Octan: Furries were referenced on "Psych". Over a month ago. Clearly this is not a popular show among furry fans.

In the sixth season epsiode "Heeeeere's Lassie" (airdate: March 7, 2012), there is a scene in which Shawn and Gus are in the coroner's lab discussing the latest victim, who was just revealed to have been drugged. Shawn asks the coroner, Woodrow "Woody" Strode (played by [[Wikipedia:Kurt Fuller|Kurt Fuller]]), to pull up the autopsy report for a previous victim he believes might be linked to the case. Woody opens his half-closed laptop, revealing the website he was previously browsing, "Pleasureguide.net", specifically a page on furries with a series of photos of [[fursuit|fursuiters]] and a login button labeled "Dare to cuddle?" A "Meow!" and various indistinct sound effects are heard from the laptop's speakers.

After hastily switching over to the window containing the autopsy report, Woody turns around and asks nervously, "Did you see that?" Simultaneously, Gus and Shawn answer "No" and "Yes" respectively.

Mike Curtis created ''Shanda the Panda'' while he was working as a movie theatre manager. Reportedly he drew a simple sketch of Shanda while in a boring meeting with theatre heads and wrote the story based around that first sketch.

Previous to writing ''Shanda'', Mike was the main writer for [[Wikipedia:Harvey Comics|Harvey Comics]], doing scripts for ''[[Wikipedia:Richie Rich|Richie Rich]]'' and ''[[Wikipedia:Casper the Friendly Ghost|Casper the Friendly Ghost]]'' as well as the comic based on [[Wikipedia:New Kids on the Block|New Kids on the Block]].

Mike and Carole have announced that they will be ending their comic book series over the next two years. The last issue of Katmandu (37) is now at press, but the concluding KATMANDU story will run as a backup in SHANDA 49.

In addition, Richard Thatcher has completed a third issue of MORPHING PERIOD, SHANDA'S BEDTIME TAILS 3 will be coming out in early 2011 along with SHANDA 49. In SHANDA 50, Shanda gets married and the series concludes in a new backup story my Mike and original series artist Mike Sagara.

It updates three times a week, normally on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The updates have a sporadic motion to them, however, and the comic is ridden with fillers and delays (mostly depicting a self-loathing cartoon Amber and a dominatrix grey fuzzball, full of exaggerated depictions of her "will-I-ever-do-another-comic" nature). The first five arcs are in black and white. Starting in the middle of the sixth arc, the comic has been in color. The comic is partially based off of the online game [[Furcadia]] and several of the main characters are based off of the [[artist]]'s friends there (it was originally titled ''Dan and Mab's Furcadian Adventures'').

In September 2005, the comic's site was hacked. The title was replaced with "Some Stupid Webcomic" and most of the homepage links were redirected to http://www.cvrpg.com/ . On September 21 the site was restored with a new layout and it was revealed that the "hacking" had been a prank by Amber and her brother Mike.

The comic as a whole is rated PG, although the ''Abel's Story'' [[Wikipedia:Story arc|arc]] (starting on 15 October 2005) is rated NC-14. The [[DMFA Radio Project]], founded in July 2005, provides an unofficial voiced version of much of the comic.

== Origins of DMFA ==

DMFA began in 1998, when Amber promised a shrine of sorts on Furcadia to anyone who could find a particular song for her. When a friend who went by the name of Daniel Ti'Fiona found the song in question, Amber made good on her promise and created the shrine. As a joke, she added a sign proclaiming "Coming soon: the Misadventures of Daniel Ti'Fiona, the comic!" However, Daniel took this seriously and continually prodded her to actually start the comic until she finally gave in, posting the first comic in 1999.

Initially featuring Daniel and Miss Mab, the cast of the comic soon expanded, including both friends of Amber's on Furcadia and characters of her own creation. Later on in 1999, the comic fell into a hiatus for about a year. Amber resumed comic production in 2000, and the comic has been updating steadily ever since.

He clearly has some secrets up his sleeve though, but you're more likely to see him bathing in banana pudding than chanting ancient incantations.

The comic follows the events surrounding a group of teenage furs who, through varying circumstances, all end up living together under the foster care of [[Snow Rendal]]. The comic tends to be rather graphic in overall content, usually with frequent depictions of dismemberment, gore, and other violent injuries and death as well as profanities (either spoken and/or displayed on signs visible in the comic), most often inflicted upon the artist's namesake character in a manner reminiscent of the [[Happy Tree Friends]] cartoon series. The comic very rarely mentions sex, with most instances of it being for character development purposes instead of outright pornography (no genitalia is ever visible, save for two instances; where Snow's breasts are exposed for satirical effect, and Rachel's nipple is partly exposed as she uses Cerberus as a makeshift bar of soap). Several earlier images, however, do show some instances of sex and nudity, a trait that was dropped in the comic's later stages.

