Riley West Wolf:

I took LAFF NYE over because at the time, no one els would stand up and take it over, and when I did it was drawing closer and closer to NYE, and no one had made any arangements so I stopped at th hotel personally and set it up with the manager there, then from there I went ahead and picked people I feel were capable of helping me run this event, which consisted of, Me (Riley Westwolf/Rex), Lil Blue, Sema, Taren, Blazger, Frostcat, and Locket Foxwolf. And people like Ken Redtail, Navajo Lion and Ultima where fantastic enough to lend in a hand with the event and help out. I took care of all the hotel areangements, signed the contract, Sema was nice enough to get all the food arangements set up, and the registration stuff. She, like everyone involved was a very big help in running this event with out a hitch. As of recent Sema is trying to proove something, I am unsure what, she is trying to take credit for an event that was run by EVERYONE, not just her! She was a big help, but she has nothing to proove by doing such a thing. She needs to remember everyone that helped run the event this year. This is not SEMA NYE, this is LAFF NYE. Sema needs to remember this people, and that LAFF NYE is not hers, it is not any one persons event. I never claimed it as mine. It is LAFF NYE, it is for everyone that wants to come in the LAFF area, or from anywhere, it is an open party for everyone who wishes to come and join in the fun each year! --Riley West Wolf 06:00, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

Lake Area Furry Friends (also known as LAFF) is a regional social group focused on the northern Illinois, southern Wisconsin, and northwestern Indiana, including the Chicago, Milwaukee, and Madison metropolitan areas.

History
LAFF came into being in 1996 as a more regionally-oriented mailing list than its predecessor, the ChiFur mailing list, which was focused around Chicago. It has since become the dominant furry group in the region and has branched off into cyberspace to LiveJournal and MySpace communities, moderated by Artemis and Ash M. Cairo respectively, to the Second Life group, founded by Sema JayHawk, and helped moderated by Blazger and Steel the Warrior. Its main website was created in 1998 by Aureth on his Cornwuff Press site. Artemis took over as webmaster in 1999; he revamped and ran the site on catbox.com until 2007 when, under the direction of Ash M. Cairo, Ken Redtail and Zel, a new website was created using a wiki format.

The present
Currently, the community is based around the "LAFF mailing list," which is hosted at catbox.com by puma. The mailing list is primarily used to organize social functions, including a monthly bowling outing (organized by Shale Ari) which is usually followed by a trip to White Castle for SliderCon (organized by Sema JayHawk) or Pizza For the People (organized by Shale Ari), as well as monthly softball games in the summer (organized by Stevie Maxwell), and the annual trip to Noah's Ark Water Park in the Wisconsin Dells (organized by Hakeber). The year culminates in a grand New Years Eve party in Northern Illinois. In past years, that's been organized by Linnaeus but in 2006, the party was hosted by Riley West Wolf with the help of several other furs. Numerous weekly events also take place, as well as one-off outings organized by community members.
