Anthro Swim (often shortened as <AS> or AS) is an online furry community centered around a Reddit subreddit dedicated to surreal, nostalgic, and unconventional themes within furry fandom artwork and media.

Founded in 2021, though effectively unused until early 2024, the community has expanded beyond its subreddit origins into a multi-platform ecosystem spanning several social media sites and messaging platforms.

Overview
Anthro Swim's description reads:

Both English and Spanish are commonly used within the community.

Media shared in the community includes images, animation, video edits, writing, and music. Posts often emphasize surrealism, nostalgia, melancholy, or experimental aesthetics that differ from more conventional furry art themes.

While most participants identify as furries, some users who do not consider themselves part of the fandom also participate or follow the community.

The subreddit describes itself as a "Wild West [within reason]", reflecting its intentionally broad scope for artistic interpretation.

Community members sometimes describe Anthro Swim as emphasizing emotional or surreal storytelling through anthropomorphic characters. Artist DWC Marshal Arts described the community as "a punch to the face… something real, visceral, tangible."

Although originally focused on Reddit, the Anthro Swim community now maintains a presence across several platforms including social media, messaging services, and an independent website.

History
Anthro Swim was founded on June 28, 2021 by Poppa Boi. The community was created after the founder perceived a lack of spaces for experimental or surreal furry media.

The name "Anthro Swim" combines "anthro" with a reference to Adult Swim, the late-night programming block on Cartoon Network, reflecting stylistic similarities observers often noted between the creator's work and Adult Swim aesthetics.

Although created in 2021, the community remained relatively small during its early years. Significant growth occurred during the mid-2020s as more artists began sharing work in the community.

As of Spring 2026, the subreddit has grown to tens of thousands of members and features daily submissions from artists and participants.

A recurring piece of community slang is poast (or poasting), referring to particularly notable posts or posting behavior.

* (Example usage: "She's my favorite poaster." "They've poasted longer than I've been alive.")

Initially consisting mostly of media similar to the founder's own work, the subreddit later developed into a broader hub for artists exploring darker or more unconventional furry themes.

Harold
Harold is a recurring symbolic character associated with the Anthro Swim community.

The character is typically depicted as a semi-mysterious truck driver operating a 1990s Peterbilt semi-truck. Harold appears in various pieces of artwork shared by the community and is prominently featured in banners across several Anthro Swim platforms.

Within community interpretations, Harold is often described as a symbolic representation of the community itself. Frequently he's depicted as the figure "delivering" artistic works across the internet.

Harold's background is intentionally ambiguous. Community lore portrays him as a quiet and enigmatic traveler whose personal history is largely unknown. Various artworks reference him traveling long distances across the Americas while continuing his journey.

Despite being portrayed as a physical truck driver, Harold is sometimes interpreted metaphorically as representing the collective activity of the community and the continuous movement of media shared within it.

Anthro Swim (often shortened as <AS> or AS) is a user-created community (subreddit) within Reddit dedicated to uncommonly traversed themes within the furry fandom at large.

Overview
Anthro Swim's description reads:

Both English and Spanish are the accepted primary languages of posting.

<AS> Media shared not only on the sub but across other platforms mainly comprises of images, videos, writing, and music. Discussions, both community feedback and subject explorations, are present as well. "Poasters" and lurkers are principally furries though a non-insignificant number of people explicitly identifying as not a furry also partake in the community.

History
The subreddit's history starts on Jun 28, 2021, by Poppa Boi, who, perceiving there were no feasibly pertinent communities for the media they created, began one themselves. Their content creation often referred to as "Furry Adult Swim" by both followers and friends, the somewhat abstract nature an outlier amongst more common furry themes such as "Animation Music Videos". Noting their work's continued comparison to Adult Swim by groups independent of each other, the name "Anthro Swim" appears by combining the term "Anthro" & Cartoon Network's late night channel block "Adult Swim" illustrating a hazy yet comprehensible concept of the focus matter. Technically beginning upon it's creation date, <AS> is seldom used by Poppa Boi until early 2024, gaining the vast majority in the same year. The sub has 3K+ members with people "poasting" daily.

* (Poasting is a term for people who often post well-liked works. Usable as a noun/verb/adjective. "She's my favorite poaster." "They've poasted longer than I've been alive." "Nah that's no poast, that's a bombshell [bad])

Initially comprising solely of their work's stylistic themes, it's evolved into a minor hub for (not only but especially) furries who desire a more stylistically mature presence.

Article talk pages are to discuss anything regarding the subject such as editing, information (valid or not), issues, propositions, changes, validity, points/counterpoints, etc, so definitely not a place to mingle. Anthro Swim (often shortened as <AS> or AS) is a user-created community (subreddit) within Reddit dedicated to uncommonly traversed themes within the furry fandom at large.

Anthro Swim's description reads:

Poppaboi: minor spelling change

The Anthro fandom, full anthropomorphic fandom, is a subculture composed of individual Anthro fans and artists who enjoy the wholesome/SFW aspect of furry/funny animal characters and their art and stories.

Most anthros also have no interest in being identified with the furry fandom because of the (mainly) perceived sexualization of these characters and creatures, furries' social or lifestyle interests, and/or the perceived "baggage" that said fandom carries (controversies, mainstream perception, etc).

Some furries do identify as anthro just for the name itself, not the label.

Philosophy and beliefs
Many anthro fans and artists consider themselves conservative in nature (political or religion-wise), without being extremist (with a few exceptions).cn

Anthro Swim is a user-created community (known as a subreddit) on Reddit dedicated to uncommonly traversed themes within the "furry fandom" at large. It's description reads "For the moodier incoherent side of anthros. AdultSwim-esque? Kinda! Though, look deeper through the waters and you'll find something more. Esotericism? Nostalgia?" Both English and Spanish are the accepted primary languages of posting. English dwarfs Spanish in usage, however Spanish is not entirely absent.

History
The subreddit's history starts on Jun 28, 2021 by Poppa Boi. Perceiving there's no feasibly pertinent community for the media they created, they begin one themselves. Initially comprising solely of their works stylistic themes, somewhat frequently referred to as "Furry Adult Swim" by both followers and friends, it's evolved into a minor hub for (not only but especially) furries who desire a more stylistically mature presence. This is where the name is derived from, combination of Anthro and Adult Swim. "Poasters" and lurkers are principally furries though a non-insignificant number of people explicitly identifying as not a furry also partake in the community. It is fairly undefined in its scope, with the first rule of the sub declaring it "A Wild West [within reason]".

Reddit, stylized in its logo as reddit, is an American social news aggregation, web content rating, and discussion website.

Founded on June 23, 2005, it allows registered members to submit content to the site such as links, text posts, and images, which are then voted up or down by other members.

Posts are organized by subject into user-created boards called subreddits, which cover a variety of topics like news, science, movies, video games, music, books, fitness, food, and image-sharing. Submissions with more up-votes appear towards the top of their subreddit and, if they receive enough up-votes, ultimately on the site's front page.