The main characters of the comic include Snow Rendal, a female [[cat|housecat]] in her mid to late-20's, and a quartet of 18-year-olds: [[Cerberus (webcomic character)|Cerberus]], a male [[wolf]], [[Rachel Lucas]], a female [[raccoon]], [[Nikita Hussey]], a perpetually scruffy and deceptively cute [[husky]] girl, and [[Tetchie Razzel]], a red [[squirrel]] of eastern European origin.

After four years of run time and a season of slow updates "NotBigAndNotClever" received its final update on 20th December 2006. The comic was abruptly ended and the majority of the older images removed. It's author explained on the main site page that his interest in maintaining the comic had diminished and that he wanted to refocus his energies on other projects.

The cast and their basic characteristics will remain for future images but their background details will no longer be referred to. This in effect is a return to the origins of the comic where the author relied on one-off gags and single, standalone images.

==Guest appearances==

There have been several other characters who have made appearances in the comic, most notably [[Kitana]] and [[Doral]]. The former even plays a role in the storyline of the comic, using her powers to grant Nikita's request to be shrunk to 'normal' size in an attempt to make new friends, something her giant size of 115 feet made all but impossible. She then reverted Nikita back to her previous stature at the behest of Cerberus. There have been a few guest strips as well.

Fur Affinity had suffered from major security holes and a hacking in during Summer of 2005. The site was shut down on 1 August 2005 due to a disagreement between lead coder Jheryn and host provider [[Arcturus]], the primary administrators of the site. At that time Fur Affinity had 12,174 user accounts and nearly 100,000 submissions. Arcturus and supporters went on to found [[ArtPlz]].

Thanks to the community, Fur Affinity was able to build a stronger, faster server than the site originally used for operation. Over the course of 2005, Fur Affinity was able to raise $1,500 in donations towards the purchase of new hardware for its primary server; a server which would, unfortunately, not realize itself until the middle of 2006.

Fur Affinity returned to operation in December 2005 with a solid backbone and more efficient coding, although full operational status would not be reached until December 10 due to a defect in the ASUS motherboard which powered the server. During Fur Affinity's official re-opening on December 10th, over 10,000 submissions for music, art and writing were submitted to the site during its initial 12 hours. These submissions included imported art from returning users and pieces not previously posted.

Much of Sheezy's community was abandoned after the rules change took effect. This migration left many with few alternatives. Fur Affinity had suffered from major security holes and a hacking in during Summer of 2005. The site was shut down on 1 August 2005 due to a disagreement between lead coder Jheryn and host provider [[Arcturus]], the primary administrators of the site. At that time Fur Affinity had 12,174 user accounts and nearly 100,000 submissions. Arcturus and supporters went on to found [[ArtPlz]].

Thanks to the community, Fur Affinity was able to build a stronger, faster server than the site originally used for operation. Over the course of 2005, Fur Affinity was able to raise $1,500 in donations towards the purchase of new hardware for its primary server; a server which would, unfortunately, not realize itself until the middle of 2006.

Fur Affinity returned to operation in December 2005 with a solid backbone and more efficient coding, although full operational status would not be reached until December 10 due to a defect in the ASUS motherboard which powered the server. During Fur Affinity's official re-opening on December 10th, over 10,000 submissions for music, art and writing were submitted to the site during its initial 12 hours. These submissions included imported art from returning users and pieces not previously posted.

Okay, so in regards to whether it ought to be broken up... I figured it'd be useful if someone looking for info on this subject would have it all on one page, so we didn't end up with a buttload of teeny articles.

As for the name, I just thought, "What would a user instinctively enter into the Search bar if they were looking for this?" Admittedly, "Furry references in webcomics" probably would have been better, and if we change the name and add a redirect, we'll have both off them covered. I think this stands as it is.. most of these comics arent at all related to the fandom, Id be glad to see [[PvP]] and [[Penny Arcade]] rolled into this article, not the other way around.. that would make our coverage in webcomics easier to track for fans. Perhaps rename it "webcomic coverage" too, part of Internet coverage. If all this would make the article too long then go ahead and split it

Furry is referenced in more then just webcomics online, just like Bonus Stage is listed at the end. == The fursona ==

Mazz's former fursona is a [[fox]]-colored [[wolf]] named '''Hettie'''. Her almost-typical fox markings are cut short, with her front left sock being white instead of black and her big tail being the grey of a wolf. Her headfur consists of a purple [[Wikipedia:Mohawk hairstyle|mohawk]] with two random green streaks. She has shocking blue eyes.

Her new chosen species is a [[Macro]] [[Skunk|Mutant Skunk]].

