===In furry worlds===
<!-- this subsection could benefit from additional information -->
Human beings are fairly common in stories (art, literature, film, etc) depicting [[anthropomorphic]] characters ([[furry]] media). In many, perhaps particularly in children's movies, they cohabit with anthropomorphic characters and may or may not be aware of their presence or their intelligence. Indeed, recognition of this--and subsequent relationship between humans and furry elements--may be a plot point. In others, it is scarcely addressed.

Where the two are present concurrently and aware of the other, the relationship between them may be friendly or antagonistic. In some cases, there seems to be little inherent problem; the universe of Gene Roddenberry's "[[Star Trek]]" acting as a prime illustration. In others, for example [[Wikipedia:Larry Niven|Larry Niven]]'s ''Ringworld,'' conflicts exist but are not bred from anything in the 'difference' between man and 'the other.'

In others, however, the existence of this difference itself is a key motivation for antagonism. In some instances this is presented as an analogue of the Civil Rights movement, generally with the furry characters acting out the role of the oppressed minority. Personal relationships across species lines can be depicted as stigmatized, recalling beliefs about miscegenation.

In most stories, humans are, or are seen as, the oppressors. Humanity definitely will show characteristics of Xenophobia, a fear of different life forms, <ref>{{cite web |url= http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AbsoluteXenophobe |title=Absolute Xenophobe |accessdate=2011-14-03 |publisher=Tv Tropes}}</ref> to one degree or another. In these stories or scenarios, humans are highly aggressive, preferring to destroy what they do not understand, or is different from them, than to use diplomatic or other peaceful means of resolving problems. Many, if not all, humans will seek to take advantage of everything and everyone. However this does not only apply to furry stories, but to most stories were there are characters which are not human, like District 9 and James Cameron's Avatar. <ref>{{cite web |url= http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/HumansAreBastards |title=Humans Are Bastards |accessdate=2011-14-03 |publisher=Tv Tropes}}</ref> If a story takes the point of view of animals, or relatively weak or primitive non-humans, then humans are often seen as the perpetrators, antagonists, or simply, "savages".<ref>{{cite web |url=http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/HumansAreCthulhu |title=Humans Are Cthulhu |accessdate=2011-14-03 |publisher=Tv Tropes}}</ref> When humans also have ill intent for each other, or are generally just bad people, it is a sad state of living.<ref>{{cite web |url=http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/CrapsackWorld |title=Crapsack World |accessdate=2011-14-03 |publisher=Tv Tropes}}</ref> Note that in some stories where there is a species superior to humans, this species might be physically stronger, more intelligent, of purer intent, and may also be able to transform, and/or mutate, humans into other species, or use hypnosis or mind control, which can lead to the human targeted to lose control of their actions and logic. <ref>{{cite web |url=http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/FRidgeLogic |title=F Ridge Logic |accessdate=2011-14-03 |publisher=Tv Tropes}}</ref> This can cause the humans to become the oppressors in the first place. However the superior race can also became a Mary Suetopia.<ref>{{cite web |url=http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MarySuetopia |title=Mary Suetopia

In some instances, the very existence of anthropomorphic characters is credited to human beings, as in Clifford Simak's ''City'' or a number of less well-known pieces of literature. Here, this very fact may enter into the details of the dynamic between the two, recalling to some degree the fascination of [[science fiction]] with robotics and artificial intelligence.

Of course, a number of stories lack humans entirely. Occasionally an explanation is presented for this that acknowledges the once or current existence of human beings, though more frequently the rules of the universe simply replace them outright with furry counterparts. This, as well, is a comparatively common setup in anthropomorphic literature and artwork; perhaps the dominant archetype.

===In real life===
<!-- this subsection could benefit from additional information -->
While all members of the furry fandom simultaneously belong to the species ''Homo sapiens'', this fact in and of itself seems to be occasionally a source of conflict: outside observers may notice a current of misanthropy running through some of the fandom, manifesting itself in ways subtle and otherwise. Additionally, a small but not necessarily insignificant percentage of furries appear to repudiate their ties to the human race entirely.

