds also have corresponding external websites or petpages to share information.

NeoMail
NeoMail is a personal in-game communication system, much like regular email. Players can write messages to other players or make "neofriends", to whom they can send items from their inventory or make private auctions for.
For many reasons, NeoMail messages are monitored, and players cannot write to another player who is under the age of 13. However, if the person under 13 has parental permission to play on the site, you are able to send them a neomail. Users may also block people who they do not want to come in contact with.

Neopets also has a "limit" on the number of NeoMails that can be sent in a day, or more so, in a certain span of time. This is to prevent the slowing down of a server and spamming.
It also allows you to talk with your friends, but only if they have an account on neopets.

Merchandise
Neopets now produces a range of merchandise, including plushies, stickers, cereals, and hand-held video games. The merchandise retails at many mainstream outlets such as Wal-Mart, Target, and Limited Too. There are also exclusively online retailers involved, such as 99dogs.com, which was the first outlet for Neopets merchandise.

In September 2003, Wizards of the Coast released the Neopets Trading Card Game, a collectible card game, based on the online characters and setting. It is distributed by card shops, as well as Wal-Mart and Target. To date, there have been six individual "sets" of cards (a base set and five expansions) released, with the sixth set recently released. Most of the card releases are associated with "plots," or stories, on the site. This is another controversial marketing move, which has at once managed to endear and estrange players from the site.

In March 2005 it was confirmed that the Neopets team had also begun work on a Neopets film (which the creators of the site had kept secret from their own staff until it was confirmed). When informing the users of this, they also implied that there may be more than one Neopets film in the future (although, of course, this will depend entirely on the success of their first film). On the description of the Jelly World game "Jelly Blobs of Doom", a movie is to be released Winter 2008.

In November 2005 Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. released Neopets: The Darkest Faerie, for the PlayStation 2. A second game, Neopets: Petpet Adventures: The Wand of Wishing, was released March 14, 2006 for the Sony PlayStation Portable.

A very popular form of merchandise for Neopets was their set of toys at McDonald's, which brought many people in to Neopets. There is soon to be another release of Neopet toys at McDonald's because of the success of the last promotion.fact These toys have been released in countries such as Australia, USA, and Singapore.

Controversy
Neopets controversy
Neopets has been involved in many controversies. Off the website, issues have been raised from its immersive advertising methods, gambling-based games, and its connection to Scientology. Users have complained about various security holes or glitches and problems with user interaction.

Groups of people believing that Neopets treats users poorly and who are also against the immersive advertising have formed anti-Neopets websites expressing their views. These groups have bought domain names for their movement, talked about their movement on the Neopets forums, and have even reported Neopets for what they believe to be potential copyright violations.
Also, thousands of users have complained of their accounts being frozen for absolutely no reason at all. There have actually been websites that have been made by angry users that were "unfairly" frozen. Many believe that there is an automated "freezing" system.

Many users state that '-if you were frozen then you had to do something to deserve it.'

Petpets
Petpets are Neopets' pets. They are small and are found in shops all over Neopia. Some variations include Slorg, Feepit, Babaa, and the Meepit (which is commonly joked as hiding evil intention). Petpets can wake up (or be eaten by) the giant beast called Turmaculus. Petpets can also find a "Petpetpet". These can either be attached to the petpet or sold for many neopoints. Petpetpets are very rare, and finding one is a rare random event. Some Petpets used to assist you in Battledome fights, but this option has been retired. However, Petpets now have their own battle arena, called the "Petpet Battle Arena".

Like Neopets, Petpets have levels which can be raised either by visiting the Turmaculus or fighting in the Petpet Battle Arena. Also, like Neopets, petpets can also be painted a variety of colors, albeit with their own petpet paintbrushes. Even though they're slightly cheaper than Neopet paint brushes, Petpet paintbrushes are rather expensive to purchase or trade.

Your Neopet can also talk to their Petpet by typing in what they wish to say. The Petpet then responds with one of a number of pre-programmed text actions. The actions vary with the type of Petpet although if any of what you say to it includes a swear word, all of the petpet's lines will be the same: "Oi! Don't swear! This site is family-friendly."

Petpets can be mixed in the cooking pot, as well as other things. An example could be the Wuzzer, which is a mix between a Warf and a Buzzer.

Petpets are also featured in various games, like Petpet Herder and Hasee Bounce.