Mazz stands about 5'2 when at her normal height but as the Macro does suggest she has the ability to get upwards and over 100 feet. Mazz is a 23 year old single mother of a Tabby cat kitten named Angel. It's not clear how she became a mother or how her child is a tabby cat. Some believe she found her, took her in and raised her as her own.
Mazz has the typical [[skunk]] markings. She's black furred with a white stripe going from her pink nose to the tip of her tail. Her stripe splits at her lower back and reconnects at the tip of her tail. Mazz is about 200 pounds when standing 5'2 and not at all skinny. One of her mutant traits is the green skin hidden under her black fur. The inside of her mouth and ears are also green.
Mazz still has the same shocking blue eyes as Hettie. Her hair is purple, her bangs long reaching just past her chin the rest of her hair short and spikey. Mazz has 3 piercings in each ear the bottom of the 3 being gauged with a pink talon. Her lip is also pierced usually with a spike but balls of any color work just as well.

== The persona ==

Mazz's creator is a 23 year old single mother of a 4 year old little girl and still a lover of coffee but not to the extreme as her fursona. She's a full time college student who spends a lot of time drawing as well as playing with her daughter or going out with friends.
Mazz loves drawing and will usually join in on [[LiveJournal]] community exchanges such as Con Badges or the 100x100xchnge.
On April 17th, 2007. Mazz underwent surgery to remove thyroid cancer that had spread into her lymph nodes. She is back on her feet and currently working on gaining her full energy back.

Chakats have the lower body of any of the big cats, a humanoid torso, and anthro-feline faces. They have prehensile tails, are all functional [[hermaphrodite]]s, and all have feminine breasts. They have a fur coat covering their entire body excepting the pads of the hands and paws, which vary in style, colour, markings, etcetera from individual to individual. The forepaws of their lower body are a hybrid of paw and hand, and function as a stronger, although clumsier pair of hands. They all possess psionic empathic abilities to varying degrees.

Chakats are extremely social creatures, needing both physical and emotional contact regularly. Due to their empathic nature, this is frequently more intimate than most. It also means that they try to be friendly with everyone, but when crossed, can be dangerous enemies.

== Backstory ==

According to Wan, citras were created by bioengineers to discover genetic traits linked to [[homosexuality]]. To that end, 90% of them are homosexual males; the rest, both male and female, were used to propagate the species and were known as "citruses." Threatened with extermination, they escaped the facility and now live in the wild. == Physical characteristics ==

Citras and citruses are, overall, similar in appearance to the [[fennec fox]], with long, pointed ears and a bushy tail. They vary in size, usually peaking at 2-3 feet in hight, though some can grow as tall as 5 feet. They are born a light tan color but will later turn the color of the type of citrus fruit they eat. Distinctive markings of all citras and citruses include a light patch around their right eye, darker fur on the lower arms, feet, and forepaws, lighter underparts, and two dark rings around the tail.

The '''Skiltaire''' (or '''Skiltare''') are a [[species]] of intelligent [[weasel]]-like aliens. They were created by [[Mark Merlino]] (Sylys Sable) in the late 1970s as a non-[[human]] sentient species for a series of [[science fiction]] stories. Skiltaire have been depicted by numerous artists, and were selected as [[mascot]]s of the [[Cartoon/Fantasy Organization]] and Mark's home, [[The Prancing Skiltaire]].

== Physiology ==

Skiltaire vary in size, depending on sub-species and gender, but on average have a body length of 1 yard (0.91 m), not including a 1/2 yard (0.46 m) [[tail]]. Body weight range is 60 to 120 lbs (27.2 to 54.4 kg) for an adult. They closely resemble Earth mustelids (weasels) and occur in two body-types. The '''aquatic''' type looks like a large [[otter]], with a short, broad [[muzzle]], small, rounded [[ears]] and a thick, tapering tail. The '''arboreal''' type resembles a marten, with a more fox-like face (though the muzzle is short), and a brush tail.

The [[fur]] of skiltaire can be any color, although aquatics tend to be limited to gray, brown, light blue, tan, or cream. They often have a single wide or multiple thinner stripes that run up their back, from tail-tip to the top of their head, and darker [[paw]]s (boots) and ear-tips. The stripes can be any color, and are usually much darker or more intense.

A '''neon''' skiltaire has a stripe of highly contrasting color, darker in the middle and grading to pastel edges so that the stripe seems to glow. The neon pattern is most common in aquatics because the base fur color of aquatics tends to have less range than their stripe colors and allows the stripe to contrast more strongly.

A '''flame''' skiltaire is a color variation exclusive to arboreals where the fur colors are yellow, orange and red in any standard pattern, so that the fur looks like fire.

Skiltaire have large eyes (for better dark-vision) and 4-pointed star-shaped pupils.

