'''Miles Prower''', better known by his nickname '''Tails''', is a character in the [[Sonic the Hedgehog (series)|''Sonic the Hedgehog'' series]] of video games, [[comics]], and animated cartoons released by [[Wikipedia:Sega|Sega]].

The name "Miles Prower" is a pun on "miles per hour", a reference to the famed speed of the ''Sonic the Hedgehog'' series, as well as his incredible skills as a mechanic. He is a young [[fox]] with two tails (similar to the mythological [[Kitsune (mythology)|kitsune]]), which enable him to fly by spinning them in a helicopter-like motion. According to Sega Japan's web site [http://sonic.sega.jp/chara/chara_tails.html], he is  8 years old, stands at 80 centimeters (approx. 2 ft 7.5 in), and weighs 20 kilograms (44 lbs). His birthday is most likely October 16, the release date of his 1992 debut to the Master System and Game Gear version of ''Sonic the Hedgehog 2'', although most players' introduction to the character was in the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive version of ''Sonic the Hedgehog 2''.

During his first appearance his [[fur]] was an orange color, but changed to yellow-orange for ''Sonic Adventure'', and light-yellow for ''Sonic Heroes''. In 1995 he starred in his own games, ''Tails Adventure'' and ''Tails' Skypatrol'' for the Game Gear.

== Character design ==

[[Yasushi Yamaguchi]], originally the main artist and zone designer for [[Sega]]'s Sonic Team, designed Tails for an internal competition for the sidekick. His entry won, but Sonic Team decided to change his character's name from "Miles" to "Tails".

Yamaguchi ended up with a compromise. He snuck the name "Miles" in as his legal name; "Tails" would be his nickname, ending up with the full name of Miles "Tails" Prower.

Tails was redesigned (along with all of the other [[Wikipedia:List of characters from Sonic the Hedgehog|Sonic characters]]) by Yuji Uekawa for ''Sonic Adventure''. His fur changed color to a slightly orange shade of yellow, and he gained visible blue irises.

In the American and UK comics, he was once a brownish color. After the redesign by Sega, Archie decided to make him look more like the game image.

== Personality ==
Tails was very shy when he first met [[Sonic the Hedgehog|Sonic]], but gradually opened up and became Sonic's best friend. In ''Sonic Adventure'', Tails proved his independence by saving Station Square from [[Dr. Eggman]] without Sonic's help. He now has many different creations and his intelligence matches Eggman's. He does have a few weaknesses though; he is very afraid of lightning and has a tendency to talk too much, stating the obvious most of the time. In the Archie Comics, the other [[Freedom Fighters]] take care of the fox, him being too young to do much. However, over time, he grows up to become a valuable team member. Tails also creates their first battleship, the X-Tornado.

===As a sidekick===

The Japanese and Western manuals differ somewhat in the story of how the two first met.

In the Japanese manual, Tails lived on Westside Island, which Sonic arrived at shortly after the first game in his biplane, the Tornado. Sonic instantly became Tails' idol when the young fox first witnessed the blue hedgehog's incredible speed. After Sonic saw that Tails was actually able to catch up with him, he decided to let him tag along (this scene can be witnessed in ''Sonic Adventure'' in a flashback during Tails' story). Being a mechanics buff, Tails took the time to look over Sonic's plane when he had gone away. However, around the same time, [[Dr. Eggman|Dr. Eggman (Dr. Robotnik)]] began demonstrating the power of his spacestation, the Death Egg. Tails was more than willing to help stop Eggman, effectively teaming up with Sonic. The added details about his mechanical abilities explain why Tails was so quick with repairs during Wing Fortress Zone, and have since been referenced in later titles such as ''Sonic Adventure'' where he made a much faster, more well equipped plane, the Tornado II, to replace the old one.

According to the Western manual, Sonic had been Tails' hero ever since he was a baby fox. After following his hero relentlessly for a long time, Tails became fast enough to keep up with Sonic by spinning his twin tails in a propeller-like style, which gave the fox the ability of flight. Eventually, Sonic and Tails became best friends.

===With other ''Sonic'' characters===
Tails has many friends besides Sonic, and his skills are respected by everyone who knows him. In ''Sonic Heroes'' he is part of Team Sonic, along with Sonic and [[Knuckles the Echidna|Knuckles]]. Tails mostly treats and respects all his friends the same with a humble and somewhat passive attitude.

For the most part, he has a friendly relationship with [[Amy Rose]]. Amy can be kinda rude and outspoken to Tails, like she is to everyone else, but they can work together productively and sometimes Amy is defensive of him; for example, by getting mad at Wave for laughing at him. He likes her despite her mood swings, as he has a crush con her.

Tails is also friendly with Knuckles. They converse more than Knuckles does with Sonic, although they do tend to irritate each other occasionally - Knuckles scares Tails in ''Sonic Heroes'' during the ghost levels, while Knuckles gets confused when Tails talks about technicalities in ''Sonic Riders''. Tails is also on friendly terms with Cream and Cheese, but doesn't seem to know them very well.

Tails doesn't know [[Rouge the Bat]] very well either. However, he is intelligent enough to see past her charm - in ''Sonic Battle''; for example, he treats her motives with suspicion and doesn't trust her. However, it is interesting to note that Tails has been kissed by Rouge on two different occasions, once in ''Sonic Battle'' (this can be viewed by losing in the fight where Rouge challenges the player for her Entry pass) and once in the ''Sonic X'' cartoon (during the Chaos Tournament, she kissed him to distract him while she tossed the love struck Tails out of the ring). Tails works with [[Shadow the Hedgehog]] in ''Shadow the Hedgehog'' and seems to trust him more than anyone but Rouge and Omega. Though, unfortunately, Sonic sees Shadow as a rival, so Tails is usually dragged into their fight whether he likes it or not.

Tails probably sees the Chaotix Crew (Vector, Charmy and Espio) as friends, although throughout the game series he has never had any dialogue with them. In ''Sonic X'' however, the crew decides to help him get involved with Cosmo, a girl that Tails likes. They try everything from knocking Knuckles out and trying to pass him off as a Metarex for Tails to defend the girl from, to just running up and placing them together, but nothing seems to work. Vector finally succeeds in making them closer by kicking a ball which bounces towards Cosmo, causing Tails to jump onto Cosmo to get her out of the way.

In ''Sonic Adventure 2'', he had a short rivalry with Eggman, fighting him directly in the Cyclone twice - once on Prison Island, the second time when Eggman blasted Sonic into space. After this however, the rivalry seems to have ceased. Tails also found a rival in [[Babylon Rogues|Wave the Swallow]] in ''Sonic Riders''. In the game, she insulted his extreme gear skills to lower his morale, but her action caused a determined Tails to beat her in a race.