The Den is a furry sharehouse in Carindale - Brisbane, Australia. Its occupants are MistyStriker, Bingo Dingo and Rhiannon, a non-fur.

History
The Den has been in existence since April 26, 2005, when Jaffa Ferel, MistyStriker, and Dimenianz moved in. In August, 2005, Dimenianz moved out and approximately a week later Dimruthien VerenLaulaja moved to Brisbane from Darwin, Australia. In January 2006, Bingo Dingo also came to call The Den his permanent home. In September 2006, after financial dramas, Jaffa moved out and relocated to Adelaide, Australia. Moreth was looking for a place, so he decided to make The Den his haunt and rental balance was restored. In April 2007, Dimruthien moved back to her hometown of Darwin, Australia, reducing the numbers down to three once again. In the following July, Moreth moved out into The Burrows to live with his partner, FoxofFire, and Rhiannon moved in a week later.

Social facts
Occupants of The Den usually find themselves in the company of Nikita Wolfpaw, Foxy Malone, FlameDrake and Milesway on Tuesdays for Coffee Night, while on Thursdays the Denizens join The Cave, Nikita Wolfpaw and occasionally Tyresk and Whyrl for bowling.

People who have invaded the house and stayed a week or more include Hammond, PsychoSmiley, Tursiae, Hendikins and Moreth, who liked it so much he moved in.

Quirks
* The toilet is in the living room.
* Despite the fact that The Asylum is more appropriately named for this quirk, The Den has bars on each window.
* The Den hosts three different sofas, two of which reside on the balcony with the extra fridge that currently has a thriving population of sentient mould.
* There have been claims of the doorbell being haunted, as it goes off with nobody at the front door to ring it, sometimes even at 2am.
* Despite the ever-growing DVD collection, The Den is more overrun by books than anything else. Topics range from fantasy, to crime, to gaming, with a large section devoted to art and drawing of course. There are piles of books on the floor, the kitchen table, the kitchen benches, as well as the single bookshelf in the house.
* Household computers are named Lycanthrope (Misty) and Serenity (Misty's laptop used by Bingo). There are also approximately 4 other computers that are either half built, retired or just plain don't work. Misty's printer/scanner is named Minotaur, but as his printer half broke in July 2007, a new printer named Theseus has been added to the house.
* As with many typical furry gatherings, the Denizens and their guests usually congregate in doorways or the hallway for conversations, sometimes even sitting on the floor in the hallway where the three bedroom doors and the bathroom door meet to carry out a conversation.
* On the sidewalk in front of the house next door 'This way to the Den' is carved into the concrete. In front of the actual Den, part of the sidewalk has the Denizen's names carved into the concrete, as well as 'Furry Pride', 'DV *heart* PS' and a pawprint.
* Misty, Bingo, Dimruthien and Jaffa are stars in a documentary made by university students about furries. The documentary is called The Velvet Underground.
Kes was born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania to Thomas, a high school math teacher, and Angela, a high school German teacher. She was actively involved in the furry community insofar that while she was not an artist or fursuiter, she attended East in 1996, Mephit FurMeet in 1999, and Anthrocon in 1997, 1998, 1999, 200, and 2001, as well as various local events such as camping in 1999 and the DooDah Parade in 2000. Waning interest, the distances involved in traveling, a series of low-paying jobs and putting herself through college (resulting in low finances), and becoming more settled with her boyfriend, Christopher "Elkay" Masto (whom she has been dating since July 2000), has caused Kes to at least temporarily stop attending conferences, although she still logs on to the AnthroChat IRC channel regularly and keeps in contact with friends from her conference-going days.

Islaender (called "Isi" in short) is one of the horses that populate the German furry fandom. Born in 1980 in a small town in Schleswig-Holstein he currently lives in his own little household in the West of Iserlohn, just a few minutes walk from the Ruhrgebiet. Waiting for the day he can start a little family with his girlfriend, Kirjava, he passes his time with working as a metalograph in Dortmund, spending time at the THW or travelling to Bonn to see family, friends and - especially - his girlfriend.
He can be quite picky with his name, which is indeed spelled "Islaender", and not "Isländer".

Interests
Aside from being a furry, he's interested in computer gaming, reading a fair number of webcomics and - of course - horses. He used to care for two horses, the first he had to give up because he moved into another town, the second one was sold shortly after he started working with it.