Furthermore, and somewhat intriguingly, the separation between furry and non-furry mentioned in the previous section--if not truly antagonistic--may not confine itself entirely to the world of art and the imagination. Online [[role-play]]ing program [[Second Life]] supports a furry community that, according to an article in the Austin ''360'', practices a degree of self-imposed segregation between itself and 'human' role-players.<ref>{{cite web |url=http://www.austin360.com/recreation/content/recreation/video_games/features/secondlife/secondlife_4.html |title=Welcome To Your Second Life |accessdaymonth=18 January |accessyear=2010 |last=Stafford |first=Joe |date=2005-01-23 |work=austin360.com |publisher= |pages=4 |archiveurl= |archivedate= |quote= }}</ref>

For some there may also be a mental difference rather than an anatomical one, which, in some people's opinion, represents the difference between one
sentient species and another. For them, it's a matter of mental texture in a thinking species that sets subspecies of human from one another, despite the physical similarities.

This article has been flagged as potentially inappropriate and may be a candidate for deletion. However I see that it is a very new article (about 2 weeks old) so let's not rush to judgment. Can the article be made more relevant to Furry? This really isn't the place for a biology lesson in and of itself, but if the content can be tied to the fandom then it becomes relevant. I question how many furs are going to find this article though. The common term is [[Scalies]] and we have an article for that already, albeit a short one.

A few reservations/suggestions:

*the biological info is best suited for [[Wikipedia]], but if it remains it should be referenced.
*the "known cold-blooded Furries (Scalies)" section references fictional characters outside the fandom, so it's really a list of known cold-blooded popular characters.
*consider merge to [[Scalies]] with edits.
*However, because of the negative connotation of "cold-blooded" when applied to people (e.g., "a cold-blooded villain"), I don't think we will see many Scalies self-identifying as "Cold-Blooded" nor do I think many would consider it particularly flattering.

These are just my opinions. I'd love to hear others. --[[User:CodyDenton|CodyDenton]] 11:04, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
: At [[Russian WikiFur]], we have "[[:ru:Ящеры и теплокровные|Lizards and warm-blooded]]" article which addresses relations and differences between reptile and warm-blooded races. We also have articles on some animal traits. Though most of them start as biological stubs, they are in time expanded with information from RPGs, novels and popular culture in general. Ironically, popular culture is usually more concerned with special animal qualities than "pure" furry fandom %) (but, as I've read somewhere here, no fandom invents its own genre, furry culture is based on animal characters in popular culture.)
: So, I think such articles have potential, and I'm willing to help, if necessary. [[User:EvilCat|EvilCat]] 12:08, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
::I have some reservations, Cody. Looking at the article, it appears to be a precis of [[Wikipedia:Ectotherm|Ectotherm]] followed by a listing of some anthropomorphic reptilian characters from various video games. As such, while of interest to fur fandom, I don't believe it meets a minimal standard of content for Wikifur. Now, if it included references to, say, various fans with draconic or reptilian characters, maybe a bit of analysis regarding numbers of such characters, common characteristics of such characters, other characters in literature, movies, etc., then I could see it being more along the lines of what Wikifur articles are? This is, of course, my opinion only; as always, your mileage may vary and be sure to change your Count :-) --<font color="#5f200d"><b>[[GingerM]]</b></font> <small>([[User_talk:GingerM|Leave me a message]])</small> 20:27, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
::Er. I should clarify that the other reason I'm not taking a stronger stance on this one is that I have no great personal interest in the subject, not having a scaly fursona and not knowing very many (that I'm aware of). Nor am I inclined personally to do the research to provide extra material, though I believe a quick wander through a site like [[FurAffinity]] - or even here - would probably turn up a dozen or so scaly characters with little effort. If I find myself with an hour or three hanging heavy on my hands, I might do that, in fact. --<font color="#5f200d"><b>[[GingerM]]</b></font> <small>([[User_talk:GingerM|Leave me a message]])</small> 20:30, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
Actually, I'd be more than happy to let one of you to take the reigns on this. I'm new to the furry scene in general, so I'm probably not so suited (no pun intended)for advancing it. However, given the fact it's still here, apparently it is worthy of merit. EvilCat, if you wish, I have no qualms with letting you have this pet project of mine. That seems to me to be more on the level of experimentation/sandboxing, and an "assume good faith" response would be to delete the article, post a reply suggesting that they use the sandbox for further experimentation, and no block. (A block would more likely be appropriate if they had been warned previously, had created or modified multiple articles, or if the added content was otherwise inappropriate such as trolling or spamlinks.) --[[User:Mwalimu|mwalimu]] 19:22, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
== Priest22 ==

