GoldenHorn (GH) is an annual Slovenian furry convention.

Overview
Hosted by the Slovenian regional group SloFurs, the event's stems from a Slovenian folk tale of the same name (Slovene: Zlatorog) about an invulnerable magical Alpine chamois or ibex.

History
The inaugural GoldenHorn was held from Friday, September 15, 2023, to Sunday, September 17, 2023, at the Youth Hostel Ajdovščina, situated next to the Hubelj river in the small western Slovenian town of Ajdovščina.

The convention was planned to have a maximum attendance of 75 people, with registration being available for six months between March 10 and September 10. In total, 81 attendees were registered, with 79 actually attending for either a single day or the full three days.

There were 37 fursuiters present in total. The bulk of attendees, at 84%, were either from Slovenia or Italy, with a relatively even split. The remaining 16% were from a variety of other European Union countries. A little over a third of all attendees didn't have, need, or rent accommodation elsewhere due to the hostel's limited sleeping capacity of 50 people. About three-quarters of the attendees identified as male, while the remaining quarter was split between those identifying as female and those who wished not to specify. The minimum age for attendance was 18, as the bar served alcoholic beverages.

The theme of the convention was Ancient Rome, and as such, names of a handful of events and places were given a Latin language twist. It contained typical convention staples and amenities, such as a Dealer's Den, fursuit lounge, snack exchange, dance events, games corner, and a group photoshoot.

However, keeping with the theme, there were also more unique events, such as a toga party on the first day and Lupercalia on the second—a short theatrical performance inspired by the Roman fertility festival of the same name.

Over the course of the convention, attendees could collect up to five individual letter stickers that spelled out the mascot's name, depending on how many events they actively participated in. Those who collected all five had their names entered into a raffle for a mystery prize, which would be revealed at the closing ceremony alongside the winner. The prize ended up being a half-off admission to the next GoldenHorn.

Move to the Adria Ankaran resort
In 2024, the convention moved to the Adria Ankaran resort, located directly on the Slovenian coastline in the city of Ankaran, where some of the special events, such as the Treasure hunt and sticker/stamp collection, were held again, along with many other panels and meet and greets, as well as bouncy castles in 2025. Due to its proximity to the sea and natural surroundings, the convention had many photo and video opportunities for attendees. It also offered a unique experience for resort guests, since the accommodation was spread out around the resort, which gave a feeling of being in nature.

The convention attendance almost doubled each year, reaching 309 registrations in 2025.

GoldenHorn 2025 convention attack
In November 2025, on the night of Saturday 15 to Sunday 16 at around 1 in the morning, a group of outsiders crashed a room party by using a fire extinguisher and violence on attendees. They then tried to enter other rooms without success before vanishing into the night.
The police and Ambulance were immediately called, and the injured people received the necessary medical attention.

Move to Hotel Slovenija in Portorož
Due to the increased attendance numbers, the convention moved to a new location, providing the convention spaces and accommodation under one roof. GoldenHorn 2026 will take place at Hotel Slovenija in Portorož, still remaining on the Slovenian coast.

GoldenHorn, also known under the abbreviation GH, is an international furry convention held in Slovenia, hosted by SloFurs. The name stems from a Slovenian folk tale of the same name (Slovene: Zlatorog) about an invulnerable magical Alpine chamois or ibex. This also inspired the official mascot of the convention, Goldy.

Pur3Bolt: Add the GH 24 convention summary

GoldenHorn
The second edition of GoldenHorn was held from Thursday, November 7th, 2024, to Sunday, November 10th, 2024, at the Adria Ankaran Resort, situated next to the Adriatic sea in the small Slovenian city Ankaran. Compared to the first year, the convention attendance more than doubled, with 171 registered attendees from Europe and the Americas, with registration being available for six months from June 1st. In the end, 163 attendees actually attended, either for a single day or the full convention. There were 59 convention sponsors, 73 fursuiters and 13 registered dealers. Unlike in 2023, when most attendees were from Slovenia, this year, the highest attendance was from Italy, with 47% of attendees accounting for Italy and 31% of Slovenians in second place. The minimum attendance age was 18, as is common with European conventions.