As for love life, Tails is generally considered too young for crushes, although in the ''Sonic the Hedgehog comics'' by Archie Comics and the TV series ''Sonic X'' by TMS Entertainment/Sonic Project, Tails has a few love interests. In ''Sonic X'', Tails falls in love with [[Wikipedia:Cosmo (Sonic the Hedgehog)|Cosmo]] – a talking plant-alien-girl (a Seedrian, specifically) although the love doesn't seem to be love in a traditional sense – the two act as if in a very close friendship, though it's obvious they harbour feelings for each other. Tails is forced to kill her in the end because of the Metarex.

In the comics, Tails develops affections for [[Wikipedia:Minor characters in Sonic the Hedgehog (Archie)#Fiona Fox|Fiona Fox]], a dashing red one-tailed female fox with mechanical skills similar to Tails'. In Archie Comics' Sonic the Hedgehog issue #28 Robotnik uses a robotic version of Fiona Fox in an attempt to capture Tails (this occurs when he is much younger) - Sonic later remarks in the 'Home' series of the comic during a 'welcome back' party that Tails should be careful not to get his heart broken again. Ironically, when the biological Fiona shows up, it's Sonic who breaks Tails heart when Tails catches Sonic embracing and kissing her. During the early Tails/Downunda miniseries, Tails also has a very big crush on Barby Koala. She also likes him, although the two are forced to depart when Tails has to go back to Knothole.

In the ''25 Years Later'' Archie storyline, which the Archie editors have stated is not the definite canon future, Tails is married to [[Mina Mongoose]]. (Note that this clearly is not canon to the master plot, as ''[[Wikipedia:Minor characters in Sonic the Hedgehog (Archie)#Ash Mongoose|Ash]]'' is supposed to be Mina's boyfriend.)

Like most of the characters, Tails is often depicted without any known family. However, in the [[Wikipedia:Sonic the Hedgehog (Archie comic)|Archie Sonic the Hedgehog comics]], he does have a few relatives:

===Alternate selves===
In the Archie Comics, Tails has a variety of other-dimensional counterparts. Among these are a superhero Tails, teamed up with a group of Freedom Fighters descended from the originals who are styled after the Justice League. There is also [[Wikipedia:Anti-Freedom Fighters|Anti-Tails]] (who prefers his given name of Miles), an evil version from the same dimension as [[Wikipedia:Anti-Freedom Fighters|Evil Sonic]] and [[Knuckles the Echidna#Alternate Versions|Anti-Knuckles]]. There are also many other forms of Tails who appear at one point to aid the fox in his battle with Mammoth Mogul. [[Tails Doll]] could also be seen as an alternative Tails, from the game Sonic R.

== Tails' mechanical creations ==

Although Tails can fly by twirling his two tails like the blades of a helicopter, he also enjoys flying Sonic's red biplane, the Tornado. As the TV series progressed, it was obvious his interest in the old biplane went further than just piloting it - Tails is a prodigy with mechanics, and he has a mechanical ability equal to that of [[Dr. Eggman|Dr. Eggman's]]. As a result, many modifications were made to the Tornado, as well as new biplanes and a small, blue submarine called the "Sea Fox", a space ship called the "Lunar Fox", and a race car called the "Whirlwind S7." The "Whirlwind S7" is a vehicle clearly based upon the Lotus/Catherham Super Seven (hence the name).

In the ''Sonic the Hedgehog Movie'' (also known as [[Wikipedia:Sonic Anime|Sonic Anime]] or Sonic Look-a-Like) Tails tampers with a tracking device given to him by Eggman to find the location of Robotropolis and the whereabouts of 'Black-Eggman'. After the escapade turns out to be a trick, Tails uses his quick thinking to modify the device back at his home (an island similar to Cocoa-Island) and uses the chipset to make an interference device which somehow causes Metal Sonic to malfunction. The device is later shot off of Tails' arm by Eggman, narrowly missing his arm.

In ''Sonic Adventure'', Tails was experimenting with a Chaos Emerald-powered prototype plane based on Sonic's Tornado, the Tornado II. The Tornado II has two modes. One is quite similar to the old Tornado, but with a button press, Tails could make it transform into a rather futuristic-looking little plane which outperformed the Tornado in all but one important function -- landing gear. [[Big the Cat]] ended up flying the wrecked Tornado II to his home after Sonic and Tails crash-landed on Eggman's flying fortress, the Egg Carrier.

In ''Sonic Adventure 2'', Tails had a new plane similar to the Tornado II called the P-3a Cyclone (or the Tornado III in ''[[Shadow the Hedgehog]]''). The Cyclone has three modes: a plane mode, a car mode, and a mech mode. The airplane is only seen in cutscenes; the car is used on only one level (In the Kart minigame, Tails uses a go-kart); the mech mode is used most during the game. Tails drives the mech during all other gameplay, except when visiting the [[Wikipedia:Chao (video game)|Chao Garden]]. For some reason, in ''[[]]Sonic Heroes'', the Tornado III/Cyclone appears in a cutscene. It has the same body as the Tornado III, but with a cross-wing design and leaves smoke trails. In ''[[Shadow the Hedgehog]]'', the Tornado III reappeared as its ''Sonic Adventure 2'' version. Tails also built two other walkers in Sonic Adventure 2. One was the Tornado in walker mode (Apparently a recent upgrade of some sort), and the other was the Chao Walker, which was designed by Tails to give Chao the ability to fight back when hurt. Eggman created the Dark Chao Walker as its parallel. Both mechs are only playable in vs. mode.

Sonic X features a much improved model of the Tornado, and it is more high tech than the one in the games. Known as the X Tornado, two of these models exist, one yellow, and one silver. These machines are equipped with weaponry, and can transform into robots known as the X Cyclones : one a ground-based plane with legs (inspired by the Gerwalk Mode of the Valkyries rom ''Macross''), the other a flying torso. Sonic X also features the Hyper Tornado, a superior version of Tails' biplane. Finally, Tails' greatest achievement is the Blue Typhoon warship. This vessel is equipped for deep space travel, and is equipped with a wide arsenal, the most powerful weapon in which is the Sonic Driver. This giant cannon uses Sonic as a living cannonball, creating a much-improved version of his super spin. The Blue Typhoon is powered by the Master Emerald. Despite the fact that Tails reconstructed the X Tornado from Tornado II, the Tornado II made a reappearance in episode 52 of Sonic X. It isn't explained how but this cannot be possible. Also, Sonic Project perhaps had made a mistake and did not think before doing this. Also, it is unexplained how Tails built the huge Blue Typhoon - in the games, it is important to note that Tails doesn't seem to be able to construct designs like this.

The original Tornado that appears in the Sonic series resembles the Polikarpov I-153 Chaika, a Soviet biplane from World War II; the I-153's engine is a Wright "Cyclone".