Regarding the banning of [[Special:Contributions/Priest22|Priest22]] and the image he had uploaded which you subsequently deleted, he is probably the IP user who attempted to update [[Manawolf]] with [http://en.wikifur.com/w/index.php?title=Manawolf&diff=297950&oldid=276688 this edit], which I reverted. I did in fact check out the DVD link from that edit and did not see any clear indication that the person portrayed was Manawolf; it's possible but beyond them having the same first name (Sarah) I couldn't find anything on the site to make that connection. Even the word 'furry' in the DVD title appears to refer to the actress having never shaved rather than as any sort of reference to the fandom.

Even if it is Manawolf I doubt this belongs on Wikifur. The DVD cover is inappropriate regardless, and the fact that someone appeared in an adult video is in my opinion controversial information that needs good references and needs a good reason to be publicized here.

My only concern is whether giving Priest22 an infinite ban is appropriate in case it turns out that really is Manawolf in the DVD. If it's not her, then yes. If it is her, we should assume good faith and treat it as a case trying to post controversial/derogatory information. And if we don't know, well... I'm not sure. --[[User:Mwalimu|mwalimu]] 18:11, 2 July 2010 (UTC)
Which brings me to a question... right now I'm new to WikiFur, but I support the concept and ideals. I'm also online an insane amount of the time. If I were to want to join the edit patrol at some point in the future, is there a "formal" application process (as there is for wiki admins), or can one just jump in and help? Thanks! --[[User:CodyDenton|CodyDenton]] 08:28, 11 July 2010 (UTC)

:Hi, Cody. There's no formal process for joining those who patrol the recent edits reverting vandalism. Hi Higgs, thanks for the info. A few more questions, if I may? First, I noticed that you added [[Template:ContributorU]] to my friend [[User:Mishi|Mishi's]] user page. I almost had done that a few hours ago myself, but backed out of it since I wasn't sure that a general (non-admin) editor was permitted to edit another User: page. (Ref. [[User Talk:Spirou]]) So for instance, in this case, would it have been OK to add the ContributorU, particularly since Mishi and I are friends and work collaboratively? Or is it best to just avoid the User: page minefield? ;-) Also, with regard to the content spammer earlier that you blocked, I had just blanked the page and put an edit comment as to why. Would it have been better to use a Speedy Deletion tag instead? Thanks for your patient help. --[[User:CodyDenton|CodyDenton]] 11:10, 13 July 2010 (UTC)
:Skiltek, you deleted the contents of "Skiltek" by changing it to a redirect to "Foxmajik", and then started a new page there. That is not how things are done here as it destroys the edit history of the original article. I have corrected this by restoring it and moving it instead - now the edit history is retained. Out of curiosity, is it okay to post a reference sheet of my character on my personal page so others can see, and if so, how can I go about doing that?

[[User:DJaymes|DJaymes]] 19:30, 26 December 2010 (UTC)

:Hello, Dakota,
:By "personal page", do you mean [[User:DJaymes|your personal user page]], or [[Dakota Jaymes|the article about you]]? In either case (or both) the inclusion of a reference sheet would be fine. To include any image, you'll need to upload it first. You'll need to be logged in to do this, then look to the column on the left side of the screen - under "toolbox" there's a link that says "Upload file".

:After you've uploaded a file (it's pretty straightforward, but remember to give the file a ''meaningful'' name), it can be included in an article by inserting some text like:
:<nowiki>[[Image:Filename.jpg|right|thumb|200px|Caption text]]
== Please remove my page ==

As you have probably noticed, [[Rorroh|my page]] is a complete mess. The circumstances for making it in the first place were a little iffy, and the original contents were something I was actually less than comfortable with, even though I was the one who supplied the orginal information. I'm very self-conscious, so after a bit of arguing (with myself, no less. ;)), I decided to just try to kill the weed at it's roots. Could you please delete my page? I have a Fur Affinity account, a WordPress account, and even a Twitter, so I can very easily prove I am he. Or, if it is at all possible, could you remove the edit history? I would actually prefer the removal of the history rather than total deletion.