The convention's theme was Furries of The Seven Seas because of the proximity of the convention Resort to the sea. It contained typical convention staples and amenities, such as a dealers' den (thematically called the Dealers' Dock), fursuit lounge, snack exchange, various music events, a games corner,... During the convention, attendees could collect up to five stamps on their badges by attending panels and other activities. Those who collected all five had their names entered into a raffle for mystery prizes that were revealed at the closing ceremony alongside the winners. The prizes ended up being discounted (or free) admissions to the next GoldenHorn.

Pur3Bolt: Rewrote the article to split the association and regional group

The regional group
Online presence
SloFurs is a Slovenian regional group of furries. Its roots go back to the late 2000's when an IRC chat was first created with 5 members. Although known under the name Sophisticated at the time, it was later renamed to SloFurs for better discoverability, however the group remained small in numbers.

In 2010 a Furaffinity profile was created to help with identifying Slovenian furries amongst themselves. A list of members was included, as well as links to other relevant socials. Three years later a Facebook group was created as well.

The IRC chat was retired and moved to Discord in 2015, which is still active to this day. As of December 2023, there are over 250 users present in the server.

In-person presence
The first meets happened in the early 2010's with around 10 attendees on each and two or so fursuits present as well. Attendance grew slowly, but steadily, throughout the years - it doubled to around 20 attendees by 2017 and reaching up to 38 attendees on meets in 2023 (averaging around 30 attendees after 2022).

SloFurs organised the first Slovenian furry convention in 2020, occurring betwen August 7th and August 9th, under the name Betacon to signify the 10th anniversary of the regional group. There were 20 attendees and 7 fursuiters attending.
The convention resumed in 2023, under its new name GoldenHorn. Attendance at the convention was much higher than at previous events, reaching also a high amount of international participants - the final head count was 81 attendees and 37 fursuiters.

Roughly 3-5 events are organised each year to bond members of the Slovenian furry community, as well as neighbouring countries, although everyone is invited to participate.

The association/organization
Društvo SloFurs, also known under its long name as Društvo ljubiteljev antropomorfnih živali SloFurs (Association for fans of anthropomorphic animals SloFurs), is a registered cultural organization based in Nova Gorica, Slovenia. Founded in 2020, it exists to finance and organize the Slovenian furry convention GoldenHorn, as well as countles local meets and walks.

People
As of December 2023, the organization had 7 members. Membership in the association is not needed to partake or to volunteer at events, which is why the number remains low. Members decide on financial and legal decisions, organise events as well as help shape the future of the regional group.

The inaugural GoldenHorn was held from Friday, September 15th, 2023 to Sunday, September 17th, 2023 at Youth Hostel Ajdovščina, situated next to the Hubelj river in the small western Slovenian town of Ajdovščina. The convention was planned to have a maximum attendance of 75 people, with registration being available for six months between March 10th and September 10th. In the end, 81 attendees were registered in total with 79 actually attending either for a single day or the full three days. There were 37 fursuiters present in total. The bulk of attendees, at 84%, were either from Slovenia or Italy, with a relatively even split. The remaining 16% were from a variety of other European Union countries. A little over a third of all attendees didn't have/need and/or rented accommodation elsewhere due to the hostel only having a sleeping capacity of 50 people. About three quarters of the attendees identified as male while the remaining quarter was split between those identifying as female and those who wished not to specify. The minimum attendance age was 18 due to the bar serving alcoholic beverages.

The theme of the convention was Ancient Rome, and as such, names of a handful of events and places were given a Latin language twist. It contained typical convention staples and amenities, such as a Dealer's Den, fursuit lounge, snack exchange, dance events, games corner, and a group photo shoot. However, keeping with the theme, there were also more unique events, such as a toga party on the first day and "Lupercalia" on the second—a short theatrical performance inspired by the Roman fertility festival of the same name. Over the course of the convention, attendees could collect up to five individual letter stickers that spelled out the mascot's name, depending on how many events they actively participated in. Those who collected all five had their names entered into a raffle for a mystery prize that would be revealed at the closing ceremony, alongside the winner. The prize ended up being a half-off admission to the next GoldenHorn.