== Moves and abilities ==
Like many of the other characters in the Sonic universe, Tails has super speed (but not as fast as Sonic) can do the Sonic Spin, the Spin Dash, the homing attack, as well as doing his own attacks, such as attacking with his tails by twirling around. In ''Sonic Adventure'', he obtained the Rhythm Badge, which enabled him to do a continuous tail attack. In Sonic Adventure 2, he gained the ability to use the mystic melody, which caused something to happen when played in front of a certain kind of strange object. In ''Sonic Heroes'', he is the Flight member of Team Sonic, which means that he can also use the Thunder Shoot attack, whereby he electrically charges Sonic and [[Knuckles the Echidna|Knuckles]] and kicks them at his enemies. When alone, Tails can also throw fake rings, which electrocute enemies who blunder into them. He can also swim quite well, which is an ability Sonic never had. This, when combined with his flying ability, actually makes him quite an unfairly skilled character in some games.

Tails plays major roles in almost all Sonic games released since his debut in ''Sonic the Hedgehog 2''. However, it's likely that in the unreleased ''Sonic X-treme'', which was in development for the Sega Saturn platform, Tails would not have appeared. In similar fashion, ''Sonic CD'' only contains Tails in the form of a piece of artwork that features him standing next to a racecar with the caption "SEE YOU NEXT GAME" - a reference to ''Sonic Drift'' for the Game Gear.

Aside from his excellent mechanics and driving/piloting, Tails is great at sports, like grinding and boarding, which he learned (possibly) from Sonic.

Like Sonic, Tails can transform into a super form, called "Super Tails", but so far this has only been seen in Sonic 3 & Knuckles. He is bright gold, with four gold [[Wikipedia:Flicky (bird)|Flickies]] around him which can attack enemies. He needs the 7 Super Emeralds to transform.

The Archie Comics feature a wider range of transformations. In the continuity, Tails can still become the traditional Super Tails, but his coloring does not change and he achieved this through absorbing an unknown multitude of Power Rings. However, Tails' main transformation is into Turbo Tails. In this version, his fur changes from orange to brown (or brown to orange depending on the colorists of the comic issue), and he wears a cape and gloves reminiscent of a super hero. Finally, Tails' ultimate transformation, the strongest and least likely to appear again, is Titan Tails. In this incarnation, Tails merged with countless versions of himself from alternate dimensions to battle Mammoth Mogul. The result was a giant, muscular Tails with cosmic abilities.

He also was part of "Team Super Sonic" in the climactic fight against [[Metal Sonic]] in Sonic Heroes, however many fans are disheartened by the lack of any appearance of "Super Tails". The only form of transformation which Tails undergoes it to be encircled by a shield (which looks much like the fire shields found in Sonic 3 & Knuckles.

Tails has not been shown to transform in any of the cartoons. Sonic Project, the team behind ''Sonic X'', apparently wanted the power of Chaos Control to stay limited to those of "greater" importance (a.k.a., Sonic and Shadow).

== Video game appearances ==
Tails was first seen on ''Sonic 2'' for the Master System, where he was kidnapped by Robotnik for ransom. He was first made playable in ''Sonic 2'' for the Megadrive (Genesis), where he played the part of Sonic's sidekick and also as a playable character from the second controller. ''Sonic Chaos'' (1993), on the Game Gear/Master System was the first game where you could control Tails' flight abilities.

Then, in ''Sonic 3'' (1994) Tails made his second major appearance (also able to fly, which made him pick up Sonic when possible). This was a big step forward for Tails; he became much better known and respected at this point.

In Sonic Adventure and its remake, Sonic Adventure DX, Tails is 1 of the 6 playable characters in those games. To unlock him, rescue him as [[Sonic the Hedgehog]] at the beach. His gameplay is to destroy the capsule or get to the Chaos Emerald before Sonic or [[Dr. Eggman]].

However, in the sequel, Sonic Adventure 2 and it's remake, Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, his gameplay changed. Instead of the one in Sonic Adventure, he got a gameplay similar to [[E-102 Gamma]]'s in Sonic Adventure, in fact, Dr. Eggman got the gameplay too.

In ''Shadow the Hedgehog'', he helps out in the Circus Park and Air Fleet levels.

In ''Sonic Riders'', Tails is a playable character, and one of the main characters of the game. He modified Sonic's Extreme Gear "Blue Star" to become "Blue Star II". [[Babylon Rogues|Wave the Swallow]] makes fun of his board design, sparking a rivalry between them throughout the game. When racing, he has the best cornering of all characters.

===Gameplay quirks===
In ''Sonic 2'', ''Sonic 3'' and ''Sonic Adventure'', when the player has opted to play in 'Sonic and Tails' mode (controlling Sonic while the AI makes Tails follow him), it's not readily stated in the manual, but a second player can use the 2P controller to use Tails. The action will continue to follow Sonic on the screen, making him the focal point, but Tails is fully controllable in every way that he is when playing as Tails alone. This can potentially be exploited by players who are having trouble with some problem areas or bosses, as Tails has the benefit of being completely invulnerable, with any "death" he suffers being quickly resolved as the character flies harmlessly back onto the screen after a few seconds. Moreover, in ''Sonic 3'', Tails is granted the ability to fly as he pleases, which can allow the Tails-using player to airlift Sonic wherever he might need to go, though Tails does have an endurance limit to his flight. Sonic Advance allowed this mode as well (via a code entered at character select), however, Tails couldn't be controlled by a second player this time.

There is also a glitch in ''Sonic 2'' which arguably gives him a 'Super Tails' form before its official appearance in ''Sonic 3 & Knuckles''. Again, playing in Sonic & Tails mode is a prerequisite. After becoming Super Sonic through whatever means necessary (code or legitimately), the player can use the in-game debug mode to place a normal item monitor on the ground, giving himself a monitor with the teleport item normally only available in 2-player split screen. After jumping on this, the characters will stay in their location, but while Super Sonic's abilities will be apparently gone, Tails will now have an invincibility ring surrounding him. Sonic must collect another 50 rings and jump to return to Super status. Super Tails will remain in his state for as long as he doesn't "die" through drowning, crushing or falling, and he actually runs as fast as Super Sonic, though he lacks the height of his jumps.

== Comics and TV shows ==

Tails has appeared in several cartoon shows, such as [[Wikipedia:Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM)|SatAM]], ''[[Wikipedia:Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog|Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog]]'', and ''[[Wikipedia:Sonic X|Sonic X]]''. However, he is absent from ''[[Wikipedia:Sonic Underground|Sonic Underground]]''.

In '''Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog''', he is a lot younger than his game self (this is one reason he became often seen as Sonic's little "groupie"). He is often, in Sonic's opinion, a slight annoyance due to his irritating tendency of being captured easily, often by one of Robotnik's creations or Robotnik himself. But still, Sonic sees him as like a surrogate brother and best friend, and is usually overprotective of him (this often leads to his or Sonic's capture). Even though, Tails seems to have a vast intelligence in mechanics and can operate independently in drastic situations, such as in one instance lacing an entire building with booby-traps (in a manner similar to those seen in ''Home Alone'') in order to revive Sonic from a nasty ailment. He is also evidenced to have a large appetite, and like Sonic, his favorite food is chili dogs. He has a rather sharp tongue towards Scratch and Grounder (losers, morons, dumbclucks, etc) especially when cornered.