Thank you,
:Hello, Rorroh,
:Sometimes, if someone is requesting personal exclusion, I get them to leave a comment to that effect on their FA or wherever, but as you created the article in the first place I'll take that as enough proof of identity. Is there a way to prevent editing of a userpage?

:[[WikiFur:Administrators|Administrators]] can do lots of things - though page protection is usually a last resort. If there's clearly an ongoing problem, other will step in. Note that you have the ability to watch pages, and to be emailed when an edit is made to them.
:Bear in mind that like most public wikis, WikiFur is open to all editors. While user pages will generally be left to the user concerned, if the information on them appears particularly one-sided, others may be inclined to edit them. Content that appears to be a description of a subject may also be moved to the main namespace and edited further, as user pages are not intended to replace or duplicate articles (compare [[GreenReaper]] and [[User:GreenReaper]]). --[[User:GreenReaper|GreenReaper]]([[User talk:GreenReaper|talk]]) 05:00, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
Especially not with lies made by anti-furs

:Well, and here's where it gets tricky - when it comes to a wiki, it's ''not'' "your page". It's "our page about you". The User: page is intended to provide information relating to your contributions to WikiFur - not as a venue for presenting your own opinion of yourself without fear of rebuttal; nor for criticizing others, especially when it comes to off-wiki matters. That stuff belongs on your homepage, and [[WikiFur:What WikiFur is not#WikiFur is not a free host or webspace provider|we're not a hosting site]]. == Wiki tagline ==

Just a quick note, because I've noticed it before but not gotten around to asking you about it... Is it possible to get the tagline to WikiLurv changed on the int'l portal for grammar reasons? "Den lurviga encyklopedin", would probably be the best translation of WikiFur's "the furry encyclopedia". Either that or "Den svenska furryencyklopedin" ("The swedish furry encyclopedia" - the former implies that the wiki itself is covered in fur, the latter that it's a furry-related encyclopedia; I'm not sure which WikiFur's tagline is supposed to imply); I'm not married to either translation, just want the grammar straightened out. At your convenience, of course. --[[User:Quotingmungo|quoting_mungo]] 13:50, 7 November 2010 (UTC)
:Sure. I've tweaked this now; you may have to force a refresh to see it. I guess the meaning I intended is really more the latter, but I used the former because it's shorter and doesn't specify the language, which would obliviate the point of a universal tagline (assuming that "Den furryencyklopedin" is also grammatically incorrect). --[[User:GreenReaper|GreenReaper]]([[User talk:GreenReaper|talk]]) 13:59, 7 November 2010 (UTC)
Since nobody's shoved a pen and paper in my hand and said "You're a Furry, please add your name to the list", I was wanting an opinion from someone more knowledgable on the subject than I, and I thought asking you would be a good idea. Most likely are/were fans of the Warner Bros (you know Tom and Jerry among others), and 3. Repeat the same insults over and over. Going back, I can't thank you enough for being so accepting of me. I have actually dealt with people who attacked me for my interests on the subject, but I'm just glad that I have finally gotten clarity on the question of "Am I? or am I not?". With college starting up within the next few weeks, i've been neglecting my duties to the DYK section. I've already missed an update and I apologize for that.

Either way, I'd rather not have my page altered

Hi, I am very new to this (is it a wiki?) wiki, and I was wondering if you could check out my user page and tell me if I fit into the Fandom. I am still learning new things every day, and I am young, but I believe I am a Furry. So, name spoofing,... If correct, they didn't attach it here, they just already had that IP at the hotel, and just signed with your name when he joined the Wolfee fray, willing to give you a black eye on the matter. Hi, can you explain why [http://en.wikifur.com/w/index.php?title=Fox&diff=292066&oldid=291314" the revert] on disambiguation page [[Fox]]? I think most people would be looking for the species. --[[User:Kakurady|Kakurady]] 18:28, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

:Actually, it's a disambiguation page, it shouldn't concentrate on just the species, but everything that has [[Fox]] in it, even if it were "Fox Crackers",... The redirect you added (Foxes) is actually a good idea, but the edit that was there was too fox egocentric, the flow was all wrong too, and the category:fox characters just didn't show up.
::Well, I don't see why it's egocentric since it's not about any particular fox. Most people would be looking for the species anyway, it only makes sense to put it at the top. And I forgot the colon before [[:Category:Fox characters]]... I make mistakes.
::Naively speaking from the [[Special:Whatlinkshere/Fox|inbound internal links]], most of them was meant to link to [[Fox (animal)]] which was once at [[Fox]], and it may be best to move the page to [[Fox (disambiguation)]] and move [[Fox (animal)]] back. == Hi, wanted to get a few answers about this.... ==

Hi, the reason why I have left this message on your page is because you seem to be the one responsible for the addition of my "Cold-blooded" page to the "Candidates for Deletion" page.