He also enjoys roleplaying (Ironclaw and Dungeons & Dragons), chess, swimming and furry art. Concerning furry art, he is something like a speciecist, since he is neither interested in nor accepting anything else than horses on his walls. Also he's mostly interested in original artwork and seldom acquires prints or other reproducable pieces of art.
By now ,he calls 20 unique drawings, one painting, a few prints, 18 horse figures, 2 clocks with a horse motif and 13 horse plushies his own (not counting postcards, mugs and other small stuff).

The horse character in detail
Islaender sees his fursona as a small to medium sized Icelandic horse with reddish-brown coat and a blonde mane. Built with a slightly bulky stature. his fursona often has no gender at all, he mostly refers to "the horse" or "the pony" or just "Islaender". Although some situations let him slip into one of the two anthropomorphic characters he sees as part of himself, the mare "Dijna" or the stallion "Sólon", he seems to be more comfortable with the animal form.

Writing and Activities
Islaender can seldom be found at cons or other meetings. He can be found mostly at the MMC (whenever he gets the chance he holds the story-SIG there) and perhaps the one or other occasional meeting. His activities mainly consist of writing stories and poetry, often with anthropomorphic characters - preferably horses - as well as publishing them in the section "Stories & Fics" of the Furbase.de-Forum, which is also currently moderated by him.
Published work with furry-related content are by now the stories "Wiedergeburt" and "Übergang" (found in Fur Fiction) as well as the poem "Mensch zu Tier" (Fur Fiction II).
His work is - except for a few poems - almost entirely written in German. A translation is not planned, but he currently works on building a page on which most of his work can be found.

Samii Tiger was born on March 18, 1986 in Los Angeles, California and was raised in Kankakee, Illinois for most of her life until she moved to DeKalb, Illinois in June 2006 with her mate Tybis, whom she is no longer with. As of 2006, she works for Allied-Barton Security as a corporate loss prevention officer under contract with Office Max in Itasca, Illinois.

Samii's fursona is a shape-and-gender-shifting winged Siberian Tiger. The other forms her fursona takes are reflections of her personal totems, as well as traits of her personality. Most times, she tends to take either her female tiger form or her female tigerwolf form.

Origins
The character of Samii Tiger started out back in 1992 as a roleplaying character during recesses with friends. The group she played with developed the Ninja Animals storyline with humans who had their DNA merged with that of selected animals. These recess roleplay sessions continued until 1995, when she was moved to another school to pursue accelerated education in the district's newly-formed Gifted Program.

Following the transfer to a new school, she met a friend in her combined fifth and sixth grade class who introduced her to Furcadia in February of 1996. She started on there as Samii Tiger, formed the Furcadian Air Force, which was later disbanded due to lack of participation, and met Yaashma, and had conversations with sanctimonious.

In 1997, Samii left Furcadia at her mother's request and left furry, as well.

In 2000, Samii returned to Furcadia and to furry, reconnecting with a part of her past that had been lost for a time. Three years later, Samii learned of Midwest FurFest and made plans to attend that year, which ended up falling through due to finances and lack of her mother's approval.

Samii was enrolled at Northern Illinois University in the fall of 2004. In her Japanese class, she met a fellow fur, Taren Nauxen, who introduced her to Tybis, another local fur on campus. Through these new associations, Samii was introduced to LAFF, or the Lake Area Furry Friends, and began attending the local fur events. During the course of the 2004 school year, Samii discovered her other forms, a Western black dragon, a black timber wolf, and a tiger-wolf halfbreed known as the Tolf. They are not only fursonas, but also personal totem animals.

Rocket City FurMeet
In May 2005, Samii attended her first furry convention, Rocket City FurMeet (RCFM) in Huntsville, Alabama, where she volunteered and met many of her current friends. At Midwest FurFest of the same year, she was supposed to attend and present two panels, but was unable to due to transportation issues.

In late 2005, Samii was offered the staff position of Volunteer Wrangler for RCFM, which she held for RCFM 2006 and 2007 and continues to hold. She has also served as a member of MFF Security for the 2006 convention.

At RCFM, one can find her either helping out alongside her volunteers, trying to catch a catnap, at the Sub-Level 03 and Critical Fail shows, or leading a panel with Commander Kitsune.

RCFM Staff Page Description:
Samii's been in the volunteer wrangling business for roughly 7 years in various venues, now entering into her third year with Rocket City FurMeet as a member of Staff. Though the draconic tiger-wolf is experienced in prodding stagehands to do her bidding, she's still trying to figure out how to lure furries. Evidently, the catnip isn't working, though it evidently keeps her in the majority of the RCFM Staff's good graces.