He also appears in the British ''Sonic the Comic'', published by Fleetway, where he hails from the Nameless Zone, a region which can apparently only be accessed by a space warp. A misunderstanding led Tails to the Emerald Hill Zone, where the streets of which he believed were paved with real emeralds, but once there, Tails immediately became fascinated with Sonic, and eventually became his sidekick and eventually best friend. Unfortunately for him, though, he exaggerated the relationship in letters home, professing that HE was the great hero of [[Mobius]] and that Sonic was HIS sidekick, which resulted in the elders of the Nameless Zone often calling him back, and gifting him with a suit of enchanted armor to defend their Zone from assorted evil - and poor old Tails never did quite manage to explain the truth. One time, Knuckles accidentally joined Tails and was mistaken for Sonic by everyone in the Nameless Zone. Knuckles played along and kept it all secret from Sonic. Tails also accidentally found himself seen as an valiant and unstoppable Zonerunner (a Freedom Fighter who travels between Zones) by the Chemical Plant Zone rebels known as the Flock.

While the Zonerunner & Nameless Zone adventures were 'secret' adventures where Tails was accidentally seen as a major hero, later stories would have him actively doing heroic deeds, though these were mainly short arcs or more comedic stories. On occasions, he would save someone and they would grumble he wasn't a more famous hero! Despite this, Tails gained his own rogue's gallery including the brutal goblin lord Trogg, the psychotic robot Nutzan Bolt, Fleabyte the bounty hunter and the gangster Max Gamble, as well as allies such as Errol & Blackthorn (brother and sister warriors of the Nameless Zone). He also fought many criminals after the defeat of Robotnik, defended the Casino Night Zone & its people from Brutus' Badniks, and was chosen by Sonic to protect the planet while he went after Robotnik during the ''Planet In Peril/Game Over'' story. While he is self-conscious, Tails has proven time & again (and openly stated) that he is much tougher than some people may think.

Tails also appears in the American Archie Sonic Comics, where he is developed upon as the chosen one and the son of Rosemary and Amadeus Prower, also having an uncle named Merlin. In the Archie Sonic comic, he seemed to have lost his parents at an early age, and admired the [[Wikipedia:Freedom Fighters (Sonic the Hedgehog)|Freedom Fighters]], particularly Sonic. He has grown pretty close with the [[Wikipedia:Princess Sally|Princess Sally]], as he calls her Aunt Sally. He is also Sonic's surrogate little brother. Jules and Bernie Hedgehog (Sonic's parents in the comic version) also view Tails as a son to them. During his journey through space, Sonic met Tails' parents on Argentium, home planet of the Bem aliens.

When he absorbs fifty rings and seven Chaos Emeralds, he becomes Turbo Tails. His fur color changes from orange to dark orange, all natural abilities are upgraded and he is, like Super Sonic, immune to all attacks that come his way. He has only once made an appearance as Super Tails after he had absorbed the power of a thousand power rings in a battle along side Ultra Sonic against the evil wizard Ixis Naugus. He was aided by four flickies that have chaos energy and that will attack whatever he wishes them to. Tails, like Sonic, has multiple other-dimensional counterparts, whom he teamed up with to fight his nemesis, Mammoth Mogul. When this proved ineffective, Tails merged with his alternate selves to become a massive cosmic being known as Titan Tails.

Archie Comics produced a supplementary 3-issue mini-series in the mid-nineties, in which Tails embarked on a solo adventure to the land of Downunda, a supposed parallel of Australia, where several marsupials befriended him including one Barby Koala. Leading into the story arc featured in the mini-series was a two-part mini-adventure in which Tails encountered a disguised robot named [[Wikipedia:Minor characters in Sonic the Hedgehog (Archie)#Fiona Fox|Fiona Fox]], a robotic duplicate of a young vixen. He fell in love with her before discovering her robotic nature. The organic counterpart of Fiona is now featured in the Archie comic and Tails seems to have a crush on her, although she is less than interested in him as she is several years older. (Fiona Fox herself has recently been seen dating, of all people, Sonic; Tails ended up screaming "I HATE YOU!" at Sonic when he found out.)

In Sonic X, Tails develops a love interest in [[Wikipedia:List of minor characters in Sonic the Hedgehog#Cosmo|Cosmo]], the plant-like alien girl introduced in Season 3. The strength of Tails' love is shown in Episode 73, where [[Shadow the Hedgehog|Shadow]], in an attempt to kill Cosmo, clobbers Sonic, Chris, and Knuckles, but, despite his best efforts, could not manage to get past Tails. Unfortunately, Cosmo sacrifices herself in Episode 77, fusing herself with the Metarex planet so that Tails could destroy it with the Sonic Driver; Tails was extremely hesitant to fire, and only did so at the urging of Cosmo herself and Dr. Eggman. In Episode 78, Super Sonic and Super Shadow use Chaos Regeneration to try to bring Cosmo back to life, but only manage to produce a small seed. When Sonic shows the seed to Tails, the fox collapses on the floor and starts crying. However, it is possible that Sonic and Shadow succeeded; at the end of the episode, the seed began to sprout.

===How Sonic and Tails met===
In every version of the Sonic series, there is a different version of how Sonic and Tails met (excluding ''Sonic Underground'', since Tails was absent from it). As stated earlier, in the video game version (as taken from the official ''Sonic the Hedgehog 2'' manual) Sonic instantly became Tails' idol when Tails first witnessed Sonic's incredible speed. After Sonic sees that the young fox is actually able to catch up with him he recruits him as his sidekick. This scene can be witnessed in ''Sonic Adventure'' in a flashback during Tails' story.

In ''Sonic X'', Tails and Sonic became friends after Tails rebuilt and repainted Sonic's antique airplane. Before he met Sonic, Tails was bullied by other animals where he lived because of his skills.

In a flashback shown in the ''Adventures Of Sonic the Hedgehog'' episode "Tails' New Home", Tails literally landed on top of Sonic. The baby fox cub explains to Sonic he had just been kicked out the nest of some birds, young Tails had decided he was a bird due to his ability to fly. Sonic tells him he is in fact a fox and is shocked to see that he can actually fly. Baby Tails follows Sonic and after getting him into some mishaps, Sonic agrees that Tails can stay with him.

In ''Sonic The Comic'', Sonic saved Tails from drowning in a swamp when they first met when he saw two tails peering from the swamp, the rest of Tails' body completely submerged. Mistakenly believing there were two foxes in the swamp, Sonic only had time to grab one tail and believed one fox had drowned; he soon realized that both tails belonged to the same fox.