Your reasoning is it's too mainstream. While yes, it is mainstream, it also may be something others would enjoy reading. Think of it this way: A member of the site gets bored, scrolls through the pages and notices it, and decides to do some casual reading. They could learn something. While interpretations often run amok, from what I've seen, this site is just as much ''for'' Furries as it is about them. It's okay to add some mainstream, because the more we isolate, the less people reveal themselves to the fandom. The very name Wiki Fur says much. Wiki is where we put our information, and help spread it. Fur is who we are and who this site represents, but at the same time we must ''educate'' ourselves. It is better we add some mainstream, not only for educational purposes, but to show the public we do not have one-track minds. This site is dedicated to furries, but also must teach them. I know my article is small, and you may think it does not warrant a response like this, but my response is more fundamental than "Oh hey, put my article back now". If you tell me how to "Clean it up", I will happily work on it. But deleting it just because it's tandem knowledge is wrong. I hope we can resolve this, have a good one, [[User:Perservere|Perservere]] 18:31, 3 February 2011 (UTC)

:Bear in mind that like most public wikis, WikiFur is open to all editors. While user pages will generally be left to the user concerned, if the information on them appears particularly one-sided, others may be inclined to edit them.

Either way, I'd rather not have my page altered
Especially not with lies made by anti-furs

:Well, and here's where it gets tricky - when it comes to a wiki, it's ''not'' "your page". It's "our page about you". The User: page is intended to provide information relating to your contributions to WikiFur - not as a venue for presenting your own opinion of yourself without fear of rebuttal; nor for criticizing others, especially when it comes to off-wiki matters. That stuff belongs on your homepage, and [[WikiFur:What WikiFur is not#WikiFur is not a free host or webspace provider|we're not a hosting site]]. If you want a page which only you can edit, you should probably look elsewhere. --[[User:GreenReaper|GreenReaper]]([[User talk:GreenReaper|talk]]) 05:27, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
== Wiki tagline ==

I consider myself a Furry because I have yet to find any other, I guess, "community" of people that fit enough of my aspects. I was introduced to anthropomorphic creatures at a young age in books, an example being "Dr. Seuss". As I grew older, I was more or less "drawn in" to the exotics and depth of such things. I would have to say I noticed a correlation of my interests in Furry creatures, when I became a fan of the Star Fox, Ratchet and Clank, and Elder Scrolls Video Game Series. In all honesty, I had no idea what a Furry was until late 2010. Then I realized, "Hmmm.. other folks have the same interests in these kinds of things as I do". And that is how I came to call myself a Furry.

My interests in the subject are (trying to be non-profane and accurate here) sexual, intellectual, recreational, educational (for myself), and explorative. Some may say these are not qualifications enough to consider ones' self a Furry, but from what I have learned, I am one and I don't care about a critics' opinion of it. I've always had a sense of awe and majesty whenever I saw Furries, because they are so out of place, but yet fit in it seamlessly. It truly is amazing in my book.

I don't go to any conventions or dress up in suits, because I believe that keeps a major stereotype alive (plus I'm just not into it).

I am 15 years old, and quite knowledgeable. I look forward to help making this a fine website. I believe age doesn't put a restraint on knowledge or judgement. I may surprise some people with some of my knowledge.

My interests are Animals, Video Games, Comedy, The Supernatural, Religion, Life, and Politics.

I enjoy spreading knowledge any way I can, and as such, I am a member of numerous Wikis and other informational sites. While I am new to the whole social aspect of being a Furry, I will try to learn more about being one, and try to remain neutral on Furry subjects until I am a bit more educated.

I call myself "The Likeable Outcast". Seeing as to what this website is most dedicated to, I believe that I would be welcome here.
