Rocky: Fixed spelling error and broken link.

The Lion King is an animated movie that was released by Disney in 1994. It is popular in the furry community and is considered by some people to be the thing that got them introduced to the fandom. Many participate in The Lion King MUCK.

It is the third movie ever produced by Disney to feature an entirely furry cast of characters, after Bambi and Robin Hood.

The movie was part of a three movie series

* The Lion King, released in 1994
* Simba's Pride or The Lion King 2, release as a direct to video in 1998 in the US
* The Lion King 1 1/2 (The Lion King 3 in Europe) released as a direct to video in 2004.

There were a few points of controversy having to do with the first movie:

* In one scene, Simba flops down into the grass and stirs up some pollen. The pollen hovers in the air of a moment and appears to make a word in the sky before drifting off. Many people claimed they saw 'SEX' as the word, however Disney claims the word is 'SFX' as in 'Special Effects'. While the scene was not modified in the VHS release of the movie, the DVD release has the word darkened out and hardly visible at all.

* Another controversy has to do with many simularties between a Japanese anime series called Kimba, The White Lion. Originally, The Lion King was to be called King of the Jungle and was to include a white lion as the lead. There are many parallels in characters and story points between the two movies that did make it into the final production. This page goes deeper into the similarities between the two movies, including images of the two.

Rocky: Linux is a Unix-type OS, but to avoid confusing those less geeky than us I'll agree to make a distinction. :)

IRC (Internet Relay Chat) is a common way to communicate in text messages across the internet. It allows for chat rooms (called "channels"), private conversations and file transfers. To connect to IRC you need an IRC client (see below).

Furry IRC networks include Furnet and Anthrochat.

DDR (Dance Dance Revolution) is a game craze from Japan that you will see played at some point at pretty much every furry convention.

The game uses a set of panels which you step on using your feet. The panels are typically in form of a soft mat with pressure-sensitive areas. This kind is shown in the picture to the right. More advanced players invest in hard panels built into a metal frame, similar to those built into DDR arcade machines.

The goal of the game is to step on the panels to a musical beat, in a pattern presented on the screen. The music is usually techno or eurotechno with a very distinct beat and between 120 and 180 beats per minute, and the better you match your steps with the beat the higher your score will be.

DDR is also an excellent and popular fitness work-out method.