The [[Saturday morning cartoon]] did not give an explanation as to how they met, but the comics based off of it did. In the flashback story "Eve of Destruction", the five-year-old Sonic witnesses Tails' birth and immediately befriends the newborn fox a few minutes (or two pages) later.

In all honesty, SHR! had about 30 or so episodes, most starring ANIMALS, and accompanying other characters and music. Bill (in "I'm Just a Bill") was only in the one episode about how the United States Federal Government worked. I think it definitely fits in on WikiFur... Starting in the fall of 1970, El Gato was seen in the mainland United States, when WAPA-TV's owner at the time (Screen Gems Broadcasting) bought Spanish/English hybrid independent station [[w:WNJU-TV|WNJU-TV]] 47 in New York City. Similarly, another station promo used the phrase, "Hasta el gato, te-ve el cuatro" and the cat itself was alternately known as "el Gato de Cuatro".

Like other mascots, El Gato was seen in different situations in different on-air promos. Besides playing the bongos, he would also play the drums or go surfing and was seen in one station ID as a matador. == Introduction: About the Network ==
The '''American Broadcasting Company''' (not to be confused with public broadcaster ''Australian Broadcasting Corporation'') is a broadcast television network in the United States of America, covering basically all of the United States with over-the-air broadcast stations and coverage on cable television providers. The network was formed in 1948 after NBC was forced to sell its "NBC Blue" network radio stations. The first television stations affiliated with ABC took to the air in 1948 and the network grew throughout the 1960s. By 1977, it became the highest-rated network for the first time, later settling into second place throughout the 1980s and 1990s. Like most other American broadcast television networks, ABC [[w:ABC Owned Television Stations|owns some of its biggest television stations]], while the remainder are owned by third parties (such as Sinclair Broadcast Group and E.W. Scripps Broadcasting). Though the network has no direct affiliates in Canada, the network is carried on basic cable throughout the country, and its CTV television network has aired the vast majority of ABC's Saturday Morning lineup for those too far from the border to receive american stations directly.

In 1985, ABC was purchased by a third-party owner of mostly ABC-affiliated television stations, Capital Cities Communications. During this "CapCities/ABC" era, the network became its most conservative (not politically, but rather sticking to tried-and-true ideas of what worked for television shows), but maintained a very healthy audience. In 1989, ABC launched the family-oriented ''[[wikipedia:TGIF (ABC)|TGIF]]'' programming block on Friday nights, which often had tie-ins (in the form of program bumpers and cross-promotions during commercial breaks) to ABC's saturday morning block. In 1993, ABC bought French-American animation house [[w:DiC Entertainment|DiC Entertainment]] (creators of various animated shows, such as [[Heathcliff]] and [[Sonic the Hedgehog]]). They would sell DiC in 2000.

'''''Crusader Rabbit''''' was the first animated series produced especially for television. The first episode of ''Crusader vs. the State of Texas'' was aired (locally) over [[wikipedia:KNBC-TV|KNBH]] in Los Angeles on August 1, 1950.

Until the debut of the series, cartoons on TV had originally been produced as cinema shorts, especially for Saturday matinées for children. Despite the name of the character and his appearance as a horse-riding knight in armor in the title sequence, the series had nothing to do with religious crusades, but were very short and usually satirical episodic adventures in the form of the familiar serial, with a cliffhanger ending to each episode.

The original run had very limited animation, at times appearing almost as a series of narrated storyboards with frequent cuts and minor movement of the characters. This was due to the VERY small budget Jay Ward and Alex Anderson had to film the series.

The series was originally syndicated from 1950 - 1951, lasting 195 episodes (ten "crusades"), and reran for many years and featured a brave Crusader Rabbit, his pal Ragland T. Tiger (Rags), and their nemesis, usually a variation of the 19th century stage black-cloaked, moustache-twirling villain. Rags's name was a play on the jazz tune, Tiger Rag.

The series was revived and 13 new "crusades" (260 color episodes) were produced in 1957 by Shull Bonsall's Capitol Enterprises. Bonsall had bought out Television Arts Productions, and the rights to "Crusader", after a long legal battle between Jay Ward & Alex Anderson, Jerry Fairbanks and NBC as to which of them owned the rights to the series (see below). Animation facilities were provided by Bonsall's Creston Studios, aka "TV Spots, Inc.", under the supervision of Bob Ganon and Gerald Ray. He was one of the animators on the original Anderson & Ward episodes. In most areas, the new series wasn't seen until early 1959. One change was that Bonsall combined all of the similar villains into one, Dudley Nightshade (a play on the poisonous plant, deadly nightshade), claiming that the others such as Whetstone Whiplash and Ill-Regard Beauregard had been Dudley in disguise.

The idea of an animated series made for television originated with animator Alex Anderson, who worked for Terrytoons Studios. Terrytoons preferred to remain with film animation, and Anderson approached Jay Ward for financing. Ward became business manager and producer and joined with Anderson to form "Television Arts Productions". They tried selling the series to the NBC television network, who assigned Jerry Fairbanks as "supervising producer". Fairbanks was the network's official provider of filmed TV programs in the late '40s. In the end, NBC did not telecast "Crusader Rabbit" on their network, but allowed Fairbanks to sell the series in national syndication, with many of the NBC affiliates (including New York and Los Angeles) buying it for local showings. For example, WNBC-TV in New York continued to show the original "Crusader Rabbit" episodes, on and off, from 1949 through 1967, and some affiliates used the shorts as time fillers well into the 1970s.

The voice of Crusader Rabbit was provided by Lucille Bliss in the original series, and Ge Ge Pearson in the revived series. Vern Louden played Rags in both. In the initial series, Dudley Nightshade was played by Russ Coughlin and narration was by Roy Whaley.

Jay Ward went on to produce the better known and more popular [[Rocky and Bullwinkle|The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show]] (also known as "Rocky and His Friends" and "The Bullwinkle Show"), with much the same structure and characterization, and the roles held by Crusader, Rags and Dudley taken by Rocky the Squirrel, Bullwinkle the Moose, and quasi-Soviet spies Boris and Natasha.

In 1985, Rhino Entertainment released the first two volumes in a planned re-release of all of the original episodes on videotape. However, they had to discontinue this plan when a dispute arose over who held the ownership rights to the series. When it was discovered that Twentieth Century-Fox owned the series, due to their acquisition of previous owner Metromedia Producers Corp. in 1986, Fox allowed Rhino to release only the two volumes already on the market. Any future video release by Fox has yet to be announced.

The television show was meant as a booster for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles line, with popularity being seen in the high ratings. Why the series was cut was due to a merger between ABC and Disney in 1994. It was rebroadcast on the Disney cable network (Toon Disney) until 2001.

== The Mesa ==
The show suggests that a meteor with radioactive properties hit the mesa, then 'evolved' the living beings there in a cloud coving the area. There is not a lot to go on in terms of the process, but simply that they arrive at the point where they are emulating their human counterparts. They dress, behave, and think for the period of time, yet do not have concrete answers for some finite aspects. Should this occur, they try as best as they can to fill in for missing information with loose data and what they already know.