An obvious characteristic on all skiltaire is a pair of 10 inch (25 cm) antennae which grow from just above the eyebrow. The antennae are the detector part of the animal's natural electrostatic field sense ability. The antennae are modified eye whiskers, and are made up of large interlocking sections that have small, back-facing barbs at the junction of each section. Aquatics possess relatively straight antennae, with a single kink at mid-length, whereas the antennae of arboreals are curled into loose spirals.

The body of a skiltaire has electrogenerative tissue below the skin and insulated from the internal organs, much like an electric eel. The electricity produced by the animal is typically used for precise location detection and motion sensing in air (1 to 50 yard = 0.9 to 45 m range) and under water (1 to 100 yard = 0.9 to 90 m range). The electrical effect is used as an intimate greeting between animals, for stimulation during mating (induced ovulation), and also serves as a desperate defense against an attacker (contact only).

Skiltaire are natural tele-empaths (analog telepaths), and use this ability to communicate with other skiltaire, other aliens with similar abilities, and to aid in hunting. Analog telepathy involves sending and receiving complete sense and thought 'streams' of brain-wave activity, which the sender can control. The effect is that the receiver actually "feels" and "sees" and experiences that the sender transmits, whether it is a current experience, a vivid memory, or a constructed dream.

Skiltaire are true carnivores and hunt live prey, though their diet includes much variety. Most modern skiltaire are hunter-gatherers, with some farming common in larger tribes.

== Player vs. Player ==
In 2002, the comic [[Wikipedia:Player vs. Player|''Player vs. Player'']] by Scott Kurz featured a "public service announcement" titled "Fur Is Bad." Lead character Brent went on a rant about furries instead, describing them as "sick deviants who secretly want to have sex with animals." At which point Jade pops in and tells him that he was supposed to be speaking out against wearing fur, not furries. Although this strip was meant to be a one-shot deal, backlash from his readers inspired a followup series in which furries (all in partial costume) show up at the office to protest. Her [[fursona]] was formerly the pink [[rabbit]] from [[Wikipedia:Tiny Toon Adventures|Tiny Toon Adventures]]. In May 2006, she adapted her fursona to a more original creation; a fuschia and pink rabbit with an early 80s punk look. The new fursona (still named Babs Bunny, but with a full name of "Babbette Lilias Jackrabbit") is a much closer resemblance to Babs' RL look. Babs is an artist who may be found at many conventions, drawing or taking on sketchbook commissions. Her relatively toony style is very distinct.

Babs is also a [[fursuiter]] and a [[puppet|puppeteer]]. She is the player of Bunny Bloom (a character from the mind of [[Eric Schwartz]]), Money Penny, and Lili Fox. She loves to perform in fursuit in parades as well as at furry conventions/fursuiting functions.

Her puppets have made appearances on the [[Funday Pawpet Show]], and on [[Rapid T. Rabbit and Friends]]. The most well known of these is Nick Rhabbit, built primarily by Babs herself. Nick is a grey rabbit parody of Nick Rhodes from Duran Duran. More recently however, she debuted a replica of Baby Rowlf of Muppet Babies fame at [[Midwest Furfest]] 2006.

In 2005, she was the Panelist of Honor at [[Rocket City FurMeet]].

Computolio is a self styled pioneer and known connoisseur of smoking pipes. He has been referred to as the 'leader of the charge on the [[Eric_W._Schwartz|Anti-Schwartz]] camp' and 'Protector of Thorn Valley', the latter title awarded for his exceptional work in the [[NIMH]] fandom. He is known for his love of [[Wikipedia:Amiga|Amiga]] computers, and game emulators.

He was heavily involved in that fandom through the late 90's, operating a frequently updated fansite popular for rare promotional material; he was able to speak with [[Wikipedia:Don_Bluth|Don Bluth]] over concerns and questions others may have had. This site, once hosted on Geocities, no longer exists.

The CYD forums are often considered the heart of CYD by those trying to characterize it. The forum members are an eclectic mix of active furries, vehement anti-furries, and nonfurs. While some users are hostile to outside furs, a number of furry artists and [[furry fan|fans]] have won acceptance there and are active members. As a result, the nature of forum threads and posts vary wildly.

Forum topics are freely created by users, resulting in a very diverse selection of furry and non-furry discussion - most always focusing on the absurd or silly behavior of the subjects. PayPal charges a fee for accounts that can accept credit card donations - this is why there is a separate account for them, so we don't get charged a fee for those people who want to pay using PayPal direct. As the ledger ''is'' a record of how much WikiFur has to spend, it records the latter amount. A bigger cost is actually the tax - as a private individual, this technically counts as income for me. Fortunately for WikiFur's account balance, I will not be deducting these taxes from the amount available. The "face value" would be noted in the notes section, which is at the end of the line. This was done for example on Spirou's first donation, which mentioned the face value and the subscription.