Outside of RCFM, Samii works Loss Prevention in the Chicagoland area with fellow fur Ken Redtail at a major office supply warehouse/office building. When not at work, Samii manages to experiment in the kitchen with new recipes, draw tribal-style artwork, and sing along with whatever song happens to be playing at the moment. She is an active member of the Lake Area Furry Friends community and has a penchant for costuming, whether it be fursuiting or dressing in period garb for the local Renaissance Faire.

At con, people can find Samii running about the halls, in hospitality lending a hand, spotting for a couple of her fursuiter friends, or at one of the concerts. Catching this tiger by her toe is not advised, as she wears steel-toed boots, but she'll gladly stop in the hallways to say hello and give friends a quick hug before moving to pounce her next vic-- volunteer.

ToonPaw is a member of the furry fandom, a fursuit builder and designer at Character Costumes. He is an avid traveller and history buff. He is a small business owner and libertarian with scant amounts of free time, but he is still always happy to chat up a fellow furry and lend a helping paw.

Background
ToonPaw discovered the wonders of furrydom in the late 1990s. He was always a fan of animation art and cute cartoon characters. He worked for Disney in the early 1990s but it didn't pay nearly enough to pay for all the stuff he was buying while working there. He started out under the name of Tvalo Bear since bears were his favorite kind of critter. Baloo the Bear is his all-time favourite character.

Tvalo Bear remains one of his personal fursuits (rather unused of late), along with Oakley the snow cat (who looks like a raccoon to most people). He changed his name to ToonPaw to reflect his interest in all types of cartoon critters and costumes.

He began making fursuits in 2003 and has made many dozens of cute cartoon-type characters. ToonSuit Character Costumes is a Vancouver, Canada-based mascot making organization.

Personal Info
ToonPaw has been happily living with his partner Coast (the bunny) in downtown Vancouver for many years. He holds a decent full time job in addition to his fursuiting, but it's the fursuiting that makes him really purr with contentment.

Tias, better known as Tias Macase, is a black hybrid avian. She was created by Banrai in early 1999 as a character for The Gryphon's Guild under the name of Makaze Darktalon. Her name was changed in early 2007 to substantiate a move by her creator to more serious endeavors.

Tias is a Synth in the storyline of Astian, a work-in-progress world. She is no longer a Gryphon, but instead a peculiar avian hybrid, a species native to the fantasy world she exists in.

Tias was sprayed in the face with a chemical gas in the Biowars, and she now wears a metal-plate mask to hide her hideously scarred features. Before this incident, she was quite famous in her own right as a model and fashion star. It is currently unknown what she actually looks like under her mask, and few care to speculate. She tends to others that have had the same horrible fate befall her due to the senseless wars, often using her skills as a tinkerer to create new body parts for the befallen people as she had to do for her own fiancee, fashioning him an entire new lower torso when he was hit by a bomb during his service in the armies. It is often hard to tell how Tias is feeling, since her mask hides all of her features except for her ice-blue eyes.

Her general attire is that of a red coffin-lining dress with a black scalloped top, however some days she will be known to don a pair of pants and a loose top. Her mask varies, and it is assumed that she has more than one. The bottom has a small grating that allows for speech, and opens to allow for consumption of food and drink.

Origins
Originally, Tias was a black hawk/snow leopard hybrid Gryphon named "Makaze Darktalon". She was dubbed the 'EvilGryph' by some of her roleplaying partners, as her character history was dark and full of hatred and rage. She had killed her mother, her father, and all her siblings, and was bent on world domination, death and destruction. Banrai eventually left the Guild, however, and so the character became lesser-known.

Tias fell into a lull of disuse for a period of around three years, until Banrai was looking through some older work and decided to re-work the character into something more usable for her current projects.
Ginpu.us is a webcomic done by Michelle/Karou/Ginpu. The first comic was posted in September 6, 2006. Its genre is a mix of science fiction and comedy. The comic is updated every Friday, occasionally updating faster or being delayed.

Currently, the author of the comic is 'having a small problem regarding the names of the characters'.
Story
spoiler

The comic first began without a particular theme. The comic's main plot started from the October 13th, 2006 comic, revolving around a character named Kit and her story about the events from her past, and about 'he'.