The main three characters were the staple in the series, the comic books, and the toy line. Montana always led the way, Cowlarado was the young gun, and Dakota was reserved. They had some side adventures, things that would further develop their character and give some idea to what the moral of the story was.

Sheriff Terrorbull/The Masked Bull: The Sheriff of Moo Mesa that protects the town, but really is the masked bull who causes the trouble in the town. Some how eludes the heroes with the 'Clark Kent/Superman' trick.

Mayor Oscar Bulloney: mayor of Moo Mesa. Gives children a true to life idea on how a politician works, or at least the part about them bending the rules in their favor.

Hasbro probably had the most fun (and most success) with their super deformed cowboys line. However, it didn't stop with action figures. Figures, playsets, vehicles, inflatables, lunch boxes, underwear, dental hygiene products such as toothbrushes, watches, safety scissors, sunglasses, fruit snacks (do NOT eat), and other various toys were made available and in force for the holiday seasons of 1992 and 1993. Many of which can be found on internet auction sites such as eBay for, well, cheap. The real goldmine for collecting in this field would be finding the VHS tapes that made the series a hit.

"First airing on Saturday, August 12 of 2006, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Fast Forward's third episode involved young Cody O'Neill's Robodojo being taken over by a living computer virus. The Robodojo was similar to the Danger Room in Marvel's X-Men, generating holographic settings and characters to interact with. In this third episode, the virus created a wild west setting, which featured several characters and settings from the Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa television series."

Until 2009, user Wulf ran a Geocities website named "Queer as Lylat", an erotic StarFox-themed fansite, containing artwork, a large amount of fanfiction by various artists, and character profiles, all focusing on the StarFox fandom, located at http://www.geocities.com/queer_as_lylat/ (now closed). Other portions of the website in operation while on Geocities also included a guestbook (also shut down), and a [http://community.livejournal.com/queer_as_lylat/ community on LiveJournal].

Upon shut down, a mirror of 90% of the site was copied by RingtailedFox, and with the former webmistress (Wulf)'s permission and appreciation, allowed to be continued on MobianLegends, and even assisted with the restoration of the website.

Since its revival, "Queer as Lylat", has been located at [http://qal.mobianlegends.com http://qal.mobianlegends.com]. The website's relaunch has been met with praise and gratitude by the fanfic writers of QaL. Content (such as stories and art for QaL) are also handled by the Adult Section of MobianLegends.

== Shutdown ==
On December 22, 2013, the server suffered a catastrophic failure from MySQL 5.5, which ended up cascading into a server-wide data loss. While the data was restored, the server housing MobianLegends and its websites remained touch-and-go, operating nowhere near as efficient as before. Once it was determined a total format an re-install of CentOS and re-upload of all of its content was the only way to restore the system to its previous state, it was agreed upon by [[User:RingtailedFox|RingtailedFox]] and his assistants to simply shut down operations after giving others 90 days' notice and helping those that were hosted by ML find new homes. The server remained up until roughly mid-March 2014, when it was re-purposed (and CloudFlare stopped mirroring it). Ultimately, RingtailedFox let the domain expire and be re-purposed as well, stating he has no desires or intentions to manage websites or servers in the future.

:Let's see... Why do I create stub articles? A variety of reasons, I guess. Being a scientist, recording and cataloguing things goes with the territory. Also, I think the fandom as a whole is ''worth'' recording. And not just all the well-known artists, fursuiters, convention organisers, etc. I think more everyday furries should be included, too, so that WikiFur records a more complete cross-section of the fandom. As to why I create stubs on the AU furries, that's because I'm an Ozfurry myself (though I don't get to be there that often anymore.)
:As to where I gather the names... all sorts of places. LiveJournal, Fur Affinity (with its [http://www.furaffinity.net/user/ozfurs ready-made list of Ozfurs]), Twitter (yes, WikiFur knows [https://twitter.com/KaiAdin/status/250185725281193984 when you're talking about us]), the Fursuit Database, WikiFur itself (lots of red links to google)... pretty much anywhere furries gather online.
:Because the information included in articles is gleaned from public profiles that appear in the simplest google searchs (I, for one, don't bother ''digging'' for information), WikiFur doesn't have any policy regarding asking permission first. '''MobianLegends''' is a Canadian [[Sonic the Hedgehog|Sonic]] fansite, founded by [[User:Ringtailed Fox|Ringtailed Fox]] on October 13, 2008, and based in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, though is open to everyone, regardless of loation. It was formerly partially-hosted by Digibase Operations (with the remainder at Provo, Utah-based [http://www.hostmonster.com Hostmonster.com]), but is now in the process of moving to a full dedicated server at Lansing, Michigan-based [http://www.corenetworks.net CoreNetworks]. The website originally started off as a home to host the fanfic series "Mobian Legends", written by Rozene Kitsune and Ringtailed Fox, but has since grown to include many other areas of the Sonic Fandom as well. The website runs its own custom-written graphical CMS, the "Echidna Rendering System". The website is not strictly Sonic-only, as it also offers a large amount of StarFox-related information, as well as having plans in the future to offer the basics on [[SWAT Kats: The Radical Squadron]], [[Biker Mice from Mars]], and [[The Raccoons]]. The website as a whole has several "essays" and introductions into furry-themed animated programs, like Swat Kats, and Sonic the Hedgehog, as well as Star Fox.

Perhaps the biggest portions of the website is its media area: encompassing over 18 GB of audio files, of nearly EVERY single Sonic the Hedgehog music CD that has been released. One particular part of the media area is well-known: VOM-FM. The format broadcasts chiptunes and the webmaster's favourite classic rock and new wave music. Other stations in the process of being added include VOR-FM (industrial metal), and VOS-AM (Voice of Sonic AM), a low-bitrate (~ 16 kbps) all-Sonic-music format station.

One further extension of the media area that is being proposed is an internet TV station, VOM-TV, which would air classic Sonic cartoon episodes and other material, similar to [[Random Sonic Net]]'s "RSN-TV" feed.

Until 2009, user Wulf51 ran a Geocities website named "Queer as Lylat", an erotic StarFox-themed fansite, containing artwork, a large amount of fanfiction by various artists, and character profiles, all focusing on the StarFox fandom, located at http://www.geocities.com/queer_as_lylat/ (now closed). Other portions of the website in operation while on Geocities also included a guestbook (also shut down), and a [http://community.livejournal.com/queer_as_lylat/ community on LiveJournal].

Upon shut down, a mirror of 90% of the site was copied by RingtailedFox, and with the former webmistress (Wulf51)'s permission and appreciation, allowed to be continued on MobianLegends, and even assisted with the restoration of the website.

In 1993, Nintendo's feature system, the [[wikipedia:Super Nintendo Entertainment System|Super Nintendo Entertainment System]] (or SNES for short) was blessed with the gift of the [[wikipedia:Super FX|Super FX]] graphics chip. This chip, when installed on certain game cartridges, would enable the system to generate and display polygonal 3D sprites and backgrounds which would be a graphical leap potentially larger than that of ''[[Final Fantasy VI]]'' or ''Super Mario World''. The first game to feature this chip was the premier release of ''Star Fox'', a video game classified as a shooter. It was licensed entirely by Nintendo with the help of Argonaut Software in a contract for three Super FX chip games.

''Star Fox'' was hailed as a marvel of graphics technology at the time, and it took a while for the game to really take off as people dived into its unique world. Nintendo later released a second version of the home game and a limited number of cartridges which were used in the "Weekend Competition". This more competitive version kept track of your score and gave you a limited amount of time in which to play. It also sparked the creation of a wristwatch version of the game which was a promotional item people could get from collecting cereal box tops. [[Comic]]s and [[plushies]] followed and were considered the most important aspect to the game’s universe.

In 1995, demand started rising for another game in the series. Nintendo again started work to create a game superior in quality as much as possible. Their efforts included the introduction of all-range stages for the entirety of the game, two additional characters named Miyu (replacing the Andross look alike "Saru" from the alpha) and Fay (replacing a Fara look alike named Lady from another alpha version), new ships and ship transformations, a map in which players could literally fly everywhere, new enemies, and the introduction of Star Wolf. This title was tentatively called ''[[wikipedia:Star Fox 2|Star Fox 2]]'' and held promise as a title that would use the improved [[wikipedia:Super FX|Super FX 2]] chip to control the graphics. This game also included more - and higher quality - synthetic voice clips than its predecessor. However, the release of the [[wikipedia:Nintendo 64|Nintendo 64]] system promised more capability than the SNES and the ''Star Fox 2'' project was scrapped in its final bug-testing stages and thus was never released outside the beta cartridges that were in the company and the demos that were seen at E3.

These few cartridges were eventually turned into ROMS and distributed across the Internet in its original Japanese form. Patches were eventually made and a more or less final version of this beta game was released on the internet. This release had some rumors attached to it. At one time at the E3 expo that it was a feature in, one avid fan tried to steal the cartridge. He never left the booth with it as he was arrested, but Nintendo dropped charges soon thereafter.

Further, Nintendo had sent out eight copies of the full game to major magazines so they could make a review by release day. When the game was canceled, Nintendo asked for the cartridges to be returned. A few magazine companies complied, and a few did not. One of these cartridges showed up at an auction once and sold for over ten thousand dollars due to the rarity of a complete cartridge. It is from one of these cartridges that the ROM circulating the internet was copied from.

Due to the technical completion of ''Star Fox 2'', the third and final game in the contract, Argonaut Software parted ways with Nintendo and returned to its former productions.

===Star Fox 64===

Two years later in 1997, after many discussions from Nintendo and sneak previews, ''Star Fox 64'' was released. This was the first game in the series to use voice actors for real-time dialog, the first ever addition of the Rumble Pack to let players "feel" the game (such as when they got hit by enemy fire), and greater levels of detail along with a rework of the sprites and new vehicles.

The system map split the game into three routes similar to the original game, and unlike the original, it allowed players to change routes depending on their performance in the last mission. This made the game more diverse and expansive than before, since the player could pick a path through the enemy lines to get to the final level which in itself had two possible layouts depending on the attack approach the player took.

Unknown to many players however, were the elements of the game which were carried over from ''Star Fox 2''. Star Wolf, the All Range Mode, and the Wolfen were reused from ''Star Fox 2'' and played a pivotal role in the game, as you could not go through the game without having to go through these things at least once. Each mission also carried a score cap which the player had to meet or exceed to get a medal for that stage, with a requirement that the entire team survive. Collecting all the medals for every stage on the map would unlock an expert mode with more enemies, a smarter AI, and the fragility of the Arwing increased. It also had extras for multiplayer mode which could be unlocked for performing certain tasks; all of this gave the game a decent replay value.

Many people use this game as the definition for what is canon in the Star Fox universe. Star Fox 64 was considered the "test dummy" of what the [[wikipedia:Nintendo 64|Nintendo 64]] could do and was, in simple terms, a remake of the original SNES game.

===Dinosaur Planet===

Started in late 1999, ''Dinosaur Planet'' was intended to be Rare's (a.k.a '''Rareware''') final project for Nintendo before moving on to the [[wikipedia:GameCube|GameCube]] which was called "Project Dolphin" at the time. This game was intended to push the limits of the N64's technology and Rare even had a back story for the game. In fact, they had kept it such a good secret that when they revealed it on the cover of the year 2000 E3 coverage issue of Nintendo Power, the game was closer to completion than many people thought despite the tidbits of information floating around. In fact, they planned to release it in the fourth quarter of 2000.

The game was a tremendous undertaking, having been put on full display at E3 2000 next to ''[[Conker's Bad Fur Day]]'', so people visiting the booth knew the game existed. It was slated to be the largest cartridge released for the N64 with a total size of 512Mb. Stores like Best Buy had already started taking pre-orders for the title.

As the game got closer to being released, people began to feel that something was wrong. There was no advertising for the game, no magazine articles, no previews, not a single thing. The game had more or less evaporated. And sure enough, much like ''Star Fox 2'', the game was at a stage of final bug testing when it was canceled. It seemed that the main character had a resemblance very close to Fox McCloud, a major primary character in the Star Fox series. Also, around that same time Nintendo was working on an adventure game that was to take place on an unspecified planet in the Lylat System. The title wasn't decided and the game wasn't even playable yet so a lot was still in the air. Nintendo wanted to get the game out before the GameCube was launched and unfortunately it appeared that it wasn't going to happen. In their attempts to get the game out, they began to look for complete or near-complete projects that they could convert into what they wanted. Since Rare was a second party, Nintendo had a considerable influence on them and convinced Rare to convert the game into what would later be called ''Star Fox Adventures: Dinosaur Planet''.

Unfortunately, the executives at Rare were torn on the decision. Half the company was for this conversion while half were against it. However, since Nintendo had pulled their title, they missed their launch window for that year and there was no feasible way to market their game in the next year because the GameCube was being released as the replacement for the Nintendo 64. ''Dinosaur Planet'' was thus officially canceled then, and the conversion process began.

Due to increasing stress between Nintendo and Rare at that point, Rare felt insulted that Nintendo hadn't put up any official advertisement effort into their last project: ''Conker's Bad Fur Day''. This was in part due to the fact that the game ran in total contrast to the image Nintendo wanted. Further, the game got little to no publicity because the game's main character was a protagonist who drank, cussed, and urinated in addition to making numerous sex jokes- what little publicity it ''did'' garner was negative. This had soured relations with Nintendo a bit and proved to be a bumpy ride for fans everywhere.