15 years ago from the story's current settings, Kit awoke in a hospital, covered up in bloody bandages. She was also suffering from retrograde amnesia, unable to recall events prior to that time. She was then approached and informed by a man named Kaeru (who presumably is a doctor, but that is only from the scene's evidences) that she had been found severely wounded when found. He also informs her that it's been a few months since she was found.

Though Kit safely recovered after a time, her mind never recovered completely. Though Kaeru took care of her, she still had desires to find out about her past. She sneaked into his office and the files there said she was a test subject.

When Kit confronted Kaeru once again, he got angry about what Kit found out. They got into a fight, nearly killing Kaeru in the process. But, Kit was overpowered by his two assistants, and she had to escape. Kaeru continued to look for Kit, and as Kit said, he was near now. His two assistants were already on their way to find Kit.

Then, in the June 29th 2007 comic, Kaeru finally found Kit. This is the last comic before the author ran into the 'small problem for the names of the characters' (mentioned in the beginning).

RCFM Staff Page Description
Samii is a 20-year-old Siberian Tiger from the cornfields of Illinois. When not prowling about the Meet hunting for volunteers in typical tiger fashion, she can be often found in some random place helping out with the rest of the volunteers or curled up for a cat nap (if she can manage it). Despite the fearsome appearance she gives, she is easy to get along with, if approached, and likes hugs.

Mundane (also known as Mundie) is a popular term used to describe someone who is not part of the Furry Fandom. It is borrowed from the science fiction fandom, which shares equal definition, but for those who are not into science fiction.

Mundane is typically used sardonically toward others, not in the sense that one is "dull", but in the sense that one is not a furry. It is usually accompanied by an insulting tone, and can sometimes be the response of being ridiculed or mocked for involvement within the furry community. This term is most often used by lifestylers to describe those that do not share their connection to furries or animal spirituality. Lifestylers may even use this term to describe another furry who is not a lifestyler. It can also be used in the general sense, e.g. Mundanes wouldn't understand our ways, in which case it's more likely to be meant insultingly.

New World Awaiting is a shared story universe, in which all 'normal' humans are gone, and furries and otherkin (in their ideal form) have to cope with being the only living things left on planet Earth. It created by the Bluefish Thespian Society and the Punday Night Warriors, both groups of Tapestries regulars.

New World Awaiting is a varied setting. To date, everyone has created their own stories for their fursonas, which means that from a common beginning, every story has a different writing style, length, and overall topic. In fact, the very nature of the world changes between stories; one describes it the result of a supernatural war between the Christian god and the deities of other religions, while another describes it as a natural 'fracturing' of Earth into different groups that occurs whenever Earth becomes overpopulated.

The 'official' beginning of the setting is June X, 1997, although this has varied in later stories. There are about twenty 'official' stories and numerous 'unofficial' ones.
Yiff is an onomatopoetic word that was originally coined in 1990 by Foxen while roleplaying his fursona littlefox. It was originally a positive exclamation in Foxen's Foxish language, but the word has degenerated over time from its original meaning of "a cheerful greeting, an energetic 'yes!'" to an expression of sexual interest or activity (see Foxish Language for details on the lexicon). It is now a very common word which can be used as an interjection, an adjective ("yiffy"), a verb, or a noun (in which case it typically refers to anthropomorphic erotica).

Various sources mention it could be named after the noise foxes make while mating. ("It's the sound you get when you rub two foxes together.")Fact

Term development
In Foxish, yiff initially meant "yes!" or an enthused "hello!". Later, "yiff" was assigned a more sexual connotation, a meaning that had previously been assigned to yipp (a coarse form of yip.)fact This was compounded by several fox characters on Furry MUCK who were spreading a very sexual reputation for the species at about the same time as this came into common usage. (It should be noted that, while it is a matter of preference, many people highly dislike the use of "yiff" as a verb and prefer seeing the real English equivalents used, as they find that "yiff" makes sentences awkward, lacks a clear definition, or "sounds stupid.")

Additional term usage
* A foxish greeting
* An expression of happiness and success
* General sexual activity or context (see yiffing)
* Cybersex or TinySex
* The title of a planned musical theater piece
* Erotic or pornographic anthropomorphic art
<!-- Keep this one the last one so the next bit makes sense -->
The last is arguably the most common. Entire sites have sprung up around erotic activities, such as Yiffstar, an erotic textual story and artwork archive.
Story