Nintendo wanted the now renamed ''Star Fox Adventures'' to be a [[wikipedia:GameCube|GameCube]] launch title, but it was already 2002 and the system had been out for at least six months. New games were getting hard to come by, just as with the Nintendo 64, and it was not a good image that was being projected.

There had been a few big guns prepared for the fall season which included ''Metroid Prime'' and ''The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker''. They chose to put ''Star Fox Adventures'' into this lineup, although there was a drawback to this kind of power play in that there was almost nothing of value that had been released so far that year except for ''Sonic Adventure 2: Battle''. With everything starting to hit at the same time, Nintendo was competing with itself and ''Wind Waker'' was delayed till 2003. The official reason given for the delay was "translation issues" although unofficially, people believed it was to avoid overshadowing the holiday season.

In the graphical position, ''Star Fox Adventures'' was a masterpiece. The Rare team managed to pull off "fur shading" which let characters have a colored wire frame fur that would react to the environment around them, such as sway in the wind and move their faces and [[tail]]s, something which Microsoft claimed that only Xbox could do and was eventually done on the Xbox in the remake of ''Bad Fur Day'', ''[[Conker: Live and Reloaded]]''. It added a tremendous degree of realism and naturalness to the game that no other game of the time could manage. The cinematic scenes allowed the story to be fleshed out and were choreographed with the animators and musicians to create a movie-like level of quality and depth.

Most of the music for ''Star Fox Adventures'' was ported from the N64 version of ''Dinosaur Planet'' and enhanced in places to allow for the GameCube's additional sound chip. The remaining music was newly composed to be streamed from the disc through live recordings during the cinematics. All of this was managed by David Wise of ''Donkey Kong Country'' fame. Gameplay was like a modified version of the N64 Zelda title ''Ocarina of Time''. Some people complained about that, but others enjoyed it. It was quite a departure from Rare's portfolio of games, which were mostly extensive yet well done item quests.

People wondered why Falco wasn't in the game until the very end of the story and some grew angry about it, demanding to know why he was missing in the first place. In the technical view, there wasn't enough time to work him into the main story, but from the creative standpoint a comic was released by Nintendo of Japan to cover Falco's lack of involvement and to bridge the gap between ''Star Fox 64'' and ''Star Fox Adventures'', which was meant to happen after the SF64 timeline. Unfortunately, it was released after the US version of ''Adventures'' had hit store shelves.

After the release of ''Star Fox Adventures'', Rare parted ways with Nintendo to work under Microsoft and have produced a number of games for both the Xbox and Xbox 360. They have also continued to make a number of smaller titles for the Gameboy Advance and DS.

===Star Fox: Assault===

During a brief conflict with Rare over ''Star Fox Adventures'', Nintendo had been working on a new [[wikipedia:GameCube|GameCube]] title as a direct follow-up of the story from ''Star Fox 64''. They were not planning for the dispute with Rare to end with Nintendo winning the copyrights to Krystal, Tricky, and the other original cast for ''Star Fox Adventures'': this new game was going to be a single-player arcade version of ''Star Fox 64'', yet another remake. However, through luck and their legal department, this game project was scrapped and started over from the ground up. The result was that only one poster for the arcade game was released and only the multiplayer was available for review at E3 2003.

This time around, though, Nintendo contracted Namco to be the new home of Star Fox, and Namco started working on the newest chapter in Star Fox history. Since Nintendo had won the rights to the Star Fox Adventures characters, Namco was able to continue down the path that Rare had begun in Star Fox Adventures, including being able to use Krystal. This caused a setback in the development time and the game was pushed back by at least a year. The new game was to be a story-driven shooter that had ground-based missions thrown into the game's structure and design.

The game's single-player debut made its appearance during the E3 2004 Media Press Conference, and was fully playable on the show floor the very next day. It was proof that Namco could bring the Star Fox franchise together and fans could continue on what is considered one of the longest running and most celebrated space shooters in gaming history. At the time though, the game didn't have a name and it was being simply called ''Star Fox Triforce''. A year afterward, the name was changed to ''Star Fox Armada'' since the game's major focus had been shifted into the story, but it was again renamed simply to ''Star Fox 2'' which was the name of the unreleased SNES predecessor. When fans became confused, it was clarified that this game and the unreleased SNES game had nothing in common except for the name. At E3 2004, the name changed again, this time to ''Star Fox - Coming This Fall''. It was a humorous name, but it conveyed to the fans that Nintendo had no clue what they were really going to call the game.

After one last name change, Namco finally released ''Star Fox: Assault'' to store shelves in February of 2005. It was intended to be released Christmas of 2004, but they had a delay due to fan requests that the game have a LAN mode. This required a total overhaul of the multiplayer engine and thus the option never saw the light of day. Fans had been waiting long enough for the next flight adventure, and Namco was not willing to risk negative publicity and another E3 showoff since there were already two such showings under that game's belt; thus it hit the shelves without the LAN ability. However, some interesting notes about the game point out that the main enemy presence in the story resembles that of the [[MemoryAlpha:Borg|Borg]] from Star Trek. It was a humorous similarity in demeanor and goals.

In August 2006, Nintendo released Star Fox: Command for the [[wikipedia:Nintendo DS|Nintendo DS]]. Command marks the first time the Star Fox series has ever been on a Nintendo handheld or had online multiplayer. Developed by Kyoto based developer Q-Games, Command is in many ways a revival of the cancelled Star Fox 2 (Q-Games was formed by many of the ex-Argonaut Software development teams that worked on Star Fox and Star Fox 2).

The story takes place some time after the events of Assault and the Star Fox team has split up, with Fox and ROB 64 being the only remnants of Star Fox left.
A new threat has invaded the Lylat System: the Anglar, a race of [[anthropomorphic]] [[fish]] aliens from the acidic seas of Venom who's intention is to rule the Lylat System by attacking all of the planets in it. When the Anglar attack Fox's homeworld of Corneria, he begins to counterattack the Anglar forces.

Throughout the game players meet up with both new characters (like Peppy's daughter Lucy Hare) and old ones. (Bill Grey and Katt Monroe make their first appearance since Star Fox 64) The game features various branching pathways which the player can choose at various points in the game. This also marks the first time that you can play as characters other than Fox in single player. The game contains over 30 missions and 9 different endings. Players can only go on one path at the beginning of the game but after getting the first ending the player will gain a "Key of Destiny" which can be used only once each new play-through to go on a different path.

The game is a revival of Star Fox 2 in terms of gameplay as the development team felt like going back to that game and updating many of the gameplay aspects for Command to better fit the Nintendo DS. All aircraft controls (with the exception of shooting lasers) take place on the touch screen while the action itself takes place on the upper screen in all-range mode styled fights.

On an interesting note, Star Fox: Command does contain references and cameos for the F-Zero series (a futuristic racing series also done by Nintendo), which has, in turn, made references to the Star Fox series by way of the character James McCloud, who looks stunningly like the character, though human.
